May 12, 2026. Everything about the Maple leaf was outstanding! My wife enjoyed a nice sparkling Prosecco to kick off the evening with our nice-sized Prince Edward Island oysters. We then shared a Waldorf salad, which was refreshing and nice. Then we both selected red wine varietals grown in Canada. I had a Cabernet/Merlot blend which was super great. Would've never guessed it was from Canada. Next, My wife enjoyed a Pinot Noir that was light and complimented our entrée perfectly. Our entrée was the fillet and prawns served over a garlic mashed potato. This is an absolutely extraordinary dish. We shared it and it was just enough for two people. It is a full meal for one person. The filet temperature preparation was perfect. The prawns were extraordinary, and the garlic mashed potato made you curl your toes! Then we closed the evening with the melted chocolate soufflé, which was divine. Here's the one thing that they missed and to me it's an important miss. They use an automated system for taking reservations. And it kept asking for my name to which I said "Chris" and the automated system kept asking me what's your name!? So it asked hey fourth time and in my frustration I got playful and I said "Big Daddy." And it happily received my name and took my reservation. And then asked if there was any special occasion and I said yes my wife and I are celebrating our anniversary. I get that it may not seem normal to say "Big Daddy party for two". So I'll kind of let that pass because neither front door or upstairs Host was willing to ask. But what I don't like that was missed was our anniversary wasn't acknowledged. I was a server for years, and every host gave the server some type of chit or note to let them know if there is a special occasion. We specifically selected a higher end restaurant for anniversary. So somewhere in there, even if you weren't brave enough to say "Big Daddy for two." Someone still should've checked if you were celebrating any special occasion to which we were. Our anniversary. the maple leaf has a cozy ambiance and attentive service that made for a pleasant dining experience. unfortunately, the food was a bit hit or miss the standout was definitely the slow braised bison short rib. it was incredibly tender, fell right off the bone, and was beautifully plated. the bison burger came in second and the patty had a wonderful smoky char the bison bolognese, however, left much to be desired. both the pasta and meat were on the drier side, and the flavors fell flat. the biggest disappointment was the maple glazed salmon and prawns. the glaze was more like a thick overly sweet syrup and the salmon and shrimp themselves were fairly bland with a slightly fishy flavor my experience is inconsistent with the other reviews, but personally id just recommend the bison short rib and skip the others read more

We have eaten at this restaurant twice in the last three years. We were there in June and we ended up sitting in the same area, same seats as three years ago. It really is one of the nicest restaurants in Banff located downtown near all the shops. There's parking at the Nestor's market. You now have to pay, but it's a quick walk through the alleyway to get to The Maple Leaf restaurant. We recommend this restaurant highly for its service and food and ambience. Even the background music was magnificent. All of our meals were very tasty. Perfectly served with just the right amount on our plate. I had the pasta which was delicious. We made reservations in advance which I would recommend as it was quite busy. We were seated upstairs immediately upon arriving. The window tables are the place to be. We didn't get one of those but still a nice area. I chose the salmon and shrimp for my meal. It came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The salmon was cooked with a nice sear. For some reason my shrimp were a bit smaller than those on my husband's surf and turf. Overall, my meal was quite good. Husband had the filet and it wasn't quite as tender as he was hoping. i ordered the pasta and noodles off of the childrens menu, because i am one. it was super good, but it came with almost no parmasean cheese, which my brother recived an ubundance of it. when i went to order more and after asking 2 different ladies and waiting 15 minutes, i had it. finally my meal was complete. i am not sure wat ambience is but this resturant was going through a shortage of it. regardless, a greate eat, would reccomend. read more

