I love Azizam! Took myself on a solo date here about two months ago when I moved into the area. When you first walk in you're welcomed with a cool retro vibe that feels pretty homey. Since it was my first time here I asked the person working at the front ( you have to order up front where they then give you a number) some questions regarding the menu. They were supper attentive and friendly. After I ordered I sat outside to people watch which was honestly really nice. Reminded me of Paris. My food came promptly thus after. The Tumeric braised chicken is amaaazzzinggg the chicken is so juicy and falls off the bone. The rice has some sort of crunchiness to it that compliments the entire flavor profile of the dish. The eggplant dip reminded me of the one my grandmother makes, dipped with the chicken made my meal feel really nostalgic. I've been back four times since and never regret it. One of those meals that just makes you feel really good after! read more

Solid 4 stars for Azizam! Order at the counter and someone brings your food all in a very casual ambiance with tons of outdoor seating. Service was helpful with picking out dishes for my first visit. Favorite dish was the Kofteh Tabrizi, a tasty little meat and rice dish served in the shape of a ball with a tasty broth. As a Persian, I love going to trendy Persian spots with a twist on the old school recipes I grew up on. Azizam has a cute cafe ambiance with some middle eastern touches. The mirza gasemi eggplant dip was one of the best I've had. You have to order bread separately, but at least they have tasty fresh made barbari bread. The tongue and kotlet sandwiches were a little hard to eat with the way the bread was cut, but they were both good in flavor and taste. Located in Silverlake, so parking is a nightmare as expected. But great place to try some dishes you may not find at your traditional Persian restaurant. read more

We felt that the amount of food did not match the cost. Honestly, we did not feel full at all. The photos don't clearly show how small the portions actually were. In person, it was very noticeable. For example, koofteh is a dish that is normally eaten with bread, but they charged us separately for the bread. They asked $3.50 for just two very small pieces. And for Iranian rice to be subpar in an Iranian restaurant is a cardinal sin, with all due respect - The plate of appetizers were perfect for complementing the meal and the Zeytoon was GAS. Wish the torshi had some garlic cloves and more cauliflower but it was a small gripe - Albaloo Spritz (Sour Cherry): For those not familiar with sweet drinks from Iran, they often have sour cherry syrup/flavoring. Kinda Shirley Temple-like you could say. Wish I could chug 3 of these. - Ash-e-jo: Herbaceous with tender barley. Reminded me of being a kid. Perfect on a cold night. Nice size for sharing. - Kotlet (Ground beef patty): Chunkier consistency than I'm used to but it complemented the crispyness so well. Going to try the sandwich next. Honestly kinda not wanna review this place and keep it my hidden gem lol everything was delicious and maybe a bit Asian fusiony/inspired. It's like a cafe where you place your order at the counter then go to the table with a number. They also serve wine, beer, and sake. Maybe my favorite Iranian restaurant in the whole city. If you look at my Persian food reviews you'll see I'm into the homey and fresh Persian food, which is pretty rare in LA. Azizam hits the spot. I had my doubts and wondered if it was going to be Persian food for non-Iranians but it's totally not. My Persian parents (who themselves are very good cooks of Persian food) also loved it. My absolute favorite is turmeric braised chicken. Tied for second are the kofteh tabrizi and eggplant gheymeh. The fresh herb plate is simple but so fresh and a great starter. Also love the mirza ghassemi. Gonna have to try the rest of the menu soon. But seriously, it sounds so simple but I actually regularly crave the turmeric chicken (and I never crave Persian food!). And they sometimes have tahchin which I'm super picky about but theirs is really good (no rose water!) The servers and owners are so helpful and nice (and always co-sign my desire to get an extra dish). It's also dog friendly outside which is great. read more

