Not worth the hype at all the food is very average at best. Staff and service wasn't great. Manager was rude to put it nicely only person who was trying to be helpful was one of the bartenders. They wouldn't even come over and give us water we had to ask multiple times. we were rudely rushed out of our table and when we asked to speak to a manager it wasn't even worth having a conversation because it wasn't going anywhere. She was more concerned about seating her friends than looking at the real line of list. I would have to say I will Never be coming back. If you want TGI Friday's quality food, this is the place for you. not a place I'm willing to spend $400 and be treated with such disrespect. read more

Not only is everything on their menu delicious. The staff is so nice. The atmosphere is cozy and old timey. I love the vinegar chicken. My husband loves the burger. The mozzarella sticks are probably both our favorite though. Oh and the grasshopper sundae is a must. read more

Since this place just launched, there's been some buzz--but unlike a lot of area openings--it actually meets if not surpasses the hype. The vibe is chill neighborhood hangout. Classic. Red checkered tablecloths, leather banquettes and stained glass lamps. Not overly scene-y like a lot of restos in Williamsburg. We had the dirty martini, wedge salad, and the double cheeseburger. Honestly I don't get the hype. I showed up at 430 and there was already a crowd. They opened the door at 5 amd we got in on first round. We started with the mozzarella sticks, they're huge! Recently stopped in the for the first time after meaning to eat here ever since they opened the location on Lorimer. Had the burger w/ fries and must say that the burger was quite stellar and worth the price. Draught beers came out in super frosty mugs and the burger buns were buttery, toasty and overall delicious. The place can get packed quickly and doesn't appear to take reservations (I was able to get a table right away at 6pm on a Thursday) but I'll definitely be back to try some of the other entrees. read more

Dined last night and was disappointed that last call was called at 10:50 even though they close at 11 (so presumably people can walk in and expect to be seated until 11), bar lights were turned off and chairs were flipped up onto tables right at 11 and the moment the football game ended (maybe 11:10) the T.V. was turned off. Management and staff were sitting at the bar waiting for the 12 (12 paying customers) to leave. I understand if it's an hour passed close and you have a table lingering and you want them to get the hint that it's time to wrap things up, but 12 people were actively spending money and enjoying themselves and probably all would have continued to spend money. The lack of professionalism and hospitality is a total bummer because the food is really solid. read more

Bernie's is fairly new to the neighborhood and I'm so grateful it's finally here! It's good "old fashioned" American food with a modern twist, complete with the cute red booths and all. They have the best Caesar salad I think I've ever had, one of the best burgers I've ever tried, and the most incredible vinegar chicken EVER. Get all three of these things if you can. Plus the portion sizes are massive, which makes for happy sharing. They also make great drinks and the service is wonderful: The staff is always super attentive and friendly. They don't take reservations however so make sure to show up early and put your name down! P.S. If you're into dessert, get the sundae. It's so worth it. I think about it often. read more

So happy that Bernie's opened in our neighborhood! I really love Frankel's - their other restaurant - everyone is so nice, food is delicious and intentional nostalgic vibes well executed without feeling kitschy. Bernie's is also 3 for 3. Bernie's reminds me of restaurants I knew growing up in Chicago. Walking in reminded me a lot of dinners out with my grandparents when we would visit them in the suburbs. The food at Bernie's is 10x better though. My boyfriend and I had the vinegar chicken, the mozzarella sticks, baked clams and wedge salad. Everything was on point and delicious. The chicken and the salad were my favorite. So good! I would take a bath in the vinegar chicken drippings if I could. Next time, I think it's worth ordering the bread to soak it up. I think eating out in New York really screws with your brain - at this point I'm used to needing to order at least 4 things from the menu for 2 people, but that was not needed here. Portions are a little big (not $25 for to spoonfuls of whatever), which meant our four dishes were a bit too much food. In retrospect, the mozzarella sticks were what could have nixed but I'm so glad we didn't. They were perfect. Didn't have room for dessert but it looks so good! In terms of drinks, I got a gin gimlet and the boyfriend had beers. The chilled beer glasses is a really nice touch. As for the gimlet - there's no cocktail menu so you need to know an actual cocktail if you want one - I love this. The vibe of the place made me think of getting a martini or old fashioned, but I wanted something a tad sweeter this time around. The price point for all the food/drinks was also a good deal. Not cheap, but we got a lot for about $80. Overall really happy this is just a few blocks away. Will definitely be the perfect spot fo chilly winter nights. read more

Planned a trip NYC for months and Bernie's was on the list for our Friday night. Walked 20 minutes there with friends and my 9 year old son who told me he had to pee when we were a few blocks away. We arrived at 6pm (1 hour after they open), to be told they weren't taking names for tables for the rest of the night (huh?). How does that work, a place that doesn't take reservations also doesn't accept walk-ups? Ok, whatever, we can eat elsewhere but can my son use the bathroom real quick while we figure out other plans? Nope! The snotty hostess rolled her eyes and said starkly, "our bathrooms are only for customers". Ok, I get that, especially in NYC, but we're trying to be customers and you won't let us and now you're fine with turning away a child. Got it. That's some real karma stuff right there that'll come back around. No thanks, Bernie's. Went to Elder Greene up in Greenpoint and got the cheeseburger and wedge salad I had planned to get at Bernie's and it was delicious. Oh and my son was allowed to use the bathroom. read more

Had a great experience here! Came for dinner a few weeks ago and everything was wonderful. The waitstaff was super helpful and accommodating and the menu was small but had a great selection. Bernie's is my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn. The warm, inviting decor and absolutely delicious, classic food are only rivalled by the impeccable service. The staff COULD NOT be friendlier. Always accommodating, kind, and welcoming. I have been to Bernie's dozens of times, as I always crave their homey dishes (the vinegar chicken, house salad, and garlic bread in particular) and it's my neighborhood staple; but last night they truly outdid themselves. My parents were visiting from out of state, and it was my mom's 65th birthday. They did everything to make her feel special and celebrated - they sat us in a fantastic, cozy booth and put a candle in the dessert. I have lived in Greenpoint for 6 years, and Bernie's fills a hole in the restaurant landscape that was vacant for a long time: fantastic, reasonably-priced food in a casual yet authentic environment. Woah, it's delicious! That burger! The wedge salad with bacon! The atmosphere! Playing funk all night, they have a TV if you want football, and the stained glass lamps that hung over many a pool table in their day. A large bar to wait at if there is a line, and a NICE martini. I was going into this place expecting a lot, but in the end my family and I were severely disappointed. The disappointment comes from the quality and price of the food. The service and the wait staff were great, please don't think I'm wrong there. The menu has a very, very limited selection. Maybe about 4 dishes to chose from. The description about the food was incredibly poor as well, to the point we had to send a dish back because we didn't know it came with nuts on it. And one of us in our party is extremely allergic to tree nuts. The deluxe burger tasted exactly like a McDonalds Big Mac and worse off when I asked to substitute onion rings I was told "No substitutions". My daughters Chicken Caesar salad was dismal to the point she even said the one I make at home is better. I understand this place may be new, but in a trendy area it might be wise to be a bit more in touch. The atmosphere was good, but until the quality of the food improves and the menu gets revisited we won't be going back. read more
