Boiling Point is a popular Taiwanese hot pot restaurant originated in Taiwan and was brought to the U.S. by owner Rick Chou, opening the first location in Hacienda Heights, CA in 2004. Unlike traditional communal hot pot, each diner receives their own small wok served over an individual burner to keep the soup bubbling throughout the meal. The restaurant offers roughly 10 distinct soup base, including popular choices like Beef, Lamb, Seafood Tofu, Milk Cream Curry, and polarizing House Special (which features fermented "stinky" tofu). Our favorites are the House Special and Spicy Beef. The broths were flavorful and paired well with their garlic soy sauce and spicy bean paste. The restaurant offers lunch specials which include a complimentary ice green or black tea. The interior of the restaurant is contemporary, trendy, and casual, though the space is relatively small compared to other Boiling Point branches. Service is limited, it's difficult to flagging down servers for our needs especially during peak times. Parking is primarily limited to street parking which can be difficult to find during peak hours.
The Boiling Point app no longer shows their waiting list, so you are no longer able to strategically pick a less crowded location or anticipate how long your approximate wait would be. When my boyfriend and I arrived to the Boiling Point - Arcadia, the tablet where you checked into prior, was covered by a QR code, that forces you to allow your location because you can only join when you are there. There is no indication of how many groups are in front of you, or how long the approximate wait is... and no staff in sight for me to inquire with... Visually it looked like 3 groups of 2 and 1 group of 6 before us, which wouldn't be bad. But it turns out a bunch of people were waiting in their cars. The wait was 50 minutes!! Had I known so many people were in front of us, I would have gone elsewhere. My boyfriend ordered his usual #4 Beef ($20.35/dinner) and I ordered my usual #6 Milk Cream Curry ($20.26/dinner). The prices continue to increase but the ingredients are reduced and swapped with inferior alternatives. When the weather is cold, my body yearns for hot pot to nourish myself but waiting for nearly an hour in the cold was counter productive to my health. I also want to point out that they didn't allow anyone to wait inside. We don't plan on coming back to this location since it's especially small and crowded... and I am definitely reluctant to go to other locations as their quality declines and I can't even glance to see how long the waitlist might be.
I've done a lot of takeout from this location, but this time we decided to dine in. It's one of the smaller Boiling Point locations, so lines can get pretty long depending on the time of day. We signed in through the app, and fortunately, since we were a party of two, we only had to wait about 10 minutes. Overall, the experience was great. The service was fast, and our food came out in under 10 minutes after ordering. The staff was really friendly, and everything tasted delicious. I actually like this location more than a few of the other BP spots. Love that they have drinks now! Parking - It's downtown Arcadia, so it's just street parking wherever you can find a spot.
Looking back at my old review... I have some updates! I did notice that throughout the last 2 years, the volume of music has gone down, which I greatly appreciate. Another point I would like to note is that although the price has increased a bit in the last ~5 years (which is what my old review was highlighting), their quality and portions have remained consistent. I understand that price increases of everything are to be expected, but I think I had written that because it felt steeper than other places. One minor change is that black tea is not an option for the lunch drink anymore, so the options are green tea or wintermelon tea. Honestly, I eat here way more than "on occasion", I am back at least twice a month (why did I even write that before). My favorite is always the House Special with vermicelli because it has a variety of ingredients inside, all of which I love. With the quality ingredients and delicious flavors, I leave feeling satisfied with my meal every time. It seems that I was previously a bit harsh, but I love BP and will always keep coming back :)
I've tried the other boiling point locations and can definitely say the service here is the best. It was about a 20 minute wait on a Friday night. I love their Beef Hot Pot with vermicelli! I love that they have drinks so I can get my boba fix in as well. It is really clean but little seating.
good spot for hot pot! i ordered the beef hot soup with mild spice and extra vermicelli. you can choose between a side of rice or extra vermicelli. the sauces they provided pairs well with the beef! i was extremely full after the meal. service was attentive! they provided more hot water for the soup, gave napkins, and refilled water cups without asking. came on a sunday night and it was quite busy. they have a tablet to sign up on for the waitlist. i waited about 10 minutes. parking was easy and convenient.
I love BP! To get on the waitlist, you need to turn on location services for your internet browser. (It's some website... not through yelp) Once seated, my friend and I were able to look at the menu via the QR code. I got the rose milky and really liked it!! It's a nice subtle milky flavor and didn't have any rose taste. lol! We also got free drinks w our lunch. I got the green tea but didn't realize it was sweetened. The staff were really nice. There were some trainees so they were all very attentive and came by our table often to refill our broth and waters. Free parking so that's also a plus!
