This is a casual spot that is open late. Portions are pretty large. Friendly service. -Beef Noodle Soup: Tasted fine. Large portions. -Pork Belly Rice: This was my favorite thing here. Pork belly has decent flavor. -Pan-fried shrimp/pork dumplings: Tasted decent.

A real "hole in the wall" restaurant, I had saved Good Shine Kitchen to try with my mom since I noted it has Taiwanese dishes including fried stinky tofu (fermented tofu) that my hubby won't eat ='(...lol! Came for lunch over the weekend and I think my mom and I both enjoyed our meal. They also sell their own pre-made fresh frozen dumplings as well & make everyone's order as they go...so service was a little bit slow. Mom & I tried: -Stinky Tofu, their sauce is just soy sauce, could use some garlic and chili sauce...but we got some on the side and added it to our own taste. I liked this. Definitely stinks up the space when they're making it, but IYKYK and it's worth the smell, lol. -Pig Ear appetizer, this was good as well. Lots of green onion and cilantro and flavor was perfect. No adjustments needed. -Pork & Leek Dumplings, the filling flavor is already great so you can eat it on its own. We also did make our own dipping sauce though out of personal preference. -Beef Noodle Soup, this was good as well but took the longest to come out so we'd already gotten pretty full off the other dishes. We took out the noodles in a separate bowl so that they wouldn't suck the soup dry... They do prefer cash payment & charge an extra fee for credit cards. Parking lot is small and shared with the laundromat and tofu shop next door. Will be back to try more dishes!

Was looking for a local spot that was still open fairly late and more decent then your fast food joints. The owner lady was very friendly and welcoming. This is definitely a whole in the wall, mama papa spot. Very small and good for a late night meal. Each dish is around 15-20 bucks so if you're eating quit a bit, it can get pricy. We had buck choi, shrimp fried rice, dumplings, orange chicken and chicken chow mein. Everything was pretty good. No complaints. I would come back if I was looking for something that was fairly decent at those hours of the night, and more on the home made side.

A restaurant I have passed by countless times on my way to the library or the park but never stopped in till now. After practice, a teammate mentioned stinky tofu, and I'm pretty sure I started drooling. Our group of 7 went for the evening around 8pm where there was plenty of seats. That said, parking spots were limited within the plaza with the majority of people heading to the laundromat next door, so I parked on the streets. I shared a plate of stinky tofu with two others, and for myself ordered a plate of pork and napa cabbage 猪肉白菜水饺 pan-fried dumplings. Others in the tables ordered wonton soup, steamed dumplings, and braised pork rice, with the majority also getting pan-fried dumplings with other fillings. Wait was slightly long, though to be fair it was a huge order. The stinky tofu and veggies were pungent and passed the smell test. I long for street food back East. The dumplings were delicious, bursting with piping hot juices from the filling. Many folks on here miss the previous owners of the restaurant, but I'd say the current ones are doing a good job. One of our guys decided to order a bag of frozen dumplings to-go, so during some downtime the chef and waitstaff came out and talked at length in describing the proper cooking method to ensure a cooked interior and a crispy base. As a side note, there's an article written of the restaurant back in 1985 framed and hung on the wall with a writeup of the menu back then. Here's to its continued business in MPK.

New family took over since March 2025. Featuring same menu plus a few more, they hand made their own dumplings and XLB. We had the Taiwanese dishes, they were pretty decent. Stinky tofu was slightly stinky, oyster omelet was tasty with many oysters. The beef rolls were delicious. Our favorite was the cold smashed cucumbers, nice and cool on a hot day. Overall service was ok, the lady was friendly and helpful but not super prompt. It was a bit warm, we asked a few times, they finally figured out they were not using the right setting.

Every time I drove by this place hours past midnight, I would see one of the owners working in the restaurant (most likely prepping food!). Admired by his dedication, I was encouraged to try out this place. We ordered Beef Noodle Soup, Pan-Fried Shrimp w/ Pork Dumplings, and Pork Kong-Bah Rice. The Beef Noodle Soup was standard but good! The soup had a wonderful flavor, and the beef was very tender. The Pan-Fried Shrimp w/ Pork Dumplings were delicious. It had a good skin to filling ratio, and it was fried quite nicely. They were also juicy and had soup inside. The Pork Kong-Bah Rice was good and I enjoyed it. The pork belly was perfectly marinated, and the fatty parts of the pork were delicious. It was also topped with pickled daikon radish which added a nice sweet tartness to the dish. Overall, the food here is pretty tasty and tastes homemade. Everything is also affordably priced. The workers are mainly the owners, who I believe are husband and wife. It is nice visiting and trying these small mom and pop shops. I can see myself returning here someday!

Pork Rice: bland. Sour cabbage served icy cold!

This Taiwanese food staple was already being replaced w/ peep who does not know how to cook Taiwanese fast food, such as minced pork rice, stew pork rice. My pork rice came w/ white rice in meat sauce (simply only the soy sauce), sour cabbage (it's served icy cold)and stew egg. The egg was only boiled soaking in soy sauce, no any flavors as it's supposed to be braised in 5-spices. It's nasty! The cook/owner should hv at least learn from the original owner how to make original Taiwanese food flavors... it's the soul skill. Pan fried pork dumpling is also disappointed. This won't last if u keep doing the same thing.

Food was not authentic. Yes, it was cheap and the owners are nice people but overall sketchy (can only pay cash or zelle) and the food was pretty bland.

