Bar Dough is outstanding. I went early on a Friday night and sat at the bar. We had outstanding service from Sasha, who had great recommendations on food and drink. They have a strong beverage program, which begins with aperitif-style spritzes, continues with a strong wine program and ends with a good variety of digestifs. I heartily recommend the Aperol spritz before dinner and having an Amaro Nonino with dessert. On to the food! Their octopus appetizer is currently the best restaurant dish I've had in 2016. The octopus was boiled then grilled, so it's tender and crisp. Paring that with eggplant caponata and crisp fresh celery was quite creative. If you're an octopus fan, you must get this! We also shared a pasta, the bucatini. There's nothing better than mixing a perfectly poached egg into a great bowl of pasta. The side of meatballs (made with ground chuck, pork belly and pancetta!) were quite good. You could go to Bar Dough and skip the pizza because the rest of the menu is so strong, but I wouldn't recommend it. We had the Signore Bianco pizza. I normally don't gravitate towards white pizza too frequently, but this one was too interesting to pass up. It featured creamed leeks as the dominant flavor while olives, pickled fresno chiles and stracciatella cheese were fantastic supporting flavors. I've wanted to try this place for quite some time. Arrived at 4:30 for Happy Hour and it was very quiet. Bartender let me know there was no beer because they couldn't keep it cold. Bummer because I wanted a Peroni. Not into wine and spendy cocktails so went with Cucumber Press, it was ok. My two friends and I each ordered one item of food each, calamari and two pizzas (one was off the happy hour menu). Calamari has a distinct garlic flavor, fair warning. Both pizzas finally arrived and both were burnt on the bottom and still limp in the middle, not sure how you can accomplish this but they did. Asked for crushed red peppers and Parmesan, got one tiny portion of each for all three of us to share, took time to get while we watched our pizza cool...they don't do shakers. Service was slow overall, and had to flag someone down eventually to bring the bill. We were told that they tack on 20% service charge for folks in the back of the house and it does not cover the front of house staff. All in $150.00 for 3 drinks and 3 awful dishes. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Such an amazing addition to the neighborhood. Chef Max, Manager Steve and the staff have really put together an amazing spot. The wood fire oven is NO joke and the pizzas are delicious. And so is everything else. They truly have mastered the idea of "elevated Italian". Speechless, because speaking can't be heard My husband and I are foodies and we live a block away from this fun little spot. Food- great but service to deliver is SLOW... It took almost an hour to get to our meal. The food was fantastic and the wine prices very reasonable. Bright vibrant atmosphere. The downside- you can't tell your dinner mates anything about your meal until you leave. It is SO NOISY!! The cemet floors and high ceilings make for an awkward screaming match or a creepy staring contest with others. Sign language lessons with the appetizer menu might be a great addition. I've been excited to come since I started admiring them on IG, but sadly won't give them my business. Went during another restaurant's pop-up and when we walked up to the hostess she didn't smile or say hello, she just stood there looking at me like "what?". After discovering the pop-up was sold out, she didn't ask us if we were interested in eating there or even give a hint of a smile. Nothing. I wouldn't spend my time or money at a business that has such an unfriendly, rude hostess. So disappointed. Luckily Uncle is nearby where the staff and food = amazing. read more

I loved Carrie in Top Chef, but the service tonight compels me to dissuade fellow fans from visiting the restaurant on an out of town trip. The flavors of the food we had were all on point: the roasted carrots and the sauce covering the chick peas and crunchy faro were divine, the pizza had all the right boxes checked, and the fancy toast left me wanting more and more. There were some odd choices with the dishes, though: the faro was lukewarm and served with raw carrot shavings on top, and the outer crust of the brioche of the toast was blackened until burnt. I would have overlooked these small imperfections, but our mains took over 50 minutes to get to us from the time we ordered, and the restaurant was not even full. We saw other diners come and leave before we received our main courses, and tables that arrived after us received both toast and pizza while we were waiting. Our server was very friendly, but I was disappointed that he didn't communicate that our meal would be late until I asked him about it. It was also very nice of the restaurant to offer free gelato for our wait, but we really just wanted time since we have an early start to our vacation plans tomorrow. read more

