We were hiking and site seeing late in the day and didn't get back to Banff until 8:30pm. This place closes at 9pm so we called to see if we could still get in. They indicated as long as we were seated and ordered before 8:45pm, we would be ok so we headed up to the Silver Dragon. We ordered dumplings, fried rice, and an egg roll. The food came out quickly. There were two other tables finishing up so we didn't feel too rushed, although staff was clearly cleaning up to get ready to go home. We loved the rice and the dumplings were excellent. I wasn't as big a fan of the egg roll (loved the inside but didn't like the batter outside as much) but I liked the sauce that came with it. Portions were generous. The place was cutely decorated. Parking was easy but I could see parking being a bit of an issue on a really busy day. We were so grateful they could accommodate us so late. Hiking made us hungry! read more

Ambiance: 3/5 stars, your typical Chinese restaurant vibe. Nothing special that stands out. Service: 5/5 stars, our waiter (I believe his name was Sam) was very personable and funny. While the food did take a while to prepare (we did have a party of 8 and the dishes were cooked to all come out at once), Sam did come and check in with us. My family and I spoke Cantonese with him and he made turned our experience waiting into an entertaining banter session. Food: 4/5 stars. Coming from Southern California and eating tons of Chinese/Cantonese dishes growing up, Silver Dragon's food is solid on the authentic end. They do have some dishes that cater to more western tastes, based on what we saw on the menu, but if you're looking for authentic Chinese food in Banff this place surprisingly fulfilled that craving! Was really surprised to find good, authentic Chinese food in Banff. I had the 1 person set meal, and it was such a great deal too! It came w hot and sour soup, spring roll (w real duck sauce), ginger beef, and sautéed mixed vegetables. I hadn't had vegetables in days due to eating a lot of meat and carbs, so this was much welcomed! The proportions were smaller, but it was perfect bc I was heading straight to the airport afterwards and couldn't carry leftovers anyways. I found out from the owner, that they also own the Silver Dragon in Calgary-but to me, this was so much better. Great location and ambience. We were touring my dad around Banff Village and after the Bow River falls view point, we were starving. It was hard to miss Silver Dragon because it has such a prime location right after the bridge. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that it isn't a tourist trap and they truly serve delicious and authentic Chinese food in Banff Village. My dad and I love Peking Duck so we got 1/2 duck to share. We loved it and it brought me back to our trip to Beijing where we had Peking Duck. We also ordered their special fried rice and lemon chicken. Service was prompt and friendly. Restaurant was full but didn't feel rushed. Ambiance is your typical Chinese resto with private rooms. We decided to try Chinese food in Banff on our recent road trip. It's a great choice. We had the combination A and the vegetable chow mein. Combination 1: Hot & sour soup - great flavor Wonton soup - great with real wontons Combination 1: Egg/spring roll - Fresh ingredients with a shrimp for a pleasant surprise Combination 1: Ginger beef - it is not what I expected as Cantonese ginger beef. It's more similar to the orange beef found in Americanized Chinese food. Nonetheless, it's well cooked and nicely flavored. Sweet & Sour chicken balls - The sweet & sour flavor is well balanced and the chicken balls have a nice texture. Mixed vegetables - quality ingredients to make up this dish. Vegetable chow mein - slightly crispy noodles with fresh vegetables. Finally, I appreciate the quality of the ingredients and the knifing skills of the chefs. I didn't expect to find an authentic Chinese restaurant in Banff, but there it was! The owner was really nice and personable - helped our family host 2 nights of 20 & 30 people reunions respectively. One night was a banquet meal - most of the food was authentic and cooked really well. The second night was regular ordering and also very good. I'm really wanted to give this place a 3 stars but opted to give them 4 stars at the end. Business is hard now days for some local owners. We got two items to go and asked for two extra forks on top of the two chopsticks they gave but was told by the woman that she would have to charge extra. What a turn off really. I have never had a business that wanted to charge extra for two extra forks. Honestly just lame and incredibly cheap. We ordered the chicken and black bean sauce and the beef chow fun and honestly both items were pretty delicious. I was surprised by this given we were in a touristy town. When we were there waiting for our take out, there were a big group of Chinese people. So that really tells you that their food is pretty legit. Customer's BEWARE!!! They add a 15% service charge (even with our party of two) without clearly informing the customer. They're more thoughtful about telling you they'll charge you 10 cents for take out containers than they are about this service charge. They probably mention this on the menu in size 2 font. And the service was bad, not once did our server bother to come by and check on us. Food was good but it's probably the most I've ever paid for Chinese food entrees, which makes the service charge even more enraging. read more

