Came here first for a holiday work dinner...and it was so good I had to bring the family for Lunar New Year. Also~ if it's good enough for President Obama, it's good enough for us. Highlights: the steamed fish and house special short rib were . And the smoked fish cold appetizer? Straight up tasted like bacon decided to become a fish . Only misses were they forgot to bring one of our dishes because it was slammed for LNY, and the Shanghai soup dumplings had no soup. Like...where did it go? That's the whole point. Kids enjoyed the yogurt drink and adults found the red bean rice ball in wine soup a pleasant dessert. Overall, Shanghainese food leans a little on the sweet side.

The Food: High Marks for U.S. Standards For those who have dined in Shanghai, the food here is "Overall OK"--meaning it hits the traditional notes without necessarily reinventing the wheel. However, by U.S. standards, it is easily in the top 5% of Chinese dining. The Classics: The Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) have thin, delicate skins and a rich broth, and their Braised Pork Belly (Hong Shao Rou) is decadent and appropriately sweet. Consistency: The kitchen is remarkably consistent. Whether you're ordering the sautéed river shrimp or the crispy eel, the execution is disciplined and clean. Ambiance & Service: Built for Meetings The 5/5 Ambiance is what truly sets Shanghailander Palace apart from the crowded, bustling noodle shops nearby. Professional Setting: The interior is spacious, elegant, and relatively quiet. It provides the kind of "face" (mianzi) you want when hosting a business meeting or an important family dinner. Flawless Service: The staff is attentive, professional, and well-trained in the pacing of a formal meal. You won't feel rushed, making it the ideal spot for long conversations. The Value Proposition Like many high-end spots in Arcadia, the Value (3/5) is where the experience loses a bit of steam. You are paying a premium for the white tablecloths, the prime location, and the quiet atmosphere. While the food is great, the portion-to-price ratio leans toward the "expensive" side for the area. Final Verdict Shanghailander Palace is the place you go when the environment matters as much as the dumplings. It is the perfect "safe bet" for impressing guests or conducting a meeting over high-quality, authentic Shanghai fare. Just be prepared for a bill that reflects the upscale surroundings. This Shanghai-Style Chinese restaurant is great for group dinners! All of their food was delicious and nicely portioned and their servers were really attentive. We ordered the following: Shanghai Style Braised Pork in Brown Sauce (highly recommend) Chicken with Black Truffle (highly recommend) Fish Fillet with Seaweed (highly recommend) Black Pepper Steak Cubes Dry Fried String Bean Light Fried Water Spinach (Garlic) Braised Meat Ball with Crab Roe Shanghai Style Pan Fried Noodle Shrimp Stuffed Eggplant in Pot Dry Pot Cauliflower Smoked Bacon Shanghailander Pan Fried Buns Bonus: I called ahead to reserve a private room for my party and they initially asked for a minimum so I declined and said I was okay with us sitting in the public area; however, when I showed up, they gave us the private room anyways and didn't hold us to spending the minimum.

We had an excellent experience for a major family celebration event in the back room with 2 tables. The setting was elegant, the service was prompt and courteous, and the food was excellent. They don't have a banquet menu, and our host ordered 8 appetizers, as you can see from my pictures, each was elegantly presented. The main dishes were also very delicious and beautifully served. I had many more pictures of delicious dishes that is over Yelp's quota. Overall, an excellent high end Shanghai restaurant that is highly recommended.

Shanhailander Palace takes over the most authentic Shanghai restaurant in the SGV after Jiangnan Spring closed. Located on Baldwin in Arcadia the space is quite big with a large main dining room and private dining rooms in the back. The food is excellent with many traditional Shanghai dishes. We had a big gathering of friends and school mates with two large tables. Our group came early and closed the place at 10 pm. The service staff was excellent and accommodating. During the dinner we kept on running into friends that were also dining there. The only gripe for the evening was the pace of the meal. All the dishes came out at the same time, so much so it was hard to fit all of them on the serving turn. They have their own large private lot but when the restaurant fills up so does the parking.

Restaurant is large and spacious. Decor is clean and modern. Staff was very attentive and friendly. We ordered the Shanghai style braised pork in brown sauce (tender, flavorful, perfect texture, best eaten with rice), old Shanghai stewed duck in soy sauce (great flavor), sweet lotus with osmanthus (very nice dessert), and shanghailander pan fried buns (good). TLDR: Excellent service, great food, excellent establishment, great value. Would recommend!