When you're craving Italian food but you don't want the slathering of garlic and red sauce on everything come here for season, thoughtfully prepared Italian fare. We visited on a busy weekend night and were immediately sat at the kitchen bar which overlooks the kitchen and cooking, much like a chef's table but inside the actually cooking area. I was so delighted and entertained by the tight ship the crew was running - very efficiently, too. The wood-fired oven was cranking out pizza after pizza and focaccia bread. The line was preparing entrees like a well oiled machine. They have a decent happy hour menu for drinks and bites. We ordered off of the main menu and split a pizza and some mezzaluna pasta. The pizza had a good coating of tangy tomato sauce with a blend of melty cheeses and pepper. The crust was perfectly chewy and toasty on the bottom. The mezzaluna, a small size, was indeed a very small portion, almost in a disappointing way. I got 6 mezzaluna in a clear broth with butternut and apple and non-detectable sage. It was definitely fresh pasta, not the best I've had but still tasty. I recommend coming here to share plates and be prepared to spend quite a bit of money because the plates again are small and you'll want a lot of them. read more

We strolled in for a casual date night on a Wednesday. The place was packed and bustling despite it being 8 on a weekday! I actually live within 5 minutes of this place but have never ventured in because... well, I don't know why. So glad I finally gave it a try! Good service, nice ambiance, and all the food was fresh & served hot (the ones that are supposed to be hot, at least). Ordered the meatballs antipasta, Commadatore pizza & bucatini pasta. HIGHLY recommend the meatballs. They were so phenomenal that when I went to go take a picture, they were already gone. Because I ate them. We've eaten at bar dough a handful of times and our most recent dinner has been the most disappointing yet. For $70 (with tip) we ordered two glasses of wine, the Squid ink bucatini, and a side of garlic bread. For that price I expected the pasta to be somewhat larger, but we found the portion size to be quite smaller than what we remembered. All in all when you come to this restaurant you're paying for the ambience and the location. read more

Had to make a $15 pp deposit for the reservation, which was fine however, upon receiving the check I learned they tip the servers an automatic 20% no matter the size of the party. This was kind of disappointing because the service was lacking tonight. Overall a good experience here despite a couple small issues. We had to try this spot as we watched Top Chef and were fans of Carrie. Our original table we were seated at was dripping water from the roof as it snowed earlier and the building has a flat roof. They moved out table, no problem. Service was pretty good in that our server was attentive and friendly. My drawback was that we put in the reservation it was my wife's birthday and they didn't acknowledge that at all. I don't need anything corny but I like it when places go the extra step to make the dining experience memorable and that didn't happen. Food was very good. The highlights to me were the Carne Crudo (Steak Tartare), Pork Shank, Steak, and Broccolini. I am sure the pizzas and pasta were good but we weren't in the mood. Each of those main plates could be shared as they were huge. The cheesecake was also good, a fun riff on it with rhubarb. Overall, tasty food, fun place. One of the best dinners we've ever had! It started with Bar Dough restaurant manager Erin, accommodating us with a wonderful table at the last minute. We were treated like kings and queens, with the most amazing cocktails and food. Our server Anthony, was so knowledgeable about the menu (and life), and great fun to talk with. We started with the burrata, served with warm pizza bread and the tasty Gem salad. We then shared the amazing pork chop with capers, the Cacio e Pepe (best we've ever had), and also the chicken with grilled lemon. We sipped on several of the house craft cocktails which were unique and wonderful. We were so impressed that the Bar Dough chef stopped by our table to check in with us...how special. All the while the most amazing service from Anthony and our food runner, dressed so stylishly in a suit. Thank you Erin and team, for making our anniversary dinner so special. I am quite fond of Bar Dough. Quaint Italian joint in the middle of a strip of hip restaurants located in one of the fastest up and coming areas of town (LoHi. Gosh, I hate that name). You can choose to pony up at the bar, sit at one of the few tables, or mosey on up to one of the community tables (I prefer the bar instead of making new friends at the awkward community tables). Wherever you sit, you can probably sneak a peek at the kitchen to see what goodies they're cooking up back there. The restaurant itself is small and intimate, but very bright and open. They have a TV over the bar playing movies, but the subtitles aren't on, so you better start reading lips. Service was super friendly up at the bar, and the bartenders know how to mix up a mean cocktail (or pour a nice and gentle glass of wine, whichever you prefer). The pizza looked absolutely delicious. With every pizza that was brought out of the kitchen, I was salivating and got jealous that I did not order one. Cheesy thin crust with the most divine toppings. I had to pick my jaw up off of the ground and wished that I could have asked the couple next to us if I could have a bite. No shame. The pastas are freshly made in house. They are simple, yet full of flavor. The bucatini is packed with tomato, sausage, basil, cheese, and a whole bunch of Italian stuff that I can't pronounce. The pappardelle is seasoned and sauced just right, and jam packed with fresh funguses (mushrooms). I'll be back to sample the pizzas (and possibly some fresh carb-filled pastas. Checked this spot out for a late dinner on a weeknight, and place was bumpin'. Luckily bar seats were available, so we snagged those! Started with the oven roasted carrots which easily could have been paired with a salad to make a lighter meal, but we were craving pasta, so that's what we ordered. I had the Spring Orecchiette which promised asparagus, peas, and sprouts: I got all that, but the sauce was surprisingly/disappointingly a "Kraft Mac and cheese" consistency. It had a nice spicy kick to it, but when I think spring, I think light and refreshing, not comfort meal. My man had the Bucatini which had a fresh mild spice tomato sauce with basil. Half portion pasta was appropriate to accompany the totally-delicious-would-get-again truffled potatoes because #carbs. Would return to try different things off the menu...and for the pizza! It was my birthday and wanted something special and following Top Chef Denver (Carrie was robbed).so went to this highlands spot. Since it is the Highlands parking is off street parking and it is tight. It was a great meal and was still happy hour (ends at 530pm) so prices were great. We had meatballs, pepperoni rolls, margarita pizza, bruchetta with fried chicken cheese and squid ink pasta with mussels and calamari. All great. Nice cocktail and beer selection. There was a spicy content in their marinara...no problem. My companion from NY loved the pizza. Surprise the bruchetta was my favorite. So delicious. We had a pair of great desserts. The beginning was a bit bumpy, we made reservations to sit outside and the table wasn't ready so we sat at the bar and grabbed drinks which was fine but we had to wait about 15 minutes before we could be seated to eat for our "reservations" one we were seated it was pleasant from there we are ordered the garlic bread and that was amazing ! Soooo good and flavorful it was like a giant bread with just the right amount of everything I also ordered a drink which was the. No.3 and that was supper food and there spritz were also really good I had tried the lemon and it was refreshing with the right amount of everything. Now for the entree I got the buticani dish and it was so good. It reminded me of a spaghetti but with a twist it was the perfect balance of sauce and noodles I love the tomatoes and the sausage it complemented the dish well, although the portion was small it was just the right amount with out being to overwhelming. The other caveat was the service it was a bit slow when it came to the delivering of our entrees but other than that the service was good and everyone was accommodating I would love to come back eventually especially for some of those good drinks/food that they have read more