Appears to be Chinese cooks, not Taiwanese. Pork shrimp cabbage dumplings were the best of the dishes we got - tasted super freshly made, maybe among the freshest I've had. If they weren't so fresh, they'd probably just be ok. A choy was also perfectly cooked and not salty or oily. Beef roll had decent flavor but bread was a little chewy. Oyster pancake was disappointing - egg was overcooked and sauce was slightly acidic and tasted more like ketchup than oyster pancake sauce. Service wasn't super attentive but it was fine, restaurant seemed clean. Overall, ok but stick with Chinese food, not Taiwanese.

I lived in Monterey Park for 10 years until 2016 but surprisingly I didn't know about this place. My parents also don't know this place either as we drove by there many times. It's located in the little strip mall next to VP Tofu on Garfield Ave (cross street Newmark Ave). It's a hidden Taiwanese cuisine. (The name sounds like Chinese cuisine though) My mom and I ordered XLB (Xiao Long Bao /steamed pork dumplings) and a stir-fry noodle dish. We were a bit disappointed of the taste and quality. The stir-fry noodle dish was small portion and it only had some tiny shredded meat. The noodles were a bit salty and oily. However, we like the XLB, the skin was thin enough and it was flavorful. The pork meat was juicy inside. I want to support them because they are like mom and pop restaurant and they have been in business for so long. The taste was like home cooked meal, food was cheap but the quality varies depends on what you order. I think that many people like it because it's like comfort food for them. Btw, they accept cash only!

    LA times review from 1985

Insanely good. As a Taiwanese American, everything was so delicious and authentic. Total hidden gem. Had all the classics that you could hope for, including absolutely phenomenal stinky tofu, perfectly crispy pork intestine, Taiwanese sausage, oysters, pork rice, and chao mi fun. Prices are great, and this spot is a regular visit for us.

Little hole in the wall with some of the most tasty food you'll ever had. Everything I've tried here is delicious. The shrimp were perfectly breaded, seasoned and crispy. The noodles are full of flavor and packed with meat and veggies. The roasted eggs are great. Not sure what the flavor is, but the sauce they're in is so good. The place is small maybe like 6 tables, but it's comfortable and the food is authentic and gives you home cooked meal feels. The service is great, the woman who works there is always so nice and welcoming.

Food XLB - these weren't anything special, I do like the scallion and ginger flavors in the filling Popcorn Chicken - must get, reminds me of the one I had in Taipei Pan Fried Pork Buns - they do pork buns really well here. Crispy bottom, juicy filling, very delicious Beef & Tendon Noodle Soup - soy based, herb/spice heavy. In order of preference, it is the spicy wontons, the jiajiang noodles, the potstickers, and then the beef noodle soup. What they got right with the spicy wontons was the sauce - spiced, kinda spicy, sour, and also sweet. I could use that sauce on everything. The jiajiang noodles was just a good combo of cool from the cucumbers and the noodles and minced meat were good. The beef noodle soup was fine but I think the soup could've packed a bigger punch. It felt almost watered down but I say the piece of beef were great. Overall, the meal came out to around $65 and it is pretty standard now but $13 for 8 wontons or 8 potstickers just feels a bit nuts still. Overall though, it was a solid meal and I'd recommend coming

From the outside, you can't tell the inside has really good space with booths plus tables and chairs, but it does. They weren't super busy at the time... about 5 tables occupied. They also have frozen food to-go (just two items... dumplings and dezhou chicken). I got one Steamed Mini Buns (aka Xiao Long Bao), one Stir-Fried Noodles with pork, one Lamb Noodles Soup (with hand torn noodles), and one Jasmine Green Tea with honey. Yes, this seems like a lot of food for one person. I'm not a stranger to bringing food home for another meal. *Steamed Mini Buns - juicy with flavorful pork filling, adequate skin thickness, good size buns *Stir-Fried Noodles with pork - best dish out of the 3, good balance between pork, veggies, and noodles, mild spice level was perfect, portions were reasonable for the price *Lamb Noodles Soup - great amount of lamb and noodles, lamb was tender, noodles were a tad mushy on the edge... they need to be firmer, soup was savory *Jasmine Green Tea with honey - good size cup, tea was a bit bitter, probably needs more honey Food came out steaming hot and timely. Staff and service were wonderful. Yan, the server, was patient and helpful. He did an amazing job working the entire floor by himself. Thank you Yan! Highly recommend this place for their pan-dried and soup noodles. I would come back for more pan-fried noodles and try their pan-fried dumplings. When I called to make a reservation, the staff explained that the goose dish requires a pre-order and isn't cheap. In fact, the price for half a goose is comparable to ordering a bone-in ribeye steak at a high end steakhouse. However, we are glad we went for it. The goose arrived as a cold cut plate, paired with a special dipping sauce that perfectly balanced the rich, fatty, and flavorful meat. It was my first time having Taiwanese style goose in the US, and it is absolutely worth trying if you have never had it before. The dish also came with a rice noodle soup made with goose oil, which was an excellent bonus. We didn't stop there. From the special lunch menu, we tried the pan fried egg, satay water spinach and lamb, house special braised pork rice, and fried cabbage with egg puff. From the regular menu, we ordered sticky tofu with pork blood cake, steamed cod fish, and sticky rice. The sticky rice was dry and not very flavorful, but everything else hit the spot, especially the mixed pork rice, which was outstanding and highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Taiwanese comfort food. On later visits, we went back for classics like three cup chicken, fried stinky tofu, jalapeño pork, and the Taiwanese cabbage pot. The cabbage pot was a standout, just generous portions, packed with variety, including fish balls, glass noodles, fried pork, and more. Some reviewers mentioned poor service, but our experiences across multiple visits have all been positive. The staff has been attentive, and the prices are very reasonable as long as you stick with the regular menu.
