    Sweet & Sour Pork Chop-
    Maggie C.

I loveee this place it's one of my favorite Chinese places to eat. Ordered the braised pork belly, dongpo rou, scallion pancake, tofu, chow mein, and pan fried buns. Every dish was delicious except the pan fried buns? The buns were too soft and didn't have the crispy bottom. Their dim sum dishes could probably use some work because I felt the same about the XLB too. All other dishes are well-executed!

Superb food and service, elegant dining room. The dishes are classic Shanghainese: lion's head meatball, rice cake, seaweed fish, tea smoke duck. Favorite was the seaweed fish (5 stars), lightly battered and fried to crispy perfection; make sure you add a sprinkle of pepper salt to kick it up a notch. The other dishes are solid 4 stars. I wish the duck was de-boned, more tender, and easier to make into a sandwich -- it was the most expensive dish ($33) as well as my least favorite. Did I mention the service was superb? Our server was very patient and helpful in explaining the dishes to my friends who knew zilch about Shanghainese food. All in all, we loved our lunch, even the messy-to-make smoked duck sandwich.

Came here on a Friday for lunch and didn't have to wait too long to get seated. Most of the food is Shanghainese style, though I love the variety of the menu. We had the kung pao chicken, Shanghainese style noodles, and the supreme meatball. The noodles and chicken were good, flavorful and with good quantity too. Was not a fan of the supreme meatball however, I don't know if it's star anise or what kind of spice, but it had too sweet of a taste in the sauce and within the meat. I would come again to try the rest of their menu, there are a lot more options than what we were able to try.

Not sure if it's because we came close to Thanksgiving, but unfortunately, there were quite a few mishaps that led me to marking this a 3/5 overall. We got seated relatively fast, but everything beyond that was terribly slow. I think we waited about 1.5 hours until our first food arrived - and then 15-30 min intervals for every dish following that. We tried asking about our food whereabouts, only to be met with a dismissive waitress who basically ignored us. Other tables that arrived and ordered after us somehow got the same dish we ordered before us - we assumed they had forgotten our orders at some point. There was one lovely waitress, so she was kind to get the ball rolling for us more. The food itself was okay. The flavors weren't that strong except for the eggplant dish. Some of the food arrived cold, which I was not very pleased with. The interior is nice and clean. It did feel a bit tight though.

How the mighty has fallen. The best eel dish in SGV became the worst. I used to praise this place for this dish but now they cook it half heartedly and forgot what they should put in it. Where's the hot oil sizzling over the yellow chives? The dish was lukewarm. They had a special lobster deal. Reason why was apparent when you took a bit in it. The meat were soggy and felt like it was frozen so long that the meat became utterly destroyed. No flavor, just mushy crap. So disappointed.

Ugh! I didn't want to believe it but all the recent comments are true. The good news is the seaweed salted fish is still good! However I decided to also order combination fried rice and it's the worst fried rice I've ever had. Not kidding. There's barely any...anything in there. Maybe 5 pieces of peas, 5 pieces of carrots, one piece of shrimp, and 2 tiny prices of chicken. My whole meal was $40. Certainly not worth it. The restaurant inflated the prices and deflated the quality. Service was quick and place is still cleaned. But food quality is severely down. Sad they were a michellin star restaurant. Now to me they are a michellin tire restaurant.

I've had this bookmarked for months and I'm glad I finally got to try it out! Fish filet - 5/5 - the fish was super tender! We finished this one first! Beef w/ asparagus - 5/5 - beef was very soft and asparagus was good but I wish there was more in the dish. String Beans - 4.5/5 - love string beans! Had a lot of garlic Braised Pork - 4/5 - the fat was soft but the meat was a bit tough and the sauce was salty. We didn't have any rice to help combat the sauce. Sweet Rice Soup - 5/5 - my family has never tried this before and was very pleased! it's a good way to end a meal. it's sesame filled rice balls with egg drop in sweet soup! Rose Tea - 5/5 - it comes in a pretty glass teapot where you can see the rose buds floating Our server spoke both in English and Cantonese which was helpful with explaining the dishes! Definitely a good place to come with family so you can try more dishes. Would come back again to try their other dishes! Parking - they have a lot in the back, or street.

**Yelp Check-In deal NOT HONORED** Not sure how Jiang Nan Spring got the Bib Gourmand in 2021, but I'm not impressed. At a glance from the entrance the interior looks modern and upscale, however when I sat down I immediately noticed the stains on the table cloth. Picture or it didn't happen, so I made sure to capture that. My boyfriend and I came in and they sat us down at a table that was so wide, I felt so far from him. We shared the Filet Mignon w/ Lily Bulb ($22), Walnut Shrimp ($20), and a Saute String Bean w/ Ground Pork ($15) and 2 bowls of White Rice ($2/order). I think it's a bit tacky that the rice isn't included with this style of cuisine. The filet mignon was no doubt the best tasting item. It had good flavor but there were some tough pieces. The saute string beans were decent but super oily. It defeated the purpose of getting a vegetable to be healthy. The walnut shrimp is usually one of my favorite dishes but the one here tasted funky. I felt obligated to eat it cause I picked it. Sigh. I have no plans to come back. This type of cuisine is so common in this area, and nothing stood out other than their stained table clothes.