Nestled between a few other restaurants in the Highlands, Bar Dough serves Italian food with an American twist. The night started off well with the opportunity to sit at the bar that overlooked the kitchen in the back of the restaurant, which I loved. No tables were available, which on a Monday night is pretty impressive. The chef started us off with prosciutto-wrapped shrimp, which was my favorite part of the whole meal. I enjoyed the brussels sprouts appetizer too, though for $13 it was very small. The roasted carrots appetizer was underwhelming, and included far more farro than carrots. The crispy rice cereal in that dish was a surprising but welcome addition. Unfortunately, the meal went downhill from there as I didn't enjoy either of the two entrees we ordered. The pollo al limone was incredibly salty, and the tagliarini just didn't taste that great. Though I didn't enjoy the food, our server was great. Visiting from out of town and this was recommended to us by a friend and I'm so glad we went! We ordered the garlic bread and a classic Caesar salad to begin with. Both were amazing and the dressing on the salad was one of the best housemade dressings I've ever had! For our main course we got the cacio de pepe and quattro formaggi pizza. The cacio was so buttery and just melted in our mouth (my husbands favorite) and the pizza was crispy and that garlic oil just made it. Our waitress was just amazing. She kept an eye on our orders and made sure we got main course right after finishing the appetizers. Gave us great suggestions on which wines to try and somehow knew just when we needed us. Both my husband and I highly recommend Bar Dough! Great food and the restaurant has a great vibe to it. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know here, folks. Bar Dough is Bar Do-licious. My husband and I came here on a rare kid free night. We had a reservation inside, but arrived about 30 minutes early and they were able to accommodate us easily. The patio was totally full, those lucky so-and-sos, but inside felt nice and airy too, so we took what we could get. We started with the garlic bread, which had a sumptuous texture and was honestly pretty subtly garlicky, and the burrata. The burrata -- which was honestly amazing -- was served with boule of the tastiest bread known to mankind. Thin crispy crust, chewy middle, and sprinkled with Maldon sea salt crystals (you probably don't even know it, but you love those things). The burrata starter is a 11/10 - don't miss it. For mains we got the scampi and the bucatini amatriciana which were both very good. We also had cocktails that were excellent. The only miss for us was that the chocolate dessert has undisclosed cherries in it, on it, and under it. If you like chocolate Cherry desserts, this is your jam. If, like my husband, you don't...Well, you don't. All in all, great service, great food, will absolutely be back. read more

