deep fried shrimp glazed in a sweet sauce

My MIL & her fam (they're all Shanghainese) brought me here & it was SO GOOD!!! We had the Shanghai style chicken (delish dipping sauce), a braised fish in a brown sauce (I'm sorry I don't know the name, the smell was SO STRONG but the flavor was amazing, apparently no one else noticed a strong smell I guess I'm not native LOL), deep fried sweet shrimp (I ate most of this myself LOL), seasonal veg (giant sprouts), shredded bean curd (this was soupy, SO GOOD OMG) & an assortment which included small portions each of: jellyfish, sweet lotus root, shaoxin wined chicken (super salty), smoked fish, some veg roll thingy that was amazing & a layered pork thing. Everything was so good. Will definitely be coming back!!!

Came back! My aunt and uncle invited us to watch here again given how much my son ate last time and like the food as well. This time we sat in the middle on a round table, they ordered the pork, fried fish fillet, and noodles again which were just as good as last time. The new dishes we tried were ok such as the stir fried rice cakes, water celery (?) which was new and not our favorite, cold chicken with ginger soy sauce, seafood hotpot, and the best new dish was the sweet spare ribs. I didn't use the restroom last time so this time I did and it was clean, two stalls, and two sinks. We also got a look at the banquet rooms which they had plenty and we thought "what a nice place for a banquet event". Not a bad idea! It was quite expensive, for just us 5 (with my toddler son) the total was a bit much but we did order a lot and I did enjoy the food!

Shanghailander Palace is a wonderful Chinese restaurant in Arcadia. I came here on a Friday evening and they were in full service. I tried several of their dishes, and they were all delicious. Some standouts were the drunken chicken, fried battered fish, and "lion head" meatballs with soup. Docking one point off because the staff, although responsive and diligent, was quite defensive when my party pointed out that the vegetable rice took forever to come out and we wanted to order another dish while wait for the rice. By the time all the dishes were eaten, the rice hadn't come out yet still. The interior looked nice! There was a big TV screen inside. It made me fee as if I was transported to Asia. Overall, I enjoyed my meal here and I'd come back!

Joined a relative for dinner, He says it's literally the taste of Shanghai. I'll admit the taste is very good, all the dishes that were brought out were good except the water celery / water dropwort. It had some kind of vinegar or wine taste to it. My partner said taste like stringy mud. Today's not too busy, the service was excellent. I feel like they paid a lot of attention to us because they had the extra staff floating around (amazing by the way) it made us feel like VIPs We sat in the main hall, looks like there are private rooms available. The main dining area is well lit, Shanghai industrial era decor and some led screens. This place seems like a nice place for a small banquet.

Very elegant style dining! My family and I come here pretty often to celebrate a special occasion. We came here to celebrate my grandmother's birthday and the service was top-tier. They have their own parking lot with what I assume is a privately hired security guard roaming around. We ordered quite a few dishes and they all came out relatively quickly and in order of appetizers, main dish, dessert! The lobster with the rice cake mixed in was the absolute star. The rice cakes were SOAKED with the lobster juices and it tasted magnificent. Everything was very well seasoned and cooked beautifully.

Came here first for a holiday work dinner...and it was so good I had to bring the family for Lunar New Year. Also~ if it's good enough for President Obama, it's good enough for us. Highlights: the steamed fish and house special short rib were . And the smoked fish cold appetizer? Straight up tasted like bacon decided to become a fish . Only misses were they forgot to bring one of our dishes because it was slammed for LNY, and the Shanghai soup dumplings had no soup. Like...where did it go? That's the whole point. Kids enjoyed the yogurt drink and adults found the red bean rice ball in wine soup a pleasant dessert. Overall, Shanghainese food leans a little on the sweet side.

The food was delicious and every dish we ordered was flavorful and well prepared. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the service was attentive throughout the meal. The prices are a bit on the expensive side, but the quality of the food makes it worth it for a special meal. Definitely a solid spot for Shanghai-style cuisine and we'll be coming back again!

Lions head with salted egg, sautéed pea sprouts, Shanghainese fried rice, 苔條黃魚, kung pao chicken, garlic egg plants 魚香茄子
    Gerrie M.

