Located inside Georgetown Inn, this pub had a "Miners' Pub" sign, but what's in a name? We had some great authentic British classics here. * Fish n' chips * Stuffed Yorkshire pudding with roast beef, mashed potatoes, and vegetables * Poutine (okay, this is not British) * British sticky toffee pudding The portions were huge! Empty around 4pm on a weekday, friendy and fast service, food was just ok, priced average. We decided to keep it simple and eat at the pub conveniently located in our hotel. Our server Petra was very nice and accomodating, answering all our questions, and opened the windows near our table for a nice breeze. The service was great! Our beer and food came out quickly. We both ordered draft beer: Fernies hazy IPA and Grizzly Paw Raspberry Ale, where we liked both. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie and it was "ok" in my opinion. I did not notice a blend of hard cheeses, rather a butter flavor and the ground meat was meh. The flavor overall wasn't horrible but wouldn't seek it out. My salad that came with it had brown edges and looked old, the avocado dressing was tasty though. My guy had the fish and chips, which was good however we might be spoiled since we live on the coast and our fish and chips spot back home is way better. In general we would not go out of our way to eat at this place, but could be because most of the food is heavy and in general not our style. Eventhough I love a great Shepherd's pie! *Late review* We came here at the ending of last year. We had a long flight and slept most of the day and found this place because they're open late (Most days until midnight, some nights until 2AM). This restaurant is located in the Georgetown Inn. The GPS took us to a small parking area that's off to the side of the inn itself. The outside area was pretty dark so there could have been more light for safety precautions. There are quite a bit of tables on the inside and we got seated fairly (party of 6) quickly by a young girl. Their menu is pretty lengthy so it would be good to look online on their website prior to arriving to be more prepared to order. We ordered the poutine and onion rings as appetizers. The onion rings were in your usual batter and the poutine had cheese curds, gravy, green onions and both were served with ketchup. We were excited to be back in Canada again and eat poutine but it wasn't anything special and the cheese curds weren't as soft/melty as we hoped for. Kind of mid. For our main courses we ordered the breaded cod, chicken pot pie, Guinness pot pie and kids grilled cheese. The cod was actually really good but the size for the price wasn't really that worth it ($18/1 piece) and the coleslaw was not what we were used to, it just tasted like pickled cabbage. The chicken and Guinness pot pies were the highlight of the night for sure - the tops were sooo flaky and buttery, and the filling was very hearty and flavorful. The side mashed potato was bland and had no flavor. The side vegetables were good but pretty basic. Kids grilled cheese was very disappointing - just a slice of cheese stuffed in the middle and thrown on the stove for a quick minute. It didn't even come out melty or warm. The child with us had to finish the appetizers to get full. The service was pretty good (4/5) because we got checked up on frequently and our waitress answered all of the questions we had about the food/menu. But when we were paying for our bill, they took a long time to give our card back which was a little concerning but it was all okay in the end. Overall this place was a 3/5 to us. read more

Went on a Friday night for dinner and it was bright and very quiet at the restaurant. A few other folks came in but the vibe was not what a local pub should be. It has potential but needed better ambiance and music. Staff was pretty good. When it comes to food, we got the famous nachos and we basically ate plain chips out of a bag for $18. The French onion soup smelled pretty bad and tasted the same way it smelled. Lastly we got the wings with bbq and they were average but the best of the three we had. Great atmosphere. This is a very cute British pub. The interior makes you feel as though you were in England. However, the prices are quite ridiculous. We did not order dinner, but we got dessert. Both my husband and I got a sticky toffee pudding, and the slices were very tiny. For $12, we literally got a bite of sticky toffee pudding with a side of whipped cream. If you're paying that much for sticky toffee pudding, at least they could give you a scoop of ice cream. Let's just say Canmore is getting to be very expensive. It looked really rustic and nice inside so I would