Sous Sous's street corner was in a valet lined residential neighborhood (a memorable one) with streets that lead to the hotel kiosk. Few notes- hit the door and we ordered wine for a dinner and drinks soirée. 2. Bar hopped hotel Lucile and the dining area here, Tiki Bar and Bar Stella as well. 3. For future reference, I am amazed at the style of premium, and select gourmand. Drinks were photogenic.

I have been to Sous Sous twice now. I wanted to go twice because the first time I visited was right when they opened at 5 PM slot up at the bar. The second time I went was with a friend and we had 8 PM reservations. So I've seen it in the day and at night. The restaurant is gorgeous in both settings. In the day, the light comes through those stain glass windows, and at night the lights inside light up that pink wall art so the location is gorgeous, yes. The food also is fantastic. I've had the steak. I've had that glorious cheeseburger au poivre and the hassleback potato, the hushpuppies, the sundae, the shrimp, oysters as well as the bib lettuce salad. The food is five stars. Where this place lacks right now is that they are new and figuring things out I think service wise. From the location aspect I think they have learned during this heat wave that as gorgeous as this giant room looks. It's pretty hard to cool down. When I was there for dinner at 8 PM as good as the food was, we were sitting in stale miserable heat. No air felt like it was circulating at all. We didn't even want dessert. We just wanted to get out as quickly as possible. From the service aspect, and again I bartended and waited tables for years and years, greeting at the host stand is a little clunky. They're all super nice. There seems to be too many of them and with that narrow entrance is just seems chaotic. I trust they'll figure that out. Also, both times I thought the servers at the bar and the server that we had at dinner at a table still need work. The timing of things is a little off. Our server at the dinner service would disappear so much that another server seemed to be waiting on us more than who our server was supposed to be. And it wasn't that she was on break cause I could see her walking around. She also asked for our drink order twice and we had to remind her that we had already given it to her, and she said oh yes, which means she forgot to put them in, which was evident when it took forever for them to arrive. The salad, which tastes amazing, when I ordered it at my 5 PM setting one day it was one size (giant) and when I ordered it at 8 PM the next week it was a smaller size. Consistency. Consistency. When she finally came back to the table at the end, she didn't even offer us a dessert menu she said can I bring you your check? Is that all type of close? We actually asked for the dessert menu (my friend wanted to see it, I wanted out!) which she didnt have in her pocket at the time. She had to go off and find a dessert menu. Server tip: never ask someone if they want dessert, you present the dessert menu. So I would say right now they're at about 3 1/2 stars, but I was nice and rounded up to 4. I fully trust that this location will be a 5 Star restaurant in the near future. Give them some time.

NEW YORK STRIP STEAK

New French American restaurant in Silverlake located inside the hotel Lucile, which is a boutique hotel converted from a historic 1931 Presbyterian church. Very unique in itself. Parking is pretty much non existent, and even street parking requires permits, so your best bet is to valet unless you want to park a distance away (the valet guy said the lot is a half mile away and apologized for our wait after dinner). Inside, you can tell you're eating in a converted church. It felt hot inside the restaurant, and I didn't necessarily see AC vents anywhere, but from time to time you could feel a coolness. But, overall, a warm dining experience. We started with cocktails, the Frappe and the Georgia Peach. The Georgia Peach is a whiskey based cocktail with peach, but the peach was secondary to the whiskey. Could have been better but not bad per say. The Frappe was very flavorful, rum based with nice fruit notes. For food, we started with the oysters and the crudo. The oysters were pretty good, creamy, not sure where they were from, but they were tasty. The crudo was fresh, thick slices of fish topped with virgin peanuts for some crunch and a red pepper relish. Nice bite but felt like it was missing something to bring it all together. For entrees we went with the NY strip steak and Le Burg. The steak comes Au Poivre with pearl onions. It was cooked well and that pepper sauce was nice. Le Burg was delicious, and you can also get that au poivre if you want. I went the way it is presented on the menu and it is an amazing burger. It might be even better au poivre, but it was just delicious as it was, no complaints. I'd definitely order it again without hesitation. Overall, new French American restaurant in Silverlake serving up elevated cuisine in a former church. Drinks were good, I'd get the Frappe but pass on the Georgia Peach. Oysters were great and the crudo was very fresh. The steak was cooked well and served au poivre, while the burger was amazing and might be in my top five burgers in LA.

