Coconut Milk Risotto With Baked Mahi-Mahi
Ben M.

Very good food - really loved the Koti rotu (with lamb) and coconut risotto with mahi-mahi. The two desserts we ordered - fried banana and a rice pudding - were divine. Service was very friendly, but dreadfully slow. It took over 2.5 hours for 4 appetizers and 4 entrees. Actually three entrees because they forgot an entire dish that we just told them to skip finally. Dirty plates and food piled up on our table as we watched other diners arrive, eat, and leave. Maybe an off night? Happy to revise my rating upwards in the future since the food was lovely and occasionally great. For now though, service was way too slow to give more than 3 stars :/

Came here on a Thursday night and it was not too busy. Street parking in the nearby neighborhood. Service was quick and friendly. I had the chicken Kotu Roti. I let the server know that I had a dairy allergy and they let me know that most plates are dairy-free by default. They also noted which plates contained dairy. They have a veggie option for most plates so I'd assume many plates are vegan friendly as well. The Kotu Roti was fun! I appreciated the blend of spices and the way the bread blends in with the food. It was lacking a bit of salt, but nothing too crazy. They have indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. Perfect for solo dinner, date nights, or small group nights. Looking forward to coming back and trying the rest of the menu! Dairy free desserts available too, although I didn't have any this time around.

Wonderful restaurant. I never had Sri Lanka food. I love it. Reminds me of a cross between Indian and Chinese food. Truly delicious. Owner Shaheen and his staff are so warm and welcoming. The logo and the decor of the restaurant are beautifully modern

My friends and I came to Kurrypinch a few months ago. I've tried them when they were a small shop in Van Nuys and glad I was able to try this new iteration in East Hollywood. Parking will be an issue because it's East Hollywood. The food was fantastic and creative. I thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. The ambiance is a very cozy vibe and the service is great- attentive and cordial staff. I plan to come back.

One of the best restaurants in LA serving authentic Sri Lankan food. Situated on the corner of Hollywood Blvd, the restaurant presents a nice curb appeal with an expansive open-concept patio. Seating is also available indoors. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with impeccable customer service. We did not have a reservation, but were anyways seated right away. Our waitress was super accommodating and checked in on us constantly. The food was brought out rather quick, and really resembled authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. I can highly recommend the: Shrimp Kurrypanadas (basically their twist of a an empanada with shrimp), Deviled Chicken, Kotu Roti with chicken, String Hopper Pilau, and the Beef Kurry Sandwich. Whether you've tried Sri Lankan food or not, this restaurant is definitely a must-try! I will certainly be back to try out some of their other seafood dishes.

* ** *** **** ***** What a delightful experience! We sat at the counter facing the kitchen... I think they suggested the location is called the "Chef's table" but it's really a counter facing the kitchen ;) area. I tried so hard not to distract the staff in the kitchen (I probably failed) and found all of them to be warm, kind, and passionate about their craft. Food was unique, portions were huge (from my perspective) were nicely balanced We are in town for 90 days while my wife completes a surgery rotation, and Kurrypinch is in our little neighborhood. What a treat for us to be able to walk to KP, a couple times per week for dinner. A really worthwhile and enjoyable spot. My photos do not do justice to the food... I'll try to do an update soon . Value is very high, a unique and pleasant dining experience.

My cousin picked this place to try. I was excited cause I never had Sri Lankan food. This place is located where parking was hard to find. We were able to park on the residential street about a block away. Please give some time to find parking. Walking into the restaurant gave a vibe of cozy and nice. We started the night off with the deviled chicken and badhuma. I'm usually a fan of potatoes but I thought the badhuma was okay. I did really like the taste of the deviled chicken. I love the dish that I picked. I ordered the Coconut milk risotto with baked Mahi Mahi. This dish was properly prepared and balance. The milk risotto together with the Mahi Mahi worked so well together. It was really good. It would a dish I would order again. We also ordered one coconut roti for each to try. The coconut roti is different in texture than I'm use to. I did like the flavor of it. It also tasted great the next day as breakfast with eggs. The service was great. Overall, if you're cravings or want to try Sri Lankan, this will be your place.

Made a reservation for Kurrypinch since they were too packed for a walk-in the first time we went. Parking was hit or miss but not terrible. After getting seated on their cozy patio, we got prompt and friendly service. The order (prioritized): - Coconut milk risotto with mahi mahi - Kottu roti - Lumprais Everything was well cooked and seasoned. Textures were balanced. Very filling combo of dishes. We also ordered the sundae for dessert but it wasn't as unique as we were expecting. Overall it was a positive dining experience and great change from our usual routine dinner.

String Hopper Pilau

I'm definitely no expert on Sri Lankan food but Kurrypinch was such a delicious meal. Both me and my friend wanted to try it and they were really nice about accommodating a big group of five of us despite other parties taking up the tables for bigger groups. I unfortunately can't remember everything we got but honestly it was all good - I loved the string hopper pilau, but we also tried the mackerel croquettes and empanadas. You'll just have to try it for yourself, they have a delicious sounding menu and I wish we could have tried even more of it.

I come here pretty often, but I finally tried the rice pudding yesterday and I'm still thinking about it. So good. You think rice pudding is just... rice pudding .. but this one is totally different. It has sweet rice, dates, cashews, fried onions topped with curry leaves (which sounds crazy for a dessert) But it actually works so well. Honestly one of the best I've had. Staff is as always welcoming and nice!

Surprised by the super high yelp rating. Maybe my expectations were too high going into it. The ambiance and service didn't really have much warmth. Most of the food was ok, but didn't really make up for the lackluster experience. Highlights were the string hopper and chickpeas. Glad I tried Sri Lankan food for the first time, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here and the parking situation here is very difficult!

The coconut risotto? Addictive. I'm glad it came as the base to the curry dish because I was this close to ordering rice on the side like a fool. That risotto held its own--creamy, fragrant, and soaked up the curry like it was born for it. Also had the roti pancakes with sides, which were fire. All three dips slapped in their own way. Would 100% come back just to eat the sides by themselves, no shame.

Deviled Chicken
Denny K.

What an absolute gem! We arrived an hour before they closed for lunch and got seated immediately. We ordered the deviled chicken, kottu roti, and the lumprais (only available on weekends)--and every dish was absolutely delicious bursting with authentic South Asian flavor. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy without being crowded. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. What a great culinary addition to the LA food scene - a welcome departure from the usual fare.

I love how big the naan is that they give you. They make it fresh too. Even though I've tried a bunch of their skewers, this time I tried the fish karahi, which came with my choice of naan or rice. I chose naan. It was really good but it was a little too spicy for me. The cashier told me they could add yogurt the next time around. However, what really stood out is how the fish was cooked. I feel in American restaurants, fish is just cooked in a way that makes it just taste ok. However, at like Chinese restaurants, they really know how to make the fish taste amazing and have it be so plump and juicy. They make their fish like that here! The juicy and plump way where you're just like, "Wow I just want to keep eating this!" I also got a chicken roll too which is fried and crispy. Good appetizer.
