Enough is enough! I have gone to this place once or twice a summer for years. Probably since the 1990s. It has been my go to place for raw clams when I'm in western Suffolk county. A perfect place to go on the way back from Robert Moses Beach or a day of fishing off of Captree. Conceptually it is great. You sit on a porch (usually) under an umbrella and you drink cold beer and eat raw clams on a sunny day. Kind of like Pete's Clam Bar east. NOT! The place has become an abusive rip off and my visit there on Saturday was the last straw. $17 for a dozen raw clams?! Not oysters. Clams! I ordered an entree of sea scallops. The waitress (Vallary, who by the way may be the nicest waitress EVER!) asked if I wanted fries with that. They had sweet potato fries and I said, "sure." Well, my entree was about 6 scallops on a plate, neat! Nothing else. The tab was $28 for the 6 scallops and $1.50 for the fries. C'mon!! At that price there should be some veggies and/or a free side salad and the starch is part of the deal. I brought my kids for this meal, two tall male teens. Each had an entree and we all three had a dozen clams each. I had 1 cocktail. Total tab: $155!!! This place is fiscally abusive!! One son ordered off of the specials menu $31 for the sword fish with crab sauce. It was a small triangular chunk of over cooked sword fish with a sort of compote of onions, peppers and a small amount (perhaps a tablespoon) of lump crab meat in a cup. In good conscience I can't go back here. Also just to make clear the quality of the outdoor setting: The sunny porch is in a parking lot, facing a parking lot with cars pulling up to within 18" of your table separated only by a wooden hitching post style railing. Brooooo worst damn seafood restaurant I have ever been too. First off we waited 30 minutes to order to only get an attitude by this server and her quote while pointing fingers, " I ain't your server". Our server Annie (sweetest person ever) was so apologetic the whole night to my table and my friends table. After placing our order, food took 1 hour 30 minutes to come out which pissed the shit outta me and my 6 friends. My scallops were so bad to the point you could tell it was frozen for who knows how long and so rubbery like nahhhhh (came home to an upset stomach). My friends shrimp scampi was so watery and unseasoned like any amateur cook can make it better then the way this place did. At the end of the night, we divided into 3 bills and all the bills were overcharged and we had to wait an additional 15-20 minutes to get that settled like they really trying to scam 7 college students???? Overall review, WORST F**KING SEAFOOD RESTAURANT. NOT WORTH THE $160 TOTAL FROM 3 BILLS COMBINED. LIKE WE CAN BUY OUR OWN SEAFOOD WITH LIKE $50 AND MAKE A BOMB ASS MEAL. read more

I was hoping to find a good seafood spot in my area and i was optimistic that this would be a place i would come back to eat on the patio. The service much more polite than at Southside in Lindenhurst and much faster as well. However, I wouldn't spend my money there again on these sad portions. Well I didn't get food poisoning. So that's good. Shall I list the ways this place sucked: 1. We were a table for 6. They told us 20 minutes. We waited at least an hour. 2. Management seemed frantic. 3. Uncomfortably awkward waitress. But we honestly all felt bad for her. To be explained later. 4. Overpriced. $6 for a side salad that's made of romaine, 1 tomato wedge, and 2 slices of cucumber. Can u throw in a carrot? CHEAP as hell. 5. Their balsamic vinaigrette dressing is just balsamic. Don't order it or be warned that you will cough up your cheap salad. One friend didn't even eat his and another friend was choking. 6. LONG wait for our food. 7. EXTRA LONG wait for *drum roll please*...a diet coke. My friend ordered a coke at the beginning of our order and she didn't get it until after dinner!! A few bites away from finishing her dinner, she asked the waitress for her diet coke again. After 10 minutes, the waitress came back and said she had no more cups. No more cups?!?! So use a mug or a to go cup?! Or tell us earlier on that you couldn't give us a diet coke instead of an hour later. The waitress eventually came back with a to go cup of diet coke. But the diet coke was flat and watery. 8. Our waitress was kind enough to apologize at the end of our dinner but then we heard stories about how the kitchen was backed up and how everyone was yelling at her: kitchen, management, customers. Poor thing. Sounds like this restaurant is a mess. Not sure if this was an off night for service. Went to Babylon Fish & Clam for lunch yesterday. It was a beautiful 85 degree day & wanted to be somewhere close to the water & outside. As we walk up to the hostess stand at the outside entrance, there is a group of 7 wait staff eagerly awaiting customers to the EMPTY restaurant. The hostess then asks if we would like to sit in or out? I tell her we would like to sit in the sunny deck area with our umbrella opened to keep us outta the direct sun. She then tells us that she "really can't" cause those tables are all 4 seaters & we are only 2. There is absolutely NO ONE at any of the tables outside. I thought she was kidding. She says sorry with her head tilted & there is an uncomfortable silence as the 7 wait staff watch on quietly. Awkward! I turn to my wife & laugh, as we turn to leave. The hostess then reluctantly relents, & brings us to the outdoor table of our choice. We sat happily under our umbrella. As we listened to the screaming, gas weed whacker from the boat yard across the street. I have driven by this place since it was a dirty little shack back in the day. It appears pleasant enough as u pull up to it. The menu doesn't quite fit the place. Trying to be upscale & fancy with some dishes & are a bit pricey for a place that's about the size of a large shed or garage. There's one thing that attracts people to this place, & that's the outdoor seating near the water (not on). I ordered a bowl of gumbo. It was bland & watery. We ordered 2 apps, wings & calamari. Both small & on par with a amusement park menu. Complete with pre packaged blue cheese in plastic cup with lid on it. When asked for hot sauce, the waitress dropped a bottle of Tabasco on the table. I ordered grilled chicken with roasted peppers & mozzarella with pesto on a roll. It was a joke. The bread outweighed the ingredients. My wife had grilled chicken over a salad. It was wilted iceberg lettuce complete with the hard center part that ur not supposed to use. We would normally enjoy a few drinks on such a nice day. But, we were on the verge of walking out with every failure. We drank seltzer water & lemon. Thru the course of our meal, the outdoor area had picked up 4 other tables. All of them couples sitting at the 4 seat tables. Why would they even say anything to us about sitting out there to begin with??!!!! I guess they were gonna make a stand that day on no couples sitting at the 4 seaters lol. I noticed that no one really ate. The had a drink or 2 & an app & left. We had saw this debacle thru & we're now ready to get our check leave. As we're waiting for the check...Jokingly, my wife says, "imagine they charge us for all the seltzer water refills?" It was hot & we had 2 refills a piece. Bingo! Lmao!!! This dump charged us for the refills at $2.50 ea. I took pictures of our experience cause this place was so Cheezy & lame. It was nice outside that day so I gave them 2 stars for atmosphere. This place would do well with quick easy seafood apps & comfort foods & bar specials. Don't try to be something u ain't.....classy! Lol go have a beer on the deck and laugh as u watch the kid staff run around in bootlegged versions of Clam Power shirts. We are frequent customers to Babylon fish and clam for take out. I think its going to stay that way. We decided to go their on Friday for an early dinner, around 4:30ish. There were a few diners there, plenty of outside tables. We approached the hostess who asked if we wanted to sit in the sun or shade. It was a little warm so we opted for the shade. She gave us our menus and left. My husband and I decided what we wanted, closed the menus and waited. And waited. And waited. There were 3 waiters standing around by the hostess stand, with the hostess, talking and some fooling around. One start to approach us but went to the table behind me asking is there was anything they needed. Again we waited. The wait staff did look over at us several times, no one came by. A waitress came out from inside and started walking toward us, bypassing us for the table behind us asking if they needed anything else. OK. Finally I put $20.00 on the table, showing this is the tip they MIGHT get if one of them takes our order and I set the timer on my cell phone to see how long it would take for one of them to come over. Another waitress catches my eye, along with the money and timer and starts to walk over. OK she's going to take our order. NOPE. You guessed it, went to the table behind us again. I picked up my money, cell phone and my husband and I walked out. We were waiting there a good 10 minutes and not one of these jerks came over, introduced themselves or took our drink order. I overheard them talking to each other asking themselves how long were we sitting there. One waiter tried calling me back and I said "Look you are not the only seafood restaurant here. We are going over to Pier 44 thank you". (Pier is 2 doors down). I also said "by the way, tell the owner (I used her name) the we (I used our name) said hello". My husband went to school with her and used to do a lot of work for them. All I can say is this is what we can expect with this generation coming into the work force. I used to frequent this place when I was younger w my family while boating in the summer I remember it being so much better the food this time was okay at best my husband and I had a bunch of apps as dinner the shrimp cocktail was okay and the baked clams where terrible they where a bunch of mushy stuffing with very chewy little bits of clam and the seasoning was awful the scallops where tiny and over cooked the mussles where way too large in size and the sauce tasted like jarred sauce the seafood bisque soup was thick and clumpy and sooooo over salty I cant imagine the chef tasted any of his food before sending it out I think its time for a new chef I think they might need a visit from Chef Gordon Ramsay or it might be time to close up shop needless to say we will not be returning and I don't recommend wasting your money their read more

Just for the record, one of these two stars are based strictly on the friendly and helpful servers and host we encountered. They were very patient with my elderly grandmother who is full of concerns and requests, and is very soft spoken. They were of course friendly and helpful with the rest of us as well. Great service all around. That's really the extent of my praise. The food was downright terrible, and not inexpensive either. The seafood stuffing in the stuffed mushroom appetizer (and stuffed fish entrée) had no discernible seafood flavor. It was a bready and bland distraction. The flounder and the mussels both seemed to of been frozen products. Dry and bland was a theme. I grew up visiting Long Island, and eating here, it's not what it once was. The biggest disappointment came in a chowder cup. My wife who is from Utah and didn't grow up on chowder was excited to try "the real deal". Her first comment after trying the seafood chowder, "it tastes like cake batter". The famous flavor of Long Island roux. A pasty concoction of butter and flour, a bit of cream, and a few pieces of frozen seafood. A menu item that will help fix your peeling wallpaper in a jam. I will have to say I have nothing but excellence things to say about this establishment. Service and waiters we're so friendly and respectful. Greeted right when I walked in the door by the owner himself. As soon as I sat down drinks were served and the appetizers were on there way. And shortly after