Reservations are strongly recommended if you want to dine here. The meatballs were my favorite dish. The pizza was underwhelming despite the hype. It had barely any Italian sausage on it. There are other better pizza spots in Banff.
A stop in Banff on our trips to Lakes Louise and Moraine. The driver said there's an Italian place across from Eddie's burgers that has a 50 layer lasagna. Of course we went there! I don't know about 50 layers but the food was fresh and tasty. We (spouse and I) had the meatballs (they are a pale white color FYI) and an arugula salad with lemon and garlic chip. AND the 50 layer lasagna! It was delicious! A very light tomato sauce on the lasagna and very cheesy. A little crunchy because of the way they heated it up but so good! Service was attentive and she was so friendly. This restaurant just off the main strip-had outdoor seating and a little bar area as well. It was a busy place. Just go!!
We are here twice. The first time our server was amazing, Menon (sp?). We had the Nduja pizza and calamari. Both were so good, we went back a week later. We sat at the bar, as it was a wait for a table. It was on a Saturday night around 6 pm. The bar tender was friendly enough. I felt the consistency of the previous items was not there. The pizza didn't have as much meat as the first time and the calamari had a little too much sauce on it. I also ordered the radiatore limone pasta. While I thought the pasta was fun, the flavor fell a little short. It was lemony without any flavor. The ambiance was chill, lovely on the patio in the summer.
Incredibly kind service. Delicious food. We loved eating in the open air with Mountain views. Try the torpedo (toasted sub) - I've never had anything like it!
I looked on Yelp for a pizza place and this showed up. It's small but quaint. The server was great and check on us all the time. Pizza is thin crust except around the edges. The have three sauces that you can spread on a piece of crust. The pepperoni was a little spicy and good.
This place is super vibey and has a cute ambiance but I will say the pork sausage and the vodka sauce is extremely spicy! I normally eat picky food but it was too spicy to enjoy unfortunately! Other than that the service was great!
Came out this way for a week of winter fun. We were looking for great pizza and Pizzeria Sophia came highly recommended by the staff at The Moxy. We got there, got a table right away in the cozy and warm inner of the restaurant. Great fresh Caesar dressing on the side. Mushroom pizza add mushroom well done. Nduja add sausage extra crispy. Check out the scissors. Weirdly effective. Just never thought of it.... Tasted as great as it looks. Highly recommend.
Walk don't run!!! I would like to preface this review by saying I wasn't craving pizza. My group had their hearts set on it, so we popped into pizzeria Sophia. All 4 of us left raving about it. If you're looking for authentic Italian (or honestly just a really fresh, good meal) in Banff, look no further. We split the Caesar salad, arancini, nduju pizza, Margherita pizza, and rigatoni a la vodka. Everything was phenomenal. The pasta was a little spicier than we expected, but fortunately I love spice and we were splitting so it was great. The Nduju pizza was a crowd favorite. The flavors balanced each other perfectly. We also split a bottle of wine (all of the wine is Italian), and it was perfect. Duncan did a FANTASTIC job walking us through the menu, pointing us in the right direction, and taking care of us throughout the night. He was personable and helped make it a great dining experience. 10/10 recommend.
Recommend by a friend. Sat outdoors and ordered three different pizzas and a Caesar's salad. It was yummy. Crust was chewy and the ingredients were tasty. Salad was done right. Reminded me of pizza in Lake Como! Three of us couldn't finish and took half of the pizza back. Where we sat was outdoor with table umbrellas, very casual. Don't know about the indoor seatings.
Fun little place with some pizzazz! Great service even though they were really busy. I ordered a chili mango margarita which was a little different - smokey- but good. We ordered the mortadella meatballs appetizer and those were amazing!! And we got the 'Nduja pizza. A sweet red sauce with spicy sausage, red onions, and basil...really good...and we don't usually like sweet pizza sauce. Glad we came!
This is a very cute pizza place in downtown Banff. The pizza was pretty good with a fluffy crust and nice sauce with quality pepperoni. I also ordered the Cesar, which I was not impressed with. I like my Cesar with a little crunch and this salad lacked that. There was also way too much dressing on the salad which made it very hard to eat. The service was okay, when we entered the restaurant it was not that busy and they sat us right by these people who knew the chefs but weren't customers and they were very loud and kept invading our space - I found it an odd choice since the restaurant was empty. I am willing to give this shop another try - but I will only get pizza this time! Happy eating!
Yummy!!! We had pizza the night before, but it fell a little short so we were still craving pizza. Sophia's was so good. I like how they didn't cut the pizza like how they do it in Italy, but they still gave scissors. Great dough, classic Italian style. We got the nduja, but the meat was super salty. It would go great with a bottle of wine or a beer, but I'm not drinking right now.
Loved the pizza and sitting out on the patio for lunch! We had a margherita pizza and the Nduja as well as the burrata dipping sauce and everything was great! The combination of sweet honey with spicy sausage on the Nduja was perfect. Great pizza!