I had recently dined at Sous Sous, the re-designed 1900's church. I thought the actual building was breathtaking, and liked how they kept a lot of the charm, stained glass windows, etc. What I didn't like was how a church is being turned into a bar and/or a place that sells liquor. Something just doesn't sit right with me regarding that. You get a bit of an eerie feeling. Now onto the food, everything was great. - Hamachi Crudo 10/10 -Oysters 7/10 - Corn Gnocchi 10/10 - Potato side dish 10/10 - Steak 10/10 Cocktails: 3/10. (Although, we didn't like the concept of the liquor being sold and consumed in a church; we did have some, in order to give an honest and complete review). Their cocktail menu is embarrassingly limited and unappetizing. It needs to be re-done. Service: 6/10. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed, and our drinks came so late. We were waiting 20-min after our oysters arrived. We didn't like her attitude, but tried our best not to bug her for anything.

Food was excellent. Ambiance was very unique- set in an old church, dim lighting, interesting art. Perfect for a date spot or group dinner with a few friends. We ordered the shrimp and chicken liver for starters both amazing. Some of the best chicken liver pate I've had in la. For entrees- we had the trout, burger au poive, chicken, fries and potatoes. All outstanding. My favorite was the trout but tbh- everything was delicious you can't go wrong w any of them. There wasn't a single miss on our order and my 3 friends all agreed. We finished the marshmallow chocolate dessert. Also great! 10/10 dinner. I've been hoping for a great French restaurant to open in la since the closing of Bicyclette and happy to see it finally happened. Highly highly recommend!!

New restaurant in silver lake in the lobby of a hotel. Really nice ambience and good service. We got the hamachi crudo tomato salad fries and New York strip. New York strip came with really fatty pieces. Crudo had peanuts that we found interesting. My boyfriend was a big fan of the tomato salad.

ous Sous, inside Hotel Lucile, is an absolute gem in Silver Lake. The hotel was originally a church, and the restaurant beautifully preserves that history, from the soaring ceilings and original stained-glass windows to the dramatic arches, while creating a stylish, warm and inviting space. The design is stunning, with thoughtful details at every turn, from the bar and lighting to the artwork and cozy seating areas. It feels unique, special and unlike any other restaurant in Los Angeles. We started with a few exceptional martinis, which were perfectly made. The hamachi crudo was delicious, fresh, delicate and full of flavor. The gnocchi was another standout, and the roasted chicken was excellent. Everything we ordered was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully executed. The service from the entire staff was impeccable, friendly, attentive and professional without ever being overbearing. They made the whole experience feel effortless and enjoyable. Great cocktails, fantastic food, impeccable service and a breathtaking setting. Sous Sous at Hotel Lucile is a must-visit, and I can't wait to go back.

We were able to walk in and sat at the bar at 5pm for dinner. Food was amazing as was the service. Had the margarita and was one of the best drinks I've ever had. Ambiance was incredible being in a former church.

This was like one of those experiences you have in LA where it is completely unique unlike anything you've seen or had before and just an incredible energy and even better tasting food that's worth a while. You're having dinner at a former church. Not only that, but it was completely reasonable prices for the quality of food that you're having and the service that's being catered to you if this doesn't win a Michelin star by the end of the year, the game is rigged.

We had the most incredible experience at Sous Sous! Amazing food, service, drinks & atmosphere - get the green tomato margarita (i was skeptical but tried my husbands and ended up ordering my own)! Can't wait for our next visit, will be back very soon xx

Georgia Peach, Lucille Martini, Bib lettuce salad, and crab salad

LITERALLY the best thing ive eaten all year. We got a reservation at 5 because that's what was available... it's a new restaurant, guys!!! First off, the ambience is beautiful! Everyone who works there was very warm and welcoming, the pacing of ordering was perfect, and Keith was a wonderful waiter and very knowledgeable on the menu. I came with a friend, and we ordered the crab salad, bib lettuce salad, hush puppies, chicken liver, and rainbow trout. Everything was delicious, and the sourdough bread the chicken liver came with was very good and filling!! For drinks we had the Georgia Peach and the Lucille martini. The Georgia peach wasn't too sweet, despite having a crust of sugar on the outside. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the chocolate dessert we had -- it had a toasted marshmallow cream on top and was rich, but well balanced with the cookie in the middle. We will be back!!!