I would add this restaurant to your list of delicious Chinese restaurants. We had an early dinner and sat quickly. The server was super sweet and gave us some suggestions. I'm a green onion pancake connoisseur and I highly enjoyed their version. We ordered the crab but I think it was too small so the meat was dry. I would have skipped that dish. Everything else we ordered was as expected - great flavor and tasty.

this place had great authentic food! 5/5- the biggest fave in the table was surprisingly actually the scallion pancakes they were fried and had such a nice chewy texture that had a lot of flavor and paired so well with dishes. whereas most places its more doughy and bland the bean curd, rice cake in the crab dish, and pork belly were the highlights all the other dishes were good too but you could skip if needed. particularly felt the shanghai noodles weren't as good as the other dishes or other shanghai noodles ive had at other places. but still good overall overall a great place to have a large family get together

Food was authentically good. We came here on a Friday night and the restaurant was filled but not packed. Sufficient parking on the side lot. Service was attentive and food came out quickly. No complaints at all on the flavors. Portion may be a bit smaller than comparable restaurants in this area in the same price point.

I was in town, was craving Chinese food, found this place on yelp. I ordered Orange chicken and beef roll, at the time, I was going to take a picture, but my phone died. I brought the leftover to home- the picture. The food was good and satisfying. Orange chicken tasted good, beef roll was on the dry side, but the portion was good. The restaurant is clean and nice. The service was just okay, I had to call servers to get their attention. I would try their other dishes next time.

Absolutely heartbroken to find out (today) that this place has CLOSED and been replaced by Mama Lu's Dumpling House. I drove pass by just a few days ago and all seems well and it took us by surprise today when we were hoping to get a nice meal at this Michelin-Star restaurant. I will certainly miss their awesome Garden Vegetable Stir Fry and decadent Shanghai Fried Rice. The place was clean and above all the food was a thing of beauty and delicious! Was looking forward to try out pretty much everything on the menu. Bummer! Doesn't make any sense now for the review but only to pay homage to a once fine establishment.

im sure you can request to have them omitted from many items if you check with the server. don't know if the chefs will be happy about it though.

We recommend making a reservation directly by calling the restaurant at 626-766-1688 when you want to order clay chicken. There is no additional cost when making a reservation. Additionally, the clay chicken needs to be ordered 2 days in advance.

They have a lot of tables inside so it is great for small and large groups. The waiters were also fast even though they were busy. We ordered their Kung Pao Chicken, Fried Tofu, Beef Noodle, Shrimp w Walnut, and Vegetable w Garlic. We decided not to get lobster since it was pricey. They took our order pretty fast and gave tea to drink. The pot of white rice is extra $1 if you order though. And their menu book doesn't have prices for some reason. Only the to-go menu has prices. Food was served in a decent amount of time, around 15 minutes. And all dishes arrived close together so we didn't have to wait long. The kung pao chicken is so good! Not spicy at all and very nice and crispy with good seasoning. It tasted delicious with some rice. The beef noodles were also delicious! It had good wok taste and was very flavorful. The tofu and shrimp were also good. None of the dishes were too salty and all were seasoned well and in pretty big portions, though I don't remember the exact price since they took the receipt away when we paid. But the meal was very worth and we had leftovers for lunch the next day. Such a yummy meal! I really enjoyed it! I am definitely coming back again!

We were seated right away when we arrived, although it took a while before anyone came to take our order. We started with the sizzling razor clams, and honestly, they were the highlight of the meal, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and a great start. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, and it really missed the mark. Several ingredients felt poorly prepared. The tendon was so tough it was basically inedible and had to be pushed aside. The pork blood tasted like it had been cooked separately since it had none of the broth flavor soaked into it. Even the beef slices felt out of place, almost like they had been pulled from a pho bowl and dropped into the BBH at the last minute. The broth itself lacked the richness, spice, and strong lemongrass flavor that normally makes Bun Bo Hue stand out. It just tasted flat. There was also a mix-up with our order when the wrong dish came out instead of the lobster. When the lobster finally arrived, it was badly overcooked and much smaller than what was shown on the menu. On top of that, the music was blasting the entire time, no one really checked in to see how things were going, and it took multiple attempts just to get our check. When we mentioned the food issues, the response was basically, "We'll let the chef know." Not exactly the kind of service you hope for after a disappointing meal. Really wanted to like this place, especially after such a strong start with the razor clams, but overall it ended up being a letdown.

The oysters were fresh, mostly clean, and came with the usual accompaniments. My only minor complaint is that small seafood forks would have been nice to have available. The mussels and clams were the disappointment of the meal. While the broth itself was flavorful, the portion was downright sad. We received only 4 mussels and 4 clams total, and the bowl felt almost empty. The standout was definitely the fish and chips. Dare I say the best fish and chips I've ever had? The batter was well-seasoned without being overly salty. The fish was crispy, hot, flaky, and surprisingly not too greasy. The fries were also excellent, with a crunchy exterior and fluffy, mashed potato-like interior. I would absolutely order this again. Overall, for happy hour, come for the fresh oysters and fish and chips. Skip the embarrassingly skimpy bowl of mussels and clams.

