Mediocre at best, extremely inconsistent. I give it a 3/5 because I have actually had maybe two really good experiences but the other 3 times were so unfortunate and disappointing. The staff are nice, restaurant is extremely dark and loud. The food is just so hard to recommend when there are much better and consistent options. It's a hard sell since they aren't exactly cheap either but they are conveniently situated in downtown I suppose. I wouldn't recommend since there are better options with better price points but it seems like they try (sometimes). read more

We ordered the below: -spicy edamame (5/10) -hamachi jalapeño (5/10) -spicy Tuna roll (5/10) -spicy salmon roll (4/10) -lychee martinis (7/10) -spicy bloody sake mary (7/10) Everything was average, the hamachi jalapeño is not what I expected, it was almost seared and I thought it was going to be raw yellowtail. The edamame did not taste fresh and just had some spices sprinkled on top, it was not spicy as I expected. The happy hour prices are fair. Not only was this restaurant 5 minutes from our hotel but it had an amazing happy hour menu until 7pm. The options on the menu were perfect to try the popular sushi plates for half the price. We made a reservation on Yelp for a weeknight around 5:30 (probably not wise given the peak traffic time) to have plenty of time for happy hour, and parked in the AMLI Downtown garage (BarChi will give you 2 hrs. for $5). One of my fav places downtown, lots of delicious options for whatever mood you're in. They have a cocktail menu and great sake options. Each time I've come here I've tried different things and haven't been disappointed yet. I usually make a reservation to ensure ease of getting a table. I've sat outside, the bar, and in the general table area. There's not a bad spot. This time we tried the fried shrimp wontons, the spicy hamachi tacos, the skydiver roll, and the love at first sight roll, finishing w the fried cheesecake for dessert. When you see a review saying that a place has the "best happy hour in Austin", it would be natural to be skeptical. So I tried it. And hey - in terms of sushi - this is probably the best happy hour in Austin. Great deals before 7 PM and they're bringing real quality to the table. Some of my favorites are the seared escolar and their simple nigiri. The sake Bloody Mary is spicy and delicious, made with housemaid mix. In both of my experiences here the bartenders have been knowledgeable about the menu and very nice to interact with. This is one of my sushi go-to places for happy hours, especially on Sundays because they have all-day happy hour! A variety of different rolls, skewers, appetizers, and drinks are discounted, and their lychee martini ($9) is one of my favorite drinks there! I would it consider the seafood top-notch quality but you can't beat the relatively-reasonable prices during happy hour, so I recommend coming to try out some of their discounted items during happy hour before you commit to their full-priced menu if you're a bit hesitant. We sat outside, and although it summer we were able to get a good breeze. The inside was amazing. Clean, nice bar area, appropriately spaced tables, and not too cold AC which I appreciate. The food. Very good. Sweet potato fries were well balanced. I didn't eat the tofu - friends did- so can't speak to it personally but they loved it! The Nigiri is as delicious, each specific item individually. Ceviche tostadas we're surprisingly delicious and well presented. And the Austin rolls did not disappoint. Taste, flavor, presentation were all very nice. This is a really solid spot for sushi rolls. There's a lot of high end sushi in Austin but I've been searching for a more affordable place I can grab some rolls on the regular. This is the best I've found for that so far and they also have a great happy hour. We made a reservation for a Thursday night but it wasn't necessary. Our waitress recommended some rolls for us and we were happy with the selection. It can get a little loud in there so I'd eat on the earlier side if that's an issue. You honestly can't go wrong with anything that you order there everything is very tasty. I will say that the only downfall is they don't take reservations so you just have to wait it out. But other than that the place is nice and vibe is awesome in there especially at night and during the weekend. And the cocktails are just great. Barchi is my go-to for sushi. They're very consistent and their staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The bartenders are so nice as well, no one is ever forgotten at the bar. Our waiter really listened to what we wanted when we ordered (I always ask for modifications) and didn't mess anything up... And the food was pretty tasty, but the portions were kind of small and the food didn't BLOW ME AWAY. I ordered the Hamachi Kama, which is $17- the most expensive I have ever seen it on a menu. And sadly, when it arrived I was disappointed because it was smaller than the typical as well. That being said, the flavor was utterly terrific but it's hard to mess up hamachi kama (I cook it at home all the time). I also ordered a rolled wrapped in cucumber (salmon and avocado)... This was tasty but again, tiny. I could have easily eaten 5 of them, not even kidding a little bit. Salmon Skin Handrolls are something I ALWAYS order so of course I ordered those too and they were great but also I wouldn't classify them as salmon skin... It was basically a cooked salmon roll with salmon skin on it. Regardless, they were great (I wound up eating 8)... But if you're looking for crispy salmon skin, this is not it. Edamame... It's hard to mess these up... Although I've had bad batches in the past, crazily enough lol. This was not a bad batch though! My friends I were with seemed to really enjoy their food (octopus skewers, calamari, seaweed salad, escolar sashimi, a roll of some sort, etc), so that's good- and over all we were all generally happy.