Boiling point makes hot pot so easy and accessible! You can customize your bowl, spice level, add ons, and the lunch special hits when you can get a green or black tea to cool your mouth in between bites. The soup is warm and comforting, the meat is tender, and getting tofu and crab meat, there's just much packed into each bowl! The staff is nice and tries to get you in quickly and is helpful, the seats are spaced out so it feels roomy
Boiling Point is one of the most consistent hot pot spots around. My top 2 would be the Taiwanese Spicy or Beef Flaming soup. One thing to keep in mind: the Flaming spice level at the Chino Hills location definitely hits different than the one in Arcadia. Chino Hills loads it up with some explosive chili oil that might have your stomach questioning your life choices (still worth it though). As for the ambiance, don't be surprised if it feels freezing while you're waiting for your food. They seem to keep the thermostat around 60 degrees, but you'll warm up fast once you start eating. As for the service, it's nothing amazing, but nothing bad either. Pretty standard and efficient. What keeps me coming back is the consistency. The flavors are always there, the ingredients taste fresh, and the quality never seems to dip. If you're craving dependable, flavorful hot pot, this is the place.
Alright I know you might think I'm crazy but sometimes I crave eating hot food on a super hot day. Who's with me?!? Anywhooo this spot has been here since I was in middle school! I remember the days of getting out early and going to eat hotpot with all my friends with their lunch special hahaha I really do feel like this spot is an 626 staple. You choose from a small, but mighty, menu of different broth flavors + toppings. It's a pretty speedy process as they bring the pot to you with all the goodies cooked. Then lighting that chafing fuel so the food is hot for as long as you want! The beef hot pot is a classic and always my favorite. Beware of going above mild for spice as it gets pretty fiery in my opinion. I do feel the consistency hasn't changed one bit. Although I do miss the days of the enoki mushroom but I'll live....maybe Sometimes parking can be a bit tough when there's a lot of families during prime dinner hour. However not impossible to snag a spot on the adjacent streets. Service is always quick and attentive and they also brought back the little cups of juice instead of the packets (The world is healing) So if you want a soup based lunch/dinner that's quick and satisfying, Boiling Point is your guy!! Final verdict: Slurp-tacular ;)
This was my first time experiencing hot pot and it was SENSATIONAL! I already knew going in that this would be a fantastic experience solely based on the fact that my friend chose it as a lunch spot for us. ALWAYS trust your foodie friends; they know the way ;) There's 2 hour parking right outside the restaurant and if you can't find a spot there, there's plenty of street parking available. The dining room was spacious and was also PACKED with folks who were out for lunch. While the menu was compact, there was still plenty of variety! I was debating between the Taiwanese Special and the beef. I ultimately went with the latter, since the spice level for the Taiwanese Special as Flaming Spicy. I'd like to ease into that spicy experience eventually, just not today! Along with the beef hot soup (with medium spice), I ordered the winter melon juice - which was DIVINE! It was just sweet enough, supremely flavorful, and refereshing. Within a handful of minutes, our hot soup/stoves were delivered to us and we dove right in! The flavor of the broth as well as the variety of accoutrements were absolutely delicious! The fish cakes, cabbage, and tempura were my favorite of the bunch. I will ABSOLUTELY be coming back to Boiling Point to try more menu options, the next time I'm craving something soupy. This is also a great choice if you're wanting to go to hot pot but don't have a large enough group for the traditional pot-in-table setting. 10/10 recommend!
This is a location I visit quite often. Before COVID, most Boiling Point locations generally had poor and unfriendly service. Among them, this branch was at least one of the better ones. As of now, I would say this location offers the best service compared to all the other branches. The staff ask at just the right moment whether they may turn off the burner, and they come to refill the soup exactly when it's needed. They even bring napkins without being asked, which I truly appreciate. When service is this thoughtful and sincere, there's no reason not to leave a generous tip. I've noticed that the service has improved significantly over time, and I feel genuinely thankful for that. In particular, whenever I see young Asian staff members working diligently, I sincerely hope they all achieve great success in their future endeavors.
There was long wait obviously because this place is really popular even if there are so many locations everywhere. This place is worth an half hour wait anything longer is debatable. But they try to get you in and out pretty quick which is good. They try to take orders before seating you, so once you sit the food comes. Now the service is okay, very typical asian don't expect the best but they do get the job done. The food is pretty amazing, its a like a chinese version of pho! A small is a good size equivalent to a large pho I would say, if you want to share maybe a large would work. read more

