    Beef Short Ribs

Padi has a cool concept. During the day, it's a cool cafe spot with Indonesian lunch options and coffee and matcha drinks. By night, the place shifts to a wine bar and dinner plates. The really nice staff took the time to explain the food and their favorite things to eat at home in Sumatra. Beef Short Ribs: A lot of places are hyped for short ribs and they're usually drier than I like, but not here. These are the best beef short ribs I've had in a long time. The beef is perfectly braised so they're really tender and succulent as well as juicy. They said it all starts with the prime beef. The meat is sort of crispy on the outside and is nicely marbled and flavorful. The beef is coated with a West Sumatran green chili sambal that provides just the right amount of heat. It's sweet first then savory, almost like a green chili jam. With some light fidgeting with a spoon and fork, the meat pops right off the bones. I definitely ate the ribs clean, even all the connective tissue. Remember to order a side of rice to absorb all the flavors. Parking: There's some free street parking a couple blocks down. Just watch out for the signs that prohibit parking from 6 to 8. They also validate for the first hour in the garage at the back, then it's $5 for each additional hour.

Delicious! Very happy to see an Indonesian restraunt open in the Hollywood area. Padi is a sit down restaurant thats on the nicer/pricier side but still casual. Service was great, our server was friendly and made us feel welcome. (bonus points cause they were playing music I liked!!!) The store itself is on the smaller size but they can accommodate medium size groups and solo diners. Wishing this establishment a huge success! BEEF SHORT RIBS $32 - ( 8 / 10 ) super super soft and fell right off the bone. The texture was on the spot! The green chili sambar was a bit spicy but still good! Might be preference but I felt it could use a bit more salt GRILLED YELLOW COLLAR $28 - ( 8 / 10 ) also cooked to perfection! The skin was crisp, the fish meat was soft and the lemon added on gave this fish a delicious sweet citrusy and savory experience in one that worked super well together. Also loved the sour cucumber palette cleanser it came with!BAKMI AYAM LUNCH SPECIAL $18 - ( 7.5 / 8 ) A good pick for those who want a classic Indonesian dish! The noodles were cooked perfectly and comes with a tasty savory flavor and is the most authentic tasting in the Hollywood area. The broth has a white peppery taste to it that soothes the stomach. SATE AYAM $8 - ( 10 / 10 ) WOW!!! The chicken is super soft, tender and juicy with a roasted taste. The sate sauce and taste was so delicious and addicting I wanted more. I recommend this if as a small bite! It comes with two skewers. FRIED BRUSSEL SPROUTS $6 - ( 7 / 10 ) A good side to get if you are getting alot of meat dishes! It's sweet and has a smokey taste.- Paid parking lots or free street parking - Bathrooms available - Small and medium group seating

Padi has been on my radar for a while, as Indonesian food in LA proper has become exceptionally rare--so when it opened, it got my attention. DineLA seemed like a good time to go, since the menu looked good and it would be a good opportunity to sample a lot of different items (especially going with a friend). It's a small but comfortable restaurant on the ground level of an office building, not far from Iki Ramen and Iki Nori, Padi's sister restaurants. Service is exceptionally friendly (and exceptional). We began our DineLA saga with yellowtail sashimi, similar perhaps to what one might find at their Japanese restaurants, but with chilies and a slightly more Indonesian spin. Tasty, but perhaps the least impressive item of the night. Then came a trio of Indonesian appetizers: their take on gado gado salad, a salad of pickled cucumber and charred eggplant. All were very good, but the eggplant was sensational. Next came the skewers: sate tempeh and sate ayam (chicken), both delicious. Finally came the mains (we were sharing everything): grilled blue prawns (with edible heads) and braised short ribs, each served with rice. Flavors felt balanced--not overly spicy but with sufficient "punch" for me. We also had lovely housemade mocktails with lychee and pandan--so refreshing. My one note would be that portions aren't huge, so if you have a hearty appetite, you might need one more item. But all in all, this is an excellent addition to the Hollywood dining scene. It's not necessarily a cheap addition (lunch definitely looks cheaper), but given that it's closer to fine dining--with corresponding ingredients and labor--it's fair.

