Food was great as always, fair prices and you know what to expect every time. We walked in without reservations but proceeded to get seated (around 5pm) and was told to leave by 6:15pm. I was shocked and didn't know how to react to that as I've never been told to leave a table by a certain time. Another thing to note it was almost empty when we got there. Have heard BarChi is the place to go for reverse HH and decided to try it out on a Saturday night. We knew there'd be a wait given we also didn't have a reservation, that's fine! we were told 30 min and the group of us that were already there sat at the sushi bar to wait so we didn't have to be in the cold. We had to split into two tables and one table was ready so we went to sit down but we were told a second table is just waiting to be cleaned up. that's fine! it's not really the restaurant's fault but the two tables they were hoping to leave to be our second table stayed an extra hour. our other half of the group ended up staying at the bar until a table opened up which was right about when we had finished eating. it just felt a little unorganized and it didn't help that there was a lot of people and noise to add onto it. the food itself was really good in my opinion and worth the HH pricing! i really enjoyed the pork skewers and roll. my takoyaki seemed a little uncooked as the batter was mushy and doughy but no biggie. we also ordered some drinks: lychee martini and the mango martini I believe. also good! the only other thing that made my experience 4/5 stars besides the table mishap is this table in front of us that was rather obnoxious. I know the restaurant couldn't have really don't anything but it did sour my night a little. it was clear they were drunk and did not care what they were doing. at one point, they took turns drinking soy sauce out of the bottle with their mouths on the container. it was very unsanitary and is a health risk for anyone who is using that soy sauce bottle afterwards. I did alert the hostess and hope that was taken care of. it was my first time at barchi and while the food was amazing, I am not sure I want to come back to that experience. the staff was really friendly and attentive, don't get me wrong, but I am not sure I want to feel like i'm in another college restaurant filled with people who don't know how to handle their liquor while dining downtown. read more

Cool downtown location. There is a bar upfront, and in the restaurant there are tables with chairs as well as a few booths. There is one step down to 90% of their seating so if you have accessibility needs be sure to note that on a reservation because there are only a few tables above the step down. The sushi counter has bar height seating. The food was all delicious. If you are like me and have trouble deciding the sushi dinners are a neat option to get a little of everything. The prices were fair for downtown. Staff was nice and responsive. My big complaint was how loud they keep the music. It was bar or club loud at 6:30pm. Went here for dinner on a Tuesday (party of 2) and were seated right away. Our server was really friendly and did a great job! The sushi is pretty good! It's nothing special, but it's reasonably priced and tasted good. I ordered the volcano roll and enjoyed it! Barchi has a wonderful happy hour menu that is both cheap and offers tons of variety. From what I remember, almost everything (including drinks) was priced under $6. There is also a lot of space so its a good place for larger groups to go to. The service is also great and staff is very attentive which was appreciated. Unfortunately, the food seemed to be lacking. As a vegetarian, there were weren't many options for me but I went with some sweet potato fries and the midori roll (the only specialty veggie roll offered). The fries were bland but the midori roll was decent. My only flaw with it was that the sauce it was sitting in was made from either wasabi or some really intense ginger which was unpleasant. It made everything it touched taste like wasabi. My boyfriend is a pescatarian and was able to try a good portion of the happy hour menu offerings. He did not seem to care for any of them. Overall, if you want a good deal on sushi and drinks with plenty of space, I'd recommend Barchi but the food isn't the star of the show. read more

