Baiten is quite literally a window on the street with a couple outdoor tables selling Japanese desserts and even some entrees. Definitely worth stopping by as their soft serve and toppings are quite solid, though I'd expect to drop over 10 bucks here even for just a sweet treat. Fruit Sandwich (4.25/5): Not too sweet and definitely worth trying if you've never had one before. The whipped cream was a bit thicker and tangier than I expected and the fruit is super fresh and naturally sweet. Kurogoma & Kinako Deluxe Sundae (4.25/5): Insanely smooth soft serve with a variety of toppings like silky smooth pudding and insanely rich black sesame sauce. The black sesame sauce was a little overpowering, but if you know what you're getting into, still a good time. read more

Baiten is my most favorite soft serve in seattle!! It's a small shop next to tamari bar, and is more of a grab n go spot, though they do have a couple tables and stools. I love the japanese flavors and they have the cutest fruit sandos! I have tried three flavors: yuzu, hojicha, and black sesame. The soft serves are $6 each which includes the icecream with syrup, but you can upgrade to a deluxe sundae for $11 which has more toppings (crackers, jelly). I think my favorite flavor is the hojicha, though the yuzu is super refreshing and is a hard flavor to find elsewhere. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area! It's the perfect treat on a hot day and is also good to share with a friend!! read more

No frills black sesame soft serve! The black sesame is perfectly concocted to add that nutty and bitterness to counterbalance the sweetness of the soft serve. I hope Baiten keeps trucking on and finds a permanent spot! read more

I got mixed feelings while it was pretty to look at and the swirl was perfect plus the Japanese owner could not be any more nice and friendly, I found it lacking a balance of flavour. The soft serve, while having good texture, did not have a memorable flavour and the hojicha syrup, while there is a lot, could have been stronger as well. Perhaps it was an off day or my tastebuds got weird, so will definitely come back to try a second time to see if this is a consistent issue or not. read more

Let's start with the matcha cream brulee - a masterpiece in its own right. From the moment you crack through that perfectly caramelized sugar crust to reveal the velvety custard beneath, you know you're in for a treat. Baiten's rendition of this classic dessert is nothing short of spectacular. The custard is impeccably smooth, with just the right balance of sweetness, and the crackling caramelized sugar on top adds a delightful contrast in texture. And then there's the soft serve - a true revelation. Baiten takes this childhood favorite to new heights with sampling innovative flavors and impeccable execution. The classic vanilla, matcha, and black sesame syrup are a taste sensation like no other. Each scoop is creamy and decadent, yet somehow light and refreshing at the same time. It's the perfect way to round off a meal after Tamari Bar , which is the Japanese restaurant next door read more

Wishing this place was not so far from central Capitol Hill and they opened later (probably owned by Tamari Bar, I get it.), because then I'd be coming back daily. It may be known for soft serve but there's so much variety. They even do lunch boxes! Though the "store" is just a takeout menu, you can sit on the patio of Tamari Bar. Their yuzu soft serve is one-of-a-kind and is a good balance of flavor if you're looking for something not too sweet. The soft serve itself is standard. I would love it more if it was Hokkaido milk! read more

Baiten is a Japanese sweet shop in Seattle that specializes in fruit sandwiches, Japanese soft serve, sundaes, and Japanese ice cream cookies. Also, vanilla soft serve is rich and comes with a variety of toppings, such as black sesame syrup and mango jelly. Tastes good and is reasonably priced. Will come back read more

Loved this place so much! This hole in the wall food stall not only offers specialty desserts like fruit sandos and soft serve ice cream, they also have bentos! We specifically came for the Matcha sundaes which were not only super yummy, but super cute and hit the spot on a hot summer day. Absolutely must try when in Seattle! read more

I give this place a 3.5. This place is decent and convenient if you're looking for a sweet treat. A good place to go once or twice but nothing I'd come back to more than that. It's not too special, as it is simply a milky soft serve with a sauce on top. Honestly prefer Indigo Cow in Wallingford for that milky soft serve flavor. Plus, they have the Japanese sweet potato topping which is AMAZING read more

This is a little stand right next to tamari bar where you can get variety of sweets. I wanted to get the ice cream but I was driving home so couldn't do it but Definitely coming back to try them. This is a take out spot, there is a couple of sitting areas in front but not much I ended up getting the mixed fruit sandwich and the egg karage sando. I prefer the fruit one over the egg one. The bread on the egg one was denser and it was pretty hard to eat as the ingredients inside keeps coming out. The fruit one was yummy overall but still messy. And the bread is softer. The lady working there was really nice and attentive. Overall, definitely coming back to try their ice cream and other desserts. read more