I'm really happy I got to try this place before my bf and I went to the chinese theater. I'm Indonesian myself so I'm definitely picky about my food! Was going to try their dineLA menu but unfortunately we couldn't make it, so we went the day right after the last day of dineLA. There were plenty of metered parking around the restaurant but supposedly there's a parking garage with a validation nearby. We didn't park there though. The restaurant was surprisingly smaller than I imagined, so I was worried that we'd have to wait (since it seemed pretty packed) but luckily they have a communal table that we can join and that was totally ok for us. Of course I already studied the menu even before I went, and given that it's only my bf and me, I only ordered my priorities first (if turned out we loved it, we'd go back and try other stuff). So I ordered the bakmi ayam (can't say no to an Indonesian bakmi), gado-gado (I learned that I need to order a veggie dish each time, cos, balanced meal! Haha), and short ribs (their most recommended item). Well, I can happily report that I loved everything! The gado-gado was very refreshing and just enough. Not too much of anything, which is good, because it's an appetizer. Yes the most authentic one is usually drenched in peanut sauce and look more "street style", but I was really happy with their approach of a gado-gado. I mean, afterall, seems like this restaurant is more like a proper, almost fancy, Indo restaurant. Second item is the bakmi ayam. Now I'm picky with bakmi dish. And it's so sad cos it's so hard to find a good bakmi in the greater LA. This one really hit the spot! Love the noodle texture, flavor, and everything. I wish I could finish the entire bowl myself but I gotta save some space for the other dishes. The third item is the beef short ribs with a side of rice. It's really good, flavorful and spicy. Definitely order the side of kerupuk to complement it. I wish the dish came with a small soup but I kinda used the broth from the bakmi to complement it. We still had some space for a dessert so we got the pandan tiramisu. It's very light and airy, not heavy at all. It's good in a way, but I might have preferred it to be a little more bold. Overall I'm really happy with my visit and will definitely come back to try some more.

Padi is phenomenal and a fantastic first impression of Indonesian food. My favorite item was Octopus Sambal Matah - incredibly cooked octopus with tangy and spicy sambal and a hint of Hawaiian black salt. Please have pandan tiramisu though! I was so sad it ran out and I couldn't try it. Parking *can* be tricky. There's spots on either side of where the building is with 2hour parking spots; some are free and some you need to pay for. However, if you see the giant orange parking sign that's parking-structure-like, you can park there. You park in whichever number you want, go inside and let the parking guard know and you'll pay before you leave. Free parking within the first hour, $5 the second, and $10 the third. The restaurant is small but lovely and calm. It seats about 30-40 people. There is only 1 restroom available FYI. Glad I got to try them out for DineLA. Staff was very kind, welcoming, and patient. I definitely plan to come back and/or visit their other restaurants (Iki Ramen and another that starts with H... Japanese food!).

Indonesian food's finally making its way to Hollywood and being an Indonesian just meant I gotta try it. The vibes were more like contemporary Indo resto than anything traditional. Visiting with my Indo friends and coming early noon, right before the venue got busy. They seemed to have limited people serving, but pretty quick serving time. As recommended, we went family style and shared plenty of stuffs from the menu. Gado gado 7/10 Sate Tempeh 7/10 Charred Eggplant 8.5/10 Oxtail soup 6.5/10 Pork Jowl 6/10 Beef Shortribs 7.5/10 Grilled yellowtail collar 7.5/10 Bubur Ayam 6.5/10 Bakmi Ayam 6.5/10 Kopi Gula Aren 5.5/10 The Pandan 7/10 From the foods, I felt like must-try appetizer would be their Charred Eggplant, which did surprise me by how tasty it was. Perfect texture for the eggplant and the seasoning was just so rich, literally felt like melt in your mouth. As for the main dish, the shortribs were pretty good, with very tender beef and good balance better lean meat and fats. Would prefer the chili sauce to go spicier though. The Yellowtail Collar was another flavorful one and certainly made me miss having grilled fish back at home with that unique sweet savory sauce. More iconic Indonesian brunch dishes would actually be the Bubur Ayam (chicken porridge) and Bakmi Ayam (chicken noodles). They were both decent, but the seasoning and flavor probably weren't as bold as those back home. For drinks, would recommend The Pandan, if you're down to try signature Indo flavor as they used Pandan milk. The coffee indeed wasn't that strong, but the pandan's more of the highlight. That's also the reason I was just okay with the Kopi Gula Aren as it's bit milky for my preference.

One of my favorite meals I've had in awhile. Really cute atmosphere and they're also a coffee shop. The server was so nice and very attentive. *Hamachi/Yellowtail collar - this was cooked to absolute perfection. The skin was so crispy and the fish was so tender and moist. The sweet garlicky soy glaze was addicting and paired perfectly with the sambal that it came with. *Sate Ayam - the chicken is dipped in a delicious marinade, grilled so there were some crispy edges and topped with this incredible peanut sauce. My picky 2.5 year old gobbled this down - we had to order 2. *Gado gado - such a refreshing salad with a variety of textures and an incredible peanuty flavors from the dressing - love the crispy shallots on top *Octopus - tender/soft, just the way it should be cooked, dipped in black salt and it came with our favorite sambal of the night. Our toddler was a bit of a monster, but they were so kind to him. At the end the owner (I think) brought out some cookies for him that he wouldn't share and inhaled. We would love to come back and try their breakfast/lunch menu!

