Soybean milk, yao tiao and tianjin baos
    Angela H.

One of my favorite spots for Chinese breakfast. The food here is always delicious. I like to order the tianjin bao which is basically like a xlb but in bao form in my opinion. I got the yao tiao and it went great with my soybean milk.

I've been here a few times when the wife or my father-in-law was missing home. It wouldn't be my first choice to come here! I'm not going to fight a senior citizen on where to eat breakfast. After all, it's always nice to eat breakfast outside. However, the food is not as desirable as before as the novelty has worn off after having gone so many times of late. I was tired of eating the Rice Crust #3. I opted for a bowl of Lamb noodles. It wasn't good. The broth was too salty. I wouldn't be in a rush to come back anytime soon!

Nothing like authentic Chinese food on a Sunday morning!! Today was my 3rd time eating here and I must say hell yes! I've tried about 12 items and didn't care for the corn muffin or soy milk cause I am lame like that. The pancake noodles #75&76 were delicious! The cucumbers and the sea kelp were a wonderful surprise! The beef and noodles were like a Chinese pot roast soup very delicious! Onion pancake didn't disappoint at all! We've tried 4 different dumplings and all 4 were bangers they just don't miss! The Chinese donut was pretty damn good. The meat stuffed pies are another winner a palm sized meat patty in a pancake is the best way to describe these flavor bombs!! Dinning room is super tight. If you don't speak the language there will be alot of finger pointing and thumbs up, so don't get upset if your order is wrong believe me these mistakes are the best!! Staff is good again there might be a language barrier. I've spent 70 and 80 dollars for a group of 3 but were picking multiple items. Have spent 20 when I ate by myself. Remember kids this isn't panda or chia express there is no honey wanut fried rice here! I highly recommend this place for authentic Chinese cuisine!!

Newer menu than those previously posted. Someone might need the right numbers like I did!

Located on Garvey near Garfield. Street parking or lot parking on the corner and can walk thru alley to their back door. I was looking to try something different. Found this on yelp. Called to place my order, unfortunately they don't understand too much English. The woman was very helpful but couldn't understand leek pie nor sliced beef with pancake. She asked for numbers, but the menu on yelp that I looked at was older w different numbers. She kept saying hold on and found an English speaking customer to help. They still couldn't figure out the leek pie so instead I got beef w leek pie. Busy small restaurant on a Sunday morning with tables filled. The beef roll was filled with lots of beef. The pancake was a little doughy and chewy- not as crispy and flakey as I prefer. The beef leek pie was mostly beef. It was too juicy- ended up all over my shirt on first bite. Learned on next one to bite and let it drain or sip it. Too beefy for me. I'll try the leek pie next time!

I just came back from China & was craving Jianbing. This place came up in my search & I have to say that it tasted very authentic and yummy! I also got the tea egg + soy milk (I didn't enjoy the soy milk). My boyfriend got the onion pancakes & bok choy pork dumplings and said they were both good. Service was very quick.

I love this place!!! The carbs are so yummy the Chinese donut paired with the soymilk is a must!!! The portions are generous and definitely worth the money. Service was pretty fast we only had to wait a bit for a party of 10 to be seated. Dumplings were also very yummy juicy and filled with lots of meat. You can't really go wrong with this place it's a classic! Ambiance was typical Chinese restaurant lots of people eating and chillin

I was so touched to eat authentic Tianjin breakfast in Los Angeles Following yeip's recommendation, I checked in at this Tianjin breakfast shop, and it didn't disappoint me. As soon as I entered the door, I heard authentic Tianjin dialect. The shop was full of Tianjin aunties making breakfast, and the atmosphere was right. The most surprising thing is that the taste is really like what I ate in Tianjin- The fried dough sticks were freshly fried, especially crispy, and there was a "click" sound when you bite them. The soy milk is very fragrant, not the kind that is diluted with water, and you can tell that it is freshly ground. The salty tofu brain pie is very full and has a strong bean fragrance. The sugar-fried pancake is really fried too well, with a crispy skin and a slightly sticky sweet taste inside. I couldn't help but order another one after eating one. Although the pancakes are not as diverse as those on the streets of Tianjin, they are also very good overall, with fragrant batter and sufficient ingredients. As someone who once went to the northwest corner of Tianjin specifically for breakfast, this restaurant really made me feel: "This is the taste I want to eat!" The auntie in the store is also very honest. I ordered several in one go, and she smiled and said: "You ordered too much, you can't finish it." Just this kind of atmosphere and tone, so friendly. Summary: If you are in Los Angeles and crave Tianjin breakfast, this restaurant is really worth a visit. It's not a gimmick, it's really delicious + humane. It is recommended to come early. There are many people but the turnover is fast. The breakfast is rich in variety and the price is also reasonable.