I'm kind of embarrassed I didn't come here sooner. I've been hearing amazing things about Bar Dough for a long time. I finally came in to try it on a Saturday night for dinner. We made a reservation and my date and I were seated at a small table by the front windows. It was a little cold because of the windows but they had a space heater. I started with a glass of rose and the kale and beet salad. My boyfriend, who generally prefers his vegetables hidden or deep fried, tried a bite and then ate half the salad. It may be one of my new favorite salads. For entrees, I ordered the Short Rib Pappardelle and he got the Margherita Pizza. Per the usual, we almost always share our entrees :) The Margherita Pizza was amazing. The crust was perfectly cooked. Doughy yet crispy and the sauce had a lot of flavor. The Pappardelle was delicious, the short rib was tender and flavorful and paired well with the pasta. Even the mozzarella on the pasta tasted much better than normal mozzarella. The only thing I didn't like was the ambience. It was LOUD. I could barely hear my dining companion over the music. We both found ourselves leaning in and talking louder than usual. They turned the music down at one point but then it just went back up. I get that it's supposed to be cool and hip but just turn the music down a bit.... read more

I went there during HH this past weekend and it was a nice little spot tucked in the Highlands. I really enjoyed their bites on the HH menu - $5 for a huge Marg Pizza?! Amazing. The drinks were a little pricey - $7 for the Bar Dough Punch (correct me if I'm wrong) - although delicious but didn't seem as good compared to the $5 Pizza. Either way, i do recommend this place! How can you go wrong here? I came on a Sunday night with my friend and we were lucky enough to sit at a table overlooking the kitchen. I knew I wanted a pizza, but of course after looking at the menu I know I'm going to have to come back many times over to try all of the amazing food, I couldn't stop staring at all everything that was being prepped. I started with the cocktail number five, which included vodka, peach and prosecco. YUM! I was a little scared that it would be too sweet but it had the perfect balance. For dinner I went with the mountain man which had such a great flavor profile. As for the service, our server was on point, explaining the menu and patiently waiting for us to decide on what to order along with suggestions for everything. Wow, has this place raised their prices or has it always been so pricy for pretty average food? Friend and I shared $22 caprese salad to start. At that price point I assumed that it would be a substantial salad. Nope, thin slices of what looked to be one entire tomato, along with a bit of mozzarella. It was delicious however. I had cacio e pepe, and it was the strangest version I had ever eaten...more like adult Mac and cheese....rigatoni noodles drowning in butter and cheese. No pepper to be found. It was fine, but definitely not what that dish usually is. My friend had shrimp scampi for $44 (!!) which seems pricy for noodles and five prawns. The garlic bread was divine and service was good. Not sure I'll be back, there are lots of Italian restaurants in denver that are also good but provide more value for your money. read more

Bar Dough is a beautiful touch for this neighborhood! The restaurant is clean, modern, and cozy. I immediately noticed the white & red interior which looked very sleek and classy. Their bar is gorgeous, it looked like white marble. This place can get pretty busy, so making a reservation is recommended. They have an extensive & great beer, cocktail, and wine menu. My friends and I shared a bottle of lambrusco which was so so good! If you've never had lambrusco, it's sparkling red wine and I haven't met one person who didn't like it! We heard their garlic bread was addicting so we gave it a try but unfortunately, we were not too impressed. I think they went wrong with using focaccia. The slices were very thick so it was hard to take a bite. And the bread was so fluffy. When I think garlic bread, I think buttery, crunchy, slices. Not fluffy, soft, giant focaccia muffins. However, their pizzas were delicious and perfect for sharing! We shared the Margherita pizza & the Spicy 2.0 pizza. Both tasted fresh, with quality ingredients. The pizza sauce was very tasty and the crust was perfectly light and crunchy. They also gave us a bottle of chili oil to drizzle over our pizza which increased the flavor! Oh, and their Oven Roasted Carrots from the appetizer menu was out of this world! We don't even like carrots that much, but this dish blew us all away. The carrots were roasted perfectly, and the cumin vinaigrette and pine nuts gave the dish a very unique flavor. We were all fighting for the last bite! The only reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 was because the service was slow. We felt like our server disappeared a lot, for long periods of time even though the restaurant was only 60% busy. Their garlic bread was a bit of a let down. Such a quaint cute place!! My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate our anniversary and were treated so well. We had made a reso for the greenhouse. Once we got there, I asked for a table further back and they were sweetly accommodating. The food was really good!! We ordered the meatballs as appetizer (not pictured because we were starving), that were great but my boyfriend wasn't ready for the meatiness. Delicious dinner and excellent service! I love love love how many restaurants in the area have happy hour all week! We came in at 5:45, just before happy hour ended, and were able to get some drinks and an app on a discount. For food, we had the short rib papardelle, broccolini, meatballs, and garlic bread. The garlic bread was phenomenal, as well as the papardelle. Meatballs were okay, but the other dishes outshone it. Very good meal overall! I recommend getting some of the small pastas and sides to share, rather than getting your own dish. read more