I lived nearby and always passing this restaurant. Oneday I'm craving for hotpot and decided to go try it out. Simple menu but looks promising. The hot pot always hot because they have stove on the bottom. Love it the way of service. read more

I had the Miso Hotpot and it was fine. Good, but not amazing. The soup base was mildly miso, but mainly tasted like salted water. The pot was chock full of udon noodles, sliced pork, cabbage, so I guess it was a decent meal. What truly was outstanding, however, was the stinky tofu. It had a true Taiwanese taste, and was eons better than the hot pot. The service was quick and efficient, but it wouldn't hurt the waiters to smile every now and then. Would I come back? Sure, but I'm definitely not ordering the Miso pot. read more
I saw one of my friends post a picture of a "hot pot" on IG and I knew I had to try it. THE AMBIANCE: The restaurant is fairly small and is all table seating. The restaurant has pictures on the wall showcasing the different hot pots you can order. I have to say that I was not impressed with the service. I arrived around 2pm so the lunch rush had slowed down by that point. I sat with a menu for about 10 minutes. After a waiter took my order, I sat without a drink for another 10-15 minutes. I actually got my rice bowl before my green tea. I was thirsty. THE FOOD: I got the lunch special, which was a hot pot (there are some hot pots where they charge more than the lunch special), a side - noodles or rice - and green tea as a drink. I believe it was $7.99 and the more expensive hot pots brought the lunch special to $9.99. Not bad. I ordered the Beef Hot Pot, no spice, and added an egg. For my side I followed a previous review that recommended the rice instead of the noodles to get more bang for your buck. The rice was good and when the hot pot came out the broth was tasty. It definitely had an oriental taste to it similar to pho. When the hot pot was placed on my table before I began to eat it, the waiter lit up the holster it comes in. In other words, it comes in a sort of stove-like structure and they light it up so it keeps the bowl warm. The broth, however, was literally to its 'Boiling Point' and kept spewing on the sides of the bowl. I requested that the fire be turned off. Even after the fire was turned off I managed to burn my tongue because the broth was that hot. :( ! If I visit BP again I will request that the waiter not light the mini stove because it already comes out hot. THE TIPS: Plenty of 2 hour street parking on 1st Ave. They also sell macaroon ice cream sandwiches ... hmmm... might have to give that a try to see how they are. read more
The thing with this place is! there is so much vegetables in the soup rather then meat and seafoods. total budget restaurant style lol.. I've tried this place twice one was in a different location. I tell yah they are all the same hehehe... the sea food is fishy. either its not fresh or just bad fish.. maybe my next trip to this place things will change!! try it guys if you love vegetable and fishy soup =] read more

Went here for the first time after hearing other friends say good things about it. Not a big fan of stinky tofu so I was pretty skeptical about being stuck in a restaurant that serves it in the soup. I ordered the soup with beef. I like spicy foods but don't have a high tolerance for it, so I ordered mild. I wanted to order the Watermelon Juice, but they ran out so the waiter recommended the Hokkaido Milk Tea. The milk tea was delicious! It tasted like flan in a milk tea form. The pot was filled to the brim with soup, meat, and vegetables. I was thoroughly impressed with the amount of food given and it was very tasty. They also had a small sauce bar with my favorite sweet garlic sauce. The waiters and waitresses were all very friendly and made dining there pleasant. I had an overshot good experience here! I've also heard a lot about their shaved ice/snow, but my friends and I were too full. That'll have to wait for the next visit. We got there around 6:45pm on a Wednesday night and it was not crowded at all. I would suggest not to get there after 7:30pm, or I hear that the wait can be pretty terrible (1hr+) read more

