We ordered drunken noodle and pineapple fried rice to end our hiking day and needless to say, it's debatable. The drunken noodle had some flavor, with tons of garlic mixed somewhere in there but honestly, I just wish they added more effort into their food and actually taste like Thai as opposed to just throwing in ingredients in there and calling it a dish. Don't even get me started with their pineapple fried rice. It's a big blob of yellow rice. No flavor, no colors, rice tastes old as heck. It was an absolute waste of money. We bought soup from somewhere else and thought it might try to make up for it, but no. The rice was horrible. I would highly recommend to NOT get it. Food so hot that I was breathing flames like the dragon in The Hobbit Movies. This is a small Thai restaurant in the back of a large indoor shopping mall. All malls are indoors deep in the Canadian Rockies. Our tour group was attending a meeting by a local ammolite specialist, when we passed this place. Hole in the wall place, with tables both inside and outside in the corridor leading to the outside of the mall. Nice décor above the cashier box, with the standard lady mannequin dressed in traditional clothes to greet us. We get a table inside, and order the $16 CAD pad thai with shrimp, and the $19 CAD basil chicken, my favorite at home. Service is so slow that I wonder if the middle aged Asian waitress is also the cook, as she is darting in and out of the kitchen for lengths of time. Takes a good 25 minutes before our meals come, and the place was barely filled with only a few white folks. The pad thai is somewhat bland, with a handful of tasteless shrimp, shredded scrambled egg, over dry chicken, that looked liked it had been thawed and then heated up, combined with peanut crumbs over a bed of noodles and some bean sprouts. Not enough vegetables, and not spicy enough. Looks like all the spicy was somehow displaced from the pad thai and dumped onto the basil chicken. This dish had tons of cabbage, carrots, red peppers, broccoli, onions over a few strips of chicken -usually the chicken is ground up for this dish. Not enough chicken, and instead of red chilis, they had tiny red flakes of chilis. Red hot, I drank the water and the wife's water while panting, with my tongue hanging out! We ate everything but the cabbage, as the red flakes were too hot to eat, and too tiny to separate out of the cabbage. $2.50 for rice, and mandatory 15% gratuity added to the bill, to bring the lunch total to $45 CAD. Another unusual restaurant with 107 tripadvisor reviews and only 18 yelp reviews. Most of their clients are older out of town tourists. 2 stars for the service and 2 stars for the food. So why three stars? 4 stars for ambiance. I've had many a meal ruined by crying babies. On entering the place, we heard a crying baby at the table outside. Prominent sign says "no stroller inside please", with the silhouette of a stroller, within a circle and diagonal slash. My kind of place! read more

This family-owned restaurant is my hidden gem in Banff - Especially if you are craving something other than the usual steak, veggies and pasta. You'd miss it if you are only looking from the road (main restaurant is indoors but also have a patio). I ordered a pad Thai and paid extra for shrimp. Ended up delivering chicken.. the noodles are very dry. Probably the worst dumplings I've ever had. Absolutly expected pork since it said pork. Instead it's a bunch of things mixed together. Lastly I also ordered spring rolls that also managed to have no flavour. The whole experience was TERRIBLE. First off, the lady on the phone was impolite and would not accept my credit card info on the phone. Once I got there... it was completely deserted. BAD SIGN! I was expecting my order to be $13.95 (pre tax) and when I arrived, I was being charged $18.45 (pre tax). They overcharged each dish and I had to show them a photo of the menu with prices I previously found online. After an exhaustive dispute, I was charged the cheaper (and original) price I found online. Once I got home and opened up the peanut chicken, I was amazed to see a watery soup like "peanut" substance with soggy cabbage overpowering the entire container. The dish had maybe 5 small pieces of chicken and all of the vegetables/chicken were extremely bland and basically inedible. I should add that the entire container was about half filled in terms of contents. I've been to Thailand and I've had tons of Thai food in North America, and this is by far my worst experience with "Thai" food I've ever had. I should also add that I very seldom write reviews for a restaurant unless its absolutely amazing or absolutely horrible. This place deserves 0 stars and no one should go here. A very unobtrusive cafe style place in an inner mall section of Banff. I'm no Thai cuisine expert but we had two Pad Thais and a couple of Red Curry dishes and there wasn't a thing left in the bowls when we were done. Was very flavourful and didn't seem to have the watery noodle issue someone else mentioned. Would definitely go back. Just don't blink or you'll miss it. Oh, and I tried the Singha Thai beer too - very refreshing indeed, especially after hiking down from the summit of Sulphur mountain. read more

