Stopped at Athena Restaurant for lunch while exploring St. Augustine on vacation, and it was a great choice! The service was absolutely phenomenal--friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We tried the Mahi and shrimp lunch specials, and both dishes were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The decor is a bit dated, but it adds to the homey, comfortable vibe that makes you feel like a welcomed guest. A solid spot for a satisfying meal with great service in the heart of the historic district. Would definitely return!

My co-workers and I stopped in for lunch. I love the indoor mural and the atmosphere of the restaurant. The waitress was servicing the restaurant by herself. But she was very quick, gave great service, was super friendly and got out food out. The gyro was very large and it tasted good. My coworker got the flaming cheese and it was fun watching the waitress light up and flame the cheese. Overall, it tasted good.

Awwww! Really enjoyed this restuarant! We popped in on Sat night and they weren't too busy, which I was surprised cause it's in a great area, right on the main strip! Our server was amazing, so sweet and welcoming! We started with the flaming cheese, so fun, and unique taste, with the lemon squeezed on top, served with hot pita it was gone in flash. They have a few combo dinners served with Greek salad and a grape leave, we got the combo that you got to try 3 things, mousakka, pastichio, and spinach pie ( sorry probably misspelled those) It was delicious!! I really enjoyed everything!

So good! Fresh ingredients and great service. So happy to have found a local greek spot, we will be back.

From my seat looking out the door. The city of St Augistine waits just beyond the door to explore. Christmas lights shows.

So we just left the book walking downtown St Augistine. Walking by Athena restaurant saw it was Greek. I couldn't help myself being half Greek I had to turn in. Because Peggy's boyfriend turned and she turned in. Tonya waited on us was pleasant as ever. Looking at the menu it's very authentic. I ordered the Greek Village salad Peggy ordered Caesar salad with chicken. Yum Yum can't wait I'm starving of course you know what that means it's guaranteed to taste better. Tonya didn't mention they have baklava. Yum Yum again can't wait. Nice thing as we're here for a couple more days so there may be a second trip back here. You should check it out.

We stopped by before Nights of Lights and we were overall very impressed! The restaurant is right near the lights and had a fair number of tables available. I enjoyed the atmosphere and liked that the noise level inside was not crazy. We were all really hungry and the plates were definitely a good size! I split the spinach pie and pastistio plate. Both were really yummy! The spinach pie was a bit dry, but the filling was flavorful. I really liked the pastistio. It has great seasoning and was really satisfying. The Greek salad dressing was fabulous! Service was average, and overall we really enjoyed our meal.

The service is quick as well as your food arriving. I am a local and this place is never busy and they have great murals of St A history on all of walls in panoramic views of the city. An old Greek family owns this place, the Alcazar Cafe and Georgie's diner. The tzatziki is the best because of the high garlic level which we love. The saganaki cheese app for $15 is totally worth it. You will be hard pressed to find a Greek place in the area that offers this app. Who doesn't love acid and fat with flames!? You can order the paired dry red Greek wine to accompany this dish. The gyro is enormous and it is very to hard to finish. It is a great value for the restaurant. There is a lot gyro meat. There is not huge chunks of feta as you would expect. That is an upcharge. I adore feta but I don't get it as the sandwich is great without it. The house fries come on a good sized plate and are seasoned. They are hot and tasty. Great add for $4. We got 2 gyro sandwiches, saganaki and one Pepsi. With tax and auto added 18% tip you will spend $75. That is steep.

We have been to this restaurant "years" ago and were glad it still is here! The food was great! The flaming cheese is a must for an app! I like the combination plates so I can try several things. We were celebrating my husband's birthday with our daughters who are normally busy with their own families but they made time for us..special! Service is good and the evening was very nice!

Just needed a good Greek restaurant. Checked around and saw this on yelp. Haven't been in st augustine in awhile. First thing you need to do is order the saganaki. Always a requirement at a Greek restaurant. Done with gusto and of course oompah! Very good and the pita points were very fresh I had the gyro platter traditional. Good salad with it and the tzatziki sauce was very tasty. Candycd had the pastistio and it was nice portion. Very good and she loved it. Nice little quiet place. Good service and great food. A new favorite Greek place to get your Greek fix.