like to try it again when we can dine inside. Beer selection though was poor. I expected a lot more local beer considering where we were located at. I ordered the fish and chips my husband ordered the chicken sandwich. So the fish was good. It was really tender but the batter was slightly overdone. The side of fries was good. Ordered 4 salads to go. 2 Caesars , a Georgetown and a Strawberry Fields. First the croutons were made of some weird left over bread and the were nowhere near crunchy. I. The Caesar salads they must have grabbed every old rusty piece of lettuce and tossed it in and what wasn't rusty, was wilting. There was not anywhere near enough dressing for one salad let alone two. The "Cajun chicken" that we paid as an add on the the Caesar was dry and over cooked. The 'chef' probably just sliced it and slapped it on the flat-top. Arrived and was told to "seat yourself" and after 10 minutes had to go tell an employee where we were seated. 5 minutes later we got water. Finally our server came and we placed our orders. Food finally 30-35 minutes later when clearly people who sat after us got their food before us. The server (tall blonde hair guy) walked by several times after clearing our table and didn't even bother to give us our check so we had to get up and ask. Asked one of the girls (long with dark hair) how much comes with the bruschetta. She said half of a baguette. I was given four half pieces of bread. Lol. Maybe baguettes are smaller in Canada? My dad ordered a half rack of ribs. The server comes out and says "I accidentally pushed the wrong button and got you a full" and says "I can either take half of them away or you can have them/we can box them up for you." Okay so we took the full thinking it was going to be the price of the half because of the servers "mistake" come to find out on the bill we were charged for the full. Maybe make the customer aware that we would be charged for your mistake I've worked in restaurants all my life and if it's a mistake you (the server) pay for it. Why even bring out the extra rack of ribs if they aren't going to be free for a customer or be more clear. Overall, the food was okay but very overpriced for what it is. And the sign on the outside isn't clearly marked "Miner's Lamp Pub" from what you can see on the street. It will say "restaurant and pub" under "Georgetown Inn." My girlfriend and I got takeout from The Miner's Lamp (Georgetown Pub) while we were staying next door at the Grande Rockies. It was pouring rain one day and I just wanted to run somewhere close by to grab food while she stayed warm and dry in the hotel room haha. It was a great choice to try this place out. We had the Calamari, Onion Rings, Fish and Chips, and Chicken Tikka Masala. All of it was quite delicious but the Calamari and Fish and Chips were the best of the dishes. I did have to wait for quite a while after they said that the food would be ready but that's not a huge issue since the food was tasty. I will def be coming back and trying some more dishes on the menu here. read more

I enjoy the Georgetown Inn because of the rustic restaurant atmosphere and great home cooked food. The shepherds pie is very good. Haven't been there in awhile but like to drop in for a meal once in awhile when I am in Canmore. The prices are reasonable. Service can be a little slow sometimes but it may be due to staffing shortage but the serving personnel have always been pleasant and helpful. I am visiting from the states. I visited this place for breakfast. Went about 9:30am. 1 other couple were there. I had the Miner 222, 2 eggs overeasy,2 bacon and 2 rye toast and breakfast potatoes. The best Yorkshire pudding I've experienced in North America is a short drive from Calgary in picturesque Canmore. This quiet, comfortable restaurant with great views -- and even better food -- in the Georgetown Inn is more than just a pub; it's our go-to getaway lunch spot. The waiter is helpful, but not overbearing, the old fashion chairs are comfortable and I can't overstate this: the stuffed Yorkshire pudding is incredible! I'd comment on their wonderful English desserts, but you'll probably be stuffed after the perfect Yorkshire pudding. Imagine a Tim Horton's honey cruller from the 90s (when they were still freshly made, moist, juicy, and wonderful -- before they became hard premade stale crap). Take away the sweetness, now explode that into a beautiful Yorkshire pudding, stuff it with perfectly thin cut, tender Alberta beef. Smother it all in a beautiful gravy, add perfect Yukon gold mashed potatoes on the side with cooked (but not too soft) veggies on the side and your lunch can't get any better. read more