Ask the Community - Sous Sous

Is there a menu available?

I asked the same question - no but expect $$$ it's a good selection though.

I can't seem to determine what the menu consists of. Is it just a tasting menu with set items? If so, are there vegetarian choices?

Unfortunately they didn't make it to their 100th Anniversary since they are closing on March 29th. They are allegedly "hopefully" reopening in 3-4 years, but who knows if that will actually happen? We didn't want to take that chance, so my son and I decided to come by for dinner tonight and we are so glad we did. This restaurant is beautiful and filled with nostalgia for me personally. I have been here so many times in the past, whether it was with friends, family, or coworkers. We have celebrated countless events and milestones here with many people and it's definitely sad that they're shutting down. Once we walked in, we were greeted by the pleasant hostess Michelle who was able to seat us immediately without a reservation. We were seated in the Garden Room and she mentioned that there were 3 other rooms in the restaurant plus the lounge/bar area, which is first come, first served. Sally was our waitress and she had a very cheerful, happy, and joyful demeanor. She knew her job well and brought us everything we asked for with no mistakes and checked on us to make sure all was well. She provided excellent customer service. I ordered a bowl of their French Onion Soup ($13) as an appetizer and it was just ok. I've had better. It was a bit too hearty for me and not soupy enough. For my entrée, I ordered the Trout Almondine ($35) and it was simply DELICIOUS. The trout was cooked to perfection and it came with a side of tender green beans and rice pilaf. Everything on the plate was exquisite, including the Beurre Blanc sauce. Sally was nice enough to throw in a small side Caesar Salad for me on the house, which was greatly appreciated! My son ordered a Cosmopolitan ($13) which he said was fine but not the best. It was extremely strong on the vodka and not well balanced with the lime/cranberry. He ordered the Steak Frites Au Poivre ($36) but substituted the fries for green beans and absolutely devoured his plate. The steak was cooked exactly to medium rare and the peppercorn sauce was fantastic. He used the bread from the bread basket to clean every drop of sauce off the plate when he finished. He opted for the $7 addition of the Soup du Jour (Lentil) and Caesar Salad onto his meal. The Caesars were delicious but honestly a bit too packed with Parmesan cheese for our taste. It was genuinely a very huge pile. Speaking of huge, I have to note that the portions are pretty big and appropriately priced. You get a lot of bang for your buck here, especially for a French restaurant! It was pretty packed here for a Wednesday night, but since they're closed on Mon/Tues, I can see how Wednsdays would be busy. Everyone wants to come get some delicious French food. We waited quite a bit for our entrees, a good 30min, but everything else came out pretty quickly. Neither of us felt like having dessert so we skipped it this time around. We are so glad we got to experience this restaurant one more time before their closure. If they really do end up coming back in a few years, we will gladly be back as well. There are 2 restrooms here, one for men and one for women. Both were clean and stocked with soap, paper towels, etc. They have valet parking outside or you can go searching for some meters/residential parking instead. Well, Taix...thank you for all the great food and lovely memories. Good luck on your future journey!

My friend ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, which he declared very good. The whole sandwich was dipped in chili oil and served with jalapeños, so it was spicy indeed. Just what he ordered. I had lager-steamed mussels with sour dough toast. I love steamed mussels, as a rule, but I usually have had them steamed with wine and butter. These were, as the name suggests, steamed with lager. Unfortunately, lager is somewhat bitter that militates against the inherent sweetness of the mussels, so I didn't enjoy them so much. The dark, toasted bread was good dipped in the broth to soften it up. Service was cheerful and attentive, and the background music of soft rock oldies, played low enough for easy conversation, created a pleasant ambience. I would definitely visit again, but I would not order mussels in lager.

