I've been to Bernie's a few times now and it never fails to disappoint. I recently went for a burger, but upon seeing the person next to me order ribs, I added that to my tab as well. No regrets at all. The staff is prompt and very accommodating, and I'm a big fan of the casual elevated diner vibe. As I said, the burgers and ribs are excellent, as are the fried oysters. What can I say, I love this place.. It's very nostalgic.. It reminds me of the Regal Beagle or some like 80's restaurant I would go out to dinner, when I was with my parents.. It's just missing a pac man game and maybe some peanut shells on the floor.. Ground Round, Charlies Uncle, old school Bennigan's type feel. . Staff was friendly and welcoming.. The menu is as classic as the decor.. Speaking of classic, we started with their baked clams, they use a sweeter house made bread to make the bread crumbs which my wife really enjoyed. The clams were expertly cooked. We then had their wedge salad. It was reminiscent of Peter Luger's but, they added their twist.. the sauce was very buttermilk like, with some blue cheese and chives and sweet tomatoes.. The blue cheese was scarce and the buttermilk/mayo was flowing.. very little black pepper as well.. It was delicious and more balanced than usual.. i really enjoyed this. Next up was the chicken parm.. .This is only served Sunday night. I was taken a back by this plate.. It, in my opinion, is the best chicken parm that I have found in Brooklyn.. In reality, it would be a very good chicken parm served in many places through out New Jersey but, by Brooklyn Standards, this is the freaking gold standard. Shocked in how undisappointed I was, i told the bartender that this tastes like a NJ Chicken Parm and he replied, our chef is from NJ so, that will mean a lot to them. Ah ha, see, i didn't know they brought in a ringer.. I am impressed and happy and I can rest easy knowing this place exists. The price was for everything was very reasonable looking at other food that was being brought out, I look forward to trying more things from their menu.. One of the best burgers I've had here in Williamsburg....even NYC. From the makers of Frankel's, this Williamsburg staple is literally everything you're craving on any night! We ordered mozzarella sticks to start and a cheeseburger deluxe as my main meal. The nozzle sticks were HUGE massive crispy rolls of fried cheese. Bernie's is simply the best! We have been hearing about this place for so long and finally got to go. The atmosphere of this place was so cozy. It is such a fun touch that they give you crayons to draw on the paper over the table cloth even if you are an adult. My boyfriend and I split a pitcher of beer which was a good idea. We ordered the caesar salad and mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks were pretty good but the caesar salad was AMAZING! We would simply come back for that salad. Then for our entree we both ordered a cheeseburger and fries. These burgers were large and delicious. I believe we could have split one and been satisfied. Regardless, the flavor was great. The service was great and the staff was friendly. My tip with this place is to go there around 6 pm to put your name down because they do not take reservations. I had a fantastic meal at Bernie's. Ice cold beer in a thick frosted mug, you gotta love that. They also make a mean martinis, again: ice cold in a frosty martini glass. Vinegar chicken was super tender and delicious, great for sharing. The ribs were also fantastic. We split the Caesar which was great, but next time I'm going for the wedge salad, I saw it float by and it looked amazing. Also, the onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. Bernie's has got a very cool "old NY" vibe going on which I love. The menu has all the classic favorites and they make it well without getting too precious about it. The place looks a bit like as I described it during our meal: an Italian restaurant in older Italian mafia films where the bar prominently sits in the front on the side, and then there's tables in the back; except these "tables" are largely deep, comfy ruby red booths which also reminded me of an old New York. The four of us got the following: 1x Chips and Dip: potato chips in essence, but the dip is this great sour cream onion with long, grilled pieces of onion in the mix 2x Iceberg Lettuce Salad: comes topped with a slab of slightly burnt Canadian bacon; dressing is rich but not creamy or gross; lettuce crisp and plentiful 2x Burger: good, well cooked, soft bun, great side of homemade thousand island-ish dressing for crisp, little fries. 2x RIBS: soft, tender, pulls right off the bone; the sauce is almost a tangy, slightly sweet, tomato-based flavor - very very good Beer selection was surprisingly limited; not particularly impressed by the drink options. read more

Love the classic vibes and the food is great! If I lived in the area, I'd be at Bernie's for lunch and dinner (or even just a drink) all the time.  We arrived for a late Sunday lunch and the restaurant was packed. The wait time for a table was too long for our growling stomachs so we decided to eat at the bar. My only complaint sitting at the bar was that the bartender was quite unfriendly, which made us a bit uncomfortable.  We started off with a couple of drinks. If you're into Bloody Mary's, they make a really good one! We then ordered an insane amount of food to share, but hey, you only live once! We got the Caesar salad, French onion soup, chicken wings, and cheeseburger deluxe. Everything was delicious and would recommend it all depending on what you're in the mood for. Was around the area looking for a good burger place and found Bernie's decided to stop in and got attended quickly. The place is small but clean and the staff are friendly. I really like the leather seats and the fact that they add crayons on the table with a paper table top so you can draw when bored. I got the cheeseburger with French fries it was delicious!! Bernie's is a throwback to old school NYC places with red and white checked table clothes and dark wood booths. I met a friend for dinner on a Friday night and she arrived before me and noted there was a 40 minute/hour wait--not sure if this is the standard or because the place is fairly new. We put our names down for a table but ended up being able to sag two seats at the bar--I highly recommend sitting at the bar if you can, we had great service! The restaurant isn't huge, but has a decent amount of tables in the dining section. We split the mozzarella sticks, the burger, and the house salad and it was just the right amount of food. The mozzarella sticks had great crunch and I loved the dressing and size of the house salad. The burger is great as well--a double patty! Beware if you don't like onions because it comes with an onion jam of sorts (I scrapped it off and kept on eating). Bernie's is also an excellent place to order an martini--I opted to get mine with a twist (gin always and forever). A fun place for a date or casual dinner--be prepare for a wait if you come during peak dining hours or with a group of four or more. read more

Bernie's is a perfect addition to the area- a neighborhood restaurant with a menu that's simple, but still higher quality than regular pub food. I'd compare it to a mix of JG Melons and a little bit of the feel of a Perry's/Tadich Grill (SF). The burger probably belongs in the conversation of great NYC burgers (double patty, In-and-Out style, but with toasted sesame bun). The beer mugs are frosted which sadly made me so happy that it probably clouded the rest of my judgment about the place. I could sit at the bar and watch the Yankees game and eat here every night. Probably the best mozzarella sticks I've ever had. Seriously. I can not stop thinking about these cheesy, perfectly fried sticks of goodness. Each bite was better than the last. The sauce was a great addition but not necessary. It's been like three days since we ate there and I'm still thinking about these mozz sticks. Nothing will ever compare. I came here last night with my boyfriend and it was nothing short of amazing! First off the food was Delicious with a capital D -- I got the ribs which were so tasty (especially the BBQ which I'll be thinking about for days) and my boyfriend got the steak and fries which he raved about (I'm not a steak person but I tried it and gave it thumbs up). We shared a small caesar salad at the start of the meal which was a generous portion for the two of us. The vibe and ambiance of the restaurant was super cool -- loved the dark wood and stained glass lamps, the red and white checkered tablecloths were nice and the crayons and drawing paper on the table was a cute touch. I also want to give a special shoutout to the staff -- our host who sat us at the table was extremely personable and friendly (he even helped us out on HQ haha) and I have to give the highest of praises to our waitress Rachel was so friendly and personable and made our experience the best it could possibly be. At the end of night my boyfriend I were telling her how we can't wait to come back and I most definitely will be spreading the good word about Bernie's to all my friends! read more
