By far one of NYC's best restaurants. The three meals I've had here have been perfect all-around, from the service to the appetizers to the entrees to the dessert to the ambiance. Just a great place. Get the wedge salad, baked clams, vinegar chicken and lemon ice box pie. read more

JACK JACK JACK I was on Vacation visiting my nephew in Williamsburg and never suspected to meet a real Life movie star at a restaurant. We went to an American steakhouse and our server was reminiscent of Farley Granger. His name was jack! He made us feel so welcome and was so kind. Maybe I'll move to New York. Haha read more

Bernie's is a perfect addition to the area- a neighborhood restaurant with a menu that's simple, but still higher quality than regular pub food. I'd compare it to a mix of JG Melons and a little bit of the feel of a Perry's/Tadich Grill (SF). The burger probably belongs in the conversation of great NYC burgers (double patty, In-and-Out style, but with toasted sesame bun). The beer mugs are frosted which sadly made me so happy that it probably clouded the rest of my judgment about the place. I could sit at the bar and watch the Yankees game and eat here every night. I've already done it twice in two weeks. And the music is also great. read more

Probably the best mozzarella sticks I've ever had. Seriously. I can not stop thinking about these cheesy, perfectly fried sticks of goodness. Each bite was better than the last. The sauce was a great addition but not necessary. It's been like three days since we ate there and I'm still thinking about these mozz sticks. Nothing will ever compare. Besides that, the vinegar chicken was a VERY close second to being the best meal I ever had in NYC (beat out by the mozz sticks duh) Ugh wow Bernie's really killed the game. Highly recommend forever. read more

Bernie's - New American Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I came here last night with my boyfriend and it was nothing short of amazing! First off the food was Delicious with a capital D -- I got the ribs which were so tasty (especially the BBQ which I'll be thinking about for days) and my boyfriend got the steak and fries which he raved about (I'm not a steak person but I tried it and gave it thumbs up). We shared a small caesar salad at the start of the meal which was a generous portion for the two of us. The vibe and ambiance of the restaurant was super cool -- loved the dark wood and stained glass lamps, the red and white checkered tablecloths were nice and the crayons and drawing paper on the table was a cute touch. I also want to give a special shoutout to the staff -- our host who sat us at the table was extremely personable and friendly (he even helped us out on HQ haha) and I have to give the highest of praises to our waitress Rachel was so friendly and personable and made our experience the best it could possibly be. At the end of night my boyfriend I were telling her how we can't wait to come back and I most definitely will be spreading the good word about Bernie's to all my friends! read more

Went here for a celebration dinner and the food was incredible. Huge portions of delicious comfort food, great service and a nice atmosphere at both the casual romantic outside tables and the dark divey inside seating. Can't wait to return! Must get the surprisingly delicious vinegar chicken and the sundae. read more

Bernie's - Vinegar chicken - New American Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Not only is everything on their menu delicious. The staff is so nice. The atmosphere is cozy and old timey. I love the vinegar chicken. My husband loves the burger. The mozzarella sticks are probably both our favorite though. Oh and the grasshopper sundae is a must. read more

Not worth the hype at all the food is very average at best. Staff and service wasn't great. Manager was rude to put it nicely only person who was trying to be helpful was one of the bartenders. They wouldn't even come over and give us water we had to ask multiple times. we were rudely rushed out of our table and when we asked to speak to a manager it wasn't even worth having a conversation because it wasn't going anywhere. She was more concerned about seating her friends than looking at the real line of list. I would have to say I will Never be coming back. If you want TGI Friday's quality food, this is the place for you. not a place I'm willing to spend $400 and be treated with such disrespect. read more

Since this place just launched, there's been some buzz--but unlike a lot of area openings--it actually meets if not surpasses the hype. The vibe is chill neighborhood hangout. Classic. Red checkered tablecloths, leather banquettes and stained glass lamps. Not overly scene-y like a lot of restos in Williamsburg. We had the dirty martini, wedge salad, and the double cheeseburger. Superb. Flavor was off the charts, clean and really well balanced. Every bite. Unpretentious food executed exquisitely. I can see this becoming my regular local spot. :) read more

My favorite neighborhood dinner spot. Period. Great great great service. Frosted beer mugs. Huge portions (i mean monstrous). The stand-outs are the Vinegar Chicken (maybe it doesn't sound like the kind of thing that would thrill you? It's unreal), the burger, and their mozzarella sticks. I'll bet everything else there is pretty incredible but my belly can only contain so much food. read more

One of the best burgers I've ever had! You have to wait for awhile but just out your name in, grab a drink and then come back in a bit to check in. Really good food and martinis read more

Honestly I don't get the hype. I showed up at 430 and there was already a crowd. They opened the door at 5 amd we got in on first round. We started with the mozzarella sticks, they're huge! We got the burger, ribs, and brownie sundae. The food was nice but it wasn't mind blowing, certainly not worth waiting in the cold 2+ hours like the people who showed up at 6 were told. read more

The best mozzarella sticks everrrrr!!! Must try! Vinegar Chicken...delicious! Love you Bernie's!!!

