Great restaurant. Cozy, hole in the wall vibes. Delicious food with lots of gluten free options. We had the zen salad, bison steak, grilled prawns, and pot du creme for dessert! Great mocktails-- try the pandan one! We came on a Friday night and there was a short wait--It's a small restaurant. Great service. Moderate noise level. There was a tv at the bar showing the Olympics! Highly recommend!
Such a cute intimate restaurant. We tried to here on Friday but they are fully booked so we were really excited when we had the chance to dive here yesterday for dinner. We ordered a variety of dishes, one of my favorites being the smoked bison and goat cheese flatbread. Also loved the top of Yaki octopus falls. This is a great Vibe for smaller party looking for some amazing Asian dishes in Banff
Small place, and the estimated wait was ~40 minutes but we ended up getting seated in half that time. It's very cozy inside and we came after seeing the high reviews on Yelp. There is quite an extensive menu, and we chose an assortment of items to share amongst the 4 of us. The korean fried chicken was by far the best thing, but didn't really taste like kfc. The duck rolls were okay, the short ribs were decent, and the fries were also pretty good. I also got the pork bao which I thought wasn't anything special. I don't think anything was that worth coming for, but it did the dinner fix.
Super cozy spot for lunch. Loved the vibe and the food. We ordered a burger, duck drummettes, japanese beef and vegetable soups, and calamari. Everything was so delicious and the ingredients were very fresh. The soup brought back memories of my grandma's stew! The duck drummettes were a such a treat as well. It must've been slow cooked first to get the meat soft, and then fried to get outside crispy. So good! Server was super nice and food was made fairly quickly. So glad we checked this place out.
Good food. Tapas style. Service was excellent. Very casual walk in restaurant and albeit small in size they accommodated our family of 9. There is indoor and outdoor door seating. Chicken Karaage: 3.5 stars. Comes with spicy dip. Chicken was a little spicy so may not be great for little ones. Soft shell crab Bao bun: 3.5 stars. Crab was good but with the bun it lacked a little flavor. Tokyo fries: 5 stars. Crispy, well seasoned with takoyaki sauce and mayo, bonito flakes and nori. Bison burger: 4 stars. Decent flavors not gamey. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed. Red Devil calamari: 3.5 stars. Thick chunks of breaded calamari steak drenched in the red sauce. The calamari was seasoned with sauce it self and flavored as well. Good flavors. Too much sauce and breading. Not sure how the katsu curry bowl was but my brother in law devoured it. Quite a bit of drink selection but it was too early for me.
If you like a tapas style dinner this is a great spot to check out, the food is very good! Our server had a pretty bad attitude and seemed like she really didn't want to serve us which was odd and kinda ruined the experience. Restaurant is very small so I'd imagine when it's busy it'll be hard to get a table! Worth the visit for some good small plates, hopefully you have a nicer server than we did as the food is the only thing that made this a 3 star!
Block is a cozy restaurant and bar with room for only about 20 guests. Lucky for us there were two open seats at the bar. Service was great and the food was outstanding. Block is an Asian fusion restaurant, with a large menu with many items that looked tempting. We decided on the Salmon and Beef Lettuce wraps. Both were delightful. For desert we had the Tiramisu Brownie Brûlée. The flavor combinations were unique and enjoyable. Portion sizes were generous. Prices were reasonable, $20-30 CAD. We highly recommend a night at Block.
