First off, service was wonderful! Our waiter new the menu backward and forward, even knew about where the salmon was sourced! Not an overly aggressive menu, which is nice when you want to focus on a few things well, but I was not impressed with the House marinated Rib-Eye. The marinade itself was not impressive, pineapple sesame and ginger. The blend did not work for me. Too bad I had to spend $38 to figure that out. The Grilled Chicken Salad was passable, but for the price I'd expect more meat. The desserts were good, the Warm Nutty Brownie sure lived up to the name and I understand from my partner that the Keylime pie was up to standards. Abysmally poor curbside service. I get that it's Father's Day and things are busier than usual. I get that there's a pandemic and things are busier than usual. BUT if you're running 20 minutes behind with promised food, you have my phone number, you have my email address...you even have me sitting in my car waiting. Why not bother providing an update? Or asking if I would like a cup of water while I wait? Considering how much money we're spending on food (not to mention tipping generously for curbside pickup), a little courtesy and communication would be appreciated. I saw a guy who arrived after me flag a food runner down for an update and I myself had to call for an update. Again, I waited TWENTY minutes past my promised pickup time and received zero communication after I was asked to pull to the side. If your going to spend this much on a tab, I suggest you go somewhere else. My family and I were treated very poorly by the staff here on Father's Day. It honestly felt like the staff racially profiled my child's father for his tattoos, clothes, and appearance and did not want us to eat here. When we were finally seated, our waitress disappeared for 30 minutes. We waited an hour and a half just to finally get our food to the table. The whole ordeal was just disappointing especially with it being a special occasion. I do not recommend eating here. They weren't even prepared for the pandemic, they couldn't even offer us face masks. I go out to eat often, most places offer a complimentary face mask if you forget yours. Not this place. How are you going to charge $100+ a check and not offer your guests a mask? Poor customer service. Not only did we deal with all this, but they were trying to force us to sit outside in the 100degree heat with My 3 year old, at a bar height table with a stool with no seat back for my kid. When I asked for a chair with a back I was told they couldn't bring them outside. We made a reservation for a table inside. The whole experience was terrible. Highly disappointed. I appreciate the store manager who finally thought to make things right by finally giving us two face masks to walk inside, but the whole ordeal was very unpleasant still. read more

Went here for the first time and loved the dim lighting. I ordered the ribeye. I have never had a steak that I could say changed my opinion of how a steak should be cooked until I tried theirs. The steak melted in your mouth but was also oddly refreshing due to the pineapple marinade, I was put off a little by the idea of a pineapple steak but holy crap was it amazing. A few ladies and myself came here on a Monday night for my birthday celebration. The crowd was decent it wasn't hectic at all. We were sat in a booth near the kitchen. We were greeted by our waiter , no issues ,ordered our drinks. While waiting on our drinks I opened my phone to check a video my kids had sent me. While I was doing so a manager by the name of Mackenzie walked by and asked me to turn my phone down as if I were 4 years old. I honestly blew her off because I really didn't believe she had just done that. My phone was definitely not loud and it wasn't disturbing anyone around me. There was only one table next to us that was occupied and we could hear what they had going on their phone. It didn't bother us at all. They also were celebrating a birthday . We were all astound by what she had just done and couldn't believe she actually said that . My sister then proceeded to ask to speak to this lady again. She told us someone had complained about my phone being loud which was merely impossible. Our waiter Todd had no idea about what occurred until we brought it to his attention. After we asked the manager why she would say something like that it became apparent that the situation was discussed upon other workers . We felt extremely uncomfortable at this point as to where we could not speak at a certain voice level. My company sang happy birthday to me very quietly . It was probably one of my worst experiences ever and I would definitely not return to this location . I've never in my life been told to turn my phone down. If I had known we were going to a library I would've tucked my phone in my purse for emergencies only. read more

