Sundays in the summer are made for days starting at the farmers market, followed by brunch. After seeing the long lines for food trucks, we decided a sit down restaurant experience would be a better place to catch up and talk. Bird was the restaurant of choice, and an okay one at that. SPACE: Located directly on Pearl Street, the restaurant can be easy to miss on busy farmer's market days. However, we spotted their patio and decided to take advantage. As luck would have it, the patio filled up fast, but the interior was open for dining. We were seated at a table by the windows - which opened like doors to let the cool breeze in. I was thankful, as the room was very hot inside. The interior is small, offering about 8 tables in the main dining space, a few tables upstairs, a massive bar top and the coveted outdoor patio. Formerly Black Pearl, the space has transformed into a shabby chic, country kitchen feel with southern vibes - which I'm all about!  SUSTENANCE: Known for their American comfort food with a creative twist, I was excited to see a menu. Offering breakfast all day, signature soups, salads, sandwiches and more - it was the breakfast that caught my eye. Although the menu is more limited on weekends (the menu online now is different than what was offered on Sunday), I opted for an order of the Bird Benedict which featured house cured prosciutto, arugula, poached eggs, drizzled with cantaloupe hollandaise on top a freshly baked baguette, with a side salad as opposed to hash browns. Mom ordered her favorite - the breakfast burrito, while my husband chose the Nashville Hot Fried Chicken sandwich and Dad decided on the BirdBlat - their take on the BLT with avocado, with a side of gazpacho. My benedict was well made and the eggs were perfection, however the baguette wasn't toasted so it immediately soaked up all the hollandaise creating a soggy mess. Mom thought her burrito was decent and my husband liked his fried chicken sandwich, minus the fact that his bun literally fell apart when attempting to eat it. He easily ate it with a fork and knife instead. Dad's meal took the longest to come out and just okay at that. However, the bacon was perfectly cooked and seasoned! The menu also features happy hour bites, lunch and dinner options, all of which sounded delicious!  SERVICE: Okay - I'll admit, this is what took two stars away. While our hostess and server were certainly friendly, it was clear they were understaffed. Our cute little server greeted us with water, and gave us ample time to check out the cocktail menu - which was loaded with choices. Our drinks arrived about 10 minutes later, so she offered to take our food order. After all was said and done, it took about an hour for all 4 meals to come to the table, which I find exceptionally long. This is also accounting for the extra 10 minutes for dad's BLT to join the party. Having worked in food service, I totally understand when the kitchen gets busy, or food has to be made on the fly taking precedence over another order, but this was just excessively long. Thankfully our server updated us on the wait and frequently checked back with us, but that aspect made me a bit bummed. SIPS: You had me at cocktails. The extensive menu offers everything you could want - draft beer, wine by the glass or bottle, cocktails and champagne. I opted for a creative concoction featuring vodka, st germaine liquor, fresh strawberries topped off with champagne. YUM! Bloodies were a hit with the rents, which was decently spicy! SPEICALS: Happy hour is from 3-6PM Monday-Saturday and features wine, beer and cocktails ranging from $3-$7. Also on the menu - light bites like Brussel sprouts, wings, chili cheese fries and a burger/beer combo for $7! While my cocktail was delicious,the atmosphere was quaint and the food looked great (gotta do it for the 'gram!), I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to return. The price tag per entrée was a bit high and the food was seemingly average. Maybe, just maybe I'd venture back for happy hour, but unlikely at this point. Sorry, Bird. read more

Solid brunch spot in Platte Park neighborhood! Was here on a (read: hot) sunny Saturday with a friend just catching up. There was a 20 min wait, but thankfully, the farmer's market, which is on the same street (fyi), was open, so we were able to walk around there for a bit. For that reason alone, I think makes a great place to get brunch, so you can check out the market before/after! For food, I went with the Bird Benny, and was fully satisfied! I asked for a spicy bloody, and they were very accommodating in making sure the slice was right. Overall, decent food and drinks, great atmosphere and surrounding things to do. Super cute spot. It's very quaint and adorable. Our service was great. Our waitress ensured that we would love everything. We also got two drinks that were new to the menu. (Forgot one but the second was Santa's little helper) both were good. Our waitress also let us know that if we didn't like our drinks we could try something else which I appreciated. We sat outdoors due to COVID but we were provided with a tent and also a cute little fire in front of us. There were also heaters at the two other tables. read more

