Blackie's - American Near Me - Smithfield, Rhode Island

Blackie's is a really unique restaurant in Smithfield. I love visiting a few times a year because they switch up their menu pretty frequently. The service and food has always been good. Some of my personal favorites are the junkyard nachos, eggplant grilled cheese and Home made chips. We just tried the cheeseburger Rangoons at this visit and they were sooo good!!!! Some things to keep in mind for your dining: -- The parking gets TIGHT here since it's so popular so be prepared to potentially park on the road and walk. -- sometimes the wait can be pretty long especially for a large party so call ahead -- there is an upstairs room available for parties -- the bar area is relatively spacious, but you have to get through the people to get to the women's restroom read more

Great venue for private event! Food exceeded my expectations and everyone raved. The staff are so attentive, kind and personable. Thank you for making a special event perfect! read more

This place is a gem! The food was delicious big portions and very flavorful. The nachos were huge and delicious with a soft cheese all over them. I had a hamburger it was so good. The place was packed and now I know why because the food was so delicious. The wait staff was very attentive always at the table refilling drinks even though they were so busy. I have to say this is a great place and I will definitely return. I've heard a lot about it and I've always wanted to try and I'm very glad I did. These different sources which are so delicious and all of their dishes. Kudos to them delicious food great waitstaff and a fun place to eat! Full bar and plenty of parking. read more

Bartenders were very nice just not very attentive. Cocktails pricey with little alcohol. Smashed burger dried out. Ambiance looked great but was very disappointed in service and quality . read more

Was very excited to come here for the first time. The parking lot fills up way before their tables do... so you might have a hard time even getting inside. Once inside, the place is nicer than you'd expect. We were seated in the middle of the dining area. The place was incredibly loud, especially so because a large table flanks the far wall and nearly amplifies the loud shouts and conversation, drowning out anything you hoped to say. They'd be well served to try to put some baffling element on that wall so not everybody has to hear the conversation of that one table. The ambient noise was so loud we didn't even realize there was live music in the bar until we left! Our waitress was terribly sweet, but not on her game. I didn't even get a chance to ask for a second beer after my wife had asked for hers, she was gone so fast. She also didn't ask how we wanted our burgers cooked, which I thought odd. Even so, the burger was awesome. All in all though, not sure if I'd come back. As a P.S., I was wondering for the last two hours what I was smelling... I have a large stain on my right shoulder... it's sloshed seafood juice from a waitress passing by. read more

Blackie's has quickly become our favorite family restaurant. The menu is awesome, service is great and now I see that it is a woman owned business. What's not to love? The pastrami or short rib sandwich is to die for. Burgers are great and it's a paleo or whole 30 paradise. Great for everyone. read more

Service was bad...took to long for food to come out. Prices are much higher then their initial restaurant. Coffee was served after dinner cold no one even came to ask how a food was will never be going to the new Blackie's unfortunately. Should have stuck with what you had read more

Hosted a company holiday party last night. We ordered appetizers and then "entree" buffet stations. Much to our dissatisfaction, members of our group left hungry due to not having enough food, which was very embarrassing. Management did nothing to compensate. When the complaint was filed, management stated that "entree"s were intended to be a "sampling" not a full dinner portion, which is misleading. In addition to not having enough food, the ratio of protein to vegetable in the entree selections was not adequate. There was an overabundance of vegetable and not enough protein, which is not surprising because of course, any protein source is more expensive than a vegetable. Management acknowledged the ratio complaint, but proceeded to justify how the food selection and quantity were handled and did so in a passive aggressive manner. Customer service and customer satisfaction are clearly not a priority in this establishment. Additionally, in correspondence with management, cultural norms were inappropriately used to justify decisions made upon managment. Needless to say, we will not be visiting this establishment for personal or professional dining in the future. read more

So you order take out that has an estimated time of pick up of an 1hr, fine, then you arrive at your pick up time and you wait an additional 30 minutes. To receive cold food. Does this make any sense? No it doesn't. Very disappointed read more

Best burger in Smithfield that is cooked and prepared perfectly to your expectations. Appetizers and other dishes are good as well. Highly recommend coming here if you're in the Smithfield & Bryant area. read more

Very comfortable environment, for families and anyone. Super busy lunch crowd but there was plenty of seating and we had a table in less than a minute. They brought over a high chair flipped upside down for our baby car seat. It was so nice that the bottom of it was clean. In most restaurants the bottoms of high chairs are disgusting even though they know the "trick". Knowing that attention is placed on small details like that gives you trust that the food is equally as clean. On the food: so many vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, paleo and keto options. And it isn't annoying to the waitress as they are obviously trained and prepared to accommodate. Lovely staff from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. I had the white pizza which was veggies and ricotta and it was delicious - I always need salt and pepper on pizza but I didn't need to add anything to this. My husband had the smoked turkey club and held the mayo - he said it was fabulous even without it. Nice big beer menu and wine menu. We had a couple of Sam Ocotoberfests cuz it's October after all. I'd be happy to come back here any time! read more

