The restaurant was have dine LA $65 per person. The food came out super slow, and the flavors just didn't suit my taste. We tried the salmon, squash, Mary's chicken, curried puff, peach pavlova, and passion fruit dessert, but nothing really stood out to me. Nice atmosphere, but based on the food and service speed, I personally wouldn't recommend it.

Chris and staff were awesome. Very attentive. Appetizers were perfect! Main courses had a little too much spice

Absolutely fabulous experience! From the moment you walk in, the food, the service, the ambiance. Everything we ate was delicious with good portion sizes! You can tell they care deeply about quality food and the making the guests who dine at Brick Lane feel well taken care of. We will be back!

We recently visited Brick Lane with our family of six and had a decent experience, but there were a few things that left us disappointed. I'll start with the positives. The restaurant is good looking and large, and the service throughout the meal was good. Our servers were attentive and friendly. The only hiccup was that it took a while to get our check at the end. First, we were automatically charged a 20% large party gratuity for our normal family of 6. While I understand that many restaurants do this, it's something guests should be aware of before dining. I also think this probably needs to start around 8 people. There's a huge parking lot right outside, yet you're still required to use paid valet instead of being able to self park and it's $14. I parked my own car but still paid the $14. Also the area is kind of weird I understand they practically got a built out restaurant as this used to be brera as the interior is pretty much the same but something like this would probably do better on the west side. Downtown LA is just a little odd when it comes to high end restaurants and specifically Indian restaurants. As for the food, it was good but not great. There were definitely a couple of standout dishes that we really enjoyed, but overall the food didn't justify the premium prices. Our bill came to about $550 for six people, which was surprising considering we were just a normal family dinner and some things were good and some were mediocre. We weren't ordering the most expensive items on the menu or anything extravagant just a variety of dishes to share. I usually don't mention cost in my reviews but this seemed liked a lot for this meal. I rarely comment on price because I'm happy to pay for a great meal. But if you're going to charge premium prices for Indian food the food needs to better across the board. That just wasn't the case here. What we ordered: * Chili Cheese Kulcha - 4.5/5 * Banarasi Aloo Kachori - 2/5 (beautiful presentation but lacked flavor) * Hara Lasooni Paneer - 4/5 (very good, but $28 for paneer felt overpriced) * Smoked Kashmiri Chicken Tikka - 3.5/5 (would have preferred chicken breast instead of dark meat) * Lucknowi Lamb Galouti - 4.5/5 * Boti Kabab - 3/5 * Paneer Saag - 1/5 (looked great but had very little flavor) * SoCal Karahi - 3.5/5 * Applewood Smoked Butter Chicken - 3/5 * Sourdough Naan - 4/5 * Garlic Naan - 4/5 * Missi Roti - 4/5 Another surprise was that they had run out of bottled water, which I didn't expect from a restaurant at this price point. They also don't accept cash, which wasn't an issue for us, but it's something diners should know before visiting. Overall, Brick Lane has a good atmosphere and some genuinely good dishes, and the service was solid. However, between the mandatory 20% gratuity, paid valet despite the large parking lot, running out of bottled water, the cashless policy, and the premium pricing, I just didn't feel the value was there. For nearly $550, I expected more dishes to impress not just a few. Unfortunately, I don't see myself returning. Our search for great Indian food in Los Angeles continues.

Parking was super convenient and felt safe, with valet parking right next to the restaurant and easy access in and out. The drink menu was delicious--honestly, even better than Baar Baar! I loved the spices and flavors in the dishes. They do such a great job of putting a modern twist on Indian food while still keeping those bold, flavorful spices. The presentation was beautiful, too. The Tandoori Prawns and the Lamb dishes were definitely one of my favorites! The ambiance was another highlight. They have a beautiful, open dining area, along with outdoor seating around a fire pit. It's such a great atmosphere, especially for a night out with friends. Having a space like this in Downtown is definitely a rarity. What made the experience even more special was meeting the owners. They were so kind and genuinely sweet, and you could really feel how passionate they are about Brick Lane and the food they've created. It was really nice hearing them share the story and passion behind the restaurant. Overall, such a fun spot for a girls' night, date night, or just a night out enjoying great food and drinks. We'll definitely be back!

