While the setting is picturesque and the service is courteous, we were somewhat underwhelmed by the food. We ordered a green salad with chicken, schnitzel with cheese, beets, roasted potatoes, sautéed cabbage, and apple strudel. The portions were pretty generous. Some dishes were under seasoned, namely the cabbage and roasted potatoes. The beets were nice, and the schnitzel was filling. What impressed me was that they do a great job of accommodating gluten free folks. They can make the schnitzel and fondue gluten free. They also offer gluten free Black Forest cake for dessert. Great beers and recommend the schnitzel with lemon. We also ordered the trout which came with barely any veggies or sides. We left a little hungry since the fish was on the smaller side. The patio was unfortunately closed for a private event but the upstairs dining room still has a beautiful balcony you can go out on to see the view. It is a bit of a walk down a few flights of steps to get here from the hotel so be sure to give yourself around 15-20 minutes to get here from the main lobby! read more

This was one of my favorite restaurants I got to try in Banff. The bratwurst was my favorite item that we ordered. The links were juicy and incredibly flavorful, and the sauce + whole grain mustard that it was served with was incredible. The schnitzel was a bit underwhelming with just the lemon but once I dipped it into the bratwurst sauce it completely elevated the dish! I feel that they could've tenderized the schnitzel more so that it could be crispier. As for the mushroom & squash schnitzel, it was a refreshing, delicious appetizer! We had a pretty nice dinner here! We came in from way out of town and were staying in Banff for one night the day before the Flames vs. Oilers Heritage Classic game. We found this place as a result of simultaneous minimal research and wandering, and couldn't wait to warm up after a day trekking around parts of the park. We started out with some poutine. I'm a big poutine fan, having lived in Quebec before poutine exploded onto the scene and is now available seemingly everywhere in Canada. That being said, I am a poutine purist, and while this one was good and nice and hearty, I think it could've done without the pulled pork addition. For my entree I opted for the mushroom tartine. I really, really enjoyed this. The potatoes that it came with were coated in a whole grain mustard, these were great as well. My husband got the Wurst plate, and while these were good I'm glad I got my mushroom toast! The locale is very cute, a short walk from the Fairmont Hotel. The staff took good care of us. Went to this place for a lunch today. Main restaurant closed but the pub was open. This was a Saturday 11:30AM. What a gorgeous place inside. There's a pub/bar area and some further seating in a the general sort of area, where we chose to sit. Started the meal with the potato onion soup. It was tasty and apart from the parts mentioned in the soup description, it also featured some bacon strips. Great portion, not too much and not too small. Great starter. Flavor was amazing and exactly what I was anticipating. For the main, I picked the JägerSchnitzel with potato salad and ordered a side of Spätzle to go with it. Those were very well done and super flavorful. I do have to give it a slight deduct for the potato salad. It wasn't what I expected and was not something I'd refer to it as that. Having said that, I am also sure that many others might find it wonderful also. Just not what I grew up with in southern Germany. The total meal was a stunner and super flavorful. The staff working this day, was amazing and super friendly. With the food as amazing as it was and the staff as amazing as they were, if I had to pick a winner between the two, it would be a draw. Both were exceptional. I had to drive back to Calgary that day, so I couldn't participate in the excellent selection of German beers they offer by the mass, but from watching some others, it appeared to be most enjoyable. Also watched a neighboring table savor the cheese fondue. That looked amazing as well. I'd say this place is easily one of the best places to dine at in Banff and will highly recommend it to anyone. read more

We ate here twice during our visit to Banff. The menu has plenty of items to choose from, but our favorite was the bratwurst with the onion gravy and arugula. Loved that they have a fire pit outside on the patio to enjoy while taking in the breathtaking view behind Fairmont Banff Springs. Shout out to Craig and all the staff. Banff fooled me. I was up early and the city center was largely empty and easily traversed. Came back for an early dinner and didn't think a reservation would be a problem - wrong. We quickly gave up and headed back to the hotel hoping we could find a restaurant on the grounds. Waldhaus Pub easily accommodated our group of 6 on the patio. You can't beat the view and the German themed menu was on point too. Schnitzel, bratwursts, and flights of beer were ordered and all were great. The prices were what you can expect in a tourist town ($$$). Special shout to our waiter (Jack) - funny, down to earth and gave great service. read more

