Basic pub menu- but offered with a culinary flair not commonly found! Apologies for sounding like a foodie but the kitchen offered flavours that I would not expect: Burger Sauce that is kicked up with a little horseradish (not the mundane 1000 dressing knockoffs found in every other restaurant) that made their cheeseburger remarkable while the shareable sausage board offered the best contrast of a juicy (not greasy) sausage with a chewy (not tooth breaking) pretzel and a cheese sauce with just a little kick of pepper. We visited mid-week mid-afternoon and had the place to ourselves but can imagine the place rocks at night and during high season. Definitely worth a visit! read more

Rose & Crown is a perfect spot for great views, great service and great food and drinks! Located in Downtown Banff, we choose to sit outside and had gorgeous views and enjoyed the sunshine. We, of course, sampled more Canadian beer and poutine! The chicken poutine was not something I thought I would order, but it was on special and why not? The Chicken Poutine is incredible and full of flavors that are out of this world. We shared the chicken poutine and I loved Kevin's Beef Dip and we shared a side of the traditional poutine - so good. Melty cheese curds, delicious and hot fries and the gravy...take me back right now! The fish and chips were yummy and light and the perfect lunch portion. We loved our visit to Rose & Crown and it's definitely some of the very best food we had in Banff! read more

Okay so the views from the rooftop are great, but the rooftop is ROWDY. I'm in my twenties and didn't want to spend my evening with so many twenty year olds. It seems like quite the après ski spot, but I don't think any of the people there actually went skiing that day. It was basically a huge frat party on the rooftop with canned beer for purchase and a DJ. If you're looking for a nice, classy spot to watch the sunset - this is not it. We were crammed in the corner next to their barricaded section of the rooftop and didn't stick around longer than it took us to finish the drinks we bought downstairs. read more

Went to Banff with my family (toddler included) and I have to say out of all the meals we had in Banff this was by far the most enjoyable. My partner ordered the crown burger ($26) and it was huge and loaded with toppings. I order the beef dip ($24) and our toddler got the chicken nuggets. I get it's Banff but a tiny bit overpriced. $5 to upgrade to a really small poutine. However, really fresh and good tasting. The waitress was super fast and friendly. Ambiance, meh it's a pub not 5 star restaurant, could do with an update. I do appreciate it was clean though and there were no fruit flies on our food or around us! Really appreciate it since the other places we went to in Banff were covered in them. Would definitely go back. read more

When we arrived at Rose & Crown, we were left waiting for a long time while multiple staff members walked past us without acknowledging us or making eye contact. When I finally managed to get someone's attention and told her we had a booking, I was told "it should be around the back" with no explanation or offer of assistance. We walked around the back with our group of nine and saw that our table clearly had a reserved sign on it, yet other people were seated there. After they left, we sat down to find the table covered in empty glasses and beer cans. I politely asked a staff member (wearing a green flannel-style shirt with shoulder-length dark brown hair) if the table could be cleared. Her response was abrupt and dismissive. She questioned whether I was "with that group" and whether it was the reservation, then said nothing further. When I quietly asked again if someone could please clear the table, she sharply replied, "Yeah, I'll get to it." When she came over, she slammed the empty glasses onto her tray directly in front of my friends and family and began wiping the table. My partner tried to ease the situation by saying it was fine, and she responded with a curt "well," which made the interaction feel tense and uncomfortable. She then wiped the table directly in front of me and walked away. Afterwards, my partner noticed her speaking with other staff members and repeatedly looking over at our table. When other waiters came over later, their tone toward me was also abrupt, which made it feel as though the situation had been discussed among staff. I felt embarrassed and extremely uncomfortable in front of my friends, my partner, and family visiting from Australia. I had been at work all day and was really looking forward to this, and the experience ended with me in tears. I understand hospitality can be busy, but ignoring guests, mishandling reservations, and treating people with hostility is unacceptable. Unfortunately, the service at the start completely overshadowed what should have been an enjoyable evening. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, as no guest should be made to feel this way. read more

We stopped in for a drink before grabbing dinner. It was highly rated for the views, so I wanted to give it a try. It has an old pub feel, it's definitely not new and renovated and seemed like an older spot in the area. We headed straight to the rooftop and if you're lucky to get a spot against the railing it does have some cool views, but some of the patio is blocked off from the view. Service was okay, we had to flag down the waitress every time we wanted something. Drinks weren't special by any means, felt like college bar drinks. Still a cool spot, but there's some way better options on the strip. read more