I must admit that this review is long overdue!…read more I have dined here at least 3 times with my latest at the chef's counter on a Friday evening and was the perfect date night spot. I lucked out with reservations on OpenTable last minute when they released a bunch of counter availability. Which is crazy since it's so hard to get a reservation that isn't at 9:45pm. My only concern was that we might be seated in front of the fire stove where the majority of the cooking is done because it can get hot and coupled with the the summer weather, I was worried about sweating lol. Luckily, we were seated at the opposite end and had the best view and enjoyed watching the chefs prep our meal. They don't serve cocktails here, just wine, and we started with two glasses of bubbly, which were delicious! However, when we tried to transition to the other wines available by the glass, none of them tasted that great and almost tasted too acidic or maybe had too many tanins for my liking. As a result, we reverted back to the sparkling wine. However, I do want to take a moment to express how amazing our server was because he was kind enough to let us sample all the reds by the glass before we committed to a glass. Also, I appreciated that he didn't chastise us when we didn't end up liking any of them. However, I absolutely love the food here! The one thing that you must get is the CORNBREAD! It's nothing like you've ever had before and is their signature dish. It's comforting, it's buttery and feels like home. I've also gotten the Pork and Green Chili Stew which is amazing (think Chile Verde). I've also tried their Ribeye, and for the price, I'm not sure that it's my favorite item on the menu. For my most recent visit, we ordered the following: Bluefin Tuna Toast - This was light and refreshing, but also filling since it sits on a slice of bread. This was enjoyable but I preferred the Baby Albacore. Baby Albacore - This is such a small dish and I think it only has six slices of fish, but it has so much depth of flavor and so much texture with the crispy shallots that we were tempted to order another one! This is a beautifully executed dish. And the best part was that we got to watch it being prepared in front of us. Mushroom Crusted Pork Chop - I had been reading that this was such an amazing dish, so I made sure to try it this time around! It did not disappoint! It was incredibly flavorful and rich. My boyfriend, who is not a fan of pork really enjoyed this dish. Sliced market tomatoes - this is a no-frills side dish, but felt that this was a perfect balance as something fresh and light against the rich and fattiness of the pork chop. I was worried that this would not be enough food for the two of us since I have a big appetite, but suffice to say I was very satisfied! The service is here is outstanding! I wish I got the name of my server, but he reminded me of Teddy Swims! He was attentive, friendly, and very accommodating! It was the best service I've had in a while! One last thing, I didn't try any desserts this time around, but I still very fondly remember the passionfruit icebox cake... Please bring that back!!!

Good Food, Questionable Soul…read more Dunsmoor is a good restaurant. There's no denying that. The food is thoughtfully prepared, the ingredients are clearly taken seriously, and the space itself is beautifully executed. You can tell a tremendous amount of effort went into creating the experience, from the kitchen to the architecture. But there's something about this place that doesn't quite sit right with me. Los Angeles is a city built on contradictions, and Dunsmoor feels like another one of them. An ambitious, upscale dining experience planted in a neighborhood with an entirely different cultural identity. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. Great food belongs everywhere. But there's a fine line between contributing to a neighborhood and feeling disconnected from it. Maybe it's the atmosphere. Maybe it's the crowd. Maybe it's simply the experience I had that evening. Whatever it was, I couldn't shake the feeling that something about the place lacked authenticity. Not the food, and certainly not the employees, who deserve credit for their work. More so the social environment. There's a particular kind of performative sophistication that Los Angeles does exceptionally well, and unfortunately, Dunsmoor seems to attract a bit of it. Then there's the pricing. I appreciate good food, and I respect the labor and craftsmanship behind it. But this is Los Angeles, a city where some of the most extraordinary meals you'll ever eat come from kitchens charging a fraction of the price. When you're paying upwards of $40 for an entrée, you're paying for more than what's on the plate. Ultimately, Dunsmoor delivers on its culinary ambitions. The food is good, the execution is impressive, and the restaurant itself is undeniably attractive. But good food doesn't automatically make for a great experience. Sometimes a restaurant can get everything technically right and still leave you feeling like something essential is missing. That's Dunsmoor for me.