Really impressed with this place! A tapas place with kind of an Asian twist, and so delicious! They apparently change their menu up every so often but here's what we had: The block fries are a MUST! They were the perfect crispness to potato ratio like McDonald's except even better because they were dusted with nori flakes. And the accompanying spicy mayo sauce makes you forget all about ketchup. Definitely our favorite thing we ordered. The special of duck drumettes were also very good. Perfectly fried and crisp on the outside but still moist and perfectly cooked on the inside. The Korean beef short ribs were really good, too! Had some of that grilled smoky flavor and I loved the accompanying pickles and kimchi for a little bit of acidity and lettuce to provide a bit of crunch. The cold ramen salad was probably our least favorite thing (not that it was bad, the other dishes were just so good). The broth had great flavor and the noodles were perfectly cooked but there were just a few too many toppings for my liking and I think I prefer my ramen hot! Overall, so delicious though. Oh, and I also really appreciate that each plate is a respectable amount of food (unlike at some other tapas places I've been to).
Cozy, chic Japanese vibe. Very cool! Friendly, fast service. The food was beautiful and very tasty. Love the location in the heart of tiny but very mighty Banff.
Amazing food the server dude was awesome great all around experience we got the ramen 10/10 salad 10/10 Poutine Fires 10/10 .. Service 10/10 oh and the lettuce wraps Epic Xavi times 10
Small place but amazing. Food was great across the board. The drinks were so good!! The Yuzual Suspect was a standout -- super refreshing, bright yuzu, a touch of coconut sweetness, and a smooth, silky finish. Way too easy to drink in the best way. Space is tight, but 100% worth it. Would come back again just for the cocktails. My favorite place in Banff so far!
This is a unique restaurant as it is tapas style but Asian influenced food! Due to some roadwork there's no patio currently and the interior is small but we lucked out and got the last open table right away. My friend and I split the duck spring rolls and I got the beef gyozas - both were great. A lot of the menu items sounded good but were too spicy for me sadly. Our waitress was really helpful in giving recommendations.
Walked in on a whim because every other restaurant in Banff was already closed at 9 pm! Thank goodness I did bc they stay open late. It's a beautiful restaurant-I sat at the bar -had a smoked old fashioned and a delicious summer salad and pork and apples. It was impeccable and the bartender kept me laughing! What a perfect spot for dinner! Check it out if you're visiting!
Flavors flavors flavors. Everything has a unique taste with this Asian, middle eastern flare to it. The service was great and really friendly. I would definitely recommend this spot. Super fun spot in downtown Banff! Our server Lorayne we amazing! So much fun and very attentive. The FOOD was beyond belief!! I'm a food snob and this place is incredible. Had the spicy chicken dish and the poutine fries were EPIC! Just eat here and you'll be HAPPY AND FULL! read more
An adorable Asian fusion establishment in the heart of downtown banff! We had three people separately recommended this spot so it was a must hit. Organization and staff is the only reason we took one star off. The staff was crazy busy but the host messed up our waitlist.... Multiple times. Meaning we waited over an hour for a table that three groups behind us were seated at first. But honestly... the food kept us around. We ordered a lot to share including two tofu Baos that were perfectly crispy and sauced. If you are looking for a Bao dripping with sauce this isn't it... because this is perfect. The risotto made us raise or eyebrows but honestly the black rice and curry sauce with the Asian style mushrooms were a perfect compliment to one another. We would come back for this repeatedly!! Our only comment was it would be nice if it had a bit of spice to it. Last pictured is a mix of the salmon and the ceviche. The portions were pretty small but the flavors on point. One of the best meals I've had in a while! The cocktails were amazing, the food was innovative and delicious, and the ambience/service were great as well. It's a small space but the cozy atmosphere is perfect for a date night. My husband and I split the spring rolls, spicy prawns, mussels, and a bao bun and everything was perfection. The sauces and flavors really elevated all of the dishes. We can't wait to come back next time we're in banff! read more