We just had to go visit the Fairmont while staying in Banff for a few days. What better than an incredible fondue dinner in a beautiful restaurant overlooking the golf course with elk scattered everywhere?! We had the fondue to share which was so delicious. I legit licked the bowl clean. Absolutely the best part of the meal. For dinner, I had the trout which was beautifully plated and equally tasty. We also ordered the spatzle but unfortunately, our waitress forgot to bring it. When I asked for it, she brought it out right away but it tasted a bit dried out and wasn't that great. Goodfood and I'm sure during the daylight it's a great view although it's been years since I was there during the daylight and this most recent visit they were there at night time so obviously no view... I must admit we went home a week later and reproduce the entire dinner, including homemade spatula and homemade Pork schnitzel and the homemade version was much much better but literally less than 1/10 the price... 4.25 stars for a great dinner and a good time. They have a good menu that is not too extensive but all are quality choices. The restaurant books up so recommend reservations. They have a downstairs pub as well as upstairs dining. When there is daylight, the grounds are beautiful and relaxing. 1. Potato onion soup - Flavorful, good portion, can be filling 2. Pretzel - Big pretzel, not too salted, comes with mustard 3. Cheese fondue - We filled up on this! They give you plenty of bread and plenty of cheese here. Good for 3-4 people. 4. Chocolate fondue - Don't be fooled but the smaller tub of chocolate here. It is deep and heavy! Good accompaniments for the chocolate and good for 3-4 people also. Get the fondue and the beer steins!!!! Great place for German style atmosphere and food. Everything is delicious and every item is very generous with portion sizes. They sometimes have 3 course menus that are a really good deal so I often opt for those. Also make sure to go for a walk afterwards. This place has an amazing view of the fairmont golf course. We had the Fondue experience that comes w fondue, choice of 1 entree per person and chocolate fondue dessert. Fondue was great. We didn't add on any meat. Chocolate fondue came w shortbread, lemon madeleine, marshmallows and too much other stuff to recall. Fondue experience is $95 /person and best value on menu. Service was friendly and V good. What's not to like? German food and fondue in the mountains, overlooking the Bow River and part of the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. This used to be the old clubhouse for the golf course. A bit tricky to get to if you have mobility concerns, ask for a shuttle from the main hotel as needed. It's quite a steep slope to walk down, but way harder on the way back up. The opportunity that I would offer up is this: when asked to recommend around food portions, I think that we could have got better advice. Our server actually commented that themselves at the end of our meal. We wasted an obscene amount of food. My husband had a regular dinner, while my daughter and I asked for advice and then ordered to share: appetizer sized fondue, meal sized fondue, with the offered add on of a side of charcuterie. At the end of the meal we still had a full pot of cheese and a lot of the dippers left. Cheese with bread, apple, cornichons and the meats. So delicious. We needed a walk after that! This was a highlight of my visit to Banff. We had a reservation to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were greeted by some very friendly staff upon entering, where we then hung our coats and entered the dining room. Some guests were dressed up, others more casual, and two groups had children while we were there. I would say the service is high end but the environment isn't completely formal or stuffy. We started off with the standard fondue, though once we smelled someone else's mushroom/truffle cheese fondue, we wished we had chosen that. The classic fondue was good- but could have been better. The wine taste is strong and it was missing a sharp savory bite that I expect in a cheese fondue. However, we enjoyed it overall. My husband ordered the Pickerel, and I the schnitzel. We both thoroughly enjoyed our entrees and finished every bite. The staff is quick to clear the tables between courses, but I asked to keep our leftover fondue to dip my schnitzel in. I'm glad I did that because it was a great combination. The pairing of the apple slaw with potatoes and schnitzel just complemented each other perfectly. I was genuinely surprised with how much I loved my entree. My husband loved his fish and cleaned his plate, then ordered the strudel. I was so full I could hardly move, but couldn't resist a bite of his dessert. It was warm with spices (and temperature), with high quality vanilla ice cream. 10/10. I forgot to mention my husband had the local cider which was on tap and it was crisp and delicious. Super friendly service and such a lovely view from the outdoor dining patio. Everyone ran over to the railing when someone spotted a male elk, soon followed by his whole family, including little ones that were chasing each other around. Dusk was great timing to be there. Parking was down the road by a really scenic viewpoint of the Bow River. We stopped to take a few photos before walking up to the restaurant. We were there more for a snack than a full meal, so the spätzle and schnitzel together worked out for the three of us. It was actually even too generous in portion sizes for us to finish there. Had some leftovers for breakfast. The beers and cocktails were ok - it could have been nice to have a glass of wine instead (but how could you, with the name??). Waldhaus is such an unexpected, cute experience at the Fairmont Banff Springs. It is a German restaurant located by Bow Falls. It is a little bit of a walk down from the hotel or you can take a golf cart. It is located on the 15th tee and used to be the golf clubhouse. Upstairs is the dining hall. Downstairs is the more informal pub with an awesome patio. The menu is a little limited. We tried the fondue experience. We were warned it would leave us feeling really to explode. They were right! It is a lot of food but it is definitely worth it. So delicious. Serious was great. Cute place. read more