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at bartlett's on Saturday night. This is my Favorite restaurant and I will sadly probably never go back because of how the hosts and manager made us feel. let me elaborate. My boyfriend and I plan a perfect date night which he so wonderfully surprises me by picking my favorite place to eat (we usually go for special occasions because all though normally worth it, it is pricey). We show up early because although we had a reservation we figured we could be sat earlier by sitting outside (which after being a loyal customer for 5 years) has never been an issue. We get to the host stand and she surprisingly says we can only have appetizers and drinks on the patio. (Uh?) So we go out to the patio, have an app and a couple drinks we have a wonderful server named Jordan, who then asks if we want to go ahead and finish ordering. We should have just went with it and said yes but instead we told her the hosts said we could not have dinner outside. So she kindly said she would go ask and see what she could do. Mind you at this point the patio is empty, no one is waiting to be seated and our actual reservation time is coming up. Jordan comes back and politely says no, the manager won't allow it. But we can keep ordering apps and drinks. At this point I'm pretty pissed. The weather was perfect, and I have always sat outside there. I mean why have a nice patio and not allow your patrons to enjoy it? So the host comes up to us to ask if we want to get sat for our reservation. We say no, if we aren't allowed to have dinner on the patio we will happily go somewhere else that will. She sends the manager over who almost rudely and very begrudgingly says he will make this one exception just this once and allow us to eat outside? We would have walked out if our server hadn't been so wonderful. How much of a freaking inconvenience were we to you? 2 very nice people, nicely dressed, ordering quite a bit of food and drinks, who always rave to friends about the food and service. You made some loyal customers feel like crap. Your demeanor was completely out of line. You should have been happy to have customers period. Not push them away. What kind of business are you trying to run? Our server was more than happy to accommodate us, it didn't seem too busy and we even said we didn't care if we had to have slower service by sitting outside. Just found out that this restaurant is Houston's by another name. Naturally, it was a wonderful experience! Impeccable service upon entry. Open kitchen so you can see and smell everything as it's being prepared. Delicious lunch menu. Seared tuna salad, french dip sandwich, homemade veggie burger, salmon, trout, rib eye, filet mignon and more. I had the petite filet and it was cooked to perfection. Subbed the wilted spinach for a side salad with garlic-ranch dressing. My group also shared the spinach and artichoke dip and the smoked salmon appetizers. Have you ever had high expectations of having a great meal with an old friend only to be disappointed by your server from the get go? Well, I have. We arrived today around 3:30 pm and the restaurant was basically empty. Our server was prompt at arriving to our table and seemed in a hurry to take our order . We told her we needed a few minutes. We were already planning on dessert (who doesn't?) and wanted to order our entree accordingly. We asked about dessert choices first and she quickly rattled off what was available and was gone to retrieve our beverages. She returned - we ordered- said we planned to share an entree as we going to have dessert (duh!) Again, she seemed ready to dismiss us, but took our order and skedaddled. A different server returned with our food -I thought-"ok.. shift change.. I guess I can see why she was in a hurry" We ask 2nd server for an extra plate. We wait... we eat our salad....we wait....we wait....I notice first server is still here involved in a staff wine tasting in the corner ... 2nd server engaged on some small task.... we wait... finally I have to stand and wave second server over and request the extra plate a second time. First server returns ( she's still here !) later and asks what else we need-I ask for printed dessert menu - her reply-"we don't do that -I told you already what we have" our menu changes often .... wow- we ask for another verbal rundown of dessert- again- it's rattled off - I know I should decline dessert after such rudeness- but we REALLY want dessert. Dessert comes, coffee comes and lo and behold server is friendly! Could it be she's know a tip is coming? I never tip less than 20% -but this time I just couldn't . If management cares to reach out I have her name. Bartlett's - your food is tasty, your decor is nice- but there's better service out there. read more

