Highly recommend if you want something fresh with a touch of hearty. No way you've had a salad like this before. The steak was phenomenal especially paired with the spinach. I don't think I'm being dramatic when I say that's the best steak and spinach I've ever had. It was so juicy, buttery and perfectly cooked. Insane!! The ambiance is very down to earth and not preppy, we sat by the kitchen so it was cool to see the chefs cook. Highly recommend, you have to come here! (Ofc good service also!)

Lucky Charlie's was one of those meals that really sticks with you…read more I had very high expectations coming in, and they absolutely delivered. One of the coolest parts of the experience was getting to see the coal-burning oven downstairs, built into the foundation of the building in 1890. Knowing that everything coming out of the kitchen is being cooked in that oven makes the whole experience even more unique. I started with a glass of Barolo, then tried the "From the Sea," which is limited to only six orders per day. It comes with oysters Rockefeller, clams casino, shrimp oreganata and charred octopus, and everything on the platter was fantastic. The octopus especially had a beautiful char while still being incredibly tender. The Classic Pizza was the highlight for me. Fior di latte, DOP San Marzano tomato sauce, Pecorino Sardo, Sicilian olive oil and 40-month Parmigiano Reggiano. The coal oven gives the crust such a great crisp and flavor, and this honestly became one of my personal favorite pizzas in New York. It's the kind of pie you just keep reaching for. The housemade cannelloni with ricotta, sausage and marinara was also excellent, and we finished with another pizza split between sausage and peppers and cup-and-char pepperoni. Both sides were delicious. Between the history, the atmosphere, the quality of the ingredients and what that coal oven does to the food, Lucky Charlie's is a place I would absolutely go back to. Easily one of the most memorable meals I've had in Brooklyn and a spot I'd highly recommend.

I am so glad I was "finally" able to get to Lucky Charlie!…read more *from the sea, limit 6 per day. We were the first customers! My situation is different, I work in Brooklyn and live in the 'burbs. At 2pm I'm looking at Waze! Lucky Charlie opens at 5pm during the week so it's been tough to plan. I see all these social media postings, it looks like people are having some fun in Bushwick! Well, the stars aligned and we were able to be the first customers last Sunday. That means I immediately placed the order for *from the sea: Two Oyster Rockefeller Two Clams Casino Shrimp Organata Charred Octopus This is why I was planning to get here before the restaurant opened. Fantastic is how I would best describe this dish. I've had charred octopus at Hellas in Tampa which was our standard. The cook on the octopus was better, it's the best I ever had. Lucky Charlie looks like a very old Brooklyn joint. A place where you'd order a Miller High Life from the bar after work. Now add the fact they turned up the oldest coal oven in existence, this is truly a one of a kind spot. Take for instance the classic pizza. The pizza was so unique, made DOP San Marzano sauce and topped with aged parmigiano reggiano, it's finished in the coal oven to create a master class, thin crust pizza. A pizza that's made not too far where I grew up. From the great Negroni Cocktail to the amazing pizza, you want to try everything on the Lucky Charlie menu.

Of course, we did what we always do; showed up without a reservation haha... It was packed, and the hostess told us the was no way they could seat us. Defeated, we went outside ans sat on a bench trying to figure out our next move. Then the unimaginable happened. One of the people running the floor passed us outside, started chatting with us, and said, "let me double-check". A few minutes later, he came back and got us a table! He make sure we understood that we only had it for a short window bc they needed it back at a certain time -- but we got at least hour and a half to enjoy it so we were THRILLED. To us that was more than enough. He really went out of his way to make it happen, and honestly wish I remembered his name so I could give him the credit he deserves. And the service from there was outstanding. Even though we knew we had a time restriction, we never felt rushed or hurried for a second. Everything felt relaxed, attentive, and perfectly paced, which made them whole experience even better. Once we sat down, we started ordering as quickly as possible. The grilled clams were insanely good -- flavorful and with just the right little kick. The Nduja & sungold tomato toast was surprise favorite. The tomatoes were so juicy, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Simple, but SO good. The little gem salad was fresh, crunchy and exactly what we needed in between all the richer dishes. For pastas, I had the mafaldini with parmigiano, one of their signatures, and it was delicious. BUT... I have to give the win to my husband's pick, rigatoni alla diavola. I know they are completely different dishes, and Im usually a white-sauce kind of girl, but there was something about that bold, spicy flavor that just HIT THE SPOT. And dessert... The vanilla soft serve gelato and the warm rasberry tart together were the perfect combination -- creamy, warm, fruity, and just the right way to finish our lucky dinner. Lilia was absolutely worth the wait and definitely lived up to the hype. Another Brooklyn spot checked off the list -- and one I'd happily go back to.