Walk in and you will be pleasantly surprised ! Beautiful decor ! Very pleasant and accommodating staff. Great choices on menu. We enjoyed the chicken saltimbocca served over fresh greens and a generous portion of their turkey club . This restaurant has a Separate, extensive, and very impressive gluten free and paleo menu!!!! The drinks were delicious . I tried a rum Coquito made with the perfect ratio of liquors and nutmeg spice! Some items somewhat pricey but well worth the difference in price. Local farm fresh ingredients are used on many of the entrees. Presentation was appealing as well. Thank you ladies for taking pride in this gem! I will definitely return! read more

So disappointed w the quality of the food and the ridiculously high prices for subpar food. My coworker and I decided to go to lunch between classes we work right down the street. We order a "deconstructed" nim chow salad. She orders shrimp w hers I order salmon. And we order to cold brew coffees. Our salads consisted of finely chopped iceberg lettuce with noodles in it. The dressing tasted like rice vinegar. The salmon was good. My friend had 4 small shrimp. 2 salads. 2 cold brews. Our bill came it was 64.00. Please understand something. I love good food, had it been worth this price no complaints but seriously it wasn't worth the drive or the time. Too bad. I should have ordered the tacos. I love nimchow. This was far from nim chow. read more

Order the pink vodka pizza and could barely taste the sauce so I kindly asked the server for a side of the sauce... which after years of working in the service industry and years of eating out is not a weird thing to do... however my server returned and said "sorry the chef said you can't have a side of that sauce"... I almost busted out into laughter because I've truly never heard of such a thing and I would have gladly accepted an additional charge as well. Safe to say this place has very bizarre tendencies read more

Came here once and since Covid I've back. Definitely worth the wait. We had Isabelle A as our server. She was absolutely amazing, attentive, recommendations were spot on and overall experience was fantastic! If I could give more than 5 stars I would! We will be back again! read more

I used to go to Blackie's all the time in the old location. We were regular customers for years. They never took reservations, you had to download an app to find out the wait time, so it never occurred to me that things would be different at the new location. I follow their Facebook page religiously for news, and there was no mention at all about their change in their system. I looked at the app and it didn't seem to be working (but that was common, the app had issues from time to time). Showed up looking for a table, and was rudely told by the young hostess that I didn't have a reservation and those were priority. I couldn't get a table until 8:30, and this was 5. So, we decided to sit in the bar area, but unless you're literally sitting at the bar, the tables in the bar area are reservation also. Eventually sat at the bar and got pretty meh service from the bartender. We were never checked on and we always had to get her attention for everything we needed. Not sure if I'll frequent Blackie's like I used to. read more

Awesome food, pricing a little high, a little too fancy for traditional bar and grill setting. Casual mid to high end. I get it that you have some things you want as you make them but don't tell me on the menu "no adjustments or substitutions" I'm sorry if I don't like one said item in your sandwich but it turned me off. Your in smithfield near a collage. Fidelity is high end and need a few of the lower dollar simpler items from when you started!!! Overall awesome food, just dig deep $30 for 2 sandwiches and sodas for lunch is a bit much read more

It's impossible to get on the phone with a hostess - they force you to download their app to find out the wait time. Meanwhile, it says "No Wait". Instead, there's actually a 90 minute wait but they lie to you until you're within a certain radius of the restaurant. This is misleading, you are lying to your customers by saying there is no wait. read more

The food was amazing. It did take a while to get our food, so if your in a rush don't go here (they do play nice music) would recommend

Really like it here. Be warned it can get busy at a moments notice. Had chicken tenders with the root beer hoisin sauce and it was great. Also had their steak and cheese on the onion focaccia which was pretty delicious as well. read more

I went to Blackie's last night and their new location is absolutely stunning! They have 2 wood fired pizza ovens, that turn out some of the best veggie pizza I've ever had! After the social media advertisements my mother in law wanted to try the Blackie's . I called in and made a reservation for party 3 at 630pm on a Wednesday night. We checked in at 630 and couldn't get into our table almost 7pm. The menus is kind a complicated but we find what we want. We order bunch of drinks and hummus plater for starters. The drinks was good and hummus plater was a great start for the dinner. I order Steak Diane and ribeye was right on temp and I Don't know why I was getting bacon flavor on the dish. I don't eat bacon so I didn't touch the rest of the food but I ate the ribeye. Sorry I was starved. My mother in law order clean plate with side of Tuna. ($31) we received a plate and lots of lots of kale in the middle of the plate and little bit tuna. When we complain about the salad server said manager will be in the table shortly and she brought us side us quinoa, avocado and cucumber to finish the salad. My mother in law told her that I am all set with the salad thank you. This is where the story gets funny. Server told us again manager will be here shortly. Alright let's wait for manager. After 10 minutes later our server came and inform us that we would like to give you dessert on the house. We refused it and wanted to go home. When the bill came it was $175 and They took the salad off the bill and they charged us $15 side of tuna that my mother in law only ate 4 couple slices. I am sorry but if you made a mistake you fix it and don't shovel the tuna to the customers face. To the manager. You should work with your hospitality skills because you failed tonight. read more