"God bless Indonesia!"- Brilliant Indonesian tapas style eatery, clean cozy and laidback ambience. FOOD Octopus Sambal Matah Dinner (4/5): Starting off with grilled octopus as starter, this is part of their dinner small plates menu so portion is on the smaller side. Love the Balinese sambal, it also comes with lemon and salt pepper to pair with as needed. Love the citrus touch on it, delicious, pretty standard octopus starter. Beef Short Ribs Dinner (4.7/5): Pretty delicious! Wish there are more cucumber or greens on the side to pair with. The beef is very tender and flavourful, love the west sumatran green chili sambal with it. It's cooked very tender and soft, nothing struggle to eat, meats come off easily. Nice. Oxtail Soup Dinner (4.5/5): Jakarta-style slow braised wagyu oxtail broth with warm spices and herbs. It's my 1st time trying Indonesian style oxtail soup, it's very rich and aromatic. The beef is very tender, it comes with big chunks of bone. I'd say it's slightly harder to eat, comparing to the beef short ribs dish. The taste is like if Korean Galbi Tang, Viet Pho, and Taiwanese beef noodle soup had a baby- this is it. A heartwarming soup to have for dinner. Grilled Yellowtail Collar Dinner (4.8): Nicely grilled fish! I love the sweet soy glaze on top of it, it elevated everything. I only had Cantonese sweet soy before, the soy in here is thicker- more of a caramel sauce texture. Delicious. One of my fav dish here for sure. We also got jasmine rice with the food, it makes everything better. Keep in mind rice here is separate order, it doesn't come with the dishes. AMBIENCE & SERVICE Cozy, warm wood eatery. Our server is very friendly and gives the right recommendation. He's attentive when we needed takeout boxes and water. It's a laidback spot for a casual weekday dinner or chill date night. Nothing fancy or too serious. There's no loud music, so you can hold conversations for a group dinner or with a date. OVERALL Everything we had is delicious and comforting. The dishes in here are on the smaller side, so it's kinda like a tapas style setting. Which is good if you're new to the cuisine, you can order a bunch of different things to try out in a group dinner. In terms of the portion: what we ordered is dinner for 2, and we had some leftovers. I'm looking forward to try the hamachi and their pandan desserts/ crafted drinks!

We've been meaning to try Padi for a while, so Dine LA finally gave us the excuse. Our only real reference for Indonesian food is a short trip to Bali (so not exactly experts), but we left already planning a return. Right on Sunset with easy validated parking (first hour free, $5 after), which in LA is always a plus. We did the Dine LA menu and, of course, ended up ordering both options whenever we could... then added the grilled corn and octopus. Service was amazing. I actually called earlier that day to modify our reservation and it was super easy. Our server was so welcoming and genuinely excited to walk us through both the Dine LA and à la carte menus. Every time he dropped a dish, he explained what it was and how everything came together. The whole team was very humble and warm. Nothing felt overly rehearsed or stuffy. Just really good hospitality. Ambiance: 5/5 -- warm, intimate, relaxed Service: 5/5 -- attentive, knowledgeable, smooth Food highlights (aka basically everything): Grilled corn -- don't skip this 5/5 Octopus sambal matah -- tender, addictive 5/5 Yellowtail sashimi -- super fresh, clean 5/5 Gado-gado -- great mix of textures 4/5 Charred eggplant -- smoky, soft, standout 5/5 Sate ayam -- tender, rich peanut sauce 5/5 Grilled blue prawns -- juicy, nicely charred 5/5 Beef ribs -- super tender, great sambal 5/5 Dessert was supposed to be pandan cheesecake, but they were out, so we had the pandan ice cream instead. Light, fragrant, not too sweet; honestly a great end to the meal. 5/5 The house-made sambals especially tied everything together. By the end, we were already talking about round two. Yellowtail collar is next.

Worth the visit. Very aesthetic place and the food matches the aesthetic. Limited hours so plan accordingly. Service was very friendly. The tempeh was my favorite. Wish it came w/ 20 pieces! We had the whole place to ourselves around 11:45am on a Monday. Sate Tempeh: 4.5/5 (my favorite, best flavor) Sate Tofu: 4/5 (tempeh had more flavor) Jasmine Rice: 5/5 (can't mess up rice haha) The Pandan Iced: 4.5/5 (smooth)

Found this spot since it was close to a theater I went to with my husband for a show. Everything was excellent - nice ambiance, attentive service, and incredible food. Chicken skewers were delectable, and we devoured them before I could get a picture. I also appreciated the wine options and a complementary orange wine tasting. The fish collar dish is outstandingly tasty (as was everything) and quite a lot of food - more than I thought. I want to go back and try everything else on the menu!