enjoyed some of the best seafood I ever had In my life. So fresh and with just the right touch of seasoning, and a very generous amount for a reasonable affordable price. This used to be the place I'd go for decent food at a reasonable price. But over the past couple of years the food has gone downhill and the price has gone up. We found this place after leaving the beach. Craving for some seafood we figured a place named fish & clam must have good seafood! NOT!! The prices weren't bad which is no excuse for the poor quality in the food. We started with the oysters which seemed to be the only thing that was actually fresh. My husband got the seafood bisque which was not a bisque at all! It had more corn starch than seafood in it. We decided to get a bunch of appetizers instead of entrees and each one was more disappointing than the next. The shrimp cocktail- should have been called defrosted shrimp. The Cajun popcorn shrimp- I've had better at Popeye's. The fried calamari which you can pretty much get at any pub these days- tasted like the clam strips at White Castle. And the mussels with white wine just smelled scary. We were all disappointed and after we got the bill felt ripped off. Waiter recommended "chopped" baked clams for an appetizer. What we got was some flavorful muck and an over cooked clam in a shell. Hubby's Manhattan clam chowder came out ice cold. I took this time to sneak out and smoke a cigarette, yeah I know. So I get back and the soup comes back, now it is luke warm. A tad salty. At least the packaged oyster crackers were fresh. We ordered the twin lobster tails with the "steak fries". Thirty minutes later two very over cooked and for me inedible lobster tails were served with some knock off Red Robin fries tossed on a bread plate. Please take note that due to the new chips in credit cards you have to inform the server prior to swiping your card how much you would like to tip. I threw my debit card at the hubby, told him to make a call and headed to the car. For a small place there were a bunch of servers not doing much. Went Sunday for dinner with five people. Had a couple of cocktails then came the appetizer's, baked clams, coconut shrimp, oysters Rockefeller and steamers. One was better than the next and everything was nice and hot. Next was the seafood bisque which was like a meal in itself and seasoned perfectly. My fried fisherman's platter was outstanding and my wife's twin lobsters were cooked to perfection. What made the night even better was the owner Franz. Came here from a bad experience. We were the only customers but it was quite early. The waitress was super sweet. The owner was there and he was really nice too. I had the seafood gumbo, my first time, and it was really good. Large bowl of mixed seafood and an awesome sauce with some finely diced sausage. My husband got the crab meat stuffed tilapia and that was good too. My daughter got a bowl of pasta with marinara sauce and I have never seen her eat so fast in my life. This is the third time visiting this restaurant, and I have grown more negative. They have a disappointingly minimalist attitude. While the food is good, the presentation is lacking. No bread is served, which seems very cheap. I ordered the fried clams, which while good-tasting were few in number, accompanied by a baked potato. I will never step foot back in this restaurant and I will make sure anyone I know doesn't have to experience the horrendous service my boyfriend and I did. Our server was an older women with dirty blonde hair. Did not even greet us, was very short and nasty to us and did not accommodate to us what so ever. Our food came out and she went on break without mentioning it to us and we were looking for her for about 10-15 minutes. No one even asked how our food was. I had to ask another server for another drink and my boyfriend had to go inside HIMSELF and grab more water from a water pitcher. She then acknowledged the fact that we were speaking to the "owner" after asking to speak to a manager, another older women with light blonde hair and asked "what did they need" instead of approaching us or wondering why we were upset. Worst experience of my entire life. I was told the place was understaffed but that doesn't justify the fact that we received horrible service. It was our day off and we wanted to enjoy a nice lunch on the water and instead we left very upset. I cant even believe there are waitresses in this location with that bad of service in such a nice area. We started off with the chopped bake clams which are my new found favorite and the crab meat stuffed mushrooms they were very fresh. Then we both had a cup of soup I had the seafood bisque which was hot and creamy and my boyfriend had the New England clam chowder it was very hardy with fresh clams and potatoes. i also had a salad ( it came with my meal) the lettuce was mixed greens it was a dinner size it was good as well.For our entrees he had snow crab legs were sweet and fresh and I had the stuffed shrimp with crab meat it was delicious . By the time we left we were both really stuffed and satisfied . Tonight I had the pleasure of eating dinner in this restaurant. We were three adults and a six-year-old. We had an appetizer of fried calamari. It was very good and the portion was enough for our party. Three of us had spicy shrimp and a large salads. The other person had salmon and his six-year-old daughter from the child's menu of fried shrimp and fries. We all thought our food was delicious. For dessert some of us had cheesecake and somebody had blueberry crumb tart. The waiter had a birthday candle put on the cheesecake which was a very nice touch. He also put on a happy birthday song throughout the restaurant. Even if the food wasn't delicious I would go back. The staff was great. They didn't know what to do for us first. They took very good care of the six-year-old and she was treated like a mini adult. I have been in five star restaurants where the service sucked. I would give the service five stars. read more