Chinese food in Banff, Alberta? Our tour bus drove past this place on our way to Fairmont Banff Springs Castle. All by itself surrounded by the vast greenery of government buildings across the street, very close to the Bow Bridge leading to downtown Banff. Closest restaurant to our hotel, other than the super expensive tourist trap hotel restaurants on the premises. 15 minute walk on sidewalks down a park like setting. Looks like a Chinese restaurant, with gold and red carved dragon décor. Should have know something was fishy when I saw parking on the side of the restaurant, with a tour bus parked. Wife and I went inside, and found the first six tables of 10 seats occupied by Chinese. Chinese in a Chinese restaurant is a good thing, right? You guessed it -just another Chinese bus tour group looking for a place to disembark 57 tourists hungry for food from the homeland. We are seated immediately, as even with six large tables filled, most of the restaurant is empty. Service is excellent, with water and menu given to us. We order the meal for two, with soup, appetizers and two entrees for $48 CAD. Won ton soup comes first, with minimal waiting, with 4 won tons full of pork in each cup. The spring roll appetizer comes second, and is not too greasy, and full of vegetables and shrimp, with an orange dipping sauce . The last dishes are the fried rice, the ginger beef and chicken with mixed vegetables. The ginger beef is coated with a layer of bread, mixed in with sugar, with relatively little beef. The beef was overcooked and on the tough side. Huge portion, that I could not finish, as wife concentrated on the chicken dish. The fried rice came with 4 shrimp, besides the usual diced vegetables, such as carrots and peas. Moist, and not over cooked. The chicken with mixed vegetables, comes with slices of chicken breast in a chicken broth sauce to keep it moist, broccoli, carrots and bok choy, and is well presented. It is the highlight of the meal. Two other couples, both white, came in after us, saw what I had ordered, and assumed it must be good as an old Chinese fart ordered it. So they ordered it, not realizing that this was a Chinese guy born in California, who prefers American Chinese food. This is one of the rare restaurants with far more Tripadvisor reviews(356) than Yelp reviews (50), as tour companies with older wealthier tourists are the primary visitors to this restaurant, the demographic catering to TripAdvisor. So just because you see a lot of Chinese in a Chinese restaurant doesn't mean it is good, as it is the only game in town. read more

Not bad for this area. Of the several national parks I've visited, Banff is the clear winner in having the worst Chinese and other Asian foods. This restaurant is centrally located (next to Cascade Garden) but that's about the only positive. The food is mediocre but the price is not. Overall, every Asian restaurant I've tried in Banff and Canmore are average to below average and this one is no exception. If you're from L.A., you probably won't like this place but there's no need to search for better alternatives because I doubt they exist. read more

They had a set price for a party of 10 which came with an a la carte of dishes and appetizer. It came out to be almost $20-28 per person. When you enter, you will see a "2018 Best of Yelp" award on the table (voted #1 Chinese restaurant in Banff, Alberta and #1 most reviewed). **private free parking lot (must register vehicle model, color and license plate number upon entering restaurant or else your vehicle might get towed) Everything we ordered was quite good. We couldn't find any reason to complain. Customer service was good as well. Our waiter even took photos of our group for us. My only suggestion is that I wish there was WiFi. This Chinese restaurant has similar name with the restaurant in Calgary. The restaurant is well decorated. It can hold large party like tour bus group. It is located on the hill with good view. We were show our seat quickly. They have show the expensive menu first until we ask for their lunch special menu. We have order the Siu Mai to start. I also order the beef with rice noodle. And grace for the chicken with the black bean sauce. I like the accompany wonton soup. Somehow the Canadian has the better wonton soup than Tampa due to the use of material, marinated ground pork and wonton skin. Our Siu Mai is good in our standard. It come with 4 pieces in $6 CAD. It a bit expensive but it worthies to try. The beef rice noodle is above average. The lunch special is $13 CAD. I like the black bean sauce chicken. It has better stir fried technique.