We ended up getting a set for $168 this time, which came with 6 dishes. It's also $35 per lb for lobster, and I asked for the smallest one. Apparently, the smallest one was 4.8 lbs, which was another $168, so I'm not sure if they upsold me. Anyways, the food was fantastic and everyone enjoyed it. This is what I thought about the food we got. House Seafood Soup - Simple and clean soup. Good portion, and it was soothing to eat. Lots of squid. (4/5) Clams with Spicy Sauce - Large clams with tons of meat, and the sauce was fire. Always a good choice. (5/5) Crab with Salt & Pepper - Loved the seasoning, and the flavors were solid. (4.5/5) Thai Style Beef Stew - First time trying this, and it was good. A bit different, but the meat chunks were tasty and the overall flavors were good. (4/5) Sautéed Pea Sprouts - Nicely done vegetable dish. It's simple but refreshing with good flavors. (4/5) Fried Whole Fish - This dish was gone so fast because it was delicious. Nicely fried and not overly seasoned. (5/5) Signature Lobster - I feel like you have to get this here since it's their specialty. It's pricey, but in my opinion, it's the best and freshest lobster in town. Tons of green onions, seasoned well, fresh meat, and lots of lobster roe. (5/5) Service was good, and they didn't automatically add a mandatory tip for a large party. The total came out to around $364, which is pricey, but the food was phenomenal. Parking - Valet only, but they have street parking in front. I parked on the street since there were plenty of spots on a Wednesday, but I assume it gets busy on weekends.

We ordered French style beef, house special fried chow mein, honey walnut shrimp and steamed rice. First of all, the serving portions were very generous. All came in very large plates. The beef was saucy, tender and flavorful. In other restaurants, they add mushrooms to fill the plate. Here, the plate is full of just large chunks of beef. The shrimp in the honey walnut dish were large prawns. They were moist, succulent and tender. It had a rich flavor because of the mayo. The chow mein was full of chicken, shrimp, squid and octopus. It was perfectly crispy and saucy at the same time. We ate to our heart's content and ended up taking home plenty of leftovers enough for another meal. Our total bill was a little over $108 with tip. We will definitely be back. Parking is valet only and cost is $5.

Of all the Vietnamese sour soups we've had, this place was the best. It is like a savory version of a lemonade, where the sourness and sweetness is extremely intense, but perfectly balanced. I've tasted all sort items from this restaurant, from quail, to frogs, to snails, to cat fish, and everything has been executed to maximize the taste of the ingredient and sauce. Fish dishes would first be soft, flakely, moist, buttery, and then after the textures, you get hit with the intensities of the sauces. In French cuisine, sauce is king, and Vietnamese food is often times a blend of native and French techniques. This place's food quality punches well beyond it's patronage. I'm frankly surprised how empty this place is, and often times, I avoid writing reviews for my FAVORITE places, because after a review from me, the place gets crazy crowded and the prices go up. Unfortunately, this review is written post mortem. I do hope that this place can re-open someday. Until then, this place has set the bar for me, for all Vietnamese restaurants going forward. Will miss this place.

We ordered the clams, baked catfish, lotus root salad and the goat tenderloin. All the food here is absolutely delicious. The baked catfish is tender, buttery and flavorful. The baked catfish came with rice paper and veggies to wrap the fish in. The clams and lotus root salad were well seasoned and tasted fresh. The goat tenderloin was super tender and flavorful. Not too gamey either. Service was excellent. Our servers were extremely attentive and always made sure we had everything we needed. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant but we made a reservation for the catfish to make sure that we had the chance to try it before they sold out. Going to miss this place!

Turns out Yelp was having a moment of brilliance. We rolled in with a full-on clan of 14 hungry young adults, and somehow everyone left happy, full, and already talking about what they'd order next time. Our table was stacked with garlic string beans, walnutshrimp, special fried rice, French beef and Lobster with pan-fried noodles. The shrimp was a crowd favorite, the noodles were loaded with flavor, and even the string beans earned plenty of compliments. My only tiny critique is that for me the walnut shrimp was a bit more breaded than I personally like, but that's a minor speed bump in an otherwise fantastic meal. Pro tip: ask them to bring the rice out first. The dishes are packed with bold, rich flavors, and having a bowl of rice ready lets you soak up every last delicious bite without feeling like you've gone ten rounds with a sodium ninja. The service was outstanding too; our servers teamed up and handled our group of 14 like pros, stayed attentive throughout the night, and never missed a beat. We separated the youngins and OGs in two close tables. We arrived about 3 hours before their 11 p.m. closing time on a busy Saturday, yet nobody made us feel rushed. It took 45 min to be seated and we stayed to closing. Er had so much fun in this VIP experience. The restaurant itself is spacious, tucked into a shopping center with plenty of parking, making it an easy choice for groups big or small. If Kim Tar can keep 14 people fed, smiling, and agreeing on dinner, that's practically a miracle. I'll definitely be back for another feast. Next time I'll have the 3 pound lobster just for me!
