We came here on a whim to find a nice place to eat as we were on our way to Lake Louise. We walked around town to find a place to eat and my wife loves Italian, so we tried to walk in at about 6pm. Luckily for us, there was an open seat (reservation are highly recommended.. it was packed). We were greeted by the waiter who gave us the choice of sparkling or still water. Fancy schmancy. We got the still house water. The place was packed, full, and a bit loud, but also romantic given the atmosphere and the views. Good place to take a date, but not a good place if you wanted a private booth/moment. I ordered the seafood linguine, and my wife ordered the spicy rigatoni alla vodka. We also ordered the little gem caesar to share, and she also go the coffee martini for her drink. I got soda. The caesar came out and it was one of the best caesars I had. It was presented by having two baby heads of romaine lettuce covered with caesar dressing. Very tasty and creamy. Very very good! Next time, I am going to order one for just myself! Only eating one baby romaine head left me wanting more! After the salad, the pastas came out and the seafood linguine was remarkable! Presented as a bundle of linguini with seafood on the sides, all covered in white wine/clam sauce. One of THE BEST seafood linguines I have ever tried! My wife's spicy rigatoni was spicy and had a kick (I am Thai so take that for what it's worth). My wife thought it was a bit too spicy for her, but overall the dish was meh. Reminds me of the pasta alla vodka at Cheesecake Factory, but without the sausage. I do believe if there was an option to add sausage, the dish would've been 100x better. The dish just got bland the more you ate it. And because of this, I ended up eating the rigatoni, and my wife ate the linguini lol. Just kidding.. kinda. Below are the dishes we ordered: scallop crudo -- absolutely delicious! The scallops were so fresh and the sauce was so yummy. Loved the crispies on top (potato?). This was my favorite dish from our visit! winter squash pizza -- this sounded so unique so we had to try it! It was flavorful, and the star was definitely the crust!! Really nice restaurant with great food in a fantastic location! Everything was great. Went twice in a weeklong stay. My only nitpick is don't book a reservation at the "counter". Counter seats abut the bar as you might expect, but the bartender doesn't serve you (and there's a bit of a partition blocking you from the bartender). The whole time you'll be speaking to your server over your shoulder or behind your back. Do it right and book a reservation EARLY and at a proper table. read more

I stumbled upon Lupo while searching Google for a nice dinner restaurant in Banff. Sorry Yelp, but, hardly anyone uses you in Alberta. They are located upstairs in the Cascade Shops. They seemed like they were separate from the mall with no direct access to the mall itself. Reservations were made about a month in advance. When we arrived, we were promptly seated. We ordered their seafood linguine and their halibut. The halibut was their fish of the day. The halibut was cooked in their Josper oven which kept the fish moist. The seafood linguine was full of shrimp, scallop, crabmeat and clams. My wife really enjoyed it. My only complaint was that their portions were a little small. Service was good. We got a gorgeous table with a beautiful view of the outside on the second floor- perfect table to celebrate my mom's anniversary! We ordered- Margherita 3.5- pizza is pizza, but the crust was good but the pizza was a little bit too salty for our liking. Pesto Campanelle 4.5/5- surprisingly this was so good! The service was spectacular. I don't think I caught our server's name, but I just know she's from Montreal. She gave me recommendations for bagel places to try in Montreal, and she was attentive throughout the meal. Our hostess actually gave us great pasta recommendations. I loved loved loved the pesto pasta. Both pastas we got were made perfectly, and it brought me right back to Italy. I also don't usually like tiramisu. It's something I will try one bite and not touch again just because I don't like the texture. But THIS tiramisu was phenomenal. We started with the Caprese salad. The cheese was so light and fluffy. Tomatoes fresh. Excellent. Pair this with the focaccia bread and you get a nice mix of textures. Loved the warm and crusty bread. Next came our entrees. I chose the pesto Campanella and husband had the Roseline which was rolled lasagna. We loved our meals. Get the pizza here!! We made a reservation late at night but were able to get seated a tad earlier when we arrived. The inside is massive and well decorated, and the ambiance is super nice. I got the diavola pizza, and my friends got the caccio e pepe, carbonara, and sausage pastas. I must say the pizza was by far the best - the flavor was so perfectly balanced of spicy sweet salty and tangy, and the sourdough crust was probably the best I've ever had. It was crispy yet chewy and fluffy, and the flavor was so delicious even on its own. Amongst the pastas, they were all good but nothing stood out to me too much. We also got the focaccia which was pretty good, but the pizza crust was even better. During happy hour, they offer three different pasta dishes, five pizzas, and two antipasti