I've been here twice now and both times I've had to wait for about 30 minutes. I've never had Taiwanese hot pot before so I went in without any expectations. The hot pot is really good and it's actually quite a bit of food. I haven't been able to finish more than half of it... so next time I might try sharing. I don't like that they give you water in small styrofoam cups... not good for the environment AND it holds 2 gulps of water. The alternative are milk teas, but I asked them for it to be unsweetened and it was still SUPER sweet. The ice cream sandwiches are macarons with ice cream in between.. but they're a little difficult to eat. I would say they're prettier than they are good, though. I'll definitely come back, but it'll be for the hot pot.. nothing else. I'll probably bring my own water, too. read more

If you like stinky tofu and hot pots, come here! Lunch time special is such a good deal, for $8.99 you get a drink and your choice of hot pot. Everything is cooked and ready before it gets to your table. The arcadia location is much larger than the Monterey Park one. You have everything in the pot, veggies, tofu, pork, large intestine, pork blood. read more

No line when we eat late lunch! We got here at like 2:45 and lunch hours ends at 3, I thought we wouldn't be able to get seated before 3pm and we wouldn't get a free green/black tea, but they let us order first so we still got the free drink :D we only waited for about 10 min before getting seated, the hot pot came pretty fast this time and we were out of here by 4:30. The ice cream macarons are good, I've tried the matcha one and the strawberry one, I like the strawberry one more. read more

Love the food here, but there's downsides to the restaurant, especially the one in Arcadia. There is very little parking at this Boiling Point, and most people park on the street. As with the Boiling Point in Rowland, this boiling point also typically has a very long wait time. However, the food is amazing, especially on a cold or rainy day, because the hot soups meat and noodles become even more satisfying. However, on a cold or rainy day, it's such a hassle to go through the typical hour-long wait time here. I guess you can only get quality food with some patience (sigh). Anyways, I would definitely come back here even though this place is inconvenient, because the food is amazing! read more

First time here and I must admit this place is Ah-mazing!! The restaurant itself is pretty hidden, so you do have to make a couple of u-turns to find it. I ordered the lamb hot soup (medium) and he ordered the beef hot soup (spicy) and both were extremely delicious and extremely satisfied. Theres 10 different soup base to chose from and a believe different selections of meat. I was mainly here just for the lamb because I was craving it. I will however order additional lamb because there wasn't enough meat for me in my soup. Will be back to try the other different soup base :) read more

Boiling good. Ordered the Taiwan spicy. Yum and it packs a kick. Also add the tempura ass a side it adds a special flavor. Green tea is sweet and they don't let you know that up front and that's my only complaint. Food is worth the wait. Will return when not so busy. read more

I have been to this restaurant a few times and each time we go the food and service gets better and better. I always get the beef bowl mild and that is perfect for me. Just know if you go around lunchtime there is usually a 10-15 minute wait. read more

Boiling point is absolutely delicious! Such a great place to get some warm yummy soup on cold day or even when you don't feel like cooking! I get the beef spicy medium and it's the perfect amount of spice for me. The broth is super flavorful and even better they offer a bunch of things like enoki mushrooms,tofu, NAPA cabbage, and an assortment of yummy add ons. Beef is also included in the soup and it's the perfect amount, not to little but a generous amount! Along with a soup the Hakkaido Milk tea is soooo yummy! Definitely recommend this place! 10/10 read more
I have to say this location smells much better than the others; it may be the lack of "stinky tofu" being served at the time, but without a doubt, just as good as the others. I found a first edition magazine published by Boiling Point, which seems to be making a mainstream attempt to be the best Taiwanese hot pot restaurant. I enjoyed reading about the owner and liked the coupons they had in the back, even though some have expired already. Wouldn't you know it they had a coupon for stinky tofu in December? Well, back to my food, I ordered a medium spicy lamb dish, and medium to be more on the hot side at this location. I knew that that oily red color of the broth was an indication that I would be sweating up a storm in the restaurant, and later into the evening as well... As of this writing, I have survived hot pot spicy, and look forward to some nice organic fermented tofu at the Pasadena store only. I just gotta use that coupon before it expires! read more
