I came here for their happy hour and the sushi is pretty average which was a bit disappointing. I was also excited to try their Lychee Martini, but it was not that great. I felt better knowing I didn't pay full price for it, but at least I gave this spot a chance. Only reason I'm giving them 3 stars is because the service was great. Very kid friendly, I came with my 12 year old for his birthday dinner and the server was very nice and gave great recommendations. My son LOVED all of them with her top recommendation, the Samurai, being his absolute favorite. I ordered a Lychee Martini (pictured with the single spring roll and eel sauce plate) which was exactly what I would expect it to taste like. The only hiccup we had was that the parking is pretty complicated. Directly across from the sushi restaurant, the cars all had boots on them, so I would recommend the AMLI parking right behind the restaurant which is validated with a sticker. This is easily one of the more impressive sushi spots in Austin. I just learned of it and I'm excited to go back! Happy Hour pricing is fantastic and a good intro to their offerings. The rolls and sushi/sashimi we had were all well crafted flavors. I love it when the chef adds a little something to the sushi/sashimi while still highlighting the flavor of the type of fish. I've been here three times now and have had a great experience each time. I would say this is the perfect place to go downtown if you don't feel like paying $200 on omakase or upscale dining, but you still want a nice lunch or dinner. They have some happy hour deals and a great selection of sushi, apps, and drinks. I've never had to make a reservation which makes things easy. Been coming here for over a decade. Glad to see it's still just as good. I come here for their golden lion role. Something about the lemon slice that really makes this roll one of my favorites in town. We came on a Saturday night at 8pm with a rezzy and our table was ready. Service is great and food comes out fast. It's always really loud here but the music is good and it's the downtown party vibe. It's very dark inside as well. I hate to leave a negative review but me and my friends had a very below average experience here last night. Overall, the food was fine, nothing to complain about but the service was genuinely terrible. I arrived a little after my friends so when our server came out to take our order I wasn't completely ready so I apologized and ask if he could come back in a few and that I would be ready. I don't think he came back outside for 30 minutes. At that point I ordered my food and I got one item about 30 minutes later and then my other item 30 minutes after that. So total, I think I waited about an hour and a half to get all of my food. To add to the experience, we were sitting outside and when my friends arrived a bird pooped on our table and it apparently made a big mess. That was obviously no one's fault so we weren't upset at all but the waitstaff was not very helpful. Then it happened again later and the bird pooped on my friends head very unfortunate but our server did not care at all. I had dinner last night at BarChi Sushi before the Sarah Millican show at ACL live and it was a very pleasant experience. I was signing a bone I was able to take advantage of the happy hour from 3 to 7 PM. They are not only sushi rolls but there are specialty drinks and appetizers like calamari with sweet chili sauce . It was really delicious and perfect portion sizes. The service was very pleasant. Jasmine was really on top of things. The ambience is relaxing and the low lighting was perfect for winding down after a stressful action pack day. I'm already planning on coming back. Definitely love the rainbow roll, which is on the happy hour and deep fried calamari. They also have vegetable tempura, which was delicious as well. I wanted to get sushi happy hour, and barchi is probably the place to go for just that. I went on Sunday where it's happy hour all day. Because of this, you cannot put down a reservation for Sundays (which makes sense). I called the day before to confirm this and they were more than happy to let me know that I could call them to see how busy it was on Sundays before coming. I decided to go 30 minutes after they opened but was surprised at restaurant being more than 50% full. The place is naturally dark inside, so I would recommend eating on the patio during nice and bright days. However, be prepared to put a card down for that. The place is casually nice, not fancy or intimidating, but nice enough to meet up with some friends at to catch up. Their menu is quite extensive. You can easily get something anyone wants on there. From hot to cold to raw to cooked, there's always something. Happy hour is mainly sushi, though. Seems only a very select portion of the rolls are on happy hour. Portions were nice, good selection of sake, sake bombs were a bit pricey for even happy hour but prices in general have been up all around Austin. The spicy hamachi tacos are something I would pass up. It genuinely tastes like 5% yellowtail and 95% wholly guacamole. Service was decent. Nothing to really complain here. Late night happy hour! What more could you ask for? My friend's first time at BarChi. She went a little overboard wanting to try many things. I started with the large Sho Chiku Bai unfiltered sake. My friend had a Hibiscus mint martini (the server said it was the least sweet martini). It was still fairly sweet. As a vegetarian, she ordered the Vegetable Tempura, Fried Spring Rolls, Seaweed Salad, Shitaki mushroom skewers and a Avocado roll which we shared. I also had a Sea Bass and an Escolar nigiri both were excellent. (If you don't know, use caution when having Escolar. Eating too much of this fatty fish will result in disastrous consequences. The only thing I would get again is their shiitake mushroom skewer. I might go again and just get that only. It had an umami and charred taste but still juicy, so good! I went on a Sunday so it's happy hours all day. The ceviche tostada was the worst. It was flavorless and fish didn't taste good. The bacon and scallop was decent. The dynamite roll crawfish was a bit underseasoned and it came out cold. The grilled squid need a bit more flavor. The coconut pineapple juice was more like coconut milk and pineapple. She was very knowledgeable about the rolls and took my friends dairy allergy into consideration when she was ordering. Happy hour is from 4-7 and the menu is amazing. It was nice sitting at the sushi bar. I loved watching the guys make our food in front of us. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant and outside.