Hello, I recently came to Azizam with some friends for dinner and it was a lovely time! We heard they serve authentic Persian food here and is a fairly new restaurant owned by a young couple so we were very excited to experience it. The food was absolutely incredible! Each dish was filled with flavor and robust with heartiness. I ordered the turmeric chicken which was so delicious and satisfying. The chicken fell off the bone because it was cooked to perfection while still being juicy. I took my leftovers home and enjoyed it the next day as well. The best part was the outdoor seating ambiance that elevated the dining experience. The interior is also tastefully done and gives a warm, inviting feeling as soon as you walk in. You know when you've seen a restuarant pop on the Eater LA, you know it's going to be good! As you walk in, you order first and then take a seat. The water is self serve which is nice as I do drink a lot of water. lol. There an outside and inside seating. I love sitting outside and people watch as you eat. The vibes are amazing. I've been here two times now and I still wanna go back! The first time we got the mirza Ghanem which is an eggplant and tomato dip. It was well seasoned and had a nice crispy onions on top. Super cute spot. Parking can be hard since it's right on a busy area on Sunset but I was able to find a meter. I dined here on a Friday evening with a friend and although it was pretty busy and there are no reservations, we were still able to find a seat. You order at the counter and then take a number to a seat, and there is a little counter to help yourself to water and small plates/bowls for sharing. I tipped 20% at the counter but did a lot of other work myself grabbing water/plates, however the service was absolutely spectacular from the front of house workers! We got a mazeh plate with mirza ghasemi (eggplant dip), shirza (cucumber tomato salad), and fresh herbs. From the hot dishes we got the kofteh tabrizi (meatball) based off a worker recommendation. We usually don't order desserts but it looked so good and we ordered the ferni, a cardamom/rosewater custard with pistachio. Drinks also drew us in and I got the sour cherry limeade albaloo spritz and my friend got the Al's Palmer. Everything was soooo good!!! Our top fave must rec dishes: mirza ghasemi and the ferni. Ever since my first visit to Azizam, I have not had a disappointing meal! The service has been consistently friendly, and the employees are patient if you have questions about the menu. I also like that they offer an outdoor patio for seating, and while it can be busy, I've usually had good luck finding a table. The turmeric braised chicken comes with a very tender chicken leg and a substantial portion of a yellow fava bean rice with fried shallots. It's a filling and satisfying dish, and I often order it. The kotlet sandwich comes with flavorful beef and potato croquettes on their seeded house bread. Their desserts are also great; while I enjoy their rice pudding and their milk custard, I love that their Shirini Napoleoni comes with a seasonal jam that melds well with the pastry cream and flaky layers. A very rainy evening in Los Angeles forced a quick audible change to our dinner plans. Azizam was the spot we landed on since we knew it had covered seating. The restaurant is small but bright and cheerful and we were really lucky to get a table under the heat lamps, so we were cozy. The staff was really friendly and seemed genuinely happy to serve us. I didnt get pics of the food because we were so wrapped up in catching up with each other, but let me say this; it was all gorgeous. And, beyond tasty. We got a small platter of appetizers for the table that included smashed olives, cucumber salad, and pickled vegetables. Yum! A cup of lentil soup came out, plus two sandwiches on their amazing bread, plus fried potatoes and the rice special. Dessert was a cream bun and a pistachio cake. Both were stellar. Came here this past Monday night for dinner around 6:30pm for my first time. The line to order was ~10 minutes long, and we were seated about 5 minutes after ordering. To eat, the two of us split the turmeric braised chicken ($16), eggplant khoresht ($14.50), fresh herb plate ($7.50), a Shams pilsner beer ($6), and a shirini napoleoni dessert ($9). No kabobs, just home-style Persian dishes and sandwiches that you won't find in L.A. or OC. * kofteh Tabrizi - beef ball (similar in texture and flavor to the Shanghainese 'lions head' meatball) * turmeric jindori chicken - very good fall-off-the-bone chicken leg, only wish the rice wasn't so soft and mushy. * mirza ghasemi - cold eggplant dip, similar to baba ganoush, goes great with the warm house bread! * ferni - yogurt-like custard dessert that is an acquired taste for non-Persians but I liked it. First visit but won't be the last. Next time I want to try their beef tongue sandwich! PARKING caveat - Trying to find street parking in front can be near-impossible. Smashed green olives (6/5): incredible flavor, so addicting Mirza ghasemi (10/5): I love an eggplant dip to begin with. But this one with the tomato and all the flavor is so incredible. I can't even explain how good it is you just have to try for yourself. Wild shallot yogurt (10000/5): this is my #1 favorite dish I get it every time. The yogurt is so high quality - creamy with delicious flavor, and the shallots/mint/oil complement the freshness so well. Fried potatoes (100/5): SO crispy, PERFECT amount of spice and flavoring. Each piece is a different size