We went here on a whim on our way out of Canmore, and I can't say we enjoyed it much. We ordered beef udon, shrimp tempura, and some nigiri. The toro nigiri barely tastes like anything and the unagi was normal tasting, nothing special. The shrimp tempura was fine as well but I wouldn't say it was anything great. The beef udon was not good and the beef was insanely tough, making the soup completely not worth eating. I don't recommend this place but it's not terrible. I dont think I'll return. read more

this was hands down one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. First off, this place is completely unfriendly to families or anyone with kids. We were treated like an inconvenience the moment we walked in. The atmosphere was cold and uncomfortable. The sushi was stale, borderline inedible--and when we tried to politely mention it, the owner (a woman) became extremely rude and offensive, making it clear that customer feedback is not welcome here. She showed zero respect, and instead of addressing our concern, she responded with attitude and aggression. This is not just a bad restaurant--it's a place that leaves you feeling frustrated and disrespected. There are plenty of amazing restaurants in Canmore, but this is absolutely not one of them. Delectable. Phenomenal. A masterpiece. These are but a few words I would use to describe the Korean food at Mii Sushi & BBQ. In a land with a dearth of quality Asian food, this establishment rises like cream to the top. After a long day basking in the glory of Banff, we arrived at the plaza to grab some Thai food next door; however, we had arrived too late, so we decided to head over to Mii. Little did we know, the Lord had intervened on that very day to guide us to an unknown food haven. Upon entering, I was skeptical. Asian restaurants specializing in multiple cuisines are often masters of none, but I needed proper sustenance and rejuvenation after a disappointing meal in Banff. I ordered the Kalbi Tang, hoping for a sliver of the taste I had come to remember back home in New York. When the dish finally arrived, I spooned a tiny portion into my mouth, careful to maintain my expectations. My mouth dropped and the soup almost spilled out. It was one of the best Kalbi Tangs I've had in my life. Little did I know, in this small town of Canmore, I had discovered a restaurant serving fantastically authentic Korean food. The soup was finished in 10 minutes, with every scalding scoop of soup quickly ingested, and each perfectly succulent, marbled piece of kalbi happily swimming in my mouth. You bet I came back the next day and ordered the kimchi jiggae, which, to my delight, was also incredible. I had, again, ate an incredibly mediocre meal in Banff, and needed a real meal to heal my soul. Mii did it again. I was saved and my scarred feet from the meters (we're no longer in America) of hiking no longer ached. Life comes at you in weird ways. It was a cruel summer, but the Lord redeems in miraculous ways, and Mii Sushi & BBQ was certainly one of them. Ordinarily, I would write reviews about the unsavory places I had eaten in Banff, but this week was a happy one, with a stomach full of undoubtedly the best Korean food in the Canmore / Banff area. It was no wonder a tour bus full of Koreans pulled up to eat at this fine establishment. To Mii: keep doing what you're doing and give my compliments to the chef. You truly made this trip that much better by serving food worthy of a Michelin Star consideration (relative to the dining scene here), and that is noteworthy to say the least. Kudos to you read more

GET THE KALBI! It was really good! Run by Koreans, so you know the food is really good. Just note that they might be short staffed and when we went we we're told that there was a 30 minute wait for food at 6pm on a Sunday. We overheard that there was a 50 minute wait for food whether it was sitting in or taking out later on and we're told that they were shortstaff OK. Regardless, I really appreciated the service and taste of the food! We ordered a couple and Unagi rolls, Bulgogi, galbi, soondubu, house salad and ramen for 5 very hungry girls. We came here for dinner, and fortunately took Yelper recommendations by ordering mostly Korean dishes and avoiding most of the sushi. Everything came out sizzling, though service was a bit slow. In order from most to least favorite dishes: The best dish we ordered was the Hot Stone Bibimbap. It had a good kick to it, and there was crispy rice at the bottom of the wok. Everything was tasty and fresh! The Bul Go Gi had a really savory and tasty flavor, and was super tender, but it didn't seem super fresh. It was still good, but a better sear/quality of meat and less salt would make it even better haha. The Chicken Yakisoba was pretty good and the portion was large, but there was an overwhelming smoky-ish flavor to it, and the chicken was salty. I did appreciate that there was a good amount of vegetables though. The Spicy Tofu Soup was a disappointment-the tofu was completely broken and the seafood did not taste fresh AT ALL. The Canmore Bento Box was the only sushi item we ordered-and as expected, the sashimi did not taste fresh. Canmore has limited dining options, so this was alright, but I do not think we would come back. read more