Athena Greek Cuisine St. Augustine, FL This restaurant is highly underrated! My husband and daughter and I ate here this past Friday for his birthday . Always amazing service and food! There's never a wait, we get right in. It's walking distance from any B&B you might be staying at. It's wonderfully decorated and the people are great! Definitely go check them out. Prices: $20-$30 Address: 14 Cathedral Pl, St. Augustine, FL 32084 There's no parking lot. There is a few street parking.

I was walking around St. Augustine today and decided to pop into this place for lunch. It was a fantastic find. I felt like I was back in Greece. They have appetizers, salads, gyros, and entrees. I opted for the gyro combo. It came with several slices of gyro meat, tzicki, pita, a Greek salad, and a stuffed grape leave. Everything tasted great. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in St. Augustine. Service was quick.

Every time I come here, I am never less than amazed. Today I decided to try something different and got their lemon chicken and rice soup. If you're looking for something a little less filling than a gyro, I highly recommend! So tasty! I got the grape leaves as always which will forever remain a favorite. This is a great spot if you're in the downtown Saint Augustine area!

The cozy interior set the tone, and our servers were cheerful and welcoming. We started with ice cold Polish beer while deciding on our meal. The beer was served in perfectly chilled glass with a thin layer of ice which was a great touch. We shared a Greek salad to start. It was incredibly fresh and flavorful, generously loaded with insane amount of feta (no complaints here). For the main, I got the Kielbasa special which came with 4 pierogies (you can mix and match the fillings), Kielbasa sausage and sauerkraut. The potato&cheese pierogies were my favorite, subtle in flavor, perfectly textured and tasted like true homemade comfort food. The sauerkraut was also hands down some of the best I've ever had. Sadly I have no room to try desserts. This was the best meal of my entire trip, and I'll absolutely be back to try more dishes if I'm in town.

Gaufre's & Goods is tucked away down a back street so if you're not looking for it you most likely will miss it. We came in for a late lunch but were not looking for something super heavy so this was perfect. I started off with a Hevelius Kaper Beer which I really enjoyed. They also had a lot of other Greek and Polish beers that I had never heard of so you gotta try one. For my entree I originally was going to go with the Gyro but then I saw that they have Goulash which I very much enjoy but rarely can find it. Our food came out pretty quickly and I was give a large bowl of Goulash as well as some fresh bread. Ashley of course went with a Mix of Pierogies and added bacon & onions to it. My Goulash was very flavor and dipping the bread in the broth was great. I will say it was thinner then other Goulash's I have had. This was more of a broth base where I enjoy a bit of a thicker stew type. Still something I would recommend getting especially with the limited option we have in the area and this will hit the spot. Ashley also did get a order of Blackberry Pierogies that I never got to try since she ran off with it after we got back to where we were staying. This is for sure a great family restaurant you have to check out.

From the moment we walked in, the space felt clean, bright, and welcoming, with a simple Mediterranean style that made it comfortable to dine in. There was a steady stream of customers coming and going, both dining in and picking up takeout, which immediately told us this place has built a loyal following. The food is where The Great Greek really shines. We started with the four dip combo, and honestly, that alone is worth the visit. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and full of flavor without being heavy. The tirokafteri had a bold kick that built just enough heat to keep things interesting. Paired with plenty of warm, soft pita, it is an easy dish to share and one we would happily order every time. For our main dishes, I ordered the gyro, which I often use as a benchmark when trying a Greek restaurant. The meat was flavorful, the pita was fresh, and the tzatziki sauce really stood out, tying everything together beautifully. The feta fries were another highlight and were hard to stop eating. Susan ordered the Atlantic salmon, and it ended up being the biggest surprise of the meal. It was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and paired with sides that complemented the fish rather than overpowering it. Portion sizes are generous, pricing feels very fair for the quality and amount of food, and service was friendly and efficient throughout our visit. Even though this is a counter service restaurant, staff brought the food to the table and checked in to make sure everything was just right. We even left with leftovers and dessert to enjoy later, which is always a good sign. What we thought would be a quick meal turned into a really enjoyable dining experience. This is a restaurant we will absolutely be returning to and one we are happy to recommend to anyone looking for great Greek food done well.