There is a lot of hype at this restaurant so you may want to make a reservation. We did not do that but we're lucky to have a 15 minute wait. We were sat right up against the host stand so hearing walk-ins quoted 45-1 hour and 45 min wait times. We ordered 2 things to share and an appetizer. We got the honey chili ricotta & focaccia. It was interesting but good!! Then we got a Margherita pizza to share and the bolognese pasta. It was made with a white sauce so that was different. The pizza - which is why most people come was actually just okay to me. They gave scissors to cut it but I didn't like the softer crust on the pizza. The pasta was very good! I love the uniqueness of it. And the flavors were great. We finished all of that! read more

Had to wait 50 min and were seated at the bar. The chef is renowned. All pizzas are the same 12" size. Margherita Pizza Added pork sausage (guanciale) and in hindsight, a grave error because it made the middle too soggy and the intensity of the guanciale overwhelmed the more subtle basil and red sauce flavors. I also wasn't impressed by the dough. I mean good, not great. Tuna crudo Salty and tangy. A distinct exercise in contrast to the rest of the menu. Nice presentation. Caesar Salad Pangrattato, reggiano, anchovy, pork guanciale. In my opinion, the star of the show. Looks incredible and savory but the dressing is actually on the light side. The Parmesan crisps and anchovy strips take this to another level. Salami & Artichoke Pizza Too salty, and not enough artichoke representation. Fun lively vibe and good selection of local drinks. I would try a different pizza next time. That's all. read more

Starving after a long day of hiking and expecting the usual mediocre touristy food options, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality pizza Pizzeria Sophia offers. We opted to sit outside to enjoy the view. While the menu includes some pasta options, we focused on the pizzas. These Neapolitan style pizzas are about personal sized, we ordered the Nduja (5/5), Margarita (3/5), and Pepperoni (4/5), and a Caesar salad (5/5). The undercarriage of the pizzas were thin, soft and chewy and the crust was perfectly airy, the only downside was some portion of the undercarriage was slightly burnt. The refreshing Caesar salad came with real anchovies and house sauce. They actually provided scissors for each pizza which was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend this place! read more
Located in downtown Banff as one of the street level restaurants. We sat outside since it was very pleasant. I honestly didn't expect a good pizzeria in the touristy portion of Banff but was pleasantly surprised. We ordered a Caesar salad (surprisingly good, and came with real anchovies and a house dressing, 4/5) to start. We split three pizza's; a margherita (3.5/5), a pepperoni (4.5/5), and a nduja (4.5/5). Really solid dough and pizza crust and the tomato sauce was a good quality sauce. Only complaint is that the bottom was slightly overdone on some portions of the pizza. For the meal; it came out to around $100 CAD prior to tax and tip. Much better than expected for a pizza spot in a resort town! read more
Pretty solid Italian food, most known for their pizza. We did try the Nduja aka spicy pork sausage pizza. We thought the pizza was tasty but a little salty. Their crust is light, fluffy and excellent. The Roman spaghetti was also salty. Their two salads, were the best though. The Panzanella and beets and burrata were excellent. We had takeout and literally all the pizzas were so burnt that they were inedible. My family was shocked that they even served this to us. They probably didn't pay attention because we were a takeout order. I don't know about the dine in experience, but I don't recommend buying takeout from this place. If you are going to eat their food, eat it in the restaurant. read more
I was a walk-up hoping to grab a seat. The staff greeted me and seared me at the bar. They have both outdoor and indoor seating. The ambiance inside was just "cool". The music was instrumental without being distracting, and perfect at creating a good vibe. They're more than a pizza joint. This place has a lot to offer and new spins on the regular dishes. Ultimately I had a Caesar salad with chicken.. quite a big plate! I was lured there with the promise of the best pizza in town. I was not let down... absolutely amazing. Recommend getting the dipping sausage on the side, you'll thank me later! read more
Outdoor seating had a nice lookout on one of the side streets. Happy hour on for half off pizzas and drinks was excellent (loved the glass). The torpedo was okay. Pizzas are definitely the hot spot but are kinda small personal size. We had Nduja and pizza alla vodka - nduja is definitely a must - a little spicy itself, and we ordered the pistachio honey chili crisp as an extra spice kicker. Definitely a must and would come back for the pizzas and drinks during happy hour. 9.5/10 worth it for the deal. read more

You've got to go for happy hour!!! We had Sophia's recommended to us by multiple different locals, and for good reason. We stopped in to check out their espresso martini that we heard was awesome (it was) and we ended up canceling a dinner reservation elsewhere in order to stay for more! The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, the food is great and the overall vibe in this place is good! We ended up going back the next day to try a couple more of their cocktails. This is a must stop spot for drinks in Banff!! read more