First of all, incredible service. Super kind staff and the drinks impeccable, the food amazing. It's an upscale and classy place to enjoy a great dinner Will be back. Literally the staff were so friendly and attentive, haven't been to a place that great in a while

A great addition to LA's Indian dining scene. Brick Lane brings London style Indian food to LA. While it is on the pricier side, the quality of the food and attentive service make it worth considering for a special meal. We were warmly welcomed with complimentary mango mousse tart and raspberry tart, which was a thoughtful touch. We ordered a variety of dishes, and the standout appetizers were the Chicken Tikka and the Shakarkand Chaat, featuring sweet potato and yogurt. Both were flavorful and well-balanced. The ambiance, however, felt a bit subdued and lacked the vibrancy we were expecting. For the main course, we had the Wild Mushroom Biryani and the Lamb Yakhni Pulao. Both dishes were excellent, with rich aromas and perfectly balanced flavors. We also tried the Applewood Smoked Butter Chicken. Although the chicken was exceptionally tender, the smoky flavor wasn't quite to our taste. To finish, we had the Kerala Coconut dessert, which was light, refreshing, and a pleasant end to the meal. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience with excellent food and service, despite the slightly underwhelming ambiance.

Charred Sweet Potato Chaat

Brick Lane in the Arts District is a great spot if you're looking for Indian food with a modern twist. It's definitely more upscale and creative than your typical curry house. We ordered family-style, which was the perfect way to try a bunch of different dishes from Chef Sanjay Rawat. The cocktails were fantastic, and the food was a fun mix of traditional Indian flavors and creative new takes on classic dishes. My favorite of the night was the Charred Sweet Potato Chaat, which reminded me of a mix between pani puri and bhel puri. The Boti Kabab was another standout--the steak was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. Some of the other dishes we tried were the Paneer Keema Saag, Hyderabadi Mushroom Dum Biryani, Grilled Branzino, Applewood Smoked Butter Chicken, Awadhi Lamb Rack, and Hara Lasooni Paneer. Everything was delicious, and there were still plenty of dishes on the menu we want to come back and try. This is definitely a place to go with a few people so you can order a variety of dishes and share. The service was excellent. My wife has a seafood allergy, and the staff was very attentive about letting her know which dishes to avoid and making sure she felt comfortable ordering. Overall, this is a great romantic date-night spot or somewhere to celebrate a special occasion. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back with family and friends.

Applewood Butter Chicken

Heard about this restaurant through Eater LA, so we made the drive (over an hour each way) hoping for a great family dinner. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in recent memory. We arrived promptly at 5:30 p.m. and were the only people there, yet the hostess told us our table needed to be prepared. Meanwhile, several other parties arrived and were seated immediately. At first, we assumed the delay was because we had our toddler with us, even though we had already explained we didn't need a high chair since he would stay in his stroller. But other families with toddlers and infants were seated without issue. Once seated, we ordered and were told it was best to place the full order at once so the chef could send dishes out "as he deemed fit." Our first entree arrived about 20 minutes later, followed by a very long gap before anything else appeared. After finishing the first dish, our plates and utensils were removed and never replaced. A server brought another entree to the table, realized we had no utensils, took the dish back to the kitchen, and asked someone to reset the table. When he returned, it turned out the dish wasn't even ours. By this point, our toddler was understandably getting restless. Anyone dining out with young children knows how much planning goes into making a meal out enjoyable including timing naps, snacks, activities, etc. We had now been sitting there for over an hour with little food and virtually no service. Eventually, we flagged down what appeared to be the head waitress and explained that we hadn't received attention or food in roughly 40 minutes. She apologized and assured us it would be corrected. Our waitress later returned looking nervous and apologized as well, but it was obvious the entire staff was disorganized. The kitchen also seemed painfully slow, as barely any food was leaving it. After yet another wait, our food finally arrived. We ate quickly and eventually had to walk to the host stand ourselves to pay because no one checked on us or brought the bill. The restaurant itself is aesthetically nice, though the surrounding area felt sketchy. More importantly, the food simply didn't justify the experience. Nothing we ordered was particularly memorable -- just expensive, fancy-plated Indian food. If you want truly outstanding wood-fired kebabs and incredible sauces, go to Saffy's instead. Fine dining is about more than presentation. You're paying for food, service, ambiance, and the overall experience. This place currently delivers none of those consistently. They either needed a proper soft opening with limited seating or a more streamlined prix fixe menu until the staff could handle service smoothly. Overall, a frustrating and expensive waste of what was supposed to be quality family time.