Waldhaus proved to be such a cute date night spot for us while we were vacationing in Banff. Located at the corner of the Fairmont hotel, is this sweet little Swiss cabin fondue place. Parking - if you want to park at the Fairmont's main parking area, there are shuttles that will transport you back and forth. But I recommend parking directly behind the restaurant, near bow falls. For a short walk up and a few stairs, you'll park for free and quicker than dealing with a shuttle. We ordered the prefix Waldhaus fondue experience - which offers the basics with Gruyère and wine cheese fondue. We indulged in our favorite German beers and ordered the schweineschnitzel and the veal chop, which both were 5/5. It was so much food, we ended up taking most of our main courses home (we went a little ham on the fondue + bread combo). We barely had room for the chocolate fondue at the end, but it was also a generous amount, which we ended up taking home as well. Food was fantastic, the prefix is worth it especially if you're hungry, the ambience was amazing, and the service was decent! 5/5 read more

I absolutely love this restaurant! They have a set menu so the only thing you need to choose is your main course. The first course of the meal is a cheese fo due with bread, and veggies to dip in such as pickles and onions. If you run out of bread and there is still more cheese left than they give you more bread but not more veggies. You pick your main course such as chicken pork or a vegetarian dish. We stopped in for a late beverage and bite about 30 minutes before they were closing. We sat at the bar and had a very enjoyable chat with the friendly bartender. We enjoyed our beers and an order of onion rings -- they hit the spot for that time of night. This might be the most casual dine-in option at the Fairmont Hotel, and we enjoyed our brief time there. Nice surprise to find a Pub and Biergarten located near Bow Falls view site. Housed separate from the Fairmont Hotel but it is on the grounds of the golf course. From the patio there is a nice view of one of the greens. A short walk from the parking lot you feel like you are approaching the home of a German home in a village. The service was polite and prompt. We tried the fondue for the table-yummy! My family loved the schnitzel and I had the fish. Rave reviews all around except my vegetables were a bit over salted. I've had the opportunity to grab a beverage at Waldhaus Pub during two visits to Banff (one in 2019 and a more recent, June 2022, visit). We just sit on the patio and overlook one of the gorgeous golf course holes. The views on the patio are gorgeous, 360 degree views. On my most recent visit I got a 20 oz. Pilsner to celebrate the completion of the Banff marathon. We also split the spinach dip which was tasty although it came with bread. When asked for a side of chips, we were charged $5 for a side kettle chips. Our server, Brona, was attentive. I will return! read more

This was one of our favorite meals. Do yourself a favor, park at the Fairmont hotel and come early so you can explore. It was BEAUTIFUL. Ambiance: Was one of the cutest restaurants. Super cozy and was a great date spot. But we also saw plenty of families experiencing it together. Food: We did the Fondue Experience. It included cheese fondue appetizer, an entree of your choosing, and a chocolate fondue dessert. Only thing bad I'll say about the food is that you need to remember it's a marathon and not a sprint. So I'd recommend eating less than you think you need (at least for some of the first few courses). Cheese fondue was great. It had bread, apples, and pickles that you could dip in it. Our waitress told us after that the only people that finish the full 3 courses are the people that don't try to eat all the bread (so pace yourself). Entrees - we got a schnitzel and a veal chop. Both were good. But both were very filling. Just eat how much you want and save room for dessert. Chocolate fondue was probably my favorite course (but I do have a bit of a sweet tooth). It came with assorted fruit and assorted pastries to dip in there. Drinks - I got a pineapple margarita that was great and my wife enjoyed an old fashioned and she enjoyed it too. She even gave us other restaurant recommendations for when we were going to Canmore the next day (which her recommendations were also good).
