Great restaurant with a great patio. Loved the location and the relaxed atmosphere. We got the tavern burger and the veggie burger and both were great! Highly recommend checking out next time visiting Canmore. read more

Great all around restaurant with lots of options, happy hour and patio you can't go wrong and Always a favorite when we visit Canmore!

Awesome patio, excellent service, decent food. I wouldn't go there for food only, but considering it's a bar - the quality of food is as expected. read more

Food, beverage and service were all great! My husband is celiac and very much enjoyed the fish & chips! They were delicious! Who doesn't like a fresh cut french fry? The wait staff was knowledgeable about what he could eat. Which was honestly a good portion of their menu. read more

Tavern 1883 - Burger, sweet potato fries and delicious appetizer (cream cheese l, French bread, blueberry and glaze) - Pubs Near Me - Canmore, Alberta

Found down a one way small side road that looks like a alley. The outside has a huge patio in front of a renovated old house converted to a tavern. Was a little drizzly when we showed up so the patio was closed. We sat inside, was very busy with lunch rush. Sat at a high table close to the entrance. The high chairs weren't very comfortable we kept sliding off, that's the minus one star. Waitress was very friendly took our drink and food orders. Ordered Tavern Burger with fries and gravy, Fish Tacos, Fish and Chips with soup. The food was good and very filling for pub food. -parking is difficult to find so if you find one it's pay through app you find on the sign. read more

We were really looking forward to a great meal and this place was recommended to us. When we arrived, I was thinking "this is my kind of place!". It definitely had a tavern feel (as stated in their name, lol). Our server was very sweet and helpful with her recommendations. I ordered the pork tacos but they got it wrong and served me the bowl. In hindsight, I should've taken the bowl and asked for tortillas on the side. There was way more shredded pork in the bowl than the tacos I was eventually served. My tacos were tasty, just not much meat. Fries were good. My son did enjoy his fish & chips. My husband didn't care for his bison burger and said it was too salty. My daughter ordered the dip trio and it was not great. While the food was nicely plated, it wasn't as good as it looked. read more

We came here after just getting into Canmore and had an excellent burger! Great value, and a large portion of fries too - I did feel it get a bit too greasy at the end, but definitely would come again especially if there was a slightly smaller option. read more

Tavern 1883 - Double cheeseburger - Pubs Near Me - Canmore, Alberta

We have enjoyed both times we have been here. The service was good. The beer selection is good and the burgers are fantastic.

This was our first spot we came in Canmore for dinner and a drink. We got a bison burger, regular burger, and veggie burger. My friend said the veggie burger was good. Both me and my other friend liked the bison burger better than the regular burger. I got beet salad as a side and it was really good. I would probably get a full beet salad as an entree if I went back. My friend got the poutine which I didn't really like that much. We split the fried pickles as an app and they were probably the best dish, besides the beet salad. A really nice coating that didn't fall apart (as happens with fried pickles often) and came out piping hot. They had a nice selection of beer, as well. Server was friendly. They had live music starting right before we left which is always nice. It's a solid choice if you're in Canmore and want pub food and a drink. read more

We ordered the Bison burgers (2 different selections), and they were the best food we have had in Canmore all week! Our server was great. Patient with questions and gave great recommendations. This place has the ambiance of a local dive bar restaurant, but that is what makes it all the more appealing! HIGHLY recommended if in town. read more

While on splurge mode on a recent vacation, I stopped in at this cute little place called Tavern 1883 for a bite. Feeling a bit peckish, I opted for this place because of the reviews about their poutine. And they are spot on. The poutine is fricking divine, bro! Hand-cut, skin-on chips that are crispy. House-made gravy with soft and gooey cheese curds topped with fresh arugula. If you pass on this $22 share-size poutine you made mistake number one. Mistake number two would be passing on their Caesar. It is rimmed with celery salt. Absolutely delicious but make sure you stir it so the yummy spicy Caesar mix isn't a mouthful at the end. Then the bison burger. Hot damn, son. Delicious. My only complaint is small. The relish is too sweet. Paired with the salty bacon it just runs over the flavors. Ask them to go easy on the relish or pass on it. Otherwise, the burger smashes. Value? Five stars. Service? Six stars. Relish? Two stars. Eat here. Period. read more

We stopped here while completing the Alberta Food Tour as this was one of the first trivia stops. We went at 3pm on a Wednesday and we were pretty much the only ones in there. We lived the deep fried pickles!!! And the beer we had was very good (I don't remember what it was though!) Our server was very nice and made sure to check on us frequently. The ambiance is very nice - all dark wood. I would definitely come back again! read more

My friend and I came to Tavern 1883 after a long day of driving and hiking in September. We arrived Saturday evening around 8:20, and the place was packed! They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Our preference was outdoors, and luckily they still had a couple tables available outside. It was a bit chilly out, but they had heat lamps, so I felt comfortable taking my jacket off. As you'd expect from a pub, the alcohol selection here is great, with all the usual suspects like beers, wines, cocktails, hard liquors, etc. I went with a white wine sangria ($12). Felt like I deserved it after a long and tiring hike. It was served with some berries and orange slices and was very refreshing. I got the fish and chips ($21) for my main. I don't eat this dish often, but I thought it was delicious here (or maybe I was too hungry lol). The batter was nice and crispy without being overly thick, and the fish inside was still very moist. Didn't taste dry or overcooked at all. My friend initially wasn't very hungry, so he snacked on the falafels ($13), but later ended up ordering their mushroom / veg burger ($18) to go for a late dinner. I think if we had stayed a little bit longer, there might've been a live DJ and some dancing happening. They had just started charging cover as we were leaving. read more

Fun place to go with a group, especially for trivia and bingo night! Loved the Canadian bison burger and poutine. Music was upbeat and the servers were very friendly. Went there twice because of the food and atmosphere. read more

Great for happy hour but I wouldn't want to pay full price for the quality of food, drinks, or service.

