I visited Bear Street Tavern based off of a recommendation by a coworker. Beer and pizza is usually a winning combination and Bear Street Tavern is a great example of this. Admittedly, I'm not much of a drinker but I'll have some once in a while and Bear Street seems to have a pretty good selection. I tried a Vietnamese Coffee Stout which I enjoyed. I'm definitely more of an eater than I am a drinker and the eats at Bear Street Tavern are excellent. My party got 2 pizzas and a salad and we enjoyed it all. To start we got the Tavern Bowl. It's a bunch of different vegetables with a Tahini Miso Dressing and kimchi on top. All the different textures and flavors worked really well together and the salad served as a nice break between bites of pizza. The Wheeler Hut pizza has mushrooms, ricotta, truffle oil, pesto, and mozzarella. If you're a fan of truffle flavor you'll enjoy this pizza. As soon as it was brought out I could already smell the truffle. The Mediterranean has olives, feta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, red onions, chili flakes, spinach, mozzarella, and balsamic glaze. A little busier than the Wheeler Hut, but it was equally delicious. I'm not sure which pizza I liked more. Both pizzas had a fantastic crust with some char. Substantial enough to stand up to the toppings but still a little doughy for a nice chew. The char gives a nice crunch as well. Service is quick and friendly and the prices are fair, especially in a tourist area. I definitely recommend Bear Street Tavern. read more

Came here twice during our vacation. We sat at the bar both times with no wait for our seats. Our servers were very friendly and quick. This was our favorite pizza spot in Banff! We ordered the double double pepperoni pizza and the big bird. They offer honey and chili oil to dip the pizza in. They have a full variety of beer and cocktails. One of the worst Pizza's I've ever had. The truffle oil is clearly fake. Waters were not refilled throughout dinner. Crust was dry and yet the pizza sagged. I was excited to go back to my hotel and brush my teeth and use mouth wash to get rid of the disgusting pungent flavor of the pizzas the waitress recommended. PS the bathrooms were DISGUSTING. After our hike, we were craving classic bar food and a cold draft beer. Totally on us for not checking the menu first, we assumed 'tavern' meant more variety, but it was mostly pizza. No biggie. We each got a personal pan pizza (you'll definitely want your own, they're on the smaller side). Prices were a bit steep--over $25 each once you factor in drinks, and the beers were more than $12 each, so the bill added up fast. The pizza itself was just okay, but adding the honey really took it up a notch--that was the game changer. Great spot to relax and enjoy pizza! The Big Bird hit the spot! Loved the freshness and flavor of the pesto, chicken and bacon. Split it between two people. And I learned a new trick! Another visit, another 5 star experience. We love Bear Street Tavern. The big bird pizza is our favorite, and it lived up to our expectations. The crust of their pizzas is as good as their unique combinations of toppings. This pizza place was recommended by our tour guide, Vincent. He said they make good wood fire pizzas and that their house made chili sauce was good on everything. It sounded good so we stopped in for dinner. The restaurant was located at the heart of the downtown Banff and was in front of a small parking lot. There was a public fire pit nearby and the fire looked cozy. We opted to sit outside, since it wasn't too cold yet and we wanted to enjoy the downtown scenery. Our server took our order and delivered our food quickly, which was much appreciated. We ordered a summer salad, chicken wings and two pizzas to share between 3 people. It was more than enough food. The wings were good, but we enjoyed the summer salad and the margarita pizza more. The summer salad was packed with fresh vegetables, peaches and candied pecans. The pizza had a wood fire crispy crust but yet the pizza was still tender and soft. Out of the two pizzas we ordered, we preferred the Margarita to the maple syrup infused Canadian pizza. We enjoyed dipping slices into the honey & infused secret chili oil. Vincent was right, it really was good with everything. The place had a cozy and nice atmosphere, though the tables were a bit close together and small, so our pizzas ended up stacked on top of each other, which was an experience in itself. We tried about five different beers, which was a fun way to sample what they had to offer. For food, we went with the Godfather and Big Bird calzone. Both were tasty and well-made, definitely worth trying if you're a fan of hearty, flavorful pizzas. One of the highlights for me was the chili oil, which I'm a big fan of. Sunday happy hour for that 50% off pizzas! It almost doesn't matter which half off pizza you choose because it's all so cheap! Wheeler Hut: Get!! I loved this one so much as the crispy pizza crust combined with the juicy mushrooms is like a match made in heaven. Big Bird: Maybe? Not sure if it was just this pizza but it was a lot softer and the crust more flaccid. It was still enjoyable but I preferred the above pizza way more. Something I didn't know was also the honey+chili oil combo which blew my mind.... make sure to ask for this if they don't already give it to you. $10 steins are also amazing (it's two pints basically) but you really have to commit to drinking that much. We were surprised to see that almost every restaurant in Banff has pizza on the menu but luckily enough the first restaurant we ate at happened to be the best pizza spot in town. We were in love with the honey and chili oil they serve with the pizza and it just really was dang good pizza. We were told multiple times after we ate there that they have the best pizza in town. Visited the tavern on a Sunday afternoon and my family and I chose to sit outside on their very nice patio. This tavern is known for their pizzas and I see why! The waitress provided excellent service and went out of her way to make sure that the dip I ordered was vegan. I ordered the Mediterranean pizza which had a v+ option replacing the vegan cheese. It was amazing! Seriously that's the best vegan pizza I've had in a while. I liked that the menu was very vegan friendly providing v+ options for other items on the menu as well. Had read some pretty good reviews on this place so had to give it a try while staying in Banff. Wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be, but that was mostly because the pizza sauce reminded me of pizza hut, which is one of my least favorite pizza chain restaurants. Aside from the underwhelming sauce the pizza was pretty good, it was loaded with cheese and I liked that they had honey on the table, it was the perfect sweetness to add some more balance to the pie. They also had. a chili oil that wasn't too spicy. We planned to order a salad and pizza for two of us to share, unfortunately there had been an issue with salad fridge the night before so there were no salads available that day. We still ended up sharing a pizza, we opted for the Godfather and substituted the prosciutto with chicken. We ended up sitting on the back patio, it was pretty quiet since the area was in a little shopping square. Very relaxing. Came on a Wednesday evening in the summer and had just over a 30 minute wait. Once our group was called I actually heard the hostess say they weren't taking any more people on the waitlist for a while, so get there early if you want to dine here in the summer. read more