This place is so good! We weren't expecting much, due to it being a small town. We came in, were told right away it'd be 30 mins before we'd get our order, which was fine, were seated immediately and got drinks right away. They came back 6-7 mins later to take our order. I ordered seafood sunomono & sashimi combo, he ordered spicy chirashi. A few minutes later, they brought out miso soup, and it was really good. It was maybe 15 minutes before we got our food, and let me tell you, the fish was buttery & fresh, not old at all. The seafood sunomono had great taste & texture. I went here for sushi while visiting Banff National Park. It was okay. The nigiri was good, as was the seaweed salad. I got the spider roll and a roll with tempura shrimp in it. Both the crab and shrimp were fried, but raw inside. They flash fried them both, but not long enough. The batter wasn't very crispy either. Both owners came to greet me. They have become like family. The staff are always polite and attentive. I even have my own table as I am a regular here. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and always clean and sanitary. I was debating on having one of their z Korean dishes which are always good but Japanese won out tonight. For a Thursday night at 8:00pm it is still pretty busy. The restaurant is about a 1/3 full which is good for this time of year before Christmas rush. Absolutely delicious read more

Fine if you are needing warm comfort food. Don't get the spicy tuna. The fish tasted off. I didn't get sick though, so no harm, no foul. The ramen broth, while not offensive at all, was not like good ramen. But it had a reasonably nice flavor. I had the miso beef. My girl had the tonkatsu beef. She was disappointed that there were no thin slices of pork. I missed the soft egg. The vegetable in the ramen was a broccoli floret. That was odd and did not complement the dish. The beef was chopped and had a sweet quality to it. Perhaps it was Korean. It was quite unexpected in ramen. Service was wonderful! Our booth smelled like pine-sol. I think 3 stars is a great achievement, as the food and service we received was not comparable to other asian restaurants we have seen on our trip from Vancouver to Calgary. We ordered starters, main causes and drinks (beer and cranberry juice). The starters arrived just before the main cause, there was no chance to get the starter finished before the main cause arrived. The food itself was average. The cranberry juice came in a tin and we did not get any water offered, even other tables did. The service was just about ok. We are so pleased with this place. The salmon, tuna and amaebi nijiri were great. They were super busy (probably because they are such a tasty restaurant) so our service was lacking at first... but they slowed down and the service was great. We stopped into this restaurant on our way to Banff. When we arrived the restaurant was very busy and waited a few minutes before we were greeted and seated. There was a sign at the front door to please wait to be seated. The waitress and manager warned us that the food would be half an hour and if it would be okay, we waited only fifteen minutes for our food and I must say it was delicious! The waitress was quite busy so I can't fault her on her service as we had to wait a little bit on our bill. We had their bibimbap, California roll, tuna/salmon nigiri, short rib beef soup, more sushi rolls, and finally, their spicy tofu soup (without the seafood). EVERY SINGLE DISHE WAS AMAAAAAAAZING!!! Being a Seattleite, we have access to fresh fish daily, so we know good fish when we see/taste it. Their tuna and salmon nigiri melted in my mouth. I've never had this experience with my favorite sushi joints in WA. It was an amazing! I've never been to Japan, but I can imagine somehow that's how their sushi would taste like.