dishes/salads. There was a great selection of discounted alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. I like the restaurant's decorations and ambiance. We ordered the frozen peach Bellini, vesuvian blossom, caprese salad, Roseline, and rigatoni Bolognese. The interior on the second floor is a typical modern casual Italian ambiance. Service was very friendly but the food took quite a while to get out and it took a long time between visits from our server to order and to get our cheque. We ordered the Uncle Morty pizza (5/5, the sourdough crust was great and the toppings were quality), spicy rigatoni alla vodka (4/5), and spaghetti and meatballs (4/5). This place had the most amazing food. We had mixed reviews on it from locals, but decided to go check it out anyways. Thank God we did! Get the Caprese as an appetizer. One of the best I've had. Also, anything you order, add Burratta to it because their Burrata is so good and makes everything even more better! I added it to my spicy rigatoni pasta, and my mom had the pizza. When we first came in, they set us at a high top and we requested a low top which they were so gracious to let us switch tables. I felt bad because it also switched our waitress, but both of our backs were very uncomfortable on the high top tables. Atmosphere is OK. This may have been the best Italian meal we've ever had anywhere, perhaps a top 5 meal of all time. We started with the spicy meatballs and caprese and both were excellent. The caprese was so fresh and light and the meatballs the perfect contrast, not too spicy. For the mains we had the agnolotti and roseline and both were out of this world. Kept going back and forth on what we liked more. Flavor explosions, creamy and rich filled pasta with the agnolotti; thered sauce in the roseline, with extra cheesy goodness, kind of like a sideways lasagna with ham...so good. The burrata could have been better quality and the tomatoes could have been more flavorful. 6.5/10 -garden salad: this one floored me! This is one of the best salads I've ever had! It had a bright vinaigrette that really popped! The almonds were a lovely accompaniment. 9/10 -Cesar salad: the Cesar was anchovy forward which I like, my table did not like having to cut up the lettuce. But this was a very salads Cesar 7/10 -focaccia: the focaccia bread was great. Nice and light and airy. Well seasoned. Served with well seasoned olive oil. 8.5/10 -mushroom pizza: this was great! I love mushrooms so this was right up my alley. Great thin crust, great choice of cheeses. It was a lovely umami bomb. 8.5/10 I ordered the agnolotti and it was heavenly. The potato and raclette filling was very rich, and the truffle butter sauce only added to the richness, but it was the perfect dish to warm me up. We got lucky today getting into this place in Banff after being on the waitlist as they're booked solid for days. It's clearly a fancy, heavily invested restaurant right in the middle of town, but here's the thing: the prices are outrageous. Banff isn't cheap to begin with, but $28 for a plain pasta with no protein? That's pushing it. We added shrimp for another $12, and they brought exactly three shrimp. Yes, three. Service was slow, food took ages, and when it arrived, it was nothing special. I've been to fine dining spots where you can taste the quality, see the artistry, and actually understand the price point. This wasn't that. It's a regular place with Instagram-worthy décor but underwhelming food. The prices are the biggest pain point, and for very ordinary dishes, I just don't see the value. I got the sicilian sour to start off my meal and the server came back to make sure that it wasn't too sweet for my taste. Our group got a couple of things to share but the most memorable thing was the pork chop and the uncle morty (pizza). The meatball was a bit of a disappointment since there were only 3 meatballs. We got the seafood pasta and steak holiday special. The steak was horrible and $250. It was perhaps one of the worst steaks I've ever had in my life. It was chewy and the side had this unchewable tendon part. It was also insanely salty. The lobster fries were fried mac and cheese. I hate mac and cheese so I probably would have asked for a replacement or not gotten it if I had been told it was fried lobster mac and cheese to look like fries. The winter salad was amazing. I loved the arugula and squash together, sweet and salty. The seafood pasta had WAYYYY too much cheese. Our party of 13 had one long table that took up its own part of the restaurant, with a window at the end with a fabulous view of the main street and mountain. The restaurant is entirely on the second floor of the building. We were there on a Tuesday so all pizzas are $16 starting at 4:30pm. Our server did not tell us about it, but we ended up getting one anyway, the Diavola. It was nice and the spicy sauce was on point. The dough was so light and chewy. I also had some of the Cacio e Pepe, which had perfectly cooked pasta. I tried the Spicy Rigatoni alla Vodka and the sauce was again very bold, and made the dish, along with the fresh pasta. It was in the middle of the week and during off season, so we didn't need any reservations or at least we got lucky with a table. Although I didn't walk around, but there was bar in the middle.
