Favourite late night hang-out spot in Canmore. Great beer selection, really good food and friendly service keep bringing me back. Todd, one of the evening servers, is old-school cool. He and the excellent Chicago hot wings make Fergus & Bix worth more than one late night Happy Hour visit. The wings are marinaded, fried, dipped then baked - perfect. I'm a little beer snobby, but my spouse says the in-house Wooden Ship beers are good. Great place to watch sports too. Lots of TVs but not too intrusive if you're not interested. Ambiance is warm and relaxed. Happy Hour offers some nice choices, and is twice per day every day as is the norm in this tourist town. We arrived in Canmore late in the evening and found that dining options were quite limited, so we stopped in at Fergus & Brix. Upon arrival, we were provided with a liquor menu but not a full food menu, and were directed to order from the happy hour menu. This created a bit of confusion at first, but we made the best of it. We ordered the Beer Board, which included a selection of sausages, Italian meats, cheeses, and pretzel bread. It was well put together, with good variety and satisfying portions--great for a late-night bite. Overall, while the experience wasn't exceptional, it was a decent stop considering the circumstances. It served its purpose and provided a solid option when not much else was available. That said, the bar itself is pretty decent. Came for HH. They have a decent sized HH menu with reasonable pricing. Got the szechwan tenders, potstickers and steak sandwich. Everything had great flavor. Service was good. I liked the decor and modern design. Wish they had more beer choices on the HH menu though. read more

We came in for dinner while visiting the area. Fortunately we were in early and snagged a great table. The place has a modern updated feel. And there is a large bar area. Our server was Leah and she was great. Super friendly and helpful and took wonderful care of us. My husband ordered the black and blue burger and said it was fantastic. He got mixed greens and fries with it. Everything was super fresh. I ordered the blackened chicken. It was served on a bed of mashed potatoes with asparagus. The blackening season is heavy but I loved it. Chicken was tender and the portion size was large. We would definitely come back. I don't usually gush, but gush I must about our visit here. A group of 5 of us called ahead and made a reservation for 6 PM, as they said they really get busy after that. That's exactly what happened. We were quickly seated, and the delightful and fun Jordyn took our drink orders. There was a good selection of wines, beers, and cocktails. A couple of ladies in our group split a bottle of sparkling wine and the equally delightful Amy, showed up with that offering and told us we were the first table where shed'd opened a bottle of sparlking wine, and she did it perfectly and we all had some fun with that. We got a variety of dishes from their wonderful menu. One in our group got the 9 oz steak special of the night and he said it was perfectly cooked and delicious. Another got the Gumbo and a salad, and said the gumbo was excellent and she ate all she could of the salad and brought the rest home and enjoyed it the next day. It held up well, which cannot be said of all salads. Another in our group got the Savary Island Bowl. It was also a huge bowl of fresh and delicious ingredients, and was big enough for a meal and a lunch. Another in our group got the Negresco Salad, which our server said she'd had for a couple of months straight when she started to work there. It was also a huge helping and a delicious choice. And finally, I got the El Chuco sandwich, a zingy pulled chicken with a great flavor. I wondered about the au jus, but it was a nice addition. Perfect place to stop by after an evening hike! Especially when they have late night happy hour starting at 9:30pm! It's a steal. Lots of asian food items on the happy hour menu. Potstickers are fried - not sure why I was expecting steamed, but they were delicious. Wings were pretty good. Also ordered a salad that balanced out our appetizers and was pretty fresh and filling. Love the patio, great place to people watch while you eat. Around dinner time this place is packed and therefore service suffers. But expected. Food was 10/10. I tried the Big Easy chicken burger and smoked meat sandwich. Both were really good, too much mustard seed on the smoked meat but easy to scrape off some of it. Sides were all good but broccoli was too spicy and garlic chili edamame gave me a touch of a gut ache. Overall would recommend this as a good spot to eat. read more

The Big Easy Chicken sandwich was a classic and pretty good, but mashed potatoes were too much heavy on the sour cream. The edamame and chicken sandwich were both delicious. Servers were kind, but service was incredibly slow and they seemed too busy. We waited at least 30-40 minutes for our food. People were seated at patio. We asked. They said that they were closing the patio, but we were welcome to sit anywhere in the restaurant. Since they were leaving open the outdoor area up to the rails, we asked about the empty table there. No problem. Received menus. After that, at least three servers, including the one who seated us, walked straight past us over and over without a hesitation. Served the two gentlemen who came in after us. Never brought us water, took a drink order, spoke to us. Happy hour came and went. After a half an hour, we just left. Can't tell you anything about the service, food, or drinks because we had none of those things. Bummer. Visited on a Sunday for brunch. Very quiet and I appreciated it so much! It's nice that I could have a conversation without yelling. Ordered the avocado toast without cheese and egg, along with a mimosa which the options were grapefruit or orange juice. Mimosa was good. As for the avocado toast, it was not the best as the avocado was chopped instead of smashed and spread (my personal preference) So when I ate it things fell off and I had to do the work myself. LOVED the atmosphere and the food. Went here with a group of 8 for dinner after a hike in the cold weather and rain. The waitstaff was more than willing to accommodate our larger party and we were promptly served. Everyone was really nice and welcoming. On the whole, our party liked the food, which arrived quickly for a party of 8. I LOVED the wonton soup- it warmed me up after our hike and was unexpectedly SO delicious. The pork and shrimp dumplings in there were so tasty and the veggies made everything blend well. The Father's Office Burger was really delicious and the onions on it were amazing. The edamame with chili sauce and garlic was also yummy. The members of our party who got steak said it was just average and bland. The basilico linguine pasta dish my friend got was tasty, but she had a few noodle clumps that were overcooked, so she couldn't eat half of the dish and was rather unhappy. I would go back for the soup or a burger in a heartbeat, and I would recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area. read more

A solid 4 star place. We both had salads on our first visit. Both were mostly fresh with ample quantity. Our server, from Australia was very good. She was just right and didn't over serve for a tip. We visited a second time and sat at the bar. Tall slender dark haired guy tender was very good as well. Very patient as we sampled many beers. On our trip to Canmore, we visited Fergus and Bix for dinner. The atmosphere is casual and the space is modern, welcoming and comfortable. Our group of 4 were seated in a booth and our server was friendly and attentive. They have daily specials as well as a large selection of beer. For food, we shared the lettuce wraps and mussels. Very flavourful and easy to share. My entree was the Hunter steak which comes with an 8oz sirloin, topped with mushrooms and comes with veggies. The other entrees at our table were the fish and chips and pizza. The fish and chips were delicious but the pizza not so much. Overall a good experience at Fergus and Bix. After spending the day in Banff we wanted to head back to Canmore (where we were staying) Walking down main street we came across this place. As luck would have it , it was happy hour. I want a gin and tonic and was told that was not on the happy hour menu. I was ok with that. My husband ordered one of their beers ( they are also a brewery). They never told us it was also not on happy hour. As apps we ordered their ginger pork pot sticker, which were on happy hour and very good. We each ordered the house hamburger with 2 sides. The burgers were just about the driest we have ever had. The salad dressing was on the bottom of the bowl and you could hardly get it mixed into the salad. When the bill came they then old my husband his beer was not on the happy hour. We leave tomorrow to go back to Washington state so I can't say I would go back. But if I were to return I would not go back here. read more
