Cute little cafe bistro! We walked in around 8am on a Sunday and there were 2 other tables sat so we didn't have to wait to be seated. When we left about an hour later almost all the tables were seated. We enjoyed our Eggs Benny and Avocado Toast. I love that the avocado toast had a fresh arugula salad on top. And they did not skimp on Avocado. I swear it seemed like a whole avocado. Loved it! They also have a lunch and dinner service so I expect we will be back again! read more

Best food I've had in my lifetime! Excellent chef!!Best breakfast burrito ever! French toast was a bountiful blend of berries and balanced well with cream cheese. As foodies, we appreciated the attention to detail and layers of complex flavors. Short ribs eggs Benedict had large portions of meat and wonderful hollandaise sauce. I had two poached eggs, bacon and the duck fat potatoes. she had the Canadian Benny both were excellent and the potatoes were the best we have ever had , don't forget to ask for the Ketchup & hot sauce. We had a really nice meal at One98eight in Canmore. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You could tell they make everything in-house -- even the ketchup tasted homemade. We tried a few dishes, but the standout was the bibimbap with duck fat -- super crispy and full of flavor. The place has a relaxed vibe and the staff were friendly. I was surprised at the quality of the food since the reviews were so good. We went for breakfast and felt that everything was overcooked- the sausage was dry and chewy, the toast was super hard and crunchy, the hash eggs were crispy and dry It was very disappointing The food was also very overpriced- 28 for a regular 2 egg breakfast? And this is not a fancy restaurant by any means It was also very hot and uncomfortable in there- no ventilation, started to feel sick near the end. the breakfast burrito had entirely too many spices in the eggs it was overpowering, the chai also had too much masala/spices to the point it was very bitter even after 2 sugars. Stopped here for breakfast on our way out of Canmore. Parking available in front of the restaurant. 1 other couple here at 10AM on a Sunday morning. Waitress was kind and friendly. 2 gender-specific bathrooms but they are single person use so could be used by either gender. I got the Lemon Ricotta Pancake. It was okay. Good lemon taste - not too tart. No ricotta taste. Was more like a lemon cake - very sweet, moist, more thick than fluffy. Glad I tried it but I wouldn't get again. Boyfriend got the Canadian Benny and was very happy with his choice. Friend got the Breakfast burrito and was very happy with this. It looked amazing and I would get this next time! I loved the look of the salad it is served with but not the balsamic dressing. Overall perhaps I didn't choose the best item on the menu but everyone else's food looked great! read more

This restaurant was amazing!! The ambiance is understated but the food amazing. We went to a pricy dinner the night before that was supposed to be great and wholeheartedly wish we had found 1988 instead. My husband had the butter chicken and I had the salmon. The salmon was delicious, perfect amount of spice & curry. The potatoes were wonderful soft and crispy. And make sure you leave room for dessert! Yummy! 5 stars. A table of four, there were only two other tables present. No espresso, only drip coffee for breakfast. Ordered our food, once food was ordered, took about 50 minutes for the food to be brought out. We had breakfast here, and it was phenomenal! We both had the breakfast burrito with the duck fat hash. Each and every bite was delicious, and the servings are HUGE. We ate half for breakfast and the other half for dinner. The homemade ketchup is quite a treat--such interesting flavors. We feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to eat here. I'm thinking we'll have to try dinner one night while we're in the area. Service is friendly and efficient. Nice atmosphere. A hidden gem hiding in plain sight in Downtown Canmore! Small unassuming space with tremendous breakfast food. Not one travel guide or book mentioned this spot and we loved it. I had the breakfast burrito, which was stuffed with eggs, cheese, potatoes and a few other yummy foods. Kept me full till dinner. Wife enjoyed her dish of vegetables and eggs. Deducting 1/2 star bc service was VERY slow. All in all, though, highly recommend One98! read more

Stayed right next to this spot on our 10 day vacation to Banff. This was the best food we had the whole time and we ate out a lot in Banff and Canmore, but this place was the one, and it was right next to us in Dead Man's Flats the whole time. The hollandaise sauce was out of this world amazing, I would have put it on my pancakes it was that good. Betty was so accommodating, welcoming, kind and wonderful. We're honestly upset we only discovered it at the end of our vacation. Betty and her husband run this spot, most of the food is made from scratch and if the rest of their food is anything like their breakfast, I'm there. Don't skip out on this spot, the service is so personable and wonderful, even just that aspect of it would keep us coming back. But they really care about their food and the people they're serving, the food is so so good, and there's legitimately nothing better than that.
