I unfortunately realized this restaurant was right at our hotel on the last day of our stay. I had my regular urge for eggs benedict, and needed to needed to scratch that hollandaise itch. I cant stress enough- the hollandaise was amazing. I suggest ordering extra to dip the amazing smashed potatoes in (crispy + flavorful! No starchiness here) I also had a breakfast mule- I had been having them at various locations all week- and this one was the best and surely surpassed the rest I had enjoyed at the various breweries around town. My wife and I went here for dinner and the experience was very disappointing. The artisan bread appetizer was not good. The bread was very plain, dry, and there was nothing special about it. My ribeye was overcooked and I had to send it back. I also did not like the mashed potatoes that came with it and didn't eat them, they were very oily (almost like they had olive oil in them). My wife got the vegan loaf which was extremely dry and she didn't like any part of the dish. She also had to send it back. The wait staff did apologize and refunded the cost of my wife's meal, which did make the situation feel a little better. Everything was just ok. We went for breakfast on a recommendation from some family members that had visited before. The restaurant was very spacious and clean. Had a nice ambience with plenty of seating inside and outside. However we found it was a little chilly inside the restaurant, especially near the windows where we were seated. The staff was friendly, but we found that service was a little slow even though it was not busy at the time of our visit. We appreciated the variety of breakfast items. It was definitely catered to international visitors. However, the food itself tasted just average. We ordered the Eggs Benedict with avocado and tomato, pancakes, French toast, and the omurice. The eggs Benedict came out cold, the omurice needed some additional ingredients for flavoring, and the pancakes and French toast came out dry. They charged us extra for a little tablespoon of extra maple syrup. The only tasty item was the smashed potatoes. Overall, would not recommend this place. Bankhead Restaurant and Lounge offers a versatile environment with its fusion cuisine, whether it be a romantic or family dinner. It's a great spot if you're looking for a mix of international and Western flavors. Reservations can be made directly from their homepage via TouchBistro. There are about 10 spots available in the private parking lot. While it was too cold to enjoy the patio during our visit, outdoor dining is available in warmer weather, and the mountain views from the restaurant are stunning. FOOD: 1. Firecracker Calamari (3/5) - Crispy calamari with sautéed peppers, soy, and sesame. Unfortunately, this appetizer had more side ingredients than actual calamari. It's shareable between 3-4 people, but I wouldn't order it again. 2. Canmore Pasta Bison Ravioli (3/5) - Served with a creamy au jus sauce, sautéed mushrooms, and parmesan. I didn't try this one personally, but those who did said it was just "OK." It comes with one slice of garlic toast. 3. Chicken Nirvana (4/5) - A coconut-based gravy with ginger, green chili, curry leaves, basmati rice, and Kerala parotta. The curry was a bit watery for my taste, and I wished the spices were more pronounced. That said, the parotta was nicely crisp -- always a win. 4. Alberta Beef Short Ribs (3/5) - Served with vegetables and gravy. I had a few bites and liked it, but something felt like it was missing -- I couldn't quite put my finger on what. 5. Atlantic Salmon (5/5) - Paired with a tarragon leek lemon emulsion and vegetables. I rarely order salmon at non-Japanese restaurants, but this was an exception. The salmon was perfectly cooked -- not dry at all -- and the emulsion brought everything together beautifully. The service was OK. The server was pleasant, and our drinks never touched the bottom. However, we had an early dinner time, and they were out of two items on the menu. Would I come back? Maybe. I'll explore other places before coming back. read more

The Bankhead provided a varied menu with something for everyone. While we were sad they were out of the pork chop, we opted for a steak, the salmon and our teenage son enjoyed the Caesar salad. The salmon was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. The service was quick, we were lucky that it was quiet when we arrived, with most tables being full when we left. The food was delicious and we were so hungry I didn't get any pics. Food presentation was also good. Reasonably priced for the area, however the wine felt on the expensive side. read more

My salmon was phenomenal. Some of the best I've ever had and I am a "eat salmon out almost all the time" type of gal. Really quite special.