If you like strong, food on the saltier flavorful side, then these dishes I had here are the ones for you! -fish fillet with seaweed (it's fried and crispy on the outside but delicious more light on the inside fresh) 10/10 -yellow chives eel (this dish is amazing if you like eel!!! Super flavorful!! Savory and pairs so well with white rice so order one!) 9/10 -pan fried buns (these were obviously not going to compare to the ones in SHANGHAI , but 7/10) -dry fried string bean (good) 8/10 -pickled radish (SO GOOD!!! A Shanghai classic appetizer Highly recommend if you like sweet and crunchy pickled stuff) 20/10 -shaoxin wined chicken (juicy chicken in cooking wine salty and delicious) 9/10 -Shanghai salted mixed rice ( I prefer Shanghai rice cakes more but this 2nd popular Shanghai carb dish, I give this 7/10) Honestly this place is good! The service is like those at quick fast paced restaurants... but overall the food is yummy! Clean and spacious Restaurant, medium noise level, some Shanghai decor for you to take photos and lots of famous people that came to the restaurant in the past is shown on walls. OVERALL I GIVE THIS PLACE 8.5 /10 !! :D Follow me for more foodie adventures Xoxo LIVING WITH LUCI

Family's favorite local Shanghainese food place right now! Thrilled also that we no longer need to drive to Hacienda Heights to enjoy the same deliciousness. The dishes are meticulously prepared and presented. Some of our favorite go to dishes are their fish filet with seaweed, three flavor with shredded dry bean curd, meatball with duck egg yolk, wine fish, braised black cod, to name a few. The only reason why this isn't a 5-star rating is the service, more specifically the male servers who work at this place. The female servers here are incredibly kind, attentive and hard working, and we appreciate them so much. The male servers are the complete opposite. They will insist that you didn't order a dish when they forgot to write it down, consistently forget to refill your hot tea even after the fifth time you've asked them, and basically ignore you until you ask for the check.

My first time dining here was two years ago, and I had a very pleasant experience. Yesterday I came back for the second time with my big family, a group of 14 people. It was a very special occasion for all of us. The food was delightful, and the table presentation was truly magnificent. Based on the fine china they're using, Shanghailander Palace isn't your average Chinese restaurants. We ordered the same 9 dishes per table. What really stood out for me is the Shanghai Style Pork Spare Ribs. Absolutely delightful!! Oh my goodness!! The ribs were well-seasoned with the right amount of sweet and salty, perfectly crunchy and moist! This definitely was the highlight of my dining experience. The other honorable mention are the fish soup which tastes a lot like fancy hot and sour soup, the famous braised pork belly Hong Shao Rou, and mixed salty rice. Since I don't eat beef or lamb, I won't comment on these two dishes. The shrimps were just okay, nothing to brag about. Supposedly, they were cooked in tea which sounded very interesting! Taste-wise they fell short as the shrimps were tiny and mildly flavored. I don't see what the big fuss is all about. I don't blame the restaurant, but I blame my auntie for ordering this dish. Lol For dessert we had sweet glutinous rice filled with black sesame in fermented rice soup. It was very nice! The overall service was decent. We had a teapot of hot water, a kettle of hot tea, and a pitcher of iced water on our table. Food arrivals were perfectly timed, starting with the soup first and then came the rest, back to back. The staff was there doing their job, and I really appreciate their hard work. It's very likely that I'll come back just to order take-out of the Shanghai style spare ribs.

Solid Shanghainese fare. Spacious more modern looking interiors. Clean inside albeit with a lot of boxes hewn around probably because they haven't gotten to Christmas decorating yet. But the food is quality authentic Shanghai style cuisine which likely won't appeal to outsiders. Bit on the pricier side but over all had solid flavor and preparation. Service was quick and friendly at least. Didn't have to wait long. They were also paving the parking lot so parking got limited and the strong smell of tar was everywhere. Likely a place for special occasions in the future bc of the price and fare but still recommended.

Everything came out so quick and tasted good. Service was average. What we ordered: Seaweed fish - piping hot, be careful Pan fried baos - not very juicy but decent Eggplant - tasty but salty, need rice! Braised pork - star of the show. Mostly tender but a few pieces that were leaner were a bit dry Overall the food was good. I'd prob skip the bao's next time. I wouldn't say it's a favorite place of mine but a solid choice if in the area

Excellent food. Service was quick too. They also have a wall of famous people that have visited this restaurant at one point. The heavy hitters are: Black Pepper Steak Cubes and Shanghailander Pan Fried Buns. The veggies were delicious too and so were the fish wrapped in some crunchy green stuff. They serve everything promptly and presentation is 10/10 too. There was no wait time on a Saturday night (they did ask us to leave like 5 mins after we had paid, but they are justified to do so, since another party was coming in). There is also parking in the back.