We had dinner here and ordered some of our favorite Shanghainese cuisine. I was especially impressed with the lions head made with salted egg inside. The meatball itself was extremely tender and the salted egg just added so much umami flavor to it! We also had the kung pai chicken though I was expecting less brown sauce as true Shanghainese kung pao would have it. All was very tasty and would definitely go back again.

The Food: High Marks for U.S. Standards For those who have dined in Shanghai, the food here is "Overall OK"--meaning it hits the traditional notes without necessarily reinventing the wheel. However, by U.S. standards, it is easily in the top 5% of Chinese dining. The Classics: The Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) have thin, delicate skins and a rich broth, and their Braised Pork Belly (Hong Shao Rou) is decadent and appropriately sweet. Consistency: The kitchen is remarkably consistent. Whether you're ordering the sautéed river shrimp or the crispy eel, the execution is disciplined and clean. Ambiance & Service: Built for Meetings The 5/5 Ambiance is what truly sets Shanghailander Palace apart from the crowded, bustling noodle shops nearby. Professional Setting: The interior is spacious, elegant, and relatively quiet. It provides the kind of "face" (mianzi) you want when hosting a business meeting or an important family dinner. Flawless Service: The staff is attentive, professional, and well-trained in the pacing of a formal meal. You won't feel rushed, making it the ideal spot for long conversations. The Value Proposition Like many high-end spots in Arcadia, the Value (3/5) is where the experience loses a bit of steam. You are paying a premium for the white tablecloths, the prime location, and the quiet atmosphere. While the food is great, the portion-to-price ratio leans toward the "expensive" side for the area. Final Verdict Shanghailander Palace is the place you go when the environment matters as much as the dumplings. It is the perfect "safe bet" for impressing guests or conducting a meeting over high-quality, authentic Shanghai fare. Just be prepared for a bill that reflects the upscale surroundings. Food 4/5 Ambiance 5/5 Service 5/5 Value 3/5 Overall 4/5

Shanghai Style Braised Pork in Brown Sauce

This Shanghai-Style Chinese restaurant is great for group dinners! All of their food was delicious and nicely portioned and their servers were really attentive. We ordered the following: Shanghai Style Braised Pork in Brown Sauce (highly recommend) Chicken with Black Truffle (highly recommend) Fish Fillet with Seaweed (highly recommend) Black Pepper Steak Cubes Dry Fried String Bean Light Fried Water Spinach (Garlic) Braised Meat Ball with Crab Roe Shanghai Style Pan Fried Noodle Shrimp Stuffed Eggplant in Pot Dry Pot Cauliflower Smoked Bacon Shanghailander Pan Fried Buns Bonus: I called ahead to reserve a private room for my party and they initially asked for a minimum so I declined and said I was okay with us sitting in the public area; however, when I showed up, they gave us the private room anyways and didn't hold us to spending the minimum.

We had an excellent experience for a major family celebration event in the back room with 2 tables. The setting was elegant, the service was prompt and courteous, and the food was excellent. They don't have a banquet menu, and our host ordered 8 appetizers, as you can see from my pictures, each was elegantly presented. The main dishes were also very delicious and beautifully served. I had many more pictures of delicious dishes that is over Yelp's quota. Overall, an excellent high end Shanghai restaurant that is highly recommended.

Restaurant is large and spacious. Decor is clean and modern. Staff was very attentive and friendly. We ordered the Shanghai style braised pork in brown sauce (tender, flavorful, perfect texture, best eaten with rice), old Shanghai stewed duck in soy sauce (great flavor), sweet lotus with osmanthus (very nice dessert), and shanghailander pan fried buns (good). TLDR: Excellent service, great food, excellent establishment, great value. Would recommend!

