Overall the food here was pretty good and on par with what I would expect from a pub. The burger had a house sauce and BBQ combo on it that was delicious. It's worth noting that this is a double smash burger. The poutine side with the burger was well put together, the fries were crispy and well salted. The fried brussel sprouts on the other hand were a little bit of a confusing dish. This dish is surprisingly quite light on brussel sprouts and seems almost more like it's meant to be a salad. In addition, while the sprouts are fried and crispy, the same cannot be said for the bacon. Overall, I'd like to see more Brussels, crispy bacon to better crumble around the sprouts and less arugula. The burnt ends were a pretty good dish but were little tougher than I would normally expect from a pice of meat like that and had a texture more similar to rib caps instead of brisket. They also didn't seem to have been smoked on a smoker and just had a smokey glaze instead. I really liked the vibe of this place, it's a very relaxed environment to come and unwind at after a long day out in the parks. There's a semi-private outdoor patio with plenty of seating and good spacing between the tables. I also really thought that the service here was great, the staff were all amazing and super friendly. We followed the sign, "Please wait here to be seated." Four stars for initial lack of customer service - no eye contact, no communication to say that we'll be with you shortly until five minutes passed. There were four other employees that passed us, did not glance our way, and appeared to be preoccupied with dining patrons. Lively evening. We were only greeted by a female employee after she cleared and cleaned a table under the umbrella outside. We had to guess or read body language and figure out if the table will be for us or another party. Four stars for The Canadian Burger. Bbq sauce delivered a spicy kick which I didn't anticipate and overpowered the bison. I loved all the fresh ingredients that were thoughtfully put together from Alberta raised bison, mayonnaise, aged cheddar, sweet and spicy bacon, onion rings, pickles, on sesame seed bun. Stopped in for a late lunch while vacationing nearby. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in. Staff is welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive. Street parking only. We ordered the bison burger with poutine, and a chicken club with parmesan truffle fries. The food was delicious! It took about 45 minutes for our food, but a table of about 10 people ordered just before us, so we were understanding about the wait. The inside was clean. We loved our experience at Tavern 1883. We got a burger and an order of the poutine to split, which was more than enough for the two of us. The poutine was lovely, flavorful and a great portion. We had a great time and meal at Tavern 1883. We planned to stop just for drinks before dinner, but then our server, Zoe, suggested a few apps. The butter chicken fries are among the best things I've ever eaten. The burnt ends, maple sriracha chicken wings and Montreal smoked meat and truffle oil poutine were also quite delicious. What a great place! We sat outside for dinner and it was warm and nicely secluded from the street. Our waitress was so kind. The chicken tacos were delicious and rather spicy. This was my first time eating in Canmore and came here based on other reviews. Sat outside on the patio and ordered a beer and the Canadian Burger. The food was delicious, however the service ended once I got my meal. I was glad I got a beer and a water because no one came back after food was served. It then took forever to get the check to finally leave. The table next to us had the wrong order brought to them twice before finally getting it right the third time. It was very busy, but the patio service definitely lacked. Luckily the food was very good. read more

A perfect place to enjoy the amazing weather and great food. Adorable outdoor area with a lot of seating would be great for a big group. Music was good, servers were friendly, and they have a discount (that we missed by 20") everyday from 2-4, so I think we'll go back. We came here early evening on a Sunday and the place was pretty packed! You couldn't tell from the outside parking area though. Upon entry we were greeted almost immediately. When we arrived there weren't any available tables so we were seated at the bar but did request a table spot upon availability. That saying, it didn't take long for some table spots to open up and within 5 mins of arriving we were seated at a table. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I noticed that they have some great deals and events throughout the week including 40% off the entire menu during happy hour. Unfortunately we had just missed this. We ordered "the platter". Our waitress warned us that it was massive and she sure was not kidding! For $60 you get 1lb of wings, 1 rack of ribs, 3 slabs of brisket (although it looked more like prime rib?) fries, fried pickles, and brussels sprouts with arugula. There were only 2 of us but this was enough to easily feed 3 maybe 4 people depending how hungry you are. We ended up taking 1/3 of it home. I did notice by looking around though that the portion sizes are pretty large and most people did not finish their plates. The burgers also looked to be quite popular as every other person seemed to have ordered it. Back to the food, this was one of the BEST meals that we had in Canmore. The flavour of everything was spectacular. The meat was extremely tender and sliced liked butter. We went with the truffle honey aioli and it paired so well with everything. I could not get enough of it. My recommendation is to eat as much as you can at the restaurant as it doesn't hold up well when reheated. My only feedback is that it would've been nice if they put the fries off to the side or in a separate bowl instead of under the ribs and salad. Due to this the fries weren't crispy which kind of sucked. There is an outdoor patio with heaters and lights. There is also a fire pit out there. The restaurant definitely had a tavern feel. I will definitely make this a regular stop when I visit Canmore. read more

The bartender was great, and super attentive. Prices for drinks were reasonable and there was a good selection of local beer. For the food, I ordered a bison burger with poutine. While the poutine was good, the bison burger wasn't great. It didn't have a ton of flavor and was pretty dry. I wasn't super impressed with the bun either.