The food is great, not only the taste but the presentation. I ordeted the tuna appetizer and the chicken sandwich. My Bloody Mary was excellent. The food was sooo good, made to order...this is why I am giving it 3 stars. The food deserves 5 stars really, but the service deserves none. The service was reallllly bad. They forgot about our table...not once, but twice!!! We sat by the bar, hightop table. We got our drinks and looked through the menu...20 minutes go by, noone was coming back. I tried to wave down a server but no luck. I went up to the bar and asked if we could order. A different server comes back to take our order. After he dropped off our appetizer I tried to ask for water but he walked away so quickly I couldn't get a word out. Again...he never came back. Another 20 minutes go by....again, I go up to the bar to ask for service. This time yet another server comes by...takes our order. Yet another server delivers it....I wanted to ask for salt and vinigar but the server just drops the plates and walks away, no word. I wave down a girl server to ask for water and a salt shaker. Again...noone comes back for another 20 minutes ....when I got a hold of a her we just asked for a bill and boxes because seriously at that point we have been there for over 2 hours and I wasn't sure when I could get a hold of a server again. The service ruined our first visit there...I am not sure if this was just a one off though, and I will try it again even if just for food and update. read more

Y'ALL. Yet another place that has me asking "Why did it take me so long to get here (other than being out in the boonies)?" I visited Blackie's with a group of six, and we went specifically to give the Paleo/GF menu a whirl. I'd describe my diet as approximately 80/20 Primal/frosting, so my forays into caveman cuisine generally end at baked chicken and steamed broccoli. *IF* you're looking for well-executed, flavorful, and inventive twists on an already innovative menu, then look no further! I had the Paleo Parmesan Bowl with Baffoni Farms chicken breast, sauteed eggplant rounds, and zucchini zoodles, topped with cashew mozzarella. Don't give me that side-eye, either...that cheese was excellent! My friends had the BBQ and Fajita Burger Bowls and were similarly satisfied. The consensus was: slightly expensive for the portion (~$20), very light on the seasoning, but overall, a refreshing take on standard GF/inclusive "menus". Blackie's also has a standard menu that (basically) mirrors the Paleo version, but it's just more fun, because carbs and actual dairy. The service was efficient, if a bit slow. This place was jamming! The ambience was decent. Nothing really stood out for me, and everything was clean and uncluttered. 6 of us ate and drank ( and lusted after the Junkyard nachos and towering burgers) for $185, plus tip. Not a shabby bill for an unexpectedly fun night in the sticks! read more

A hidden treasure of Rhode Island. The restaurant itself is on the small side and considering everyone else knows how good it is, expect a wait. They have a system that will text you when the table is ready which is really convenient. I'm sure that the wait is less when it's nice weather and they can use the patio. The food is really good! I suggest getting a burger or sandwich, something that has some of Blackie's house-made flavored mayonnaise. I usually get the brown sugar mayo, but they have a spicy and honey mayo too. I was impressed too with the beer selection on tap. Clean, modern, great atmosphere. I'll definitely be going back soon... Hopefully you won't be taking up a table after reading this review and causing a long wait! ;-) read more

The more I go to Blackie's, the more I like it. This place is one of Smithfield's greatest treasures. There's always a classy crowd of varying ages. The bar is beautiful and offers a wide selection of beverages. The food is always fresh and full flavored. They even have an alternate paleo diet menu. The staff is polite, accommodating, and charismatic. They have ample parking and a beautiful outdoor seating are. It is absolutely a must for all. I would definitely recommend the easy street corn, Asian tuna, prosciutto & fig flatbread, and the fish & chips. (Note: their fish is crusted with pretzel crumbs and they have the BEST tartar sauce). read more

My co-workers and I tried to go to Blackie's after work on a Friday. Understandably we were a large group of 9 and did not call to make a reservation. When I walked in the door to tell the hostess, she asked if we were drinking or eating. I said all of us were going to drink but not all of us would be eating. I was informed that ALL of us have to eat to sit in the dining room. So out of 9 people if 8 were going to eat, we still cant sit there! That's ridiculous! I was told we could only go to the bar. When I went to scope out the bar, there were 3 empty tables with a "Reserve" sign. I then asked a waitress what to do. I can't sit in the dining room, empty tables at the bar are full...so now what? She said I can go on a waiting list for the bar. So on a Friday night I'm not going to go on a waiting list for 9 people to sit at the bar. I don't think so. We ended up leaving and going down the street to The Last Resort. Not only are the waitresses at The Last Resort 100 times nicer than the hostesses at Blackie's, but they were very accommodating. The 2 hostesses at Blackie's were very rude and didn't try to help out the situation we were in. Just one of the many reasons I will never return! read more

We come here any time we go out after work at Fidelity but it's only because nothing else is around. It's hard to go there for just drinks since they don't let you sit at one of their many empty tables unless you're ordering dinner. I've never understood that since alcohol is a higher margin. The bar is small and only has about 15 seats or so. They almost act like it's an inconvenience to have you there and I guess in some ways it is since they make you stand in no man's land starring off at empty tables. I have had the food before and it's pretty good. May cause heartburn but it's the type of place that should. Interesting burger type food. If you come here you're likely a victim of circumstance like myself. The staff needs to up their game and be more accommodating. read more