Solid spot in downtown Banff. The food was better than I was expecting. I had a Mediterranean wrap with lamb meatballs (can also get falafel) and French onion soup. We split vegan poutine as a table and also got the key lime pie to split for dessert. The soup had too many onions and not enough liquid for my preference. The wrap was actually quite good and filling. The poutine was some of the best I've had, even though it was vegan. It was so good. The key lime pie was also very creamy and good. They have a fun selection of gin drinks to choose from - my friend had one and really liked it. I did not have a drink but they had your standard bar list. It looked like they have daily specials on cheap beer and some shots, if you're looking for a place to throw some back. It had a very British feel to it. Great servers and great views! I recommend sitting on the rooftop patio for Mountain View's. They offer good specials on beer and have great poutine with pork. Well worth the money and I didn't have a wait which was a huge bonus. read more

Was looking to enjoy a cocktail somewhere outside with a view and Rose & Crown was recommended. Though you can't tell they have rooftop seating by looking at the outside, boy do they have rooftop patio seating! Checked in with the hostess on the main floor to inquire about cocktails (I had been craving an espresso martini), she let me know that they didn't have one, but did have something kinda similar, and even recommend a couple other places in town I could find one! Talk about stellar service! We decided to head up and check out the space and were immediately sold once we saw it. Grabbed an open table, ordered our cocktails, and enjoyed the view! I got the shaft on draft, which is one of Park Distillery's creations, it was refreshing and not to mention only $6. If we didn't have more drinking plans to tend to, I definitely would've stayed for another round...especially at that price! They had a food menu as well, though we didn't look at the menu, the food around us looked and smelled good, wish I had been hungry! Overall the place had an amazing view, quick and friendly service, and was a fun place to enjoy a drink! They also had a pool table and plenty of seating inside, felt very divey, but in a fun way. read more

Great views! We all got tacos (special of the day) and poutine, so not a huge variety of stuff. Also tried a Caesar which is kinda like a Bloody Mary if you're into that. I didn't expect much from the tacos but they were a decent size and the meat was pretty tender. Place was pretty busy on the roof but service was still decent. read more

We were looking for some comfort food after a busy day skiing at Sunshine Village. And the Rose & Crown fit the bill! Service was fab & fun with our adorable waitress who enjoyed joking around with us a bit. I ordered a shaft on draft (weird but worth a try) and a cider/IPA half & half. Hubby had a Wraspberry ale (yum). Lunch was simple & satisfying. A hoa hung "The Rose" noodle bowl for me. A lightly spicy & hearty soup with lots of veg, noodles & chicken, topped with a skewer of shrimp. Hubby ordered chicken fingers (they were ok) with a side of DELICIOUS French onion soup. I loved the puff pastry top and will be replicating this at home! I'd like to come back at a time when it's a bit busier, perhaps when there's live music. I bet this joint gets rockin'! We stopped in here for a bite one evening but Rose and Crown was not our first choice. The first 3 places we tried said they stopped serving food at 9:00 due to a shortage of employees. Dan took good care of us but this is more of a place for the younger crowd to have a few cocktails. The Chicken and Apple Club and also the Chicken and Pork Belly were very dry. We found the prices reasonable for Banff. As we were finishing the band was starting to play. It would have been impossible to have a conversation so our timing was good. read more

It was so tender, not chewy or difficult to eat at all on top of a slice of a perfectly crisp garlic bread and a slice of melting cheese. Amazing. The Button Bites were also yummy! Found this place via Yelp. Thanks all. Appreciated the COVID check at the door. We were here early on a Tuesday. The Taco Tuesday special at $7 for two was great. Had the fish and chips too. The server said to get one piece and she was right. The pieces were massive and the fish was delicious. Fries were okay and the cole slaw was meh. Had two local pints and they were both great. The place loses a star for charging $5 for an iced tea and the audacity to not offer free refills for that price. read more