so you get a varying amount of soft potato vs crispy edge each bite. Turmeric braised chicken (5/5): literally falls off the bone. Really good flavor, a solid dish. My friends and I planned on hitting up Azizam for a meet-up so arrived on a Saturday night to a tons of parked cars on the street and a pretty packed restaurant. As others have mentioned, parking is horrendous and it's pretty much luck of the draw with street parking (meted until 8pm). The place is very warm feeling with the insides painted a light orange/beige and just feels like a grandma's home. I really enjoyed the warmth as it set the mood for the meal. You order and then grab a seat but there are servers who are there to help coordinate seats among the small tables. We got an assortment of dishes to try family style: JIdori Chicken - My favorite of the night. Chicken was moist and tender, rice was full of flavor and soft but not mushy. The little bit of veges helped balance out the flavors and temperatures. Kofteh Tabrizi - Also pretty good. Not sure if I tasted much of the meat mixture as it felt more like grains and beans, like a vege patty. The flavors overall were a bit muted as well and decent and still worth ordering. Others that were fine were the fried potatoes, the wild shallot yogurt, and the shirmal. All find accompaniments but nothing to rave home about. Overall, the food was good and I'd rate it more of a 3, the service was helpful and they were attentive and accommodating so that's what boosted the rating. I'm a big fan of comfort food. And this place feels like it focuses more on the comfort food side of Persian cuisine - stews, dips, etc. The setting also has a more laid back cafe type feel to it as well. To me, this feels different than other popular Persian places that I've been to around the city - where the emphasis is usually on kabobs and the settings feel more opulent. Both are fine, but I tend to prefer these type of cafes in general. No reservations (as of 11/24) and there are some tables inside and outside. The people here are really friendly and helpful. The order / service style is kind of a hybrid - I believe you order at the counter first and there are servers that come around and check on you and you are able to order additional items from them. Came here recently with some old coworkers and they got here before me, so that's why I think they ordered at the counter first. With a small group, we were able to order quite a bit of the menu items. We ordered: - Kofteh tabrizi - with the risk of oversimplifying, this is basically a Persian meatball with lots of wonderful flavors working together in a delicious sauce. - Mazeh plate with mirza ghasemi and seasonal vegetable yogurt (beet) - really great item to order that you can tailor to your liking with different items to choose from. I love eggplant and tomatoes go the ghasemi was pretty perfect and so was the beet yogurt. Bonus points for such a vibrant looking dish! - Smashed green olives - Eggplant khoresht - great comforting stew especially for eggplant lovers. - Khoresht e beh (lamb neck) - I think this might have been a special that night or at least with limited quantities. I came back with my mom and grandma because I wanted to show them the restaurant. They were definitely skeptical at first given how different azizam is from the traditional kabobery persian restaurant. Once the food came out they did like the flavors, and I think the owner surprised us with some complimentary tea which really won them over. I'd describe this place as a high quality, casual restaurant that works well for any occasion and any group up to 5 people. Most importantly - the food. We ordered a Mazeh plate (and had to get extra barbari bread!) with the shallot yogurt, mirza ghasemi (roasted eggplant) and shirazi. Yogurt and eggplant were great, shirazi was average to subpar. For mains we got the braised chicken (super good) and the kofteh meatball (solid). The service is good. Friendly, attentive, are they staff are walking around making sure everyone is taken care of. Food comes out fast (we came at 7p on a Saturday and our meal was ready within 10 mins of ordering it). Informal tables inside and out. Fun to eat outside as the sun sets in LA. Beef Tongue Sandevich: The mound of beef tongue is thinly sliced, tender, and flavorful. The fresh mint and basil are so fragrant and aromatic. Soft on the inside, the barbari bread is crispy and covered in sesame seeds. There's a smooth green herby yogurt sauce slathered on the bread. The tomatoes and onions are sweet and juicy. Kuku Sandevich: This is a cool and refreshing sandwich for a warm day. It is like an herbal frittata of leeks, parsley, and a little bit of egg, but loosely held together. The texture of the chopped greens is very pleasant. The kuku is topped with a creamy garlic yogurt. The thick slice of yellow tomato and crunchy radish slices are really fresh.