I think this is a great Thai restaurant for Banf. If this was in a bigger city, I would probably take away a star but considering the high price and low variety of the city, I think this is a wonderful alternative. The food is thai/asian fusion. There are definitely your favorites like pad se ew, but there also a couple of other dishes that might be hold overs from when the restaurant was a different style of asian food. Al-in-all though, the price was excellent (dinner for two about $20), and the ingredients were fresh. Everything was well made and although I wasn't overwhelmed with flavor I enjoyed my meal and I enjoyed my left overs. We stopped by about a month ago, so I can't remember exactly what I ordered (which probably says something) but I did remember leaving satisfied. Blaaaaaand food with very bad service. I was not a fan of this Thai food and I wished I had gone somewhere else. The restaurant is very small and also in a tiny mall type area. They seated us in the hallway of the mall, which was very uncomfortable as people were continuously trying to get through. The waitress was very fussy because we were a big group and it seemed like she was the only was working. She was constantly trying to rush us to order when we clearly said we aren't ready. We ordered everything vegetarian and the food from appetizers to dinner was all bland. All of the sauces for the food tasted the same and it was overall not a very good dinner experience. Banff has so many more restaurants that look much much better and I would recommend people go there instead of pad Thai. read more

Terrible restaurant. So not come here! I ordered the pad thai, their namesake dish, which was terrible- sauce was all wrong and tasted nothing like pad thai. Came with 3 shrimp, which tasted dry and old (probably were frozen) which had an up charge. They forgot my husband's order, so he had to place it again... took 30 minutes because they ran out of rice... waiters don't speak English. Did not understand that table needs to be cleared when bringing out more food. Gratuity is included automatically so it's not possible to adjust tip to penalize terrible service! Update: the restaurant owner came to our table to ask how the food was. I said honestly that the pad thai was terrible and not how pad thai should be. He, to my surprise, acknowledged all of this, and explained that they put some non standard (cloyingly sweet) sauce because "westerners don't usually like the fish sauce that is supposed to go in the dish". Um, isn't this racial profiling?? I was thinking the least the staff could do is take off the pad thai from our dish. They did take off something... a grand total of $2.25!!! You'd think a restaurant with the words Pad Thai in the name would AT LEAST get their Pad Thai dish on point. Silly me. That's what I presumed when searching for Thai food in this tiny mountain town. Sure, getting legit Thai ingredients shipped overseas and along the Trans Canada highway would be a logistical nightmare, but that's one of the benefits of having a restaurant in Banff Canada - people expect to pay a premium to be in a premium environment. I skipped gleefully down the sidewalk toward my awaiting takeout dish as passersby gave furtive stares of disapproval. Upon arrival, I learned this location was in an indoor strip mall that smelled oddly like a thrift store I had once made the mistake of entering back in Boulder, Colorado. This should have been my first red flag. Yet the promise of Pad Thai combined with an empty stomach kept my legs moving in the direction of the fake gold decor. I quickly paid for the dish and returned to my temporary home. The take out box felt decently heavy - a good sign for a hungry man. I tore off the lid and cracked my knuckles in anticipation... yet as my middle finger cracked, and my eyes focused on the "food" in front of me, my heart sank. The golden, nutty, flavorful goodness that my palette was so used to when ordering Pad Thai had been replaced by a cold pile of what appeared to be Cup-O-Noodles with 3 semi-frozen broccoli crowns and a faded orange slice of carrot. The noodles were unsaturated and tasted of quite literally nothing, the "veggies" held no more dignity than their knockoff Chinese counterparts from next door, and I'm fairly certain I heard the chicken cluck something at me in Spanish. I was unable to finish the bountiful batch of disappointment, despite my attempts to flavor it up with everything from soy sauce to a local Scotch style ale. My hat's off to you, Pad Thai Restaurant, for deceiving enough people daily to keep your doors open. I'll give you a solid 2 stars simply for the fact that I got to see the mountains as I walked out of your doors of dismay. read more

we ordered salad rolls and panang with broccoli, peppers, onion, fried tofu. We order panang at all the Thai places we go to, it's our favorite dish. This was very good but different then our normal one- it was less coconut-peanut flavor and the broth was thinner, not saucy. But it was still good! They don't have brown rice but the jasmine rice was very nice. Service was good. Salad rolls did not have herbs but had lettuce? A tiny bit of carrot, some cucumber and a lot of cellophane or other noodles. We order fresh rolls a lot too and we were disappointed that there was no cilantro, mint or basil in these. This little Thai restaurant used to be a Japanese or Korean Noodle house. It was our favorite place to get a hot bowl of soup before the drive back to Calgary after a day on the hills. Was here for dinner recently and it was pretty good. We had two curries, two pad thais (one regular, one gluten free) and the spring rolls. Everything was pretty decent and the spring rolls were very good. The pad thais were tasty, good-sized portions, though not a lot of meat. The gluten free version wasn't as sweet and tasted more of fish sauce. Prices aren't cheap but are reasonable compared to everything else in town. It's a small family run restaurant so service can be a little slow. Get there early because they close at 8. read more