Had a wonderful xmas brunch! The atmosphere was very calm and cozy. Our waitress was nice and helped us with planning our day. Food was delicious! As someone who likes a big breakfast, the banana toffee French toast was not enough for a meal and I had to eat off my partner's plate. I did enjoy the banana chips on it as it gave more crunch to the meal. They have a casual seating area on the main floor and more upstairs on the 2nd floor. I didn't notice until my friend pointed it out but all of the Asian people in the restaurant were seated in the same little corner. We sat down, my friend pointed it out, and I kept thinking it was a coincidence but then several white parties were sat upstairs into the nice dining area and the next Asian group that came in were put into our row. I kept watching them in the corner and the waiters would avoid looking at the group in the corner trying to order. Like I think I saw 5 waiters pass by within 10 minutes going to the party room and completely breeze by the Asian family in the corner when I know they saw them in their peripheral. I don't think it's a coincidence because we were also put with the only Asian waiter working the floor. She was great! Horrible coincidence if it is.... The food maple salmon was super good! Came here for dinner on a reservation. We were seated on the 2nd floor with a nice view of the town. Service overall is very good. They offered good recommendations, which we mainly relied on. Overall the food was fantastic and it was a terrific experience for a relaxing vacation dinner with family. I got to try two different drinks. I don't recall the Spicy Lychee Margarita ($18) having a kick, but the lychee flavoring was a nice blend with the margarita. And because we're in O Canada... they of course made their Old Fashioned ($18) maple flavored. Still a good drink with the maple sweetness to it. For appetizers, we ordered the Cast Iron Crab Gratin Dip ($28) which is made of Atlantic Crab, artichoke, and mozzarella. This was soo good that we ended up ordering extra pita, which was a $1 extra. Well worth it. We also got the Wine Country Salad ($18) because you always need a green dish. For entrees, we got the Signature Maple Salmon & Prawns ($49). Only two pieces of prawn as you can see in the photo (sad), but it also comes with mashed potato and seasonal vegetables, which happens to be asparagus when we went. They use a maple dijon glaze, which makes a nice gravy with the mashed potato. If you're willing to splurge, I'd recommend getting the 18oz Alberta Cowboy Steak ($85) for the table. This also comes with mashed potato and seasonal vegetables (asparagus during my visit). That "Cowboy Butter" they put on top enhances the flavoring. After our hike at Lake Louise/Moraine Lake, we were famished and were looking for something to eat. We landed here and didn't have any reservations. However, the hostess was able to fit us in right away and we sat upstairs. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a mountain lodge feel to it. For the most part, the food here was pretty good, though the pork chop I ordered was overcooked and dry. When it was put in front of me, I tried to cut in to it and felt how tough it was. After taking a bite, it was confirmed that the pork chop was overcooked. I then asked the server how they cook their pork chops here and she said medium. I then let her know that it was overcooked and she promptly took it back and got a new one made for me. The food does take a while and it would have been nice if they provided bread or something to munch on while waiting. The second time around, the pork chop was cooked correctly. Our server was fantastic and she kept on checking in on us and her other tables. For a place of this caliber, I was disappointed that they messed up my pork chop. But there's a first time for everything. After all this, I still recommend coming here. I would make reservations though. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were seated fairly quickly. They had a good brunch and lunch menu. The indoor section wasn't too packed, but mostly people sat outside. I've ordered the steak breakfast with extra bacon, and a mimosa. It took us awhile to get ahold of the waiters, but after a while I was able to flagged someone down. We had an hour to grab food and eat due to our tour guides schedule. After getting our orders in, and food coming out, it took almost 40 minutes of our hour, so we had to rush a bit. The food came out great. Medium rare steak came out perfectly and tender. Toasts were well buttered and crispy and excellent potatoes. My partner ordered the bison burger and it came out perfectly. I had high hopes for this place, given the reviews and pics I saw. On the first night, I tried to go at 9:30pm, but when I got there they said they closed at 9pm already. So I made the effort to be there by 8:40pm the next night. Still they made it like a huge deal to ask upstairs if it was still ok to seat me. After I got seated, I just felt like I was delaying the staff from leaving. I wished they had made me feel more welcomed and not inconveniencing them. The waiter even laughed at how fast I ate. I just didn't want to hold them up leaving. I had a house salad, which the greens, apples