My wife and I have been going to all of Juan Padro's restaurants since they opened.  The food is amazing.  Great drinks too.  They're some of our favorite restaurants in town.  We went to Mister Oso Saturday night and Bar Dough last night.  The reason for the one star on this review for Bar Dough is due to the incident we had last night with the manager of Bar Dough, Jessica.  For reservations, Bar Dough and Mister Oso use Tock. Tock takes a $10 - $15 per person deposit for the reservation so that if you don't show up, you get dinged.  Fair enough, we understand their reasoning. We learned after the fact that Tock doesn't refund you the money when you arrive. Instead, they apply your deposit to the final bill. This is awkward when you're going with another couple if you are trying to split the bill evenly because you don't even know. So, what are you supposed to do, call your friends and say, "Hey, you owe me $20 for the Tock fee."? However, when you make a reservation at Bar Dough, Tock explains via a text that you will be refunded when you arrive. This makes more sense. Our friends had booked the Bar Dough reservation so the $60 deposit was on their VISA. They needed to cancel due to an illness. Bar Dough was fine with letting us change the reservation from 4 to 2 people. However, prior to arriving there, the couple who made the reservation received a text notification from Tock saying that their deposit would be credited to our final dinner bill. Needless to say, we were confused as that is not what Tock says when you make the reservation. We wanted to make sure our friends who were not going were totally reimbursed. We asked the waiter if he could explain the policy to us. He asked the manager and returned telling us our friends would be reimbursed. We asked him why Tock would send a notification saying otherwise. He went back to the manager to find out. Jessica, the manager, came over very annoyed with us and abruptly said our friends would be reimbursed. When we questioned the notification from Tock, she was rude, confrontational and said what Tock did wasn't her problem. She did not listen to us nor did she understand why we were confused (it is hard to explain).  Honestly, all she needed to say to us was, "Hmmm, that's strange. I'm not sure why Tock would send a notification like that. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I will research this with Tock as we don't want our customers confused or inconvenienced. In the meantime, please have your friends who made the reservation verify that they were fully reimbursed for the reservation and if they were not, please have them call me and we will get to the bottom of this. I'm so sorry for the confusion." Instead she argued with us and told us to leave.  I was blown away.  We had just spent well over $100 for dinner and they automatically added a 20% gratuity (which was a bit odd and presumptive), but worst of all the manager, Jessica, was a total jerk to us. This was absolutely the worst customer service we have ever experienced. Our suggestion is if you have a question about your bill or Tock, do not talk to Jessica as she is incapable of handling confusing situations in a professional manner. read more

I had an awesome evening in one of the outdoor greenhouses. Not many restaurants use space heaters...instead they use propane and that's always been considered worse for the environment and not really effective. However, inside the greenhouse it feels as though you are in Italy, and at night with the lights on top it feels like a a starry sky. The food is everything Gordon Ramsey would recommend--no frozen, canned, microwave-heated, or previously cooked! The pasta is made from scratch and the regional menus (in my case the Tuscan menu) is based on the authentic cooking tradition from that specific part of Italy. The meal I had was all five courses and I would recommend not eating that day before or you won't be able to finish! It's ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I had the vegetarian option and flavors that I would never have thought had harmony really worked together amazingly! You can definitely tell they care a lot about giving you the best dining experience possible from the chefs all the way down to the best servers. Both the appearance of the dishes and the ambiance finish it off to perfection. The day menu is quite different than the regional flavors featured in the greenhouses and takeout. There is something for everyone here from fine food to pizza. Totally recommend as one of the best places in Denver (from a native)! Best pizza in town!!!!! Perfect patio situation. Great food, drinks and wonderful attentive staff. We feel super safe/great social distancing and toasty with the heat lamps. Cannot wait to check out the outdoor greenhouses! read more