And eating out now is so expensive that the meal better be worth it.   Sadly, I'm not going back to the Athenian Owl. (Even though Georgia promised to set me up with a nice Greek man.) My biggest complaints were the TINY servings for mostly overpriced dishes (especially the Souvlaki and the grilled Octopus), and the comically bad service .... Especially maddening is that a steady Greek Chorus of customers have lodged similar complaints on Google and Yelp -- all seemingly to no avail. Georgia's son George, the otherwise friendly owner, responds to each critical review with only a sarcastic "Have a Blessed Day!"  The Athenian Owl offers a big variety of home-style, traditional Greek dishes. The family launched it about a decade ago -- after opening and running for years, then selling -- the still-popular Athens Cafe. I hosted a luncheon for four. I prepared a tasting menu of shared platters (see orange menu photo), and went to the restaurant days ahead to go over it with Georgia. I prepaid $292, no drinks, tax included. I left a $50 cash tip at the table (frankly, that was kind).   Greeks are huge on hospitality, and take pride in being generous hosts. And they eat big. Even an ordinary Greek meal feels like Thanksgiving, with loosened belts and emergency naps ....  So, when skimpy platters landed on the table, I was taken aback -- and upset. Days later, I'm still upset .... I've eaten hundreds of Greek meals (was even fed Greek baby food! lol), and I have Never, EVER, seen such skimpy servings! It was like that old TV ad: Where's the beef?   BEST: -- Hummus dip w/ pita -- Saganaki flambé: fried Kefalograviera cheese. Alas, instead of a dramatic fiery show, the waitress lit only a small flame that quickly extinguished. Still tasty, but disappointing. -- Spanakopita: Spinach & Feta w/ phyllo crust. Get the entree pie, not the appetizers' triangles. But $20/slice is too high -- Grilled Vegetable Souvlaki -- Sautéed Mushrooms w/Capers: not on the menu, but it's the Riganato dish, minus the lemon sauce -- Baklava: phyllo pastry of chopped nuts & syrup -- Galaktoboureko: custard pie w/phyllo crust & syrup JUST OK: -- Pastichio: Greek lasagna. Too little ground beef. And I couldn't detect any cheese or sauce. It was mostly just noodle, ridiculous at $21/portion. The bechamel rescued it for me, but my guests barely touched it. -- Dolmades: stuffed grape leaves. So-so, saved by the lemon sauce topping. Dolmades at the Whole Foods' buffet are tastier -- and they come from a can! -- Elliniki salad: good tomatoes and vinaigrette. Tasteless Feta chunks. Overrun w/ onion. HARD PASS: -- Souvlaki: each Kebob chunk was TINY. And the serving sizes were also galling. I ordered 3 skewers of chicken ($30) and 2 of lamb ($24), and we barely got half the meat that's typically served at other Greek venues -- at like twice the price! .... I was so irked that I called Georgia over. C'mon, chicken is cheap. I've had bigger and better for 10 bucks at street food trucks.  -- Grilled Octopus: a Greek specialty, and traditionally a signature dish. I complained to Georgia again: Not only was the serving not the customary entire tentacle, but it was also the world's thinnest. What, was this the last octopus in the ocean? At $24: another rip-off. -- Avgolemono: supposed to be thick and creamy soup, with a lemony egg broth. It was thin, as if watered-down. Almost no chicken or rice. -- Lemon Roasted Potatoes: lemon? undercooked  -- Orzo "Rice": the waitress delivered this pasta side after the meal was over. Literally a "leftover," so I took it home. Blah.  Speaking of the waitress: Other reviewers here have often cited woeful service. Our waitress was nice and well-meaning, but .... She forgot the Orzo. Ditto the Tzatziki yogurt dip and pita w/ the Souvlaki. She screwed up the Saganaki flambé. She delivered the meals in the wrong sequence. She even had to be reminded twice to bring the bread basket .... What's nuts: She didn't have to write down a single dish -- it was all pre-ordered! And, she had only a few other tables. Luckily, Georgia often checked-up and pitched-in. I bumped-up a Star here for her.