The Indonesian food here was pretty mid (okay). It wasn't terrible, but it was giving gentrified Indonesian food. My friend from Indonesia I came with also agreed as well. We both shared the following dishes: - Hamachi Dabu-Dabu: The best of the dishes we had. I liked the tangy and spicy flavor of the fresh fish. The fish was pretty stringy though. - Sate Tempeh: Th texture was good, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the flavor. - Beef Ribs: I liked how the meat was tender, but wasn't the biggest fan of all the fat. The flavor also could've been better. The dinner was tapas style so the portions were on the smaller side. However, the price paid for them was not worth it in my opinion besides the hamachi. The interior was nice with the mood lighting. There was a decent amount of tables and chairs, but I would recommend making a reservation in advance. The server we had was super kind, attentive, and explained the menu items to us well. Overall, I'm not sure if I would come back here for dinner but would be interested to try the cafe and day menu items.

padi was a finely executed restaurant of Indonesian flavors for an American palate, being that it isn't as spicy as many other traditional Indonesian restaurants. overall it was amazing tasting food. the mocktail was unique and the eggplant was a must try. It was on the pricey side but about what I expected for a dining experience in Hollywood. between 6 people we paid $250 and their dishes are meant to share as indicated on the menu! the staff were friendly and efficient and were able to answer all of our questions. the restaurant itself can seat about 20 people comfortably and there's is a restroom available. As far as parking it is mostly surrounded by metered street parking (we paid $1/hour on a weekend).

STEAMED RICE Fragrant lemongrass rice made with coconut milk, pandan leaves, and galangal SAYUR URAB Long bean and bean sprout dish with toasted coconut and kencur COCONUT CHICKEN CURRY Pasture-raised chicken, slow-cooked for six hours MOTHER-IN-LAW EGG Hard-boiled egg marinated in tamari and topped with chili paste TEMPE OREK Fried soy bean cake in a sweet and spicy glaze SAMBAL GORENG Spicy Thai chilies, shallots, and garlic, fried and finished with coarse salt KACANG BALI Bali-style salted peanuts ABON BABI Traditional dried pork garnish The kueh lapis is a fun colorful, coconutty dessert that is nice, thick and chewy. The cendol is a nice desserty drink made of coconut milk, pandan jelly, red bean, and diced jackfruit. The drink reminds me of something similar in the Vietnamese culture. I was a fan. The desert was beautiful as well, and had such a fun look to it. I like the chewiness, and it was fun the peel the layers. The nasi bungkus itself was a nice combination of flavors and textures. I bought some of that chili stuff in a jar and added some extra on top. I liked that there was a kick, but not so much where I started sweating. The spice was a nice level. I got a little excited and ordered a lot of food and was totally full by the time I finished my items. Pick up itself was really easy. After you pre-order early in the week when they do a pop-up, there's a time window where you pick up - and in this case it was Friday afternoon - night. When I got there, they were friendly, and just directed me towards the counter, where they did final prep to give me my food. They even gave me some reheating instructions just in case. Super friendly and you can tell they put a lot of care into their product. I hope they have all the success in the world and would like to order from them again.

The curry broth was creamy, spicy, and packed with flavor. It came with shrimp, fish cake, tofu, egg, corn, bean sprouts, and noodles, so there was a lot in that bowl. There was actually an error with our order, but our server was so apologetic and immediately had the kitchen remake it. We didn't ask or complain, she just wanted to make it right. Really appreciated that. The Nasi Campur was great too. Rice with BBQ pork, Chinese sausage, fried chicken, and egg. Lots of different flavors on one plate and good if you want to try a little bit of everything. Roti Prata is always hard for me to pass up. Crispy and flaky on the outside, chewy inside, and that curry sauce they give you for dipping is so good. We finished that pretty quickly. Good food and even better service. Mistakes happen, especially at restaurants. How they handle them matters more to me, and our server handled ours perfectly. Would definitely come back.