First time trying this place called "Fortune No 1" but I thought it was called "J&H Bun House". I was thinking of getting leek pie and saw this restaurant open early. It's located on Garvey Ave in Monterey Park (very close to the Lincoln Hotel). Their business hours are from 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. They have limited street parking in the front but you can also park at the public parking area behind the restaurant. I ordered takeout orders of fried leek pie (2 pieces) for $8.99 and a red bean bun ($2.50) by phone about 45 minutes prior. Once I entered the restaurant, I saw many people inside and it was pretty crowded. I asked the lady if my order was ready and she asked me what did I order? They should have asked for my name or the last 4 digits phone number when I ordered so it would have been more efficient. She checked every takeout orders on the table. They prefer payment by cash but accept credit cards. (add 3% for the fees) My take-out order was heavy and they were in big portions and the price was economical. No wonder they had so many people. The leek pie orders had 2 big pieces inside and a lot of leek and vermicelli. It was a bit salty but flavorful. The crust was too thick. The red bean bun was big but the texture was dense and heavy. The red bean filling inside was okay but I didn't like the bun skin. I could only finish 1/4 of it. Food: 3 out of 5 stars (leek pie fillings were not bad but the skin was too thick and the red bean bun texture was dense & heavy) Service: They were fast but not efficient and a bit rude (2 out of 5 stars) Ambiance: 1 out of 5 stars (too crowded and not much room to move around and loud noise gave me headache) Overall, I was overwhelmed by the place.

Great food variety! You can understand the northeast Chinese breakfast culture when you visit this place. Food is authentic and delicious. People who work in the kitchen can be loud , you can experience the streets breakfast atmosphere here. Food is very tasty according to friends who went with me, who originally from the Shandong region. I like 油条 most. Food comes pretty quickly, serves is okay, but cleanness have rooms to improve.

Some of the besttttt Chinese comfort/home cooking I've found in LA! Boyfriend is northern Chinese and thinks this is the best homemade breakfast in the area - I'm not as qualified as he is, but I agree. Prices are really good - you get a LOT of food for under $30. Our classic favorite is of course their tianjin baozi, will probably come back just to pick up an order of those.

Our first item, the popcorn chicken, was divine - medium and fried to perfection, couldn't ask for better! The xiao long bao was next on the list, and these featured a more thick but still chewy skin. Unfortunately, two of ours were served "stuck together" which led to them breaking - sad! The last item, the beef rolls, were amazing as well. Not only is it a timeless classic, but the beef wasn't too dry. Between these tasty bites, we also shared a honey lemon green tea. My friend warned me about these mug sizes, and yes... one is probably enough for a table of four to share! This drink was super sweet, and it was definitely in need of dilution to be drinkable. My crew and I went on a Friday night, and even though it was very busy, we were seated fairly quickly. Chicken Fried Rice: It was soft and pillowy with great flavor, though I felt it could have used a bit more color. It looked a little pale, but it was still delicious. Shanghai-Style Chow Mein: This was perfect. The flavor was spot on, the sauce was well-balanced, and the noodles had the ideal texture. The ratio of noodles, vegetables, and meat was just right. Sweet and Sour Chicken: This was the highlight for me. My only regret is not ordering more to take home. The chicken was crispy without being overdone, and it was coated in that delicious sweet and sour sauce. Juicy Pork Dumplings: We were at a dumpling house, so we had to order dumplings. These did not disappoint. They were very flavorful, and the broth inside was rich and satisfying.