It was my first time going to Town Banff. This resto did not disappoint me at all. All the food that we ordered are all good and yummy. We'll definitely coming back here. The staff are very nice and accommodating. The place and ambiance is very nice. We did outdoor seating so we can see the beautiful scenery of the mountains. Super love all the food. read more

Atmosphere - 5 Cleanliness - 5 Quality - 3 Service - 3 Taste - 3 Stopped by for dinner during our visit. This seems to be a very popular spot during busy hours so there was a bit of a wait. They do take down your information and message you once a seat is available for you which I found to be reliable. We sat at the bar and so I expected service to be somewhat faster than it would at the dining table but that was not the case. We had to call for service most of the night and it seems everything was taking a while to come out. The drinks were also just okay. We started with the duck spring rolls and chicken karaage. Both were extremely disappointing. The duck was dry and quite frankly tasted old. The karaage was 90 percent breading and 10 percent chicken. It also lacked greatly in flavor. This was a huge let down and gave me very little hope for the brisket soup and my curry. However, the soup came out flavorful. I felt there was possibly beer or something alcoholic in the ingredients and it was very present in the taste. The green curry was in my opinion the most delicious meal of all the plates and yet it fell short in consistency as it was very watery. I think if the curry was made just a little more thick, it would be perfect! Overall, I found block did not meet the expectations set by their ratings and long lines but it is quite good for its location and what it is. I would visit again if ever in the area. read more
Just drove into town in Banff and had to try a poutine fries with the cold weather. Block Kitchen + Bar did not disappoint at all! We tried their poutine fries and it was so good! Their customer service was great as well so that topped off a great trip to this small restaurant in downtown Banff! Highly recommend going here! read more
Wuuuutttttttt...how is this place SO insane amazing?! We had heard this place is ALWAYS packed and somehow, we got super lucky on a Sunday evening and scored seats right at the bar for an early dinner. (If you walk by and are remotely hungry or thirsty and see an open table or bar seats, GRAB THEM - they are almost always packed and the seating is super limited.) We started with a round of drinks - and yes, the Unbeetable is as unique and delicious as it sounds. Order that drink! We shared a bunch of dishes - the beef tataki, the bison flatbread, the fried chicken, and the chef's curry of choice that day. Here's what I can tell you - I didn't even get pics of most of the food because we couldn't wait to dive in. The star of the show was ABSOLUTELY the curry. Whatever the special is, get it - you can't go wrong with the curries and the Naan is on point! They're fairly gluten friendly, just let them know if that's an issue. You can probably manage to eat keto here but honestly, this is one of the places where you should really just break some rules. And finally - vegetarian is super easy here, so don't be shy if someone in your group isn't a carnivore. The bartenders were both super nice and helpful as well, but be sure to ask Chelsea about her trip to Japan - the snow sounds epic! read more
We saw the high reviews here and decided to check this place out. We came in on a Tuesday after the long weekend and were able to put down our names on the waitlist. Our table was ready for us in about 20 mins. Our server was attentive and kind and helped us pick up some great drinks. All the cocktail options were fun and interesting. This is a tapas style place with small food portions so we ordered a bunch of stuff. Pork Kimchi Gyoza, Takoyaki, Japanese fried chicken and Korean fried chicken, fries were all excellent appetizers. We also got a mushroom flatbread which was excellent! It is on the pricier side but it does offer decent value for money! Would recommend you try this for their innovative menu! read more
Came here on a weekend afternoon and it was pretty busy. Their space is small but they had a table in a corner that we fit into. I ordered the spicy korean fried chicken and it was decent. It was really crispy which was good but they had too much sauce so it just tasted like I was drinking sauce. The chicken itself was also burned on one side so I couldn't finish that part. I upgraded and got tokyo fries and I do not think they are worth it. There's not much difference except they just add some sauce that is also too strongly flavored. read more

Food was SO delicious. Everything was unique and flavorful from the bao buns, to tuna, and the lettuce wraps with duck were awesome. It's the kind of place where you just want to taste everything. The restaurant itself was a bit loud for my taste, from the music and the large table next door, it was hard to hear anything. Other than that, would definitely be back! read more

I had this place bookmarked and despite how starving we were, we stood our ground and waited for the 1.5 hour wait for a table. Thank the food heavens above because it was so worth it! It also gave us enough time to walk the entire downtown Banff area which had SO many other food options too that looks amazing. Anyways back to my breakdown of Block... Specials of the day: - Veggie Samosa: Can I get like 10 more orders of this? So good! - S+P Duck Drumettes: Who thought of these?! These are AMAZING. Not sure why there are more places cooking these! Regular Menu: - Asian Lettuce Wraps with Beef Brisket: Yes, add this to your order or even make it your meal if you're eating light. - Mushroom Risotto - One of a kind, but good and surprisingly vegan. - Tokyo Fries - Hard pass for me, but my boyfriend said they were good. These were listed on the appetizers too but they came out last and only warm, not hot. Pretty sure our server forgot about them and they were just sitting under the heat lamp. Overall, small place with maybe 10 tables and a few seats at the bar. Service is a teeny bit slow, but the quality of the food makes up for it. read more

Amazing little gem in Banff. We went back twice on our trip because it was so good! Get the Tokyo fries but ask for extra sauce and then mix up the fries well - so delicious! One of the best burgers we've had ever (and were from Texas, USA so we have high standards!) The naan which, the pork belly bao and karaage chicken were also tasty. read more

