This is just another chain restaurant, similar to Olive Garden or the Cheesecake Factory with an "all-inclusive" menu so you get a soup/salad, tea and ice cream as part of every meal. I didn't like that, I don't want some cheap sad looking salad, I'd rather just pay for what I want to eat. When I arrived 60% of the tables were empty at 1pm on Sunday yet you have to wait 20 minutes to be seated. I see someone else complained about this last year but nothing has changed. You get paper napkins at a this sit down restaurant. I couldn't taste any pesto in the fettuccine. The dish was mediocre, nothing special. My server was attentive. As I was walking to my table I saw a guy throwing up at his table and the hostess said he's a regular. Wait you know he does this and you seat him in the middle of the restaurant where everyone can watch and lose their appetite? I sat in the back on a high table next to the window and even though the blinds were down right next to me, the sun was still so hot on my face. I like the idea of an "all-inclusive" menu and it was nice to get a soup/salad and a dessert as part of every meal. For appetizers, we got the sweet potato fries and calamari. The calamari was fine, but the sweet potato fries were great! They were thinner than other sweet potato fries I've gotten and well-seasoned. They also gave us bread at the beginning of the meal. It was a loaf of bread that you cut yourself and came with a nice whipped garlic butter. I got the minestrone, which tasted like canned soup but it was loaded with veggies and pasta. My entree was the tortellini pomodoro with chicken, which tasted fine. It was a bit underseasoned, but the vegetables in it were much needed. Lastly, they offered ice cream at the end of the meal and I really liked it! We a great server and she was right on top of everything, , but coming from areas with true, ethnic italian culture and food, this was a bit of a let down. Pasta was ok, the chicken in my dish was pretty tough (and was likely the cause of my upset stomache). Wife's clamsauce on her padta dish was also about average. Long wait. We added ourselves to the wait-list and they said that they'll text us after 45min-1 hour, and they never did. We went back after 1.25 hours and found out that they were preferring people waiting at the restaurant over us. Chicken Parm and sphagetti wasn't very flavorful. Could use more seasoning. We came in for lunch, the wait was soooo long even though 85% of the tables were empty. It seems like they are low on staff. The waiter who served us was very rushed and kept making sarcastic jokes. I came here for dinner without a reservation, and luckily I only had to wait 5-10 minutes! I always get the manager's special at every OSF that I go to, but this one was disappointing. The minestrone soup is a very small portion. And while my pasta size was large, there was absolutely no browned butter in my mizithra cheese portion. My rich meat sauce portion was pretty standard in flavor. The spumoni was good, but I feel like it's better in the US. I think they used vanilla instead of cherry ice cream here. The food was not good. The spaghetti was bland and the meatballs were bland and dry. The Alfredo noodles were originally with spinach noodles, which a person at my table didn't like. He asked for spaghetti noodles instead of the spinach ones, but our server said that he couldn't do that. Our conclusion was then that the spaghetti came in a bag. Upon walking in we were seated after ten minutes of waiting, even though there were more than enough tables open. We were sure there were three families in the entire restaurant. There was one server, Alex, who seemed to be running the entire restaurant. I assume we were sat near the window so others would see that there were people in the restaurant. The whole thing was a little hokey. The fact that this place was in a mall didn't quite hit us, and we didn't know that was a food chain. This IS NOT affiliated with the Old Spaghetti Factory's in the USA. Totally different. However, it was solid. Nothing great, but you know what you are going to get. Pasta, Salad, Bread and Spumoni....all for one cost. You will always leave full, so that is good too and you are paying a fair price. Not the crazy prices some of the italian food places in town charge, which are very good but not for everyone's budget. I will say, the entire staff was outstanding and everyone was very nice. Great place in the heart of Banff! Gotta know it is upstairs and inside the Palace Shops mall - not the easiest to find by signs. Reservations a MUST in the summer given it is very popular for a menu that will fit anyone. The place is spacious and clean for such a venerated business. Tables & booths spread out so not too loud. Great for large groups. The bread, salad or soup and small dessert "all included" is great and the value for Banff prices is excellent! We had pesto linguine with chicken which was super good and spaghetti with meat sauce, also good. First, we had to wait to be seated in an empty restaurant. The restaurant itself was big, and we were seated, as requested, at a window overlooking the street and had a great view. The waiter was fairly prompt. I ordered a top sirloin with a side of spaghetti. Actually, all meals come with soup or salad, entree, fresh bread, and ice cream for dessert. The salad and bread were delicious. The steak was cooked well but was a low quality piece of meat and tasted like they forgot to season it entirely. The spaghetti was pretty good. The name "OSF" sounded familiar for some reason, although I never tried it before. However, when I came across the restaurant when in Banff, I knew I had to stop by to try. We looked over the menu and we were excited to see that there was a lot of options for us to choose from compared to nearby restaurants. On top of that, the restaurant has an amazing view of the mountains! It's a bonus. For less than $20, you can pretty much get a 4-course meal which includes bread (& garlic spread), a soup or salad, the main dish (depending on whether it's part of the "it's all included) & ice cream. After trying the restaurant on day 1, we loved it so much that we came back the next day again and we were served by the same waiter. Bill is super nice & demonstrates great customer service. This place is my go-to if I ever visit Banff again. You can't beat the deal you find there. The quality of the food is fresh and tasty. read more

Best bang for your buck in this touristy town. For about $20 CAD you can get salad/soup, entrée, and dessert, paired with tea/coffee. So affordable! I got the spaghetti meatball with minestrone soup, hot tea, and spumoni ice cream (blend of vanilla/chocolate/pistachio ice cream). My friends each had the ravioli - one with alfredo and one with red sauce. I think you can substitute sauces with different noodles if you want. We waited about 30 minutes to get seated after 8pm. I believe they're short staffed since there were tons of tables but not enough workers. The meatball spaghetti tasted interesting... the sauce tasted a bit plastic like, and the meatball definitely tasted like it was made from elk meat or really old beef/pork meatball. It lacked so much flavor and was really dry - we were unsure what kind of meat it was. I had a hard time finishing this and ended up leaving 1 meatball uneaten, and gave 1 to my friends to try. The sauce was a bit disappointing, I'm not sure how you can mess up making plain marinara sauce. Prego or any other canned sauces tasted much better than this. My friends finished their ravioli meal and thought they were OK. The minestrone was the most decent part of the meal. It was warming after a long day of hiking/driving. The spumoni ice cream came in large portions. We were all definitely really full afterwards! The Old Spaghetti Factory is a chain restaurant and delivers in this way. It's located on the second floor of a mall which makes it super convenient for people walking through downtown Banff. That being said, like all restaurants in Banff, it's pretty crowded, so it's pretty important to get a reservation. We called about 2 hours before we wanted to get a table for 5 people and we were successful. When we sat down, we received very attentive service from a waiter who was constantly filling our water, and who gave us extra ice cream in the end even though we only had ordered 4 entrees. The prices were lower than most places in Banff, and so it made eating here a good option for us near the end of our vacation. The meal portions themselves are pretty small, but they're delicious. Given the bread, the soup (which was pretty standard, but good), the ice cream (a mixture of sorbet and vanilla), and the actual meal, the value was excellent. I'd go here again. read more