We would rate this as a 3.7. It's a bar and burger place. You go there and order a beer and a burger. The burgers are a notch better than McDonald's and their fries are great. That's it, that's why you go here. It's probably the best burger in town and it's a small town. The service is slow to nonchalant. It's a typical bar with outdoor seating and live music at night. I would not personally ever go back but if you want a burger after a long hike might as well give it a shot once. read more

We went here tonights in a row as they had a Montain Hour special. 2:00pm - 5:00pm all drinks and food were 40% off. Service was amazing and so was the ambiance of the restaurant. We will definitely go back. read more

Everyone in our party expected more from this establishment based off the recommendations, so we were all a bit disappointed with our dinner and service. Our waitress was extremely slow and inattentive. I ordered the gyro wrap and was not impressed. My Caesar salad was good though. Everyone else's plates looked mediocre and unappetizing. This place seems more of a bar than nice restaurant to have dinner at. If you're looking for a low-key place to grab drinks, great. Good dinner worth your money... probably want to try another place. read more

We ordered takeout from Tavern 1883 tonight, and sadly it was a huge disappointment. Their menu sounded interesting with all the game meats and that was why we decided to give it a try. It also scored high enough on Yelp and Google. Everything was salty, but the worst was the poutine. It was unbearably salty. If you have to watch your sodium intake, avoid this place. The 1 star is for the person answering the phone who did take the time to ask the kitchen if the poutine is usually made like this. My husband and family are from Montreal, Quebec, so he knows how it's supposed to taste and even he had to admit it's overly salty. I also found a hard piece (like cartilage) in the elk meatballs. I don't mind cartilage if I'm eating off the bone, but not in a meatball. We will not be coming back. read more

It was our last night in Canmore and we were looking for a place to chill. Tavern 1883 turned out to be a fun night! It was Sunday night when they have bingo at 8.30. The vibe is good. Loved the brussel sprouts, they were perfect crispy! The cauliflower bites were actually covered in batter and fried, would appreciate if the menu mentioned that. The lemon garlic gnocchi was good. The bingo night was a lot of fun and we even one a prize! Staff were all very friendly, quite a few vegetarian options in food. read more

The patio was a beautiful setting but a little cramped. We had a kind waitress that did her best to accommodate us as our food (party of 2) took 50 minutes to come out. When 2 parties of 4, who sat down after us and ordered similar items, came out 20-30 minutes before ours. While I know this is out of the hands of the waitress, I was very disappointed in the lack of management at this establishment. Never once did a manager come speak to us or support the waitress in this situation. None the less, the waitress was apologetic, kind and compensated us for our delay. This made the world of difference in this experience! The salad was fresh and delicious! The burger had a great flavor and the sweet potato fries were the best I have had in a long time!! read more

Stopped in here for dinner on our first night in Canmore. Was pretty lively for a Sunday evening at 8:30pm-ish, but was seated right away inside (it was a beautiful night out so outside was all taken). There was some fun live music. Service was super friendly and efficient. I got the summer rice bowl, which was noted as spicy, and is truly pretty spicy. The spice is all in the sauce, but it would be pretty bland without the sauce. My friend enjoyed her tacos and fries, and we both enjoyed our beers, and the music. read more

Cool pub in the Canmore area, especially on Wednesday nights when they have TRIVIA!! You can win free prizes (such as an ice scraper, gift cards to the pub, and even shots!). They didn't have a limit on the team size, which sucks for smaller teams, but it was still really fun to play. They have an extensive beer list (draft, cans, bottles) and also a full bar. Their food menu is pretty varied, and ranges from pub classics to ribs and salmon. We opted to try: -Montreal Smoked Meat & Truffle Oil Poutine ($20, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=3BXjvIdjpamr6PvprW77LQ&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): The cheese curds were awesome and had a great chew, and the fries were solid. However, the smoked meat was too salty. I would order the poutine again, but not with the smoked meat. -Tavern Chef Salad (Romaine, Tomato, Cucumber, Herb Chicken, Corn & Queso Fresco, Sweet & Spicy Bacon, Hard Boiled Egg, Green Onion w/Maple Dijon Vinaigrette Dressing, $21): Great salad, and I was surprised by how good it was. They give you a large portion for the price, and this was an entree sized salad- recommended! Overall, this was a fun place to stop by in Canmore for good food and drinks, and an awesome time on Wednesday nights! It took about 2 hours to finish playing all the rounds of trivia. read more

After a long day of hiking, this place really hit the spot. We came straight from our hike for an early dinner at 4 and it was already fairly crowded, but there were a handful of open tables. We got two burgers: the wild boar burger and the ultimate tavern burger. We wanted to try the duck nuts but unfortunately, they were out. I may have a skewed viewpoint since I just finished hiking 10 miles and was starving, but I think these were the best burgers I've ever had. The flavor of the meat was incredibly and the toppings were delicious. We upgraded to parmesan truffle fries which were equally good with fresh shaved parmesan. The service was awesome. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and had great recommendations. Our food came out pretty quickly and they were very attentive. If you're in Canmore it Banff, I would definitely recommend coming here. read more

Went here after a long day in Banff. I got a Gin Mojito that was very good. My wings I ordered were also decent. The service throughout the night was pretty poor. We were rarely checked in on, and it took forever to get our check, and it wasn't even busy. FYI the waiters do curse a lot, personally it didn't bother me at all, just a heads up for the family's with young children. Overall the food was good and the service was poor. 3 Stars. read more

Burgers were so so but that was what drew us to visit. French fries were limp not hot or crispy. Service was ok as they were busy, no staff stopped by to see if our water glasses needed a refill.