To eat, we ordered the Stewed Duck Soup Noodle ($13.99), Shanghai Style Sweet And Sour Spare Rib ($16.99), and the Crab Meat With Dry Noodle ($14.99). Each dish was satisfying. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be the Stewed Duck Soup Noodle. The Crab Meat With Dry Noodle (one of my favorite dishes I tried in Shanghai) was admittedly a bit of a letdown. Also, rice is free!! And cooked soooo well like not mushy at all. I know some places charge extra for rice but not here. You also get complimentary edamame and miso soup. Hunan Style Fried Pork-- it looks intimidating but the chilis are the fragrant kind!! Super mild baby spice, not like eating serranos. Super good flavor, wok hei is there, definitely getting again Stir Fried Pork Belly-- Similar to Hunan style but instead of chilis it's ... onion. There's so much onion. We just picked out the meat. Order the Hunan one with chili instead of this. Steam Greenland Halibut-- ORDER MULTIPLE!! One is not enough to share with the table!! It's so good you pretty much just want your own. It's like banquet style whole steam fish softness and texture and flavor.... Without the enormous price tag. Braised Pork in Brown Sauce-- Melty fatty tender goodness. The sauce is super rich and savory. Pretty much everything here is made to eat with rice so if it's too salty for you.. eat more rice. Stir fry dry bean curd with pork-- Look I know it's not the most appetizing looking or all that in terms of color palette.. BUT IT IS GOOOOD! Not all restaurants can make a good tofu dish but wow this is amazing. The flavor profile reminds me of that bean curd appetizer at din tai fung with the seaweed strips and bean sprouts. It's savory, slightly vinegary, meat is really tender and the tofu texture just goes sooo well with everything. Fried squid in three flavor sauce-- WARNING!! There's the clear squid bone (?) attached so make sure you pull it out !!! Flavor wise it's my first time having a sanbei dish that wasn't chicken. It's good though! Super tender, just make sure to pull out that clear strip and you're all set. Kung Pao Chicken-- Basic dish but NOOOT basic flavors!! Best kung pao chicken I've had in my life my god. We ordered it for the kid lolol but we probably ate more than he did. The chicken is super soft and tender and there's mala spice!! It's not the Americanized flavoring but actual spice and mala. Stir Fry Fish Fillet in Spicy Sauce-- Super soft fish and it comes with tofu too. Flavor is kind of like mapo tofu? It's good with rice!! No complaints 10/10 had a great time, love the price, and definitely will be coming back. There's a big parking lot too!

I had called 20 minutes before and let them know what I wanted to order via dish name. Parking is available in the back lot but there's very limited spots available due to other businesses being really busy. The store is pretty small since they try putting as many tables as they can. When you walk in, you have to squeeze past the tables to walk to the counter to pick up your order. It felt really awkward since I had to walk in between two tables while they were eating. When I talked to the server, I asked her if she accepted Apple Pay and she said yes. I tapped my AMEX card and it went through but made a weird sound as if it denied. I asked her if she accepted AMEX afterwards and she said no but it already went through. Not sure what that meant... I signed my receipt, grabbed my food, said thank you and nothing back. Food: I got take-out so the food might vary compared to dining in. My family and I did try and eat it as fast as we could. It took 10 minutes to drive home and another 10 to actually eat the food. We ordered the home style chow mein, beef roll pancake, hand made pancake, and pan fried pork dumplings. Home style chow mein (7/10): When we opened the box, the steam was still pouring through. I thought that this one was decent. We did order this one to be cooked with less oil so it might've dried the noodles a little more when it was being cooked. There were lots of different veggies in this dish. I think the protein in here was pork, I'm not too sure. I thought that there was good amount of flavor! Beef Roll Pancake (7/10) : I love beef roll pancakes and will order one if a restaurant offers it. However, this one sort of fell flat for me. There was hardly any beef rolled into the pancake. It comes with 2 big rolls that are cut into 3 so in total you get 6 rolls. The skin was chewy and the sweetness from the hoisin sauce came through with each bite. Some people steer clear of this because of the cilantro but the flavor didn't really overpower the dish. Pan Fried Pork Dumplings (7/10): Of course you need to get dumplings at a dumpling house. I thought that this dish was a tad bit too oily. The dumpling skin was soft and the filling was packed. I do wish that the "pan fried" part was a little more crunchy but it could be soggy because I got to-go and couldn't eat it right away. It comes with 8 pieces which was plenty since we got other dishes. Hand made pancake (6/10): This one is so unique! If you can imagine it, it's like a circle with swirls and the swirls are pulled apart from each other. This dish is so easy to share with other people since you can just rip it apart in strands. I do wish that this one was a little more salted.