Baiten is a small basically order-up window/door for quick takeaway. From the menu it seems that they also have lunches/meals but I know it as a dessert spot to get soft serve ice cream or japanese cream/fruit sandos. They do soft serve ice cream (it's more American style soft serve) drizzled with syrup - I've had the matcha one and it's very good. Next time I want to try the black sesame. the pictures of the sundaes look really good. It's great for a quick dessert to walk around with. There are a few stand up tables right outside of their door if you want to eat it there. read more

Baiten is a small Japanese dessert shop operating inside the Tamari Bar Restaurant. They mainly serve soft serve, but also have fruit sandwiches and small pastries. I ordered the yuzu soft serve and it was perfect! The soft serve was light and creamy and the yuzu drizzle was citrusy and tart adding a great contrast to the soft serve. To top off those magnificent flavors, they add a small macaroon for a textural change! I'd recommend Baiten to anyone looking for Japanese flavored desserts or pastries! Do note that there is not any eat in space so all orders will have to be to go! read more

We went to this little outdoor stand that is attached to a temari bar. We were confused at first to where it was since it is literally a small store built into a building. As it was very cold and wet in Seattle when we went, we did not come for the beautiful swirly ice cream that they mainly sell, but we were very much interested in the fruit cream sandwiches and a box of their chirashi! The fruit sandwiches were delicious! I would say tie back your hair ladies, because the cream oozes out with each bite and I definitely got some in my hair! But I loved the mild sweetness of the cream in balance with the sweetness and juiciness of the mixed fruit (kiwi, oranges), and strawberry sandwich. My partner ate his hours later and said the cream and fruit were still fresh and tasty. The woman working at the front was very nice and patient as we navigated the menu. And we decided to buy the chirashi, which we were not expecting to be on the menu as a dessert spot! But the chirashi was absolutely gorgeous in presentation and also very delicious! I would come back to get the chirashi on its own! The fish was super fresh and the uni was tasty! A wonderful find to end our trip. read more

Friendly service, easy ordering system, however it's just a window so challenging to find a place to eat if it's raining and your car isn't close by! Hojicha soft serve: surprised at how much hojicha syrup was hiding in the middle of the soft serve! My first time here, so I didn't ration the creamy soft serve to hojicha syrup correctly. Sadsss. I'll get it right next time! Loved the flavor of the hojicha, just wished I added mochi to it or something Matcha deluxe sundae: enjoyed how matcha-y the matcha was and enjoyed the mochi! But the big matcha cracker/cookie texture was not my faves and felt a bit stale/hard? Overall, had lots of flavor and had a good amount of soft serve and toppings! read more

Baiten is a cute little connected dessert window to Tamari Bar. Really glad to have gotten to try this place. They do NOT skimp on servings; they generously serve up more soft serve than one might expect. Each serving starts with a base of vanilla soft serve, which acts as a canvas for the real star: the drizzle. I got the black sesame drizzle - it was really good. It elevated the vanilla soft serve to an extraordinary dessert experience. Not sure what the topping was on top but that complemented the soft serve well! read more

So excited to finally have tried this spot out! Their soft serve sundaes are so good! They have limited hours so my husband and I were happy to be in the area during a time that they are open. It's a little window next to Tamari bar, they have some tables on the side. Lots of delicious goodies to choose from! Soft serve, drinks, fruit sandos, and more. My husband and I shared the matcha deluxe sundae which had soft serve with their matcha syrup, jelly at the bottom, some kind of sweet soy crisps in the middle, warabi mochi, pocky sticks, a meringue cookie, matcha wafer cookie, and red bean on the side. We ordered their soft serve! It was very good. The only downside is they don't have indoor seating. Only outdoor seating available.

From San Diego visiting saw this shop on Yelp and gave it a try and this place is soooo yummy... the Match flavor reminded me of Japan .

Don't get me wrong: this is really good soft serve. It's undeniably thick and creamy and everything you're probably looking for in a soft serve. If I were just ordering a plain vanilla soft serve, this would absolutely be up there as one of the best I've had. However, they also offer flavors like matcha, hojicha, and black sesame (among others). I love Asian flavored ice creams, so I was obviously very excited, and my friend and I decided to share the black sesame soft serve. My issue is that all of the black sesame flavor comes from the syrup that they put on top of the ice cream. I was really expecting that the soft serve itself would be flavored black sesame rather than just the flavoring that they add on top. They add a good amount of it so that the black sesame is a pretty prominent flavor, but if you take the wrong scoop then you could just be stuck eating a bite of vanilla or a bite that doesn't have a lot of black sesame syrup. I appreciated that they really fill up the cup though! read more

Honestly pretty let down from this place. There was a line out the door so it's obvious people love their ice cream. I had the black sesame soft serve and it was vanilla soft serve with black sesame sauce. I thought the black sesame would be mixed into the soft serve. The soft serve starting melting pretty quickly, within a few minutes. Granted it was a warm day and night time temperature was low 80s, I didn't think the ice cream would melt so quickly. Soft serve was not too sweet, nice looking swirls but l wish soft serve was more cold or the structural integrity was better. read more