Say hi to the upper crust of Shanghai. They're here dining on elegant delicacies. No sticky floor, no crispy carpet that was cruddy when it was installed or just left by the prior Tire Shop tenet. No Wuhan Urgent Care vibe. No kiddies running amok like a raped ape. No withered ancient Amah in a corner turning a bottomless bag of Onions into half moons, rivulets of tears flooding the canyons of her wrinkles from cutting Onions or because she's had to cut Onions for over 40 years. The place is as clean as Huadong Hospital and as efficient as the Deustche Bahn Train System. No fuss, no muss, the Host quickly seats you with menus and within seconds the Server glides by to take your order. You order, you eat, you pay, you're in the parking lot, hi and bye. Or enjoy a leisurely dinner. You decide the pace. The food is excellent, made to order and you don't need Musk's income to enjoy dinner here. The Staff: All in crisp clean Black Uniforms, they come in two flavors. They only speak Mandarin or they speak better English than you do. David, the Manager, keeps his eyes on everything in the Dining Room and Banquet Rooms which run like a Swiss Watch. Zoe will happily curate a magnificent meal for you. Ask her a question and her answer is always the same. "No problem". Where were you when I needed a Prom Date? The Dining Room is large, well appointed with attractive decor and buzzin' from the opening bell. The Banquet Rooms are lovely and can accommodate up to 20 people. So book the Bar Mitzvah here? The Bar: Stick with an icy cold Tsingtao although there is a Wine rack if you must. Should you be compelled to bring a bottle of Romanee-Conti Montrachet Grand Cru they will give you extra water glasses. Who goes there? Home sick Shanghainese, if you please. Not a Waiguo Ren in sight the night I went. The Food: The Bar is set high and the Table is set with everything you'll need to dine like royalty. Everything is a cut above what you will find elsewhere. The food is all top quality and prepared by an experienced kitchen team that can walk the Wok. First up was an ample tangle of Spicy Shredded Pork Strips. The spice was just right, and not anything that will pay you a visit at 2:00 AM. This is not a place that will make your lips sizzle and your guts fizzle. The Pork mound wound up in a house made Pancake so thin you could lay it over the LA Times and still easily read it assuming there is much to read in the LA Times that's informative. The Pork had no gristle, cartilage, mystery chew, or fat. Just tender and juicy meat to enjoy, so employ those Chopsticks and dangle the tangle. You'll need some Rice, and the Salted Mixed Rice was nice. This was more of a Hot Pot dish as opposed to a Stir Fry. It was greaseless and laced with shredded Spinach, chunks of crisp Celery, and 1/4 inch long pieces of Scallions along with bits of Chinese Ham. (This was similar to a Smithfield Ham, slightly smoky, slightly salty, and a welcome addition). This Dish would feed 4 Linebackers with enough left over to feed 2 Cheerleaders. The Rice was the perfect platform to showcase the Pork and the Wined Fish Filet which arrived next. Wined Filet of Fish was the dish of the night and available every day. The Filets were as delicate as lace. Boneless Tilapia poached in Shaoxing Wine mixed with a few sliced Wood Ear Mushrooms (Van Gogh's favorite I bet). The Broth was good enough to fill your tea cup with and slurp till you burp. The fish was delish and I wish I had more. In all candor Shanghailander should be your go to.

The beef noodle soup was also flavorful and they give a good amount of tender beef pieces. The beef roll was just okay. The dough could've been a bit thicker and crunchier. Nostalgia dish here was always their JiaoHuo JiaoHuo / Spicy Combination Marinade. We asked if we could change any of the choices, and were told yes as long as it is one of the items from the 5 included (Pig Ears, Bean Curd, Seaweed Knots, Beef Tripe, and Spicy Beef Tendon). Mom & I always add our own vinegar and chili oil to taste and it tastes just as I remembered. We also tried: -Half Tendon/Half Beef Noodle Soup, this was good. We took out the noodles so they wouldn't drain all the broth. Broth tastes good, and decent amount of beef. -Cucumber appetizer was okay, it's just salted. They use Persian cucumbers that were fresh & crunchy. -Shanghai Style Pan Fried Rice Cakes, this had good toppings but the rice cakes themselves didn't have the wok hei of the wok and were a bit dry. -Stinky Tofu (fried) is a skip for me. After my recent trip to Taipei again, the ones here were no bueno. It needs the pickled cabbage, and the garlic soy sauce. They weren't really stinky either. Service was a little slow with the lunch rush. One unisex bathroom available that was fairly clean. Plentiful parking in shared parking lot with the plaza. Will be back again to get my JiaoHuo JiaoHuo cravings satisfied.