Not doing any food I didn't care to bring on the Sake, so I opted in on the toni's. Several unique choices included the Lychee, cucumber and watermelon. My helpful tender pointed out all were sweet, so he suggested a Cosmo. A nice blend of cranberry and seltzer but to be honest I couldn't taste any vodka at all. I just had the Green Dragon, where the avocado finished each bite off, and the Spider Roll, which was different from the other ones I've had and I'm still trying to figure out how much I like it. The Calamari was more focused on the batter, so I was a bit disappointed with that. The best part of the meal was probably the Cucumber Chi-Lantro cocktail as it tasted exactly like a cucumber drink. Went to barchi yesterday for happy hour. Server was fine in a busy environment. No problems there. We ordered edamame and agedashi tofu to start. A little bland on the tofu but overall they were good. The problem started when we ordered sushi, we ordered an Austin roll, a Nemo roll and a French kiss roll. The Austin roll and the Nemo were tasty but the French kiss roll came after. My fiance bit into it and had to spit it out. There were pieces of wood (like from a skewer) inside of her roll and her mouth was cut eating it. We obviously told the server, who took it immediately and brought it to the manager. She came back a few minutes later and tried to tell us it was a deep fried leek (lol) and that she'd replace it or knock it off the bill. Obviously it killed the desire to eat there anymore so we opted for the refund for that roll. So that's it, no manager visit for an obvious mistake, no apology, and they tried to make us feel crazy by saying a wooden skewer was a leek. There's better places for sushi in Austin, places where you don't find wood in your meal. Edit: even your response here isn't great. So my standards I feel like are lower than most, because I'm so understanding because we've all been new right? We've all tried something new. Maybe it was this guys first time. I signal again, than ask the main bartender if the other guy is a bartender too. He said yes but he had tables. So I wasn't greeted when walking in but I'm on the phone so whatever. Took me an effort to get their attention once I was off the phone and available to order. I had my vapes on the counter top, because I was about to step out. Of course as a business they have every right to say something. But I just sat down. I hadn't even got my appetizer and they're down my throat. Like chill, I was gonna step out side. But the bartender Finnigan was clearly a stoner, but stuck up. That makes no sense anyway. Never going back. I'll stick to Umi Sushi instead. They're waaaayyyyy better and I highly recommend. Even Maiko is a better alternative than Bar Chi. UPDATE: Leo, was actually present during everything and this was not what happened. I never, cursed at finnigan, because why would I do that being industry? I didn't walk in, with my vape. It was in my purse, and I took it out right before I was stepping out. I, being industry would never curse somebody out for their policies. I asked finnigan for a manager, which he refused me. So that was the reason I called back and spoke to Jose. I did speak to Jose, I did not curse him out. I said, "if he's going to be so uptight, that he should probably smoke some himself". There was ZERO derogatory language during this interaction. Being the fact that I work downtown myself and it's a small town, I WOULD never conduct myself in this way. Which is exactly why I gave the restaurant the fact that they're entitled to their policies. I was never greeted or treated equally, period. And the thing that bothers me the most, is the fact that THEY assumed it was cannabis. We are in Austin, TX. In order to know, what's a cannabis vape in an illegal market, you literally have to actively smoke enough to recognize an underground brand. So, no.. finnigan is not correct, I did not curse him out. The employees are clearly using, what they "BAN" guests for. That's my only issue. And absolutely at no point did I issue a derogatory threat. ALSO, I walked out, and still left cash paying for my TAB. I was not thrown out, even when asking to put my vape away that I just took out of my purse. This isn't a "we're throwing you out scenario", this is a... y'all assuming I'm smoking cannabis, and enforcing rules without me even partaking in an illegal activity. The place saved my birthday! After a long day of indoor skydiving, we had reservations at a nearby place and were told I couldn't order wine because my new invisilign trays, mixed with my slight stutter, made my speech a bit off and I was assumed drunk. We laughed it off and walked around the corner and this place gave us a table with no issue. We were outside and there was not too much foot traffic, beautiful city sparkle around us. And I have to mention that there was a DJ inside that was better than we had all heard since 1999! The hot sake was delicious. The food was to die for. You have to try the fried shrimp wontons. We also had a few different rolls. Rolls can be tricky and all of them were a hit with us, so I'll have to not choose favorites. My husband loved the toro sashimi, and vegetable tempura. Our server (apologies but I have forgotten his name, but it was April 6th around 8:30pm and we had an outdoor table of 3)... he was amazing. Very attentive, friendly, helpful, sweet. Even gave me a birthday treat. But his wonderful personality was treat enough. We cannot wait to come back! 5 well deserved stars! read more

What a cute little place in downtown Austin! They have a pretty extensive menu including traditional Japanese dishes which I always enjoy. The baby octopus robatayaki was nothing but tasty, tender and amazing. I absolutely loved the summer roll from the appetizer as well. The sushi seem to have a little too much rice but it was amazing nonetheless. I was a bit concerned with COVID setting, the tables were all close and they were using the normal menus vs paper menus I have seen most restaurants use so that they can throw away out of abundance of caution. read more

The Bloody Saki Mary is so tasty and only $5 on happy hour great way to kill a hangover The volcano roll is also a personal favorite, it's a crawfish roll topped with tempura and it will definitely fill you up. A few other must try's - the ceviche tostadas, edamame & shishito peppers. The popcorn chicken is a great dish for kids or anyone with a simple palate and the ceviche is good too. This may be my sushi spot! They have a nice bar when you walk in by the hostess area. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. Their seating area was also very nice and they had plenty of space. The waiter was friendly, but nothing that I can say that was above and beyond. He did forget to bring me my siracha sauce so I just got up to grab it from the sushi bar. The sushi was delicious and they have a nice all day happy hour menu on Sundays including sake! BarChi is unique in their way of providing a reverse happy hour which seems to be daily. There is plenty of seating indoors and well as outdoor but be advised that seating is limited during the week. Our experience here was par at best. The sushi is great but the service is terrible. For a few rolls and a drink our small party of 5 was here for almost two hours. The service is very slow and the staff lacks to check in on the table. Sushi orders were a long wait and ordering between drinks and entree was very delayed. If you are looking to eat here I suggest ordering all drinks, appetizers and entrees at the same time or you will be waiting a while to get the servers attention. read more