I never went to this place when it was Houston's so I can't say anything on the comparisons people are making. What I can say is that Bartlett's is a very nice, albeit a bit expensive, place to get a high quality meal. We have been here about 5 times in the past year, so they must be doing something right. The steaks are always juicy and cooked to my liking, which is great. The service has always been friendly and well paced. The atmosphere is also great. The place has a sort of 'upscale lodge' kind of feel to it. It's just a pleasent restaurant to walk into. Last night we went and had some fish special with some popcorn shrimp on top, which was pretty dang good. We also tried the ribs for the first time thanks to some coupon we received in the mail, and I am so glad we did. The ribs are super duper tender. They just fell right off the bone and there was a perfect slight char on the outside. The ribs are not what I would call Texas Style because they were obviously basted with some sweet sauce, which isn't typical for ribs around these parts. However, I'd be damned to find ribs that were better cooked than these were, and that makes all the difference. I still perfer Salt Lick ribs, but these ribs were no slouch. I can't really say much else. If you want a really tasty, well perpared, fancy-ish dinner, head over to Bartlett's and enjoy. You shouldn't be disappointed. I cannot believe that I am going to write a whole segment on a lunch of vegetables, but I really just had to try a good number of their side dishes... plus, their menu was very veggie-centric. Bartlett's appears to be a great eatery, conveniently located in a busy, but not restaurant friendly neighborhood. In the busy Anderson/Burnet shopping center, it feels that a Chili's would fit in perfectly. Luckily, Bartlett's has set up shop and brought a very upscale Chili's feel to the dining scene. The menu is fairly standard and sandwich and comfort food-based. The offerings range from roasted chicken to handmade veggie burgers. I went with the vegetable plate. Although I am somewhat of a carnivore, the mix of plants bordered on amazing. The steamed Brussel sprouts were fresh, and not the least bit bitter, though they could have used a hefty hand of seasoning. The tangy rich red cabbage offered a couple dollops of creamy goat cheese, and would have sat perfectly as a side for meat. The wilted spinach with a touch of Parmesan had a pop that really gave testament to the freshness of the ingredients. The two tomato halves were juicy and very sweet. The creamed corn was a bit disappointing. The plate was certainly, expensive at $15, but the quality really made up for the steep price tag. The Saturday/Sunday-only Texas burger offered loads of freshly shredded cheddar (you can see the moderately curled strands), freshly chopped onion, daily hand-ground beef, and an adequately dense bun. Great burger overall, but they forgot the firehouse chili. We later got a little dish of it, but it was actually somewhat bland. Also, I would have preferred a touch more salt on the beef. Bartlett's produces some delicious and near perfectly crafted food, but I think that the prices are certainly on par with the offerings. Y'all I love this place. My boyfriend and I stumbled in one night. We live pretty much right across the street and decided to try something new. So glad we did!! We pretty much sit at the bar one a week and order a Rye Old Fashioned to start. If they have the artichokes -- GET THEM. Hell get two orders. I call ahead to make sure they have them, they are THAT AMAZING! We sometimes just get an order each and have that as our dinner. However, generally we get them as appetizer and share the French Dip & Mushroom Swiss Burger mid-rare. The food is always outstanding as is the bar service. I love this place. Old-school steakhouse done perfectly, with a dark, sophisticated vibe and consistently amazing food. Whether dining casually at the bar, or enjoying one of the cozy booths, Bartlett's has a very posh but relaxing atmosphere. It's a bit expensive, but the value is extremely high. Steaks are always done perfectly, the burgers are awesome, and the grilled artichoke is the best in the city. The bar program is pedestrian, and the liquor selection is basic, but they make decent classic cocktails. Not a great place for whiskey drinkers though, which should be remedied. Went back again and tried their fish sandwich...It was top notch. The place is pricey and perhaps your money hits more value at another establishment if you plan on dropping $25-30 a plate for some high end dining, but dropping by for lunch, or sticking to a few lower end staples such as a burger, or fish sandwich like I plan to, its worth it. I could think of alot better places for a high end seafood or steak meal though I plan to try a steak here at some point to see. read more

It was birthday weekend so the hubby and I went out for a delicious dinner. As we drove I dug through the yelp reviews and noticed that "proper dress attire is required" and was like oh hell....We were dressed nicely, but were we properly dressed? Was a baseball hat acceptable? Jeans? Yes and yes. Don't come in here in like flip flops and a ratty tshirt and you should be fine. We were seated in the bar and order the mushroom pate. It was great, but I think I would have preferred the spinach and artichoke dip..next time! For drinks I had the Pimm's cup because I'm a huge sucker for cucumber and mint in cocktails and this had both. Hella refreshing and comes in a pint glass. For dinner I ordered one of the specials, the striped bass and hubby ordered the bone in prime rib. Really tasty. The fish was delicious and lemony and buttery and the wilted spinach was perfect with it! The prime rib was great. Not the best I've had? But by no