My partner and I somehow found ourselves in this small and very cute section of Denver (we are not from here). It was raining very hard and we really just wanted to get out of the rain. We went into bird as it didn't seem very busy, when we walked in there were alot of people standing near the door way. We asked for a table of two and we're told that the wait would be about 20 minutes but we could sit at the bar until the table was ready. We gladly sat at the bar and waited. I would say we waited about 40 or so minutes. The bartender kept asking us if we wanted food but we were waiting to be seated before ordering. After a while I finally asked the very kind bartender if we were going to be seated. He went to the host stand to ask and it seemed like we had never been put on a wait list at all. My partner and I watched as the 4-5 staff members frantically tried to find us a table. When they did a waitress came over and literally said "come with me now". We were sat down and help by what seemed to be the only waitress actually helping and serving people. We immediately ordered as were were very hungry by this point. We started with the steak fries and our entree was the duck. The food was exceptional. The fries that came with our appetizer were the best I've ever had and the duck literally melted in your mouth. Stopped in for lunch on Monday 7/1 with my wife. Our server, Addie, was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the loaded grilled cheese w/bacon & fries (It sounded decadent and I was hungry for some comfort food). My wife ordered the chicken salad sandwich with a cup of soup. When we got our food, which took almost a half hour to be delivered, I was immediately unimpressed by its presentation. It looked like a toasted sandwich with a small blob of cheese in the middle, and no bacon. There were also maybe a dozen fries scattered on the plate. For the price, I was quite disappointed. I sent it back and ordered the chicken salad sandwich with fries. More fries this time, but when I bit into the sandwich, it was literally all lettuce, and very little chicken salad. I sent it back as well and asked that my items be taken off the bill. Addie, kindly obliged and profusely apologized. She stated there was no manager on duty that day ( and mentioned there wouldn't be one for the whole week). I tipped her on the amount of both our orders, even though we were only charged for one meal. My wife did love the tomato bisque, but was marginally unimpressed with the chicken salad. We've been to Bird in the past for breakfast, and loved it. Not sure I'd recommend this place for lunch. We were both disappointed, especially at the fact that we waited for such a long time to get our food...we chalked it up to maybe the chef was having a super bad day. read more

Really disappointed on our second visit: 40 min to get a table for four (somewhat expected on a Sunday noon). However it was not worth it: - coffee was cold - Benedicts were tiny and the hollandaise tested like salad dressing - and to top it off, 55 minutes to get our food! I was pleased to see some favorites from the Gaia menu make it over to the new incarnation. We dropped in here for brunch yesterday and I had the stuffed poblano with roasted tomatoes, eggs, brie, and chorizo. (The original dish has ham but I swapped for chorizo because- why not? Waaaaaay yummier.) It comes with both red and green chile and a nice little side salad. It was delish and I ate it all! Hubs had the fried chicken sandwich with french fries. He liked it but felt the fried chicken could have been more flavorful. The fries are skinny and nicely crisped. Lots of beverage options on the menu including bottomless mimosas for $13 if you're in the mood. I spied several tables of girls tying one on so it's a great place to catch up on gossip and champagne! read more

Great brunch time at Bird! Of course you can't beat the location off of Pearl st. This lovely open yet cozy restaurant awaits. Although the service was slow and you have to get their attention a lot it's definitely worth it for the atmosphere and the food. I know quiche can be simple but I really love it when a restaurant can make a simple dish delicious and memorable. Pair that with bottomless mimosas and you have the package deal. My friend had the egg bake which looked a little soggy to me but she claimed it was flavorful! Glad I checked out Bird! read more

Such a fantastic experience! We were visiting friends in Denver and they took us here for a quick brunch before a day of activities. It was a 60 degree Sunday in February around 11:00am so they had both indoor and outdoor patio seating. We opted for the indoor by an open window. We were immediately sat as we got lucky with one open table. The hostess was welcoming, the atmosphere was very well kept and had a great "Denver vibe", and there was no overpowering music blaring. Our waitress came immediately with waters and gave us some time to review the menus. We had a group of 4, and we got the breakfast burrito (amazing and hearty), the egg and avocado toast with bacon (also great), a basic egg and bacon breakfast plate, and the chicken Philly (absolutely delicious and great portion). The meals ranged from $13-$20 each and we got one juice with the bill coming to ~$100 with tip. Well priced for the quality of food, large portions, and great atmosphere. I have dined at Bird several times, and I must say it has become a disappointment. lately. Visited Bird this past Saturday for dinner and had the duck. The total bill came to apr $80.00 with two glasses of wine. Not cheap but not outrageous either. The duck was not very good and very bland. We drove a bit to try this place because we had a coupon and so glad we did! Food was all really delicious with notably fresh ingredients. The service was great and very friendly. Our server recommended the philly and the carrot bacon soup and both were spot on. Happy hour drinks were a great deal and all prices seemed really reasonable given the quality of the food. Truthfully I didn't really care for the food at Yardbird and will be in no rush to come back here. Popped in for a quick brunch on Saturday before the lunch rush. We sat at the bar and ordered the chicken salad sandwich and a crab cake benedict. The chicken salad is served on a croissant and came with a side of fries while the crab cake benedict came with a spring mix salad. Both were equally good and portioned well. My husband and I enjoyed a tasty lunch at Bird this afternoon. We are in around noon with our newborn nephew and were given a seat with ample room for his stroller and car seat and also told we could put the stroller in a corner behind the door if we wanted. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. She provided ample time to decide what we wanted to order and provided recommendations when asked. My husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich with regular fries and he enjoyed it. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The downfall for me was the "black pepper aioli" having mayonnaise as he forward flavor which took away from the sandwich. I also thought the regular fries were better seasoned than the sweet potato fries and I would order the regular fries in the future. If we were to come back, I might indulge in the bottomless mimosas and the crab cakes appetizer. Overall a nice meal that wasn't rushed in a cool, relaxed atmosphere. read more