We arrived around 6:15pm without reservations, and unfortunately, every table was taken. The wait ended up being ~15 minutes, which was not too bad. To eat, we ordered the Stewed Duck Soup Noodle ($13.99), Shanghai Style Sweet And Sour Spare Rib ($16.99), and the Crab Meat With Dry Noodle ($14.99). Each dish was satisfying. Their dinner dishes are all $12.99 which is super rare! They usually have long wait times (can be up to 30mins) but today was not that crowded so it only took around 20 minutes. They are not super big inside but they do have two private rooms where we got seated with another party, which wasn't bad since we each just eat our own meals. They give free tea, which tasted like pretty good quality tea, and I drank quite a few cups. They also give free edamame and miso soup as appetizers, which was nice. The miso soup has some seaweed and soft tofu which I enjoyed. We ordered the Stir Fried Dry Bean Curd w/ Pork, Braised Pork in Brown Sauce, Stir Fried Cauliflower (not spicy), Fried Squid in Three Flavor Sauce, and the Shanghai Style Sweet Sour Pork. They are super busy but all the dishes were served fast, within 5 minutes of each other and only after maybe 10 minutes from when we ordered. The dishes all looked super good and not too oily. The portions are also reasonable for the price and is just enough for our group to share. My favorite was the Stir Fried Bean Curd w Pork and the Braised Pork. Both were flavorful but not too salty. And the braised pork was had the right amount of fat and the meat was cooked just right so it was tender and not too dry. The others were also seasoned well and we enjoyed it. The least favorite was the Shanghai Style Sweet Sour Pork because it was more sour than sweet and didn't have much meat on the bones, but I still thought it was pretty good. All the dishes were good and very worth the price. It is not something you can find easily at dinner time, especially with this quality. The white rice is also free of charge which is so rare! I recommend this place if you want cheap authentic Chinese food and great service with free appetizers. Just be prepared to come early or there will be long wait times. I will be coming back again.

Parking was easy as there is a good-sized shared lot in the back of the establishment. This is another location of a well-known chain. I recently went to their new addition in West Covina with my sister and nephew a few month ago. We ordered the following to share between us: 1. Juicy Pork Dumplings (4.75/5) 2. Napa and Pork Dumplings (4.75/5) 3. Shanghai Rice Cakes (4.75/5) The overall taste, texture and appearance of the food were all good. I only took off 0.25 because I was expecting it to be steaming hot. They also did not offer us any ginger BUT I didn't feel like requesting it either after the fact. I forgot to take pics again! The food was SO delicious that we gobbled them up before it dawned on me to take pics. LOL Would recommend this place for decent dumplings. I typically like their food items and will try others in the future.

Even thought it was takeout the food did not disappoint ! The portion sizes are big enough to share and have left overs for our family of 4. I say it was worth the $100

Was craving dumplings during the cold weather and decided to give a local place a try! I came here…read moreon a Thursday night at around 6:30pm. I had called 20 minutes before and let them know what I wanted to order via dish name. Parking is available in the back lot but there's very limited spots available due to other businesses being really busy. The store is pretty small since they try putting as many tables as they can. When you walk in, you have to squeeze past the tables to walk to the counter to pick up your order. It felt really awkward since I had to walk in between two tables while they were eating. When I talked to the server, I asked her if she accepted Apple Pay and she said yes. I tapped my AMEX card and it went through but made a weird sound as if it denied. I asked her if she accepted AMEX afterwards and she said no but it already went through. Not sure what that meant... I signed my receipt, grabbed my food, said thank you and nothing back. Food: I got take-out so the food might vary compared to dining in. My family and I did try and eat it as fast as we could. It took 10 minutes to drive home and another 10 to actually eat the food. We ordered the home style chow mein, beef roll pancake, hand made pancake, and pan fried pork dumplings. Home style chow mein (7/10): When we opened the box, the steam was still pouring through. I thought that this one was decent. We did order this one to be cooked with less oil so it might've dried the noodles a little more when it was being cooked. There were lots of different veggies in this dish. I think the protein in here was pork, I'm not too sure. I thought that there was good amount of flavor! Beef Roll Pancake (7/10) : I love beef roll pancakes and will order one if a restaurant offers it. However, this one sort of fell flat for me. There was hardly any beef rolled into the pancake. It comes with 2 big rolls that are cut into 3 so in total you get 6 rolls. The skin was chewy and the sweetness from the hoisin sauce came through with each bite. Some people steer clear of this because of the cilantro but the flavor didn't really overpower the dish. Pan Fried Pork Dumplings (7/10): Of course you need to get dumplings at a dumpling house. I thought that this dish was a tad bit too oily. The dumpling skin was soft and the filling was packed. I do wish that the "pan fried" part was a little more crunchy but it could be soggy because I got to-go and couldn't eat it right away. It comes with 8 pieces which was plenty since we got other dishes. Hand made pancake (6/10): This one is so unique! If you can imagine it, it's like a circle with swirls and the swirls are pulled apart from each other. This dish is so easy to share with other people since you can just rip it apart in strands. I do wish that this one was a little more salted.