old fashioned
Edgar L.

Unfortunate attempt for a fine dining restaurant that needs work still. First impressions, the staff was nice and the restaurant inside seemed aesthetic. However, once I was served, the old fashioned was not an old fashioned. It was slightly more expensive than a typical one and was missing the signature transparent ice cube and marashino cherries with the twisted toothpick that you would see at any fine dining restaurant. Maybe they just happened to run out of the ingredients and resources to provide that (happens). Lamb yakhni, honestly the flavor was there but the portions were not. Almost felt like finding waldo with the actual lamb pieces. Applewood chicken, the sauce was great with the naan and had a little kick of the spice. However...somehow, for a $40 plate there was only 4 pieces of chicken. Maybe that specific chicken was extremely special and blessed by gods or they were just very short on chicken which was why we were served 4 pieces instead of 3-so I am extremely grateful for that. Furthermore, the side of rice was marginally less than the lamb plate (portions were very off) but it's okay, resources were probably short (happens). On yelp, it says reserve for a free dessert. We did a reservation, but the restaurant itself was already very empty so really it wasn't needed. At the front desk, they had some small pastries for all customers. We were told that was the complimentary dessert by the end of our meal. All in all, maybe they were just short on resources, happens. I will not be coming back, ever.

The food, service, and ambiance was all superb! Certainly one of the best new Indian restaurants in LA. A+

Nice place... is why I gave this rating an extra star to get the 4 in writing . Food...was overall good. But service NOT so much. The food took very long to come out after we ordered. To be exact. The app came out in about 20 mins which was okay. But the rest of the actual food came out in 45 minutes which took way too long. There was only 2 chef at the fire pit making food for the whole restaurant. Maby adding 2 more chef would speed up the food time coming out so customers wouldn't have to wait that long. Hopefully if I plan to come back next time it will be a better experience

Had dinner Saturday night . Everything was great food was delicious what I liked about the food was they have made it little modern but have not deviated from the authentic flavors. Most restaurants forget to keep the original flavor so loved that . Cocktails were good . Our host was very nice and helpful in his suggestions with cocktails which actually helped us to make good choices. Will definitely go again . Location was a little turn off but beautiful restaurant. Definitely worth the visit. I hope I got the names right for the dishes and cocktails.

Came back with friends to try new things at Roots today!!!…read moreAs usual, Manasa was extremely welcoming and remembered us. This time we went for dinner and there were little lamplights and it was dim, intimate and so nice. Only thing I would say about this place is it's a little expensive for the quantity they give you. But the taste is really good. Bombay Sangria- I was curious about the tamarind but also a bit wary of it. It tasted so good! One of my fav cocktails. It tastes almost like a spiced fruity red wine. Mac and cheese pakoras- I want to say this is one thing you should not skip here Dosa quesadilla- WOW. Especially with the tomato chutney. Sambhar didn't hit the same, but it's still decent. Verde masala enchilada- pretty decent, not as awesome as the others. If you enjoy an Indian type of enchilada, you'll enjoy it. I wonder how it would be with tamarind sauce. Spiced lamb- good if you like chewy lamb. Otherwise I would recommend the spiced sheekh kabab. Malai Kofta- pleasant and creamy! Garlic naan- sooooo good Gulab jamun- honestly one of the best gulab jamuns I've had! Rasmalai cheesecake- this one is like a tres leches, it hits! They were at closing time and we didn't realize - Manasa said their kitchen was closing in a minute but I'm pretty sure she was being nice and wanted us to get in that last item in.