weren't crisp oddly. And I ordered the maple glazed salmon w prawns for my main course. The mashed potatoes, asparagus, and salmon were good, but the prawns had no flavor. I think they should use shell-on shrimp instead to retain the flavor. The shrimp just tasted boiled and from the freezer. I wanted the maple creme brûlée for dessert, but it just didn't feel right to stay later. I was done by 9:20pm, tipped 20% still, and rushed out of there (even though there were still a lot of guests upstairs and at the bar). For a high-end rest't, I think they should be more clear to customers that they can be seated before 9pm, and not feel rushed to eat. We were seated on the 2nd floor with beautiful views of downtown Banff below. We started with a southwest corn soup to share, which was rich and flavorful. I got the Alberta bison tenderloin, medium rare. It was rich and juicy, though it was hard to tell the difference in taste from beef. My dad got the Brome Lake half duck, which had a slightly crispy skin and was covered in a sweet and herbal sauce. My mom got the seafood linguine, which was pretty standard. Unfortunately, I was left wanting a lot more grab than there was in the dip. In my opinion the dip was mostly cheese and I was having trouble finding the crab there. The meal itself was good, not exceptional by any meals. The salmon was cooked well and was moist, but the prawns on top had zero flavor and it felt they were just tossed on at the end right before coming to us. An excellent restaurant with a variety of choices. The place is fairly pricey but it's Banff, what can one do. Service was excellent, wait staff was engaged and answered many questions. First the appetizers; the mozzarella bread was an excellent starter, with richly flavored mozarella on top of tender bread. It's a combination that seems obvious, but I've never quite seen it done like this before. The tomato burrata salad was also excellent; a bit smaller in portion than expected, but still fresh, and nicely dressed with a balsamic vinegar. The burrata seemed particularly fresh. The slow-braised carrot bison short rib was an excellent main; the bison was tender, not gamey-tasting, and seemed like a good alternative to the more usual beef. The carrots and sweet potato were tasty, the demi sauce was a nice way to meld all the elements together. I would have liked more applesauce in the dish. The Hunter's Chicken Supreme with roasted mushrooms, sundried tomato, pistachio crunch, mashed potato, and vegetables was quite good too; the main thing was that a dark meat chicken was expected but what came out was a breast with a drummette, whereas a drumstick with thigh was expected. The roasted mushrooms were nicely textured, and the chicken was good, though perhaps the overall dish wasn't as creative as expected. The Alberta Beef Tenderloin with smoked cheddar mash, roasted mushroom medley, demi, chimichurri was really soft and juicy; the texture was really nice and the flavors blended very well together. Though people will tell you that this is one of the best restaurants in town, my group found it to be basic and uninteresting considering the price point. Upon reflection, I'm guessing that the menu has been dumbed down quite a bit compared to what I experienced 5 years ago. The main complaint is that nothing feels particularly high end or splurgy. No tantalizing raw seafood options and no large format steaks. The pasta options (risotto, linguine) were thrown together, the two indigenous dishes we had were fine but not extraordinary. The steaks were not impressive in terms of taste, preparation, or plating. Overall this is a decent restaurant but if it's still being pitched as a picturesque Canadian mountain steakhouse, other diners with similarly high expectations will continue to be disappointed. This place was recommended by one of the locals and unfortunately, we were disappointed :( they have indoor and outdoor dining and the ambiance inside was nice, felt like a cozy cabin. We got the Bison Short Rib Hash, Smoked Salmon Benedict and fresh orange and grapefruit juice. We asked for utensils twice but they took a really long time to get it to us so my husband ate his benedict using his hands but I had to wait. He thought the salmon was tasty but the dish itself was a bit plain. I didn't really like my bison hash 'cause the meat was really dry and was hard to chew. The potatoes were okay and the poached eggs were overcooked. I think the best part of my dish was the bread that was on the side, it was crunchy and good. I came in wanting to try their French onion soup but to my chagrin, they no longer had that on their menu. I ended up ordering a Benedict brekky and I am glad I did. I was delightful! I ordered some hard coffee libation, and was put off when the waiter poured a small can into a cup for me. I was taken aback! How dare he!