Wandered by and couldn't help myself from getting the Kuro-goma black sesame soft serve! The most amazing ice cream for a hot sunny Seattle day. The vanilla is creamy and not overly sweet. It's so refreshing with the hojicha syrup and was exactly the dessert we needed on this long walk. The owners and workers are so kind. A mentally unstable man was disturbing two people on the outside seating. He directed the man to the corner of the street, gave him water, and kindly asked the man to be on his way. He then went back to the customers and asked if they were okay. Such kindness but also professionalism in dealing with the situation to de-escalate was commendable. read more

I saw Baiten on a list of great restaurants owned by AAPI people and decided to give it a shot! I came by on a Saturday afternoon around 5:30, and there were about three other people there, so very short wait. I ordered my ice cream and it was given to me very quickly. The shop is a walk up window, with some small tables right outside in front for people to eat (standing only), which is very convenient. The soft serve was delicious. I appreciated that it's a vanilla base with syrup on it, and that not only is the syrup on top but it's also added to the bottom of the cup so that the flavor will be throughout. The matcha was great, strong but not too bitter with the ice cream balancing it out. The sesame cracker added also was a nice touch and tasted great! I'd be very excited to come back and try their Hojicha and their current mango flavors too! read more

Such yummy dessert! The soft serve was so milky and tasty. The matcha syrup added a nice matcha flavor without being overpowering. The soft serve + matcha combo was so creamy and sweet, it was so addicting and I couldn't stop eating it! They have little cube sandos for those like me who want to taste but can't finish a full sando. Connected right next to Tamari Bar sits this cute little dessert "kiosk", owned by the sweetest woman serving up a variety of different Japanese inspired sweets. I am a huge fan of black sesame, so I ordered the Black Sesame Soft Serve/Kuro-Goma. I thought the soft serve would actually come out to be black sesame, but the soft serve is vanilla, and dressed with a black sesame sauce throughout. While not what I expected, I really liked it! The black sesame taste was really strong in the best way possible, and I loved the little crunchy wafer it came with--lowkey wish there was more because it was the perfect pairing. My friend ordered the Strawberry Fruit Sandwich and the bread was baked perfectlyyyy--super airy and bouncy. I love this place and will definitely be back! read more

This review is for the Matcha Deluxe Sundae... First of all, what a beauty. I love how their sundae has different textures and most of the toppings are matcha-flavored as well. The soft serve is good but I find the flavor less milky than the soft serve I got from their sister resto, Hi Life. I love the combination of the almost-bitter green tea meringue and the soft serve. In terms of balance, I find the bottom half of the cup to be too rich and sweet without the soft serve. If the cup was meant to be mixed, it was hard to do so as you would tend to eat the soft serve with all the toppings. Overall, I would still recommend this place. I would probably just get the soft serve with matcha sauce next time. read more

Summary: Decent soft serve with tasty syrups Details: * Literal hole-in-the-wall that's part of Tamari Bar, selling various Japanese treats, including soft serve, fruit sandos, and more * Flavors for their soft serve come from their in-house syrups, rather than the mix itself * Soft serve base is a smooth and rich, but slightly too-sweet vanilla * Their syrups (the yuzu at least) are actually quite nice, and it's a bummer they don't sell jars of it as a standalone! Accessibility: The ordering/register area is a standard height, next to the taller display case of goodies, so ordering shouldn't be an issue. There are a few tables/surfaces for you to eat at if you want to stay put, but they're mostly standing height and not super accessible. read more

The servers were very kind and let us hang out and eat our ice cream under the cover of the roof during a sudden thunderstorm downpour that just seemed to get worse as we waited. The hojicha soft serve was really tasty! As it's a window, it's more amenable to grab and go, but I imagine the little barrel tables are lovely when it's not storming lol. So so delicious. I was adequately prepared from the other reviews to expect a vanilla soft serve with syrup(s) on top. I got the flight (soft serve + 6 syrups on the side) because, as usual, I could not decide which syrup to get, and I'm so glad I did! The black sesame was my favorite, but the hojicha, green tea, and yuzu were delightful as well. It was great to be able to pick and choose and put as much syrup as I wanted on every bite. Got the black sesame sundae. The ice cream itself was very delicious and there were these little jellies at the bottom coated in black sesame paste that's as so nutty and fragrant. Loved the chewiness of the mochi and addition of red bean paste. There was a huge layer of crushed up dalgona/caramel which I was not a fan of. I found it made the sundae over bearingly sweet and disrupted the creamy texture of the ice cream. They also pre make the cups and insert the ice cream when you order so I couldn't request it to not have any dalgona. Other than that I really enjoyed the other flavors of the sundae. Such a cute little shop around Capitol Hill!! The marketing for this place is amazing because I was just walking home and I noticed this place immediately because of the displays and signage.
