Bartender was total jerk when he said last call was 6:45...then it should say 6:45 on the website. I've enjoyed many of happy hours, where the bartender graciously came up to us right at the end to put in our last order. I asked to speak to the manager and he was very nice and made me a drink himself. He did say last call is at 6:45 but they should either change the hours on their website to 645 or put a caveat that last call at 6:45. read more

This is a good place for late night snacking and I already have my favorites. Teriyaki Ika is tasty charred squid with not to chewy texture. Wasabi Tiger Prawns are lightly battered and have a nice kick and sweetness from the wasabi sauce The chicken lettuce wraps and shrimp and pork in wasabi wrappings are also tasty, but the above left me a better impression since I don't see that in many restaurants. I really liked my rolls: Fahrenheit and Nemo! My favorite drink was the lychee martini! Yum! Only reason it is not getting 4 stars is service is kind of slow. Finally got to try this place downtown! Came on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't too packed and got seated right away. Very cozy and modern space. We had a great server. Happy hour is 3-7 and reverse happy hour start at 10. Even though I'm not a huge sushi fan, they have plated dishes. Mine did not disappoint! Starters- try the garlic chili edamame Cocktails- mangotini yum Dinner- yaki soba noodles (best stir fry and balance of flavors I've ever had!!): the dish comes with chicken but asked to do beef (as I need my cow) and the chef accommodated ThANK YoU!!! My wife and I arrived here at about 7:00pm on a Friday night. We had a reservation but decided to sit at the bar since we like the vibe more there than at a table sometimes. Our bartender was a nice guy who was helpful and engaging despite being slammed since he was the only one back there. I ordered a Maso Canali Pinot Grigio which was warm and then switched to their House Chardonnay which was also off temperature. I drank about 1/3 of the glass of each and was done. That pretty much took me out of the wine game there so I stuck with water after that. One thing a restaurant needs to do is keep their wine temperature on point. My wife ordered a Tito's and Soda which she said was good. We went with several items since we like to try a lot of things and their Happy Hour really is a nice deal: Agedashi Tofu: Pretty interesting and the sauce adds to it. Edamame: It was basic edamame which is what you expect. Seaweed Salad: My wife enjoyed it and said it was balanced. Albacore Sushi: It was decent. Temperature was ok. Bacon wrapped Scallops: Nothing special. Very small scallops. Japanese Meatballs: Good but nothing spectacular. Basic flavor. Pepper Tuna: I enjoyed this a lot. The pepper adds to the flavor profile. Austin Roll: Large roll with plenty of fish, good flavor, would recommend this. Samurai Roll: Another large roll that was well put together and enjoyable. The total for all of this food and 3 drinks was $72 without tip which is really about as good as you can get for happy hour sushi. This the first time coming to Barchi Sushi and it was an experiance. Their Happy Hour menu is great, they have plenty of cheap drink options and food items. We arrived around 10:30pm they had a DJ playing music, which I loved so it was a very live atmosphere. We got seated within 5 minutes. To start to drink I ordered a cucumber martnini. Tasted so refreshing and hit the spot! For an appetizer we got the fried calamari. Let me tell you these were pretty amazing. Squeeze a little lemon over them and take a dip into the sauce they come with. Yasss! They went quickly. Also ordered some Dynamite Mussels. Comes with 4 mussels. They seemed to be chopped, mixed with a few other things and cheese. Definitly interesting. The flavor was creamy and savory. I enjoyed them. Of course have to order some sushi. So we got the Nemo Roll. I cant remember exactly what was in it, but I do know that it was soo delicious. Tasted so fresh and chewy. We had to order another roll! Just for myself I went ahead and ordered a skewer of octopus which comes with 2 skewers. They were grilled baby octopusus. So like a smoky pepper flavor. I recently went on a work trip to Austin and was craving sushi. A coworker of mine told me about BarChi and so I set off around 6pm on a Wednesday! It was fairly busy but I only waited for less than 5 minutes or so and was seated at the bar as I was on my own. I had the shaggy dog, king salmon sashimi, and the spicy edamame! The lighting inside is somewhat dark, so if you have trouble seeing in not-so-lit environments, do yourself a favor and sit close to a window or right next to/under a light. There is plenty of seating space. Moving on to the food, the sushi was good, nothing really special or that stands out. Prices were a little on the higher side, but that makes sense since BarChi is located downtown. There's nothing really above and beyond about this place, but it's still a good place for sushi. The Mojitos are TASTY! I ordered the spicy salmon roll and the tuna pizza. The roll was very good, and did not take long to be prepared (as opposed to other places like RA Sushi, who seem to take a long time no matter when you go). The tuna pizza is quite literally just tuna on some pizza dough, which, if you like raw fish, is pretty good. Great happy hour!! I used to go here after work a lot. They've got affordable drinks and food- although I wish it was a bit cheaper, it's nice that the happy hour is nearly all night (due to the reverse happy hour that happens after happy hour) the appetizers are really really good and there's so much to chose from. The crispy calamari is definitely the move if you're going to just get one. They're all great to share. The rolls during happy hour are cheap and they're so filling. After an app, and a drink, I can only eat like half of the roll. They have so much variety during happy hour, it's crazy. Also the drinks are delicious!! I always get the lychee martini because it's so flavorful and you get the lychee in it as well, with a little plastic sword that's adorable haha. The happy hour menu is very extensive with a variety of appetizers, sushi, rolls, and skewers. The baked mussels were average tasting and tastes like it has way too much mayo on it. The octopus and pork toro skewers that we got were average as well; the pork toro was very bland, almost like there was no seasoning on it at all. The seared peppercorn tuna says it came with a creamy sesame dressing, but it honestly looks like and tasted like balsamic dressing. The only good thing I'd say is the nigiri pieces were good and fish was fresh. Service was also pretty slow overall as well. BarChi has been one of only two restaurants, that I have taken my children too, or been with friends, in over a year. Everytime I'm in, I'm either at the bar, or specifically ask for Alice. Both always offer stellar service, and stay on top of making sure the customer is well cared for, and comfortable. I have seen Alice make sure patrons are following dining guidelines. It is such a relief, that she handles uncooperative patrons, with grace, even to her own discomfort. For these reasons, I will have/will continue to come here. Happy hour makes me happy. Especially when these hours include sushi and drink specials. And especially when these hours are all day on Sunday! Bar chi does happy hour right by having daily happy hours, as well as reverse happy hours and all day Sunday specials. The prime downtown location makes this sushi spot a perfect place for pre- night out festivities. Get your yummy sushi fix and some $2 sake bombs with some friends and head out to town! This night I tried the Austin roll and chi roll. The chi roll was my favorite, but Austin roll had just as much fish and was fully satisfying as well. The rolls here are average in fish portions and a little above average in the quality for as trendy (and thus less authentic) as it is. Drinks can be pricey once you realize how many you'll probably end up ordering, but the lychee martinis and sake bombs were the favorites of the table. Because barchi is such a popular spot, service and wait times are sacrificed majorly. We waited at least 25 minutes before having a server even approach our large table and also waited a while for our food and drinks. In addition, some of our orders were forgotten, but given how busy it was, it's a little more understandable. Thus my rating is pretty average- I still encourage you to visit if the opportunity arises though! You may get better luck on your visit. read more