Food came out quickly and was quite good. Singapore Laksa (6/10) - the curry was rather thin and lacking in flavor but maybe that's because it's intended to be more of a soup. I would've preferred rice on the side instead of rice noodles. Next time I would get the actual curry instead of this, but that is just personal preference Roti (8/10) - probably the best thing we had. It was simple but very delicious, flakey and decadent. The curry sauce was much thicker and paired along well, giving a sweet and mildly spicy flavor Nasi Campur (7/10) - the first bite was delicious, but gradually became more monotonous after each bite. I think the ratio of fried chicken thigh to the sausage and cha siu was slightly off, adding to the repetitive nature of the dish. Overall, it was still quite good

My first time trying Indonesian food, and LaaLaaPan made it such a memorable experience. We ordered…read morethe Nasi Tumpeng Mini (18), grilled fish, and Martabak Manis for dessert, and everything tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful. The people who I assume own the restaurant, working as both the waiters and chefs, were incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about what they serve. Since we were completely new to Indonesian cuisine, they patiently answered our questions and gave us great recommendations, which made the experience even better. This is exactly the kind of small business you want to support. The flavors were unlike anything I've had before, and I loved getting to try something so different. My favorite dish was easily the grilled fish. It reminded me of the Filipino grilled fish I grew up eating, so it had a comforting familiarity while still showcasing its own distinct Indonesian flavors. If you're looking for authentic Indonesian food or simply want to try something new, I highly recommend LaaLaaPan. I'll definitely be coming back to explore more of the menu.

The balado wasn't spicy, but the sambal definitely was. I also missed having sambal ijo and some gulai gravy, both of which would have made the plate feel more complete. The bakwan jagung had a similarly homemade style. Depending on your preferences, it will either make you miss your mom's cooking or leave you craving a crispier, restaurant-style bakwan jagung packed with corn kernels. The soda gembira, like many Indonesian places here, use Sprite instead of club soda or plain soda water, which makes it far too sweet. The syrup they used tasted authentic, though. Overall, you may love this place specifically because the food tastes like something you grew up eating. However, if your preference leans more toward polished, restaurant-style Indonesian food, it may feel a little underwhelming.

Overall, there were some highlights, but the dishes that were a miss were pretty unenjoyable. My friend was super excited to see char siu on the menu since we had passed on Cantonese char siu the day before, but the char siu bowl that they had here was closer to Taiwanese braised pork belly rice. There were some pieces of meat that were tender and seasoned well, but the majority of pieces were too dry, and the rice to meat ratio was pretty bad; you're definitely not getting your money's worth with this dish. The other dish that was pretty bad was the rendang bowl. Rendang is one of my favorites dishes because of how tender the meat can be and how many different types of spices are used, but the one here misses the mark in every way: the pork was dreadfully dry, the pork wasn't seasoned well, and honestly, it was hard for us to finish the bowl. A complete waste of $16. The dishes that were enjoyed by our part included the fried fish cakes, the fried corn fritters and the skewers. These I would get again if I stopped by again. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by our meal. Everything on the menu sounded appetizing, but the execution was not there.

They have so many different options, including rice dishes, sauces, fried chips, snacks, and Indonesian drinks. I actually think some of their dishes taste a lot better than some of the Indonesian restaurants we've tried in SoCal. Everything is always freshly made, and the flavors really remind me of home. My friends and I usually get the banana-wrapped rice with beef rendang or the chicken version. We also tried the nasi kucing with octopus, and it was really good! The only downside I'd say about the rice plates is that I wish they gave more meat and less rice, especially with the larger wrapped ones. The prices definitely aren't cheap for these meals, but the food does taste good. We also tried their fried banana topped with cheese and Ceres, and it was chef's kiss. It was so good that I regret not getting more! This is a place we always used to visit when we lived in SoCal, and we still make a point to stop by whenever we're visiting down there now that we've moved to the Bay Area. There are still so many other dishes from this place that I haven't tried yet, but I definitely will the next time I visit! Parking is first come first serve and it's free. Sometimes during the weekend, it gets packed. There are limited outdoor seatings in front of the shop and no indoor seatings. They have microwave inside for you to heat the food and water as well. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're ever in the area. If you're craving authentic Indonesian flavors that remind you of home, this is definitely worth a visit.

This is more of a market where food is cooked fresh but pre-packaged for purchase, and they have other grocery items to shop on the other side. I didn't take much of a look but I believe it's Indonesian snacks and grocery items. At my coworker's recommendation, I got the Tumeric Rice Set. They have microwaves inside to heat up the food a bit and some outdoor seating. They have free water which is very nice. The setup is very homey and mom and pop vibes. The rice set was pretty good although some of the side dishes are a bit spicy. The chicken was flavorful but on the sweet side. The crispy potatos were also good with the tumeric rice. This is a good grab-and-spot for some good Indonesian food and groceries. I would come back to try something else.