For starters: the bread was good (hard to mess up though?) the squash was fine, and I wish the tomatoes had been heirloom or thicker cut. For mains: the sheep's milk agnolotti was not for me, it was oddly sweet, I'm honestly not sure why it's so popular. The rigatoni and gnocchi were very good - the rigatoni was perfectly al dente paired with good flavor and the texture of the gnocchi was perfect. Highly recommend ordering these. Dessert: they definitely don't skimp on the dessert, we each got our own but the gelato options were definitely shareable. They also had amaro options which I always appreciate but didn't get this time. The space was a little cramped indoors though that didn't bother me as much as the temperature. It was a really hot summer day and I don't think they had air conditioning? Or if they did it definitely was not at an ideal temperature as I didn't feel like there was much air circulation.

Unfortunately we came during a heat wave, and if there is any AC inside, we didn't feel it. But the vibes were good, and we enjoyed the happy hour cocktails and chips with refried beans. The mushroom tacos were really, really good, with a nice smokiness that's difficult to achieve. I wish it came served on a soft tortilla, as hard taco shells are not really my thing. I also loved that the artwork on the plates is a tribute to the owners' family--it was such a thoughtful, personal touch. This feels more like a cocktail bar that happens to serve great food, and I mean that in the best way. Every cocktail was expertly crafted and unique. The standouts were the Limoncello Milk Punch (my favorite!), the Mela Tini, and The Bialetti. The food was excellent, too. The Smashed Meatball Parm was a clever twist on the classic sandwich. The grilled romaine salad was next level, with crispy pancetta adding salty little bites of joy. The grilled wings weren't especially meaty, but they more than made up for it with their smoky, flavorful seasoning. Overall, I really enjoyed this spot. It's the kind of place that's perfect for starting the night with drinks and bites or ending the evening with one last great cocktail.

Review I'm truly so…read moreconfused why this spot has so many positive reviews. As a bar that is known for their cocktails, they definitely do not deserve to be in the top 50. Maybe Sunday is not the best night to go for the first time? The two stars are for some of the food and service, as Matt was a dream, but if you're looking for mind-blowingly-delicious cocktails and yummy Italian fare, go elsewhere. Felt like the bartender was in a bad mood and taking it out on the drinks, as anything that was built was over-shaken and flavorless. Everything tasted like watered down booze and the food seemed like an after thought. Puttanesca Martini, was the cocktail I was really looking forward to. Did not get all the flavours they tried to achieve, just tasted like tomato water. Was sincerely disappointing. Don Fanucci should've been an interesting take on a manhattan, but was definitely shaken, not stirred, and tasted like watery bourbon. No hints of thyme or apricot, even think the olive oil was forgotten. Was the least favourite and most undrinkable of the night. Sardinian Nights sounded refreshingly delightful, was excited for the plum and pandan flavours, but again just tasted like a lot of soda with a splash of rye. Beet Busdown actually had some flavour, didn't get any of the beet or balsamic, but was at least drinkable. Gemma's Sauce and the Limoncello Milk Punch were the best of the night, but I'm sure both were batched and 3 oz poured over ice, so saved from being over-done/over-shaken. Was also bummed to not try the Arancino, they were out and didn't have them available until the next day, so we opted for the Ossobuco Croquettes, don't. The charred cipollini was the best part of the dish, the pesto trapanese extremely needed for the VERY dry croquettes. The Grilled Baby Romaine and the Rigatoni all' Amatriciana were the highlights of the night, food-wise, but that's not saying much. I was really looking forward to trying this spot but overall was just too expensive for what it was. Can get much better cocktails and Italian fare elsewhere.

Started with some bread and a tomato and cucumber salad. Then had the lamb ribs and the Koobideh kabob. Wrapped it all up with the saffron ice cream and some Persian black tea. Let me start here....OMG!!!! The salad was delicious and a refreshing starter to prepare your palate for what will be a meal to remember. The lamb ribs are fall of the bone tender, seasoned and spiced to perfection. The red chilies that are sliced and sprinkled on top are a sweet spicy, not crazy heat. Next was the beef and lamb Koobideh kabob. Just delicious with all the right spices and sides. The saffron ice cream is indescribably delicious with some kind of honey, pistachio and rose water sauce. Just go have it. The cookie it came with was equally exquisite. The vibe of the place is super cool and the wait staff, while busy, is very attentive. It's easy to get there and only 3 blocks from the Morgan station of the L train. Absolutely unforgettable meal.

It all worked out in the end as we did get a table at around 9:40 thanks to the two lovely hostesses. They were quite friendly and made every effort to accommodate despite some tension among the walk in crowd looking to get sat. Ambiance was warm and casual. Servers were friendly and relaxed. Since we were sat so late we ended up staying until around 10:50 (the kitchen closes at 10:00 I believe) and we were one of the last parties out. They were cleaning and stacking chairs as we left but we didn't feel rushed at all. Food was good! I would order differently next time. My duck was pretty tough and very hard to cut with the knife provided but had a really unique flavor. Whipped feta was great with the breads we ordered. Would go again but would not order the duck and would not wait 3.5 hours again. Kudos to the team for getting us sat.