This restaurant is simply exceptional - we heard rave reviews from friends and glad we decided to try it. They don't take dinner reservations, so we were lucky to get in; the place is really busy and when we were leaving at 6:30 there were over 10 people waiting at the door. The dining room is small (fits 15-20 people max) so the wait could be quite long. Everything we tried at Block was cooked to perfection and the combinations of spices were very interesting. We had spicy calamari, beef tataki rolls, ahi tuna tataki, and spicy prowns. Highly recommend all of these! The service is very quick and the prices are right. We were told that the chef is from Montreal but he lived in Japan for many years. That explains the unique fusion of Asian and European flavours. We found our new favourite place in Banff. read more
This place was recommended to me by Yelp Vancouver herself. Deliciously known for it's worldly tapas, cute interior, and adorable outdoor tables, we were sold on this place before we even knew this was the spot she'd mentioned. I loved how interesting and diverse the menu was, and eventually settled on the takoyaki. I'd never tried this Japanese favorite before, but I love octopus so was excited to try it. It's essentially a battered ball filled with more flour-y batter and filled with octopus, tempura, ginger and onions. I'm not sure that it's my new favorite dish, but it was incredibly made and I could tell the ingredients were quality. My husband ordered poutine and it was super delicious as well. Of course I stole fries. #WhenInCanada I saw people with cool-looking cocktails as well, but it was only 2pm and we had a lot of hiking we wanted to do. Definitely check this spot out! read more

This was a great find, probably the best spot in Banff to grab drinks and tapas. This is a tiny little spot with limited seating and they don't take reservations, so if you are coming with a large group plan on waiting. I came with my husband and we were able to get a spot at the bar right away. It was fun to watch the bartender make different cocktails. He even recommended me a nice cocktail based on my taste and it turned out to be so good that folks at the nearby table also ordered one each for them. We also got a few tapas to share - bison flatbread, salmon tartare and something else that I don't remember. Everything was pretty good. This is a must stop if you are in the area. read more

Super tiny and adorable restaurant! Walked in Friday night, in off season, and had about a 20 min wait. This was stop 1 on our restaurant crawl and it did not disappoint! Order: - several awesome Margaritin la vida Cocos - salt & pepper duck drummettes - smoked bison flatbread Those chili margs...wayyy to easy to drink, pitcher please! The boyfriend LOVED the duck drummettes- big duck guy - so much so I got approx 2 of the ~6. The smoked bison flatbread was bomb. That goat cheese and onion and pesto combo, delish. Would have loved a little more bison on top. One of the more reasonably priced spots IMO. read more

In need of a late lunch, we strolled in to this tiny joint. The friendly, attentive service was splendid and warm. The decor is fun and inviting without being too kitschy or overdone. The food was the real winner! I had the Japabao Dog, and I didn't even think that such a magnificent thing could exist. However, the *only* complaint was that the food came out at way different times. This could be because of the small kitchen and short order style, but my daughters meal came out WELL after my wife's and my food. If that's no big deal for you, don't skip this place. Yo sooo good!!! I had the bison flat bread and the flavors were just right. It is a tiny place so we were lucky to be seated right away during lunch time. My husband had the bison burger with a side of soup. Portions are huge and the staff were patient and nice. read more
Definitely a smaller place, but the food was good! A nice blend between American and Asian cuisine. No complaints - wait was slower but they do what they can with a smaller staff and smaller kitchen. Great location too. I'd recommend sitting outside! It's worth it. I got the Crispy chicken sandwich - sandwich was great, fries ok. The charcuterie board was fun to eat. Filling! read more

A very small place but amazing food and service! We are self proclaimed burger snobs and really enjoyed the burger. The fries had a very delicious seasoning and came with a side of spicy mayo which my boyfriend loved. I preferred ketchup with the flavors of the spices personally. The lettuce wraps were also very good - came with 3 things to add with the meat: a spicy sauce, kimchi, peanut sauce. All 3 were very good! Service was very fast and our server was sweet and personable. They also had a really intriguing specials menu! read more

Had a very good meal here when I visited banff. It was warm and good. I would say it's a bit pricey for a ramen but very good and worth trying. The staff were friendly and made sure you were having a good experience. read more
