Bento Box special - 3 items from a list (you can choose from different types of sushi), comes with miso soup and small salad
Sel Z.

Sushi Bistro is ideal if you happen to be craving for sushi in Banff. The location is conveniently right in the middle of downtown Banff. The menu is quite limited, but it has most of the basics. When I went, they had a Bento Box special where you can choose 3 items from a list (different sushi rolls, salmon & tuna sashimi, takoyaki, gyoza, edamame, etc.), and they come with miso soup and salad. The miso soup contains actual vegetable chunks (mostly chopped up onions) and the small salad is a combination of regular lettuce / green salad and a bit of seaweed salad. They do a good job with social distancing inside the restaurant, with tables spread apart. I also saw the waitress sanitizing the menus by wiping them down after each use. There is also an outdoor patio seating area right in front of the restaurant.

Here for a conference and just needed a break from the crowd. Still not used to it since Covid. Taking a leisure stroll on Banff ave and saw a sign so decided to give it a try. Ordered salmon sashimi, spicy tuna hand roll, shrimp and asparagus tempura. I'm not really ordering anything fancy so it's going to be all about freshness. It is Banff after all - nowhere any body of salt water...... It's just me and a friend so we sat at the sushi bar and watch all the action. They were very busy with takeout order (7:30pm Sunday) so took about 10 min for my food to come. All good. Sashimi - anytime the sashimi comes as thin slices it already score high for me = good knife skills and fresh ingredients. And it was yummy. Tip: ask for low sodium soy sauce. The tempura was only ok - the batter not as fluffy as I would like. So average. Goal of a simple dinner when one need a break from the bison, elk, caribou and beef.....check.

this was our first dinner on our five day vacation in Banff this was also our first time ever in Canada and having Canadian sushi versus USA sushi. absolutely delicious could not possibly recommend it any further the service was so kind and genuinely nice to us. we got several different types of sushi rolls Ramen udon and one of those Donburi bowls. The food was so delicious and also for a pretty good price. our seating was pretty cool we got the couch table which is literally an actual couch and arm chairs with a coffee table. it was very comfy to sit back once we were very full! next time I come back here I'm definitely hitting this spot up again.

Veggie Tempura - Fried well, and veggies still retained flavors and texture (5 stars)

Quality sushi in downtown Banff? A city that's landlocked , situated within a huge national park, and surrounded by mountains? Yes, I was definitely surprised too. We randomly stopped by for a light lunch prior to stocking up groceries. The restaurant shares space with a tea store. They have menus with pictures and calorie counts on sushi(!). Its order by menu similar to a dim sum menu. Another thing that was somewhat unusual was that the sushi chef was a woman! Women sushi chefs are rare, as written by Trevor Corson's Zen of Fish: The Story of Sushi. BTW: Excellent read! We liked most of the things we ordered, so 4 stars overall, especially nigiri and tempura. Veggie Tempura: Fried perfectly and the veggies (asparagus, yams, broccoli) all retained some texture and didn't turn mushy. Just enough tempura breading to complement, and not overwhelm. 5 stars Sushi: I got tako, yellowtail, saba, unagi, and salmon for nigiri (2 per order) along with some eel-avocado rolls. The rice was soft, seasoned, and loosely packed so it falls apart upon the first bite. Fish toppings were fresh too. 4 stars. Ramen: It was a shoyu-based broth with basic pork slices and standard chewy noodles. Pretty basic but not much fixins like eggs, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, etc. 3 stars.

One of the best sushi experiences I've ever had! The food and service was beyond wonderful. I had the sweet omelette nigiri and white tuna nigiri. Coming from having a Japanese relative I quickly could tell that the menu is authentic. Our waiter offered us free sake for our birthday. He was very helpful and made our night. I ordered the eel roll and a specialty roll. Everything that we ordered was delicious and fresh. 10/10 recommend.

This is your tipical sushi bar... Good sushi, good prices and easy going. I liked it a lot try it it's good for a casual dinner. The best is the octopus carpaccio!!!