Easily one of my new favorite fusion dishes and something I will absolutely be ordering again. Just as memorable as the food was the hospitality. Our server, Marisol, was beautiful, warm, and genuinely delightful. She made sure we had a wonderful time from start to finish and made our first visit feel especially welcoming. Then, as if the food and service weren't enough, they surprised us with a complimentary dessert and a handwritten note for our first visit. It was such a thoughtful, personal touch and exactly the kind of hospitality that makes a restaurant stick with you. Fantastic food, wonderful people, and an experience that felt genuinely cared for. I'll definitely be returning--and if you find yourself near Melrose, do yourself a favor and give Roots Indian Bistro a try. The Paneer Fries alone are worth the trip.

And thank the lords that I went with a group so we could try a bunch of different bites~ I will start off by saying that I truly cannot understand some of the haterade or strong dislike comments that talk about lack of flavor because genuinely every dish we tried was flavorful and overall pretty darn delicious. The spice level was actually a bit high for some of my friends but really hit that perfect mild-moderate heat for me. We ordered the dosa onion rings, piri piri fries, paneer parm sandwich, the bbq wings (for my omni friends), the malai rigatoni, and the green chile chutney pizza. We were hungry as a group of 4 but I will admit we had a few bites left at the end that we could not finish. Honestly everything was delicious but the standouts were the piri piri fries and the paneer parm sandwich. The fries came out hot, crispy, so well seasoned with both ketchup and raita dipping sauces; ugh I can't help but love a good potato! The paneer parm sandwich was such a thick, indulgent slab of fried paneer with melted cheese and chutney, chef's kiss would absolutely get again. The dosa onion rings were so true to their name because you could absolutely taste the dosa batter on the outside; it was a tad difficult to bite/cut but otherwise also very solid. The mango chutney that it came with hit and this is coming from a girl who usually doesn't like sweet chutneys. The green chile chutney pizza was sooo tasty; good fusion between a classic pizza and I love green chutney so could it get better than this? We tried both alcoholic and N/A drinks and they were delicious! The tandoori spritz was A+ imo. The interior is bright and it's fun to really hit a sports bar with such an eclectic fusion of foods. It was interesting to see the variety of sports they had on each TV too. Even with the small comment on service below, this place deserves a 5/5 and I would totally return. Prices are very fair for quality, esp in this economy. Service was...interesting. Friendly overall, checked in on us when first items were dropped off, but not again. When we were ordering, we wanted to be mindful of portions/quantity so we asked for some guidance and were essentially told "well I don't believe in restricting myself and you guys are all adults so you should order what you want." Totally understand the energy and intention, but did find it rather unhelpful as we were visiting from out of town and had no place to store leftovers. I understand the role of server when it comes to upselling, but it was a really strange interaction when we were already ordering quite a bit.

It is arctic cold in here! Maybe our table is right below…read morethe vent. The bar seemed a bit warmer. The tables are so close together in the dining room you'd can feel the person next to you exhale on one side, On the other, a woman with a terribly affected glottal stop voice was piercingly annoying... not a problem of the restaurant, but the fact she was so close she could eat off our plate was dismaying. $29 for macaroni with a bit of lamb in it was flavorful. A bit of crunch from what seemed like tiny bits of pickled carrot. The $27 Green Tiki masala pizza just seemed like a slightly more flavorful sausage pizza with a crispy parm crust. The onion rings at the table on one side looked good. The soft serve ice cream at the other also looked yummy. Don't come here if you are looking for a healthy meal with nutritional value. But if you want a snack while watching a game, there are so many screens to choose from. A happening bar scene, but won't be back for the food.
