Chicken Kottu- such a generous portion! And delicious- I highly recommend!

OMG, this restaurant has the best Sri Lankan food- Kottu Roti is a national dish. They make it here with chicken, beef or shrimp. I am halfway through the most delicious chicken kottu I have had outside of Sri Lanka! Because I am an American and said easy on the spicy stuff, the lovely proprietor put a lot of the hot stuff on the side- so sweet of her! It is difficult to find Sri Lankan food here and I am so happy! I work nearby so can come all the time! They also serve Italian food, including pizzas.

The food was amazing. Food was excellent. Service was stellar! I would go back! The waiter was so helpful and recommended the kottu roti which I absolutely adored. It was my first time having that.

I came here for lunch, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the place looks clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and they have pizza, burgers and other American food but they also have other Sri Lancan dishes. I order the Beef kottu roti and falooda. The service was great and very nice service. They have small plate/snacks like empanadas but they are Sri Lancan snacks/small plates. They also sale Watalappam, it's like a dessert it's sooo good. Kind of like flan taste but different texture.

Was recommended by my daughter so myself and wife decided to go for some lunch today. Found out that every Saturday it has a buffet that starts at 12:30 pm till dinner time. Great Sri Lankan food for a very reasonable price. Spoke with the owner and wife and they are very friendly with a great smile as well. We are recommending this place if you love eating Sri Lankan food.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A cute new restaurant to try Sri Lanka meals.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I recommend the Falooda , it's so good . The people there are so nice so even if you don't know what the food is they are happy to explain it to you.

Great hospitality, so kind and patient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very clean space, you can tell they care about this place[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had tea, egg kottu, watalappan, vege roti and tea buns. All were great! The egg kottu was one of the best we had for a long time. Watalapan had authentic Sri Lankan taste and we loved it! We'll visit this place every time we come to LA.

    Kottu rotti. It was delicious!!

I went to this small restaurant and it was delicious. The owner was helpful in explaining the menu and ensuring I chose something that i would enjoy. He was also mindful of accommodating the spicy level. Overall I recommend it and will be returning!

The chicken kottu was definitely two meals. They've got a lot of food options, but the Sri Lankan is worth a try if you're a foodie.

What are the hoppers made out of ? Are they gluten free? I'd love to try all the dishes but need gluten free options. :)

This eatery has been around for a while, been always consistent in its high quality and therefore become a magnet for that hungry craving and adventurous foodie. Of the handful of Sri Lankan establishments in the SFV and its vicinities, Apey Kade provides the largest selection of staples, main dishes and those addicting appetizers called "short eats". Be it the fish roll (also called a Chinese roll), the cutlet, the patties, masala vadai, the scotch egg or the bacon & egg pastry, to name a few, everything is good here. For the mains, they have meals for string hoppers, hoppers, godamba rotis, pol roti and more. Let us not forget the ubiquitous rice and curry, the banana leaf rice packets and the lumprais. Important to note, for those that question it, Sri Lankan curries have a very different aroma, flavor and taste profile than food from any other country. The offerings here, are fresh and cooked with high quality Sri Lankan spices and ingredients. The pol (coconut) sambol is a must, it is intoxicating. Apey Kade is helmed by a delightful husband (Lalith) and wife (Niza) team, who are the culinary trifecta - owners, chefs and servers, at this small and cozy restaurant. Their humor, warmth and Sri Lankan hospitality, enhances the culinary dining (or to go) experience, that makes you desire to come back here, again and again.

I was comfortably surrounded by locals, which always makes me feel like I've found something special. I sat at a small table for two by the window. The lighting was warm and sunset-like--bright enough to read the menu and feel alive, yet ambient, like the height of golden hour. The space felt sophisticated but still chill and low-key. It was airy, almost like dining inside a series of curtained cabanas. The service was excellent: attentive without being stuffy or haughty. When I asked for recommendations, I received confident and specific answers. The food arrived fairly quickly, and my appetizers came out with perfect timing, giving me plenty of time to enjoy them before my entrée arrived. I ordered the Mackerel Croquette and the Shrimp Kurrypanada. I enjoyed both. The croquette was mild and flavorful without tasting fishy. The shrimp kurrypanada had deep flavor, and there was shrimp in every single bite. I give both a 7.8/10. Next came the Mango Pineapple Lassee. Perfection. Not too sweet and not too thick. I almost drank the entire thing before my dinner arrived, but somehow managed to hold back. By the end of the meal, though, every last drop was gone. 10/10. For my main course, I ordered the Deviled Chicken. It tasted like Sri Lankan soul food--deeply spiced and tossed with fresh tomato, onion, and bell pepper. Smoky, spicy, and absolutely phenomenal paired with the fried rice, which was lighter and airier than Chinese fried rice while still holding its own flavor-wise. I give it an 8/10. Overall, this was a wonderful dining experience. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and flavorful food. So yeah... I left here feeling like I had just returned from a solo trip to Sri Lanka.

There are well known Sri Lankan musical hits, playing in the background. Menu consists of both plain and egg hoppers (cooked perfectly, with an over easy to medium liquid yolk, just the way I like it). Other dishes are chicken curry, lentil curry, pol (coconut) sambol, seeni (onions and chillies) sambol, white rice and pol (coconut) roti. What clearly stands out at this restaurant is the culinary prowess of the Chefs (headed by the Matriarch) and the freshness of all the offered dishes. They came out one at a time, just after they were prepared in the kitchen, accompanied by intoxicating aromas. The sambols were addictive. All the food was distinct and tasty, bursting with complex flavors and a harmonious blend of chili heat and several authentic Sri Lankan spices. If you get the chance to separately get their chocolate roll cake, it is amazing. This is a family operation, with the mother and daughters cooking and also affectionately serving their customers. There are numerous chains of South Asian grocery stores (that carry food from many countries in…read morethat area of the globe). Some of them have hot cases, with fresh vegetarian food to go, or with a few tables, to dine in. Other stores are only for groceries. If you look around at numbers, this ethnic cohort, has the most locations in the SFV, Los Angeles, Simi and Thousand Oaks vicinities. Because of this, India Sweets and Spices, on Sherman Way and Topanga, is worth a trip.....to pick up ingredients, if and when I am in the mood to do some in house cooking :) This location also has a fresh vegetarian hot case every day, with several enticing, nutritious and tasty vegetarian selections of North Indian and South Indian food. There are also tables to dine in. On the grocery side, you can get some of these spices at supermarket chains like Ralph's, Vons, Whole Foods and the like. But none of these statewide chains will be able to come close or compete with these South Indian grocery establishments that are often, mom and pop joints. Supermarkets give you small quantities of spices for exorbitant prices. On the other hand, these smaller grocery stores have a very high degree of freshness, intoxicating fragrance, at a comparatively steal of a price in their products. And the smallest bag bought here, can last you for a long time. These are the places to go for superb intoxicating selections of turmeric, dried red chilies, fenugreek, fresh curry leaves, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, coriander powder, paprika, cardamom, fennel, and the like. If you are fond of okra, the best quality and freshness is in these stores. They also have the smaller red onions. And try some of the vast array of packaged and unique snacks (one of my favorites is the salted fried green peas), when you're tired of eating all the brands of potato chips :)