I can't say enough good things about this bar. As a tourist (California), I wanted to go out the last night or two in town and really hang out. Fulfill my childhood dream of listening to Rush in a Canadian jukebox. First night, a Wednesday, I went there on a recommendation of Wild Bill's across the street. Couldn't stay there all night, you know. It satisfied my base needs... enough TV's so that I could get my hockey game on, enough of a selection of beers and food. The bar is huge... many rooms, several bars (I didn't see upstairs/patio), and a smaller "den" with TV's, pool, and another smaller bar. And of course, service. That deserves it's own page. It's ALL about the service. The bartender I met had to be the coolest ever. He went far out of his way to see that I had a great time, including introducing me to other people/locals there, and buying me a few drinks. Even a few Teal drinks that weren't for my Sharks but for his Leafs. Funny thing was, I was wearing a Flames jersey... got a lot of crap for that, well deserved. Next night I returned with the folks and watched another Sharks game, and ordered dinner. Really enjoyed it. Apparently one cannot get beef anything less that well done in Calgary, but that wasn't an issue as it wasn't dry. Everything was really decent. Watched a band which was really really good. Lots of people dancing and just plain having fun. No douchebaggery. I suppose Banff being a nicer tourist town makes everything nicer, but everyone was as fun as anywhere else. Canada, your beer sucks. Sorry, I'm from the center of Craft Beer heaven in San Diego, so maybe I'm used to real 8%+ IPA's... but the Big Rock Ale sufficed. Separate issue, wasn't impressed by Canadian beers until I had the IPA and Barley Wine from Grizzly Paw. Brewery. Keith's IPA should have the IPA stricken from it. Like ordering Guiness and getting a Zima. But not your fault, Rose and Crown. End of review. I had such an amazing vacation in Canada, and nights like these really make you fall in love with the town and the people and give you something to remember for a very very long time. We stopped in to Rose & Crown for lunch on our shopping day in Banff. Sadly their patio was closed for Reno, so we just seated ourselves in the dining room. Our waitress came pretty quickly and was very friendly. Our table ordered poutine, fish & chips, a burger, and two orders of mac and cheese. I had the fish and chips and it was really good. Not as good as one I had in Jasper the day before, but still. very good. The batter was light and not greasy at all. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meals as well. We do wish we could have enjoyed patio dining, but maybe next time. read more

By far the best restaurant we've been to in Banff and we've been to all of them including all the five star, even though this place charges may be perhaps 10% of what those ridiculously overpriced restaurants charge I would still prefer to go here because the food quality is spectacular for what you pay, you get amazing money for your dollar, but most importantly the wait staff are unbelievably spectacular. And the view if you were there in the summer and you're sitting on the patio I cannot even describe, this is $1 million view. I feel terrible I can't remember our waitresses name because she was spectacular.......ooops I just remembered her name is Bridget !!!!!!!! I highly recommend their Fish & Chips especially on the day they have their Fish & Chips as their special of the day (Friday?). They are located on the second floor so you can people watch while enjoying Fish & Chips and a pint. They offer an option of one or three pieces of fish with their Fish & Chips. One piece was plenty enough for me but I would reckon three pieces if you're a big Fish & Chips fan like myself. read more

My first time to Rose & Crown in Banff and i probably won't make a special trip back. The good news is that they are able to serve children and even have a kids menu. Selection is pretty minimal but can't really expect much because they really weren't built to cater kids. When we first arrived, we stood at the desk waiting to ask someone...anyone...about whether we seat ourselves or wait to be seated...eventually after 5 minutes with servers running past us...we decided to seat ourselves. My guess is that they were understaffed or something. When we were finally served and provided menus, we received our food in a respectable time period, even though they seemed super busy. However, the food was below average at best and prices were way too high for the quality. A $18 pizza and we received a super thin and crunchy pizza that tasted bad and the crust was so hard that it actually looked old and past due. Just looking at the crust you can tell it wasn't right. However, the 2nd pizza wasn't as bad...the crust was actually a bit more manageable. The Beef dip wasn't very good and the Mac and Cheese was small and was average...but definitely not reflective of the price. Overall, not a place to seek out but probably a great place to get hammered for a night life. Place is pretty big and looks like it could be a good time with a bunch of girl friends looking for a good time. read more

I used to love this place but new management or new ways their training their staff has seriously changed. I came in last night for one of my best friends bachelorettes. We had planned on staying all night and drinking but the bouncers was extremely rude to us. I spoke with the manager and got an I'm sorry and that was it. The food and service was horrific as well. I come to Banff 4 or more times a year and always go to the Rose and crown but after the way we were treated last night I will not be returning again. The only person who even tried to make things better was the bartender and she was still rude about it. Very bad experience for me and my friends. read more

Came here for dinner after a full day of hiking and sightseeing in Lake Louise/Banff. We started on the rooftop patio (very nice), then moved to the main floor because we wanted to order off the full menu. Service seemed better on the rooftop, as we had to wait a bit before catching a server's attention. We ordered the beef dip sandwich and the elk stew. The beef dip was good, but not great. The sandwich had a strange sweet aftertaste that was odd. We couldn't tell if it was from the meat or the bread. In addition, the au jus seemed to have some added ingredients which was entirely unnecessary. It was saltier than expected. However, my elk stew was delicious! It was so tasty. Thick meat chunks and vegetables in a burgundy gravy. The puff pastry on top of the stew was a perfect accompaniment. I would order it again in a heartbeat. It's a little pricey, but that's typical for the area. read more