We haven't been by here in over a year since we don't make it out to Platte Park that often. Since we were in the area doing our Farmer's Market pickup, I did a walk-by takeout order for lunch since I remember this place having a killer fried chicken sandwich. During the Covid era, Bird is accepting walk-up takeout orders - they have a little bell to ring up front if you need assistance. I had a delicious fried chicken sandwich wrapped in foil in-hand around 10 minutes after I placed my order, and the woman at the counter handed me a cup of water to go in response to my asking if they sold bottled water... The chicken sandwich is just as good - if not better - than I remember it. I meant to take a picture but I've got this weird problem where I tend to eat delicious food vs. photograph it. I guess I'll need to work on that. Crispy fried chicken breast served on an artisan roll with greens, pickles, and a spicy aioli sauce - top notch! Solid breakfast place. I was happy to see that it was busy but even more delighted to not have to wait for a table at 10am on a Saturday. As some other yelpers noted, the service was a bit on the casual/slow side, so I am sure they could turn tables faster if they needed if running a wait, but I personally appreciated not being rushed. So many other brunch places are super busy and packed that you don't get the time to sit, relax, sip on your coffee/beverage, and chat with your guest. This was a nice treat at Bird. The atmosphere (this location was formerly the black pearl) is warm and welcoming. If it's warm, the large windows open up onto beautiful pearl street and there is also a fireplace on the patio. Food was appealing to the eye and pallet. A lot of variety in drink and food options including 5 different benedicts (neighboring table got the crab cake benedict after we had eaten and it looked fabulous-BIG crab cake instead of bread and tomatoes-getting this next time). I started with the spiked chai, though there were many appealing drink options. I was pleased it was a generous size, a full pint glass to be exact (many other places are very skimpy). It was great! The stuffed poblano pepper was very good and the goat cheese elevated it to another level. The server allowed me to get both the red and green chili sauces, which I appreciated. Both were tasty. Fellow yelper and friend Lei, got the spinach Benedict. Beautiful, light, packed with veggies and a very well made hollandaise. Both dishes were served with a mixed greens salad with a light balsamic dressing. A healthy but tasty and appreciated sub to the normal breakfast potatoes or hash browns. This place was delicious and really quaint! We were visiting the South Pearl Street Farmers Market and decided we would grab a bite to eat! We had the pup with us and were thrilled to find out that their patio was pup-friendly! We sat at a communal table with a fire pit and ordered the crab cakes as an app, which were delicious! This place has an amazing menu!! Like truly everything on it sounded delicious and appetizing and exactly what I wanted for lunch. I had a really hard time deciding between the Mac and cheese, the grilled cheese with tomato bisque, the burger with mustard aioli (I LOVE mustard), and the black bean burger with hummus. I ended up going with the black bean burger but asked them to put the mustard aioli with it and oh my was it good. The burger was tasty and the brioche bun was . Also the fries were thick but still crispy and they tasted so good dipped in the mustard aioli. There were plenty of vegetarian options, and my friend who is gluten free said their gluten free bread they use for the sandwich was really delicious. So I'm in Denver for a simple weekend skiing trip from Houston (where the best food of whatever kind you want you can find), and this spot was a 5 min walk from where we were staying. I got the Bird Egg Breakfast just to try a simple classic breakfast and minimize potential disappointment I've experienced from other spots (first world problem, hit me), and my girlfriend got the Chicken and Waffles with the gravy on the side, again, as a preventative measure. I can't chalk it up to low expectations, this place was genuinely d e l i c i o u s. Eggs w cheddar were great, potatoes were awesome, chicken was good, and the gravy made it great. Pancakes and waffles were fluffy, and just the right amount of sweet with the syrup. I'll admit, this review could be influenced by the tasty screwdrivers and mimosas we had, but beside that, you can't go wrong with this spot for some top notch breakfast.