(Vegetarian) Cold udon

Amazing food! My family and I are vegetarians, so finding restaurants that can accommodate us is so much harder than it should be. Finding a sushi place that offers to change their cutting boards in order to avoid cross contamination... we were blown away!! Their service was fast, friendly, and extremely helpful. Their food... even better. The cold udon was out of this world. Their yam tempura avocado sushi was so good we ended up ordering 5 plates for dinner and 7 more for takeout tomorrow. Sorely going to miss this place once we get back home...

Shredded with MSC, got wasted, ended up in Sushi Bistro. Best sushi in the town of Banff! Good prices and portions are decent.

Food tasted amazing & great service; however, the spicy tuna roll gave my boyfriend food poisoning so be cautious.

Good sushi, clean, very polite service, good prices. We are spoiled with really amazing sushi in California, hence my shortage of stars.

Lets get to the food shall we * Karaage - Texture is on point. Crisp is nice and light. Lemon compliments the chicken pieces. 8.7/10   * Takoyaki - The temperature is super correct. It has to be below molten lava levels. The flavors are good to go. 9/10   * Shoyu Ramen (Ramen of the Day) - let's get the egg out of the way. Its a little overdone. But the whole this is really good. Noodles are bouncy, pork is tender and the broth is on point. 8.6/10 The setting is very nice. Things we tried: - Agedashi Tofu: fried tofu with a warm dashi. It was light and the dashi had nice flavor. (3.5/5 stars) - Karaage Chicken: the chicken was tender and well-seasoned. (3.5/5 stars) - Edamame: the edamame arrived at the end of our meal which was odd. It was also not cooked well and tasted like it could have been frozen and then warmed up. Disappointing. (1/5 stars) - Shoku Roll: the roll was pretty good with the salmon on top and negitoro inside. I wish they used less of the sauce and mayo on top or put it on the side instead, because it was a lot and was overpowering the fish. (4/5 stars) - Salmon Oyako Bowl: I liked the raw salmon and salmon roe part, however the cooked salmon was overcooked. The bowl also lacked flavor and required soy sauce, though I wish there was a different sauce to add to it. (4/5 stars) Overall for the food, it's okay. I'm from California so we have better food so I'm trying not to be too critical knowing it's in Banff. It's nice to have an izakaya spot in downtown Banff though. Service: mixed. The waiter was nice, however they seemed under-staffed. He had too many tables so service was slow and we struggled with flagging him down when we needed a refill or the check.

One roll had perfectly grilled pieces on top with avocado that added a nice smoky flavor, while the other had a great crunchy texture that balanced everything out really well. I also ordered what I believe was a matcha drink, and it paired perfectly with the meal. It was smooth, refreshing, and a nice contrast to the richness of the sushi. Everything tasted high quality and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and the whole place had a great vibe. Definitely a spot worth checking out if you're in Banff and craving good sushi and a solid matcha drink. Service was great. But a little slow

Karaoke rooms available for large groups with high minimum spends. However, when it comes to the food, I've got issues. The happy hour menu boasts several discounted (half price) sushi rolls, which sound great. However, in execution, they are flooded with mayonnaise (not included in the menu's ingredients). This adds so much extra salt and oil to the sushi that it drowns out the true flavor of the fish. For the first time in my life, I couldn't finish my sushi, and I had no desire to eat any leftovers. Also, reservations are not required, but they definitely help (and require a credit card reservation). If you show up for happy hour, get there early, becasue the space fills up fast!

I ordered the Thai tom yum noodle soup, and my husband got the beef soup. If you're looking for authentic Thai tom yum, this isn't it--it's more like tom yum broth with noodles added, which is different from traditional tom yum noodle soup. That said, it was still good enough for me. My husband thought the beef soup was just okay. The staff was nice and friendly. Overall, it's a solid and convenient stop, but not a must-visit for me.

Very friendly, very cozy, and food came out almost immediately since it was a late lunch time. Service was spot on. They have a good choice of food. Not the usual big serving, it was enough for one person and I like that it was not very salty and just enough seasoning/spice. The Ube croquetas was a good surprise, the Ube itself was almost tasteless but combined with the breaded coating made it hard to put down. The takoyaki was pleasantly good, came out immediately after it was cooked. I recommend that as well. A very good place to enjoy warm soup and what looked like a family owned business. Check them out!