My husband found this restaurant on Google before we made our way to Banff. They were open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it looked like they just opened up recently when we came in. We ordered spicy parmesan fries, Alberta Beef Short Ribs and a create your own pasta dish (penne and shrimp Cacio e pepe sauce). The fries had such a nice kick to it and was perfectly crispy - delicious! My husband's short ribs was just ok, the meat wasn't tender or soft and lacked a little flavor to the overall dish. My pasta was just okay, I personally thought it also lacked flavor and was missing something I can't quite pinpoint. Also, for an extra $10 I only got 4 shrimps which was a rip off. Decided to stop in here and try it out. Decor is simple, clean , light and airy. Staff are very prompt and knowledgeable. We ordered salmon eggs Benedict one with kale salad the other with wedged potatoes. They have a nicely stocked bar. Quite casual and relaxed here. The restaurant is attached to the Northwinds Hotel by Basecamp. They have an outside patio where you can dine also. It was really comfortable because it was not packed with tourists and subject to lineups. They make their own smoked salmon and many of their items are homemade. The smoked salmon is delicious. My friends and I spent a week in Canmore and we found this place on our last night. We all agreed that it was one of the best meals we ate all week. I ordered the bison ravioli and added some grilled chicken. It was delicious and a nice portion size-about 15-20 ravioli. I alsoprder3d a classic old fashioned which was well made. My friends ordered steaks, butter chicken and red Curry chicken. There were no leftovers to bring home! Our server was friendly and very accommodating to our food and drink requests and we got 5 separate checks with no hassle. We also liked the layout that provided some privacy between tables. Our 'room' had two tables but we were the only ones seated there. I wish we found thisplace sooner. We would have definitely gone back. read more

Hi. We are on holiday from California, traveling with our service dog, and we were welcomed into this fine dining establishment. We were promptly greeted and sat without question with our service dog, given menus and water. We ordered waffles and smoked brisket egg Benedict. The waffles were topped with a berry compote, which was out of this world, and wipped cream and fresh fruit. Then, with a little drizzle of maple syrup to top it all off. Mmmmmm. Next up, the smoked brisket eggs Benedict. This meal was prepared with love. This was hands-down the best eggs Benedict we have ever had. It was the most perfect poached egg I have ever seen and tasted. Which, then cuts into a smoke flavored, tender slice of seasoned brisket that melts in your mouth, tantalizing your senses finishing off with a nice soft sourdough muffin, all this paired with a creamy hollandaise sauce. read more

We went twice this week to Bankhead. Once for dinner and once for breakfast. Lots of easy parking is a huge plus. The place was nearly empty both times. Dinner was the night of the Stanley Cup finals game 7 so understandable, not sure why so empty for breakfast. No way they stay in business like this. The menu is very international and lots of unique touches. The sandwiches are served on black buns. The fish burger was fresh and delicious. The service was very prompt and attentive. For breakfast, tons of international options - we were not very adventurous but were tempted. The pancakes are thick and about 5-6" across. The bacon was perfect. My omelette was uncooked in the middle but I know lots of people rather have that than browned eggs. Only white toast available ... the star of the meal are the smashed new potatoes. This is a great new addition to the Canmore dining scene. If you're from Canmore, you know it's located at the former site of Chez Francois, next to the Days Inn Hotel. Although it's been completely remodeled, so it's light and bright and of course has a fabulous view of the Rundle. Mountain range. They only recently opened, so I found it quite by accident! We stopped in for breakfast late one morning and were greeted by a charming waitress who explained their new family style concept to us. We had the pancakes which were beautifully presented and were quite delicious. We returned for dinner a few days later and enjoyed the butter chicken, Alberta beef short rib and shared a simple but delicious mixed green salad. We finished off with a yummy piece of Triple Berry Cheesecake. For the moment, the restaurant is lovely, peaceful and quiet. I'm sure that will change once the rest of the locals (and the visitors) find this place. We understand that the chef is formerly from The Eden restaurant in Banff which I'm sure explains the delicious food and beautiful presentation. We can't say enough about what a great meal we had at The Bankhead. We came for lunch and 3 of us ended up having breakfast, after hearing the recommendations of staff. Butter chicken, french toast & short rib eggs benny, were all excellent. I would particularly recommend trying their crispy potatoes, no matter what you order. Absolutely delicious. Staff were right on with their suggestions, friendly and welcoming. It's a little sparse still on wall decor but the tables are nicely spaced and the chairs are padded wooden chairs that allow for a comfortable visit. Please do go and support this new restaurant in the old Chez Francois venue. We will definitely be back. read more
