We ate dinner here after arriving in Banff. The restaurant is part of the Canoe Lodge hotel complex but they are open to non-residents. The restaurant has a welcome area next to a large bar (some people were eating here) and then two further dining rooms and an outdoor terrace area too. Although the restaurant was extremely busy, the staff were very good at accommodating us and other diners. We had the focaccia to start, followed by the green bean tempura (served with fries, salsa and ketchup) and tuna poke bowl. The focaccia was huge, but very light, and came with dipping oil. Both mains were very good - fresh ingredients and clearly freshly prepared. We accompany them with some alcohol free lager, and the waitress kept us topped up with water throughout the meal. (Service was generally very good.) My partner had the baked cheesecake for dessert, which also went down well. With tip, the meal came to just over CN$100, which we thought was pretty good for what we had. We would happily recommend. read more

My friend ordered the West Coast Cobb, with candied salmon, cheese, egg, bacon, avocado, tomato, corn, cucumber, and herb citrus ranch. It was a substantial salad with plenty of toppings and a nice mix of sweet, savory, creamy, and fresh flavors. Stopped by on our way out of Banff as our last breakfast. This is part of a hotel and we were lucky to find parking quickly but it might be a tricky situation if you're bringing your car. Our server was super friendly and helpful. I ordered the classic breakfast with my eggs over medium and bacon extra crispy and got exactly what I ordered. I also got a cold brew with some hazelnut flavoring in it. My eggs were perfectly cooked the way I asked. Bacon was crispy like I wanted. Potatoes were good and salted well. The ends were crispy too. Sudden Sally Banff, AB Canada Amtrak Vacations representative, Kevin Guadagnoli, who was working through Railbookers, created my itinerary that had me staying at the Canoe and Suites for two days in Banff, following similar stops in Vancouver and Jasper. The hotel in Banff was an excellent choice. I had a light dinner at Sudden Sally, which is adjacent to the Canoe, while waiting for a next-day trip into the lakes and waterfalls in and around Banff. Amy was helpful and courteous, taking my order for pork belly sliders (tomato jam, crispy onions, A1 Sauce, Jack Cheese, $24). With a glass of Village Cider ($12) and a double of Woodford Reserve ($24) and an iceberg wedge ($9), the total was well in keeping with local prices (and we're informed tips are shared with the kitchen staff). The servings were tasty, nicely proportioned, and there was little left of the meal when I finished, feeling well-fed. I found the restaurant airy, clean, and comfortable. Conversations were inside-voice level, allowing for easy listening while taking in the beautiful surroundings. This restaurant is located in the Canoes Hotel building. It is super busy on weekends in the high season. We went mid August at around 8:30 am. We were seated quickly as there were only two of us, but there was a line when we left. Our server was friendly. I ordered decaf latte coffee, which was delicious. Slight issue with the sugar on the table as it was in a container; the sugar was stuck and wouldn't come out. I ended up unscrewing the container, but maybe packets are easier ‍. The food was quite excellent. We had the fried oatmeal, which was inventive and a nice twist on traditional oatmeal. We also had the ham omelet. It was fluffy, but they could have put a little more ham in it. Potatoes were crispy and toast was already buttered, which I love. We were tempted to get a cinnamon roll from the pastry selection, but asked for it to be heated up. Our server came out to let us know that their oven wasn't working so she could not warm it up. We took it as a sign and told her that we would skip the roll. I did not think it would be as good later on. One of the baristas brought it over to our table anyway (miscommunication). We explained to the server that we didn't want it because it couldn't be warmed up. She said she would box it for us. So we had to re-explain that we don't want it boxed up, we didn't want it at all. It appeared she was very busy and had a lot going on. She graciously removed it from our table after she understood. It wasn't a big deal to us, but after that she shied away from our table and didn't make eye contact. You can see the mountains from the restaurant, nice interior, and clean bathroom. Enjoyed a lovely evening here for a private supper club event while in town for a conference.in October 2025. The space itself is really beautifully decorated, clean and modern. We were sat in a separate room from the restaurant which was cozy. The staff were super lovely and attentive with our party. We dined on a set menu of three dishes, paired with three cocktails. The appetizer of coconut cashew prawn was my fave course. The dish paired well with the first cocktail, called a whiskey junglebird which contained whiskey, pineapple, Campari and passion fruit and lemon. The main was a chicken skewer with tamarind, plums and roasted plantain. It was paired with the second cocktail, called an East Wind Rickey, which was a refreshing mix of gin, pisco, grapefruit, ginger honey and tonic water. The honey stands on top of the drink added an interesting and interactive element. The dessert, a key lime tart, was delicious but I felt the last cocktail, their clarified pina colada, should have been more sour/bitter vs sweet to cut through the sweetness of the final dish. Stayed at the sister hotel next door and had the pleasure of dining here for both breakfast and dinner, and I'm glad that I did! All of the dishes were amazing and made with thoughtfulness, and premium ingredients and executed well. I was particularly impressed with the beef stroganoff. The beef was really tender and went so well with the stroganoff sauce. From the breakfast items, their omelette and potatoes was a highlight for me. I couldn't stop eating their crispy breakfast potatoes and the omelette was a good mix between fresh and tasty. Came here on the way home from a ski trip leaving banff. Finding parking there is nearly impossible. Not sure if I missed a lot but there's only a small lot on the side. We parked in the back so the walk to the front was a bit long in the cold. The restaurant itself was very nice and spacious. Our server was also nice and funny. He added to the positive experience we had there. We got an omelette and pancakes for sharing and they were both very tasty. I've never had pancakes like this so it was a nice new flavor to experience. We got matcha lattes for some caffeine. I make matcha at home regularly so I had something to compare to. The matcha flavor is not very strong but it tastes good if you're not a matcha critic lol. It's pretty sweet so the maple syrup kind of overpowers the matcha. It was a tasty drink though. Sudden Sally is connected to the lobby of Hotel Canoe and Suites, our hotel in Banff. We decided to try it one day for breakfast. The inside is modern, with a chic gas fireplace at the centre of the restaurant. I ordered the Breakfast Croissant with a sausage patty and potatoes. The croissant was buttery and flaky, and I really enjoyed the potatoes which were smashed with crispy bits. The coffee was just ok - it could have been stronger. Our waiter, Sam, was very kind and friendly. He gave us recommendations for hikes around Banff, and even recognized/greeted us the next day as we passed by through the lobby. The omelet and croissant were delicious. Breakfast came out very quickly, and the prices were not outrageous. Our waitress was very polite and attentive. The restaurant is well-lit and also had a cozy vibe with snake plants and music from Nick Drake softly playing in the background. Our issue was that when we walked up to reception, though there were already other diners seated, reception didn't acknowledge us. Reception (all 4 staff) appeared to be busy working through some issue on their kiosk screen, yet we weren't greeted at all. We stood there awkwardly and when one of the staff members finished, he greeted us curtly, as if we were presenting as an inconvenience to his morning. This put a sour taste in our mouth, and it's a shame because if it weren't for this gentleman's attitude, we would have returned multiple times since we stayed 5 nights at the neighboring hotel. For what it's worth, the staff thanked us as we left. We also docked a star from the rating because inconsistent menus and service. When we sat down, we were confused because we were given menus that looked identical yet were inconsistent. To avoid confusion, management should probably update their menus or at the very least ensure correct menus are presented. We also heard a different waitress ask her table if they had any allergies, yet we were never asked that question. Though Sudden Sally appears to have received above average reviews from other diners, we weren't happy with our experience. read more