means bad. For dessert we had the Pot au Chocolat de l'orange. Super rich. Great way to end the meal. Complaints? This nice restaurant has a television in the bar area. One patron came in to watch the game it seemed and you would swear we were at the football stadium he was so loud. Not necessarily the restaurants fault but I think it would have been appropriate for a manager to ask him to quiet down (especially after we mentioned the intrusion to management). What a marvelous dining experience. We were big enthusiasts of Houston's/Hillstone in Los Angeles, and when we stepped inside, we immediately were reminded of it. Turns out that this did indeed use to be a Houston's! We had the grilled artichokes to start. So delicious! You get 3 artichoke halves, which is perfect for 2 people, and a delicious remoulade. They also kindly give you warm hand towels to wipe your hands with. My husband had the prime rib, which he enthusiastically proclaimed was the best prime rib he'd ever had. I had the chicken with apricot glaze, which was tender, juicy and flavorful. For dessert, we originally shared the orange chocolate pot de creme, which was just heavenly. Feeling a bit indulgent, we then ordered the key lime pie as well. Both were wonderful, although the pot de creme is now on my list of top 10 favorite desserts, anywhere. Hands-down, one of our favorite restaurants in Austin. We go here the same day every week and it is often the highlight of the week. The reason Bartlett's is great: the service and food are both FANTASTIC. Special shout-out to Stephen, the best bartender in Austin. Bartlett's is one of the few places that you can order pretty much anything on the menu and it will be excellent. Steaks. Burgers. SALADS. Fish. Pork Chops. Tortilla soup! All top notch. They also do not mark up the wine much at all. For example, one of our favorites is only $30 at Bartlett's. The same bottle is $65 at Eddie V's. Hit Bartlett's up today with a group of coworkers. I had bever been to Houston's when it was here and honestly drive past this place quite a bit and never noticed it before. My coworker had a coupon for a rack of ribs so we joined him in our adventure. The ribs were tender and had a smokey flavor, they came sauced which is typical for a steak place. Service was good, the rest of us had burgers and they were tasty. I love Houston's. We went for dinner again tonight and the service was excellent, as always, whether you sit in the bar or at a table. All the waitstaff is very professional and everyone helps one another out. See a water glass empty even if it isn't "your" table? Fill it! We love that. Such a relief to not have to worry about service. Food is also very consistently good. I had the cheeseburger (again!) tonight. Ask for it medium well and every time, it will come out with that thin strip of pink in the middle, as medium well should be. My husband had the halibut special. He was drooling it was so good. Spinach dip - worth every penny. I highly suggest going on a Wednesday or Friday when you can get the Tortilla soup - soup of the day. It is the best around. Something to dream about... yum. Have also had several of the desserts - all excellent. Even the Key Lime Pie doesn't disappoint, and as a Florida native who KNOWS Key Lime Pie, I can tell fake from real. Oh man, is Bartlett's good. It used to be a Houston's, and the quality seems to have held up with the change to an Indie restaurant. All I ever get are the ribs, and that's all I ever need. They are awesome, falling off the bone, tender and tasty. The cole slaw is actually worth taking the time to eat as well, as are the skinny fries. My wife loves the Polynesian steak-thingy, and the salads. My son didn't really go for their chicken strips, but my wife and I loved them! Man, they are good--this is a long way from McNuggets. We end up here fairly often because it's only two blocks away, and whenever any of our parents come up, this is where they want to go. Can't say I blame them, and I never try to talk them out of it. It is, of course, expensive, but you knew that. It's also got a nice bar--I've hung out there a few times waiting for a to-go order. They have fireman's 4, and they'll go get Live Oak beers from the back if you ask nice. Great experience nearly every time, and they are good about kids. I only had one issue, a couple of years ago, when I made a reservation and they tried to seat us at a bar table. Sorry, but that is unacceptable when you are treating the in-laws to a fine dining experience. I protested to the hostess, and she found a table in the dining area after a short wait. read more

Had two great glasses of wine (was happy to see Benton Lane Pinot Noir, one of my favorite Oregon Pinots), an excellent caesar salad (whole anchovies were a nice touch), and a great ribeye. The ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium rare and while it was super flavorful and tender, it was surprisingly non-juicy. Not really a complaint, because again, tender and flavorful, but it was kinda weird. The baked potato was the one lame thing. Way too big with way too much unmelted cheese and some mediocre bacon.