Bernie's you are truly fantastic, I had an incredible experience here yesterday. Such a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Awesome menu and amazing Vinegar Chicken. Everybody was very helpful. You can't beat that. read more

Recently stopped in the for the first time after meaning to eat here ever since they opened the location on Lorimer. Had the burger w/ fries and must say that the burger was quite stellar and worth the price. Draught beers came out in super frosty mugs and the burger buns were buttery, toasty and overall delicious. The place can get packed quickly and doesn't appear to take reservations (I was able to get a table right away at 6pm on a Thursday) but I'll definitely be back to try some of the other entrees. read more

Probably my favorite casual restaurant in Williamsburg. Nostalgic vibes with a nice bar scene. The food is really tremendous. Burger and crispy chicken piccata are standouts but everything we've had here was excellent. read more

Food is great. Dined last night and was disappointed that last call was called at 10:50 even though they close at 11 (so presumably people can walk in and expect to be seated until 11), bar lights were turned off and chairs were flipped up onto tables right at 11 and the moment the football game ended (maybe 11:10) the T.V. was turned off. Management and staff were sitting at the bar waiting for the 12 (12 paying customers) to leave. I understand if it's an hour passed close and you have a table lingering and you want them to get the hint that it's time to wrap things up, but 12 people were actively spending money and enjoying themselves and probably all would have continued to spend money. The lack of professionalism and hospitality is a total bummer because the food is really solid. read more

Finally checked this place out after 6 months in the neighborhood, and it'll now be a regular go-to. Beautifully styled cherry red booths, small stylish bar, friendly staff, and serving giant, delicious chicken parm. All round excellent. read more

honestly i eat here all the time and it's delicious. eggplant parm special does not disappoint. don't sleep. god bless.

Bernie's is fairly new to the neighborhood and I'm so grateful it's finally here! It's good "old fashioned" American food with a modern twist, complete with the cute red booths and all. They have the best Caesar salad I think I've ever had, one of the best burgers I've ever tried, and the most incredible vinegar chicken EVER. Get all three of these things if you can. Plus the portion sizes are massive, which makes for happy sharing. They also make great drinks and the service is wonderful: The staff is always super attentive and friendly. They don't take reservations however so make sure to show up early and put your name down! P.S. If you're into dessert, get the sundae. It's so worth it. I think about it often. read more

So happy that Bernie's opened in our neighborhood! I really love Frankel's - their other restaurant - everyone is so nice, food is delicious and intentional nostalgic vibes well executed without feeling kitschy. Bernie's is also 3 for 3. Bernie's reminds me of restaurants I knew growing up in Chicago. Walking in reminded me a lot of dinners out with my grandparents when we would visit them in the suburbs. The food at Bernie's is 10x better though. My boyfriend and I had the vinegar chicken, the mozzarella sticks, baked clams and wedge salad. Everything was on point and delicious. The chicken and the salad were my favorite. So good! I would take a bath in the vinegar chicken drippings if I could. Next time, I think it's worth ordering the bread to soak it up. I think eating out in New York really screws with your brain - at this point I'm used to needing to order at least 4 things from the menu for 2 people, but that was not needed here. Portions are a little big (not $25 for to spoonfuls of whatever), which meant our four dishes were a bit too much food. In retrospect, the mozzarella sticks were what could have nixed but I'm so glad we didn't. They were perfect. Didn't have room for dessert but it looks so good! In terms of drinks, I got a gin gimlet and the boyfriend had beers. The chilled beer glasses is a really nice touch. As for the gimlet - there's no cocktail menu so you need to know an actual cocktail if you want one - I love this. The vibe of the place made me think of getting a martini or old fashioned, but I wanted something a tad sweeter this time around. The price point for all the food/drinks was also a good deal. Not cheap, but we got a lot for about $80. Overall really happy this is just a few blocks away. Will definitely be the perfect spot fo chilly winter nights. read more

Planned a trip NYC for months and Bernie's was on the list for our Friday night. Walked 20 minutes there with friends and my 9 year old son who told me he had to pee when we were a few blocks away. We arrived at 6pm (1 hour after they open), to be told they weren't taking names for tables for the rest of the night (huh?). How does that work, a place that doesn't take reservations also doesn't accept walk-ups? Ok, whatever, we can eat elsewhere but can my son use the bathroom real quick while we figure out other plans? Nope! The snotty hostess rolled her eyes and said starkly, "our bathrooms are only for customers". Ok, I get that, especially in NYC, but we're trying to be customers and you won't let us and now you're fine with turning away a child. Got it. That's some real karma stuff right there that'll come back around. No thanks, Bernie's. Went to Elder Greene up in Greenpoint and got the cheeseburger and wedge salad I had planned to get at Bernie's and it was delicious. Oh and my son was allowed to use the bathroom. read more

Straight up one of my favorite spots in Greenpoint/Williamsburg. Vibe is cool, and food is good.

Had a great experience here! Came for dinner a few weeks ago and everything was wonderful. The waitstaff was super helpful and accommodating and the menu was small but had a great selection. We had the vinegar chicken, wedge salad, and baked calms and it was nothing short of delicious. Seemed like a good spot for families with kids (crayons and paper table cloths). I will definitely be coming back soon! read more

Bernie's is my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn. The warm, inviting decor and absolutely delicious, classic food are only rivalled by the impeccable service. The staff COULD NOT be friendlier. Always accommodating, kind, and welcoming. I have been to Bernie's dozens of times, as I always crave their homey dishes (the vinegar chicken, house salad, and garlic bread in particular) and it's my neighborhood staple; but last night they truly outdid themselves. My parents were visiting from out of state, and it was my mom's 65th birthday. They did everything to make her feel special and celebrated - they sat us in a fantastic, cozy booth and put a candle in the dessert. I have lived in Greenpoint for 6 years, and Bernie's fills a hole in the restaurant landscape that was vacant for a long time: fantastic, reasonably-priced food in a casual yet authentic environment. I am so happy to see them continually busy, because I hope they remain open for a very, very long time. Thanks, Bernie's! read more

SIMPLY THE BEST. The salad is fantastic. So are the crayons. Owned by great people.

Enjoyed restaurant atmosphere is comfy and warm. I tried their burgers and can tell you are one of the best in Williamsburg in comparison to Peter Lugers. Also their roasted chicken is juicy and flavorful, ribs and roast beef are so yummy! Awesome vibe. Really solid food. Great service. Good music. The bar is really nice and the beer mugs are a nice touch for a really cold beer. Went on a Tuesday and got a table for 4 easily at 7pm. Every seat was filled by 8pm. No reservations. There's only a few main course options on the menu so I hope they add more options in the future! read more

Woah, it's delicious! That burger! The wedge salad with bacon! The atmosphere! Playing funk all night, they have a TV if you want football, and the stained glass lamps that hung over many a pool table in their day. A large bar to wait at if there is a line, and a NICE martini. A perfect mix of side of the road and classy as yaaasss you want. Plus they give you space to draw on the table. The ribs were great, but the sauce was a little to sweet for me. Going to try the mozzarella sticks next time! The sundae was delicious -- but a lot of whipped cream! Go! Yes! Love it all! read more

This place is ways out of my way from the Bronx but it is TOTALLY worth it. The prices are higher than average places but the food is fresh and really really good. You pay for great food and I'm totally down for that. The mozzarella sticks are huge and soooooo cheesy my toddler LOVES them! The chicken parm is a very generous portion and tastes home made and it's one of the best menu items. I suggest highly you stop by at LEAST once in your life ‍ read more

We walked in and was totally surprised. The restaurant was beautiful. The owners were so nice! The most pleasant surprise was how good the food was. It was truly the best meal we have had all year. It will be worth your time and money! Enjoy! read more

Just love this place. Great food, reasonable prices and a very welcoming staff. Never gets tired!

Nice neighborhood place with solid food and service. Interior is well executed and inviting. Definitely family friendly. Chicken, steak and burger entrees were all very tasty as were the mozz sticks and tuna tartare apps. Prices were pretty reasonable for the area and portions were generous. Only complaint is the lack of any real wine list or cocktail list. Seems like just a handful of wines available and standard drinks. We'll be back. read more
