I was recommended ARS by a client. I was not aware of this company and could not find them in the Better Business Bureau. I was wary going with a completely unknown company but surprisingly fine. I dont use YELP until now, so I did not see the two bad reviews. I am sure if my wife saw this as she uses it often, she would have refused. Here was my experience as well as some tips for the next time:
Scheduling - This can be done by the phone or email. Alex was the one I talked to on the phone and it went well. I was impressed because I called on a Friday, (Jan 2nd) to schedule a move on a Monday (Jan 5th) and they were able to schedule something for 9am-10am. The communication was good and I had constant emails and I was clear on what was needed. However, I could not get a hold of them at 8am or 9am that morning, but they did receive my emails. I also got a call from the movers telling me when they were going to arrive. (Something I will reconsider next time) These guys were based in Reston. Since I could not find them online or anything about them at the moment, I didnt know this when I scheduled the move. It took them a long time fighting the traffic to get to my apartment in Rockville. Make sure when you use these guys, you are in Virginia. I was ignorant of this fact and wondered what was taking so long. Five stars
Arrival - It took a half hour more for the arrival due to the drive. Not sure if it was because these guys were slow or the traffic. I met them outside and was introduced to Rus King and Joe (from Kazakhstan). Quiet guys but asked questions when needed. I guess standard is two guys for a one bedrooom apartment. That is what I get for getting a out of state moving service. Luckily, it was 99 dollars for the arrival fee and I wasnt charged time at the beginning. We filled out the paperwork and they signed in at the time it was we walked in the apartment and I showed them everything they were going to move. I only fault these guys for not going over the extra packing materials and other charges in detail. Other than that, there was nothing wrong with the arrival. Four stars.
Loading - Hint: When you have two guys moving from a painfully high rise apartment, it will take some time. Rus and Joe did the best they could under the conditions. There was no direct line to the elevator so it took some time to do it. It took five hours to move out. Because of the two guys, it took some time. This isnt harping on them. Rus and Joe didnt stop moving the items. They took great care of everything and they wrapped everything in boxes and tape, especially when I ran out of them. They worked through lunch and didnt take a break to eat. Great work ethic. They didnt want me to help at all. They can take apart furniture without instruction. Five Stars
Driving to the new place - This took some time as well. Again, it was either traffic or bad directions. They used GPS to the new area but it took longer than I wanted. I am slightly grateful because the slow driving means that is a better chance or not breaking my things. I understood that it will take some time because it was 4:30-5:30pm and they were taking 495 from Rockville to Columbia. I get that. Traffic is a bitch in Maryland. Three stars.
Unloading - Me and my wife helped with the move into the new place. It was much easier because it was only one flight of stairs. It took an hour and a half this time. Joe and Rus put all the furniture together that was needed. I was told if you pay in cash, there is a discount. I believe it is five percent. Total price was 732 dollars for the move, not including the tip. I only had one chip in my entertainment center. Nothing else was damaged to my knowledge. Five stars.
Would I recommend them? Only if the client is in Virginia. This was a good move and worked out great. Joe was a nice guy but didnt speak English very well, but we did talk a bit and he asked questions and took directions well. Rus was a true professional. To make this move better, is to have someone go over all the extra and additional costs. Whether this is the guy on the phone when you start or the movers. Vehicle travel time is something that no one likes but this is a small state and the traffic here is abysmal and depressing. My advice is watch out for the hidden charges to make sure you are comfortable with them and make sure you note the start and stop time before and after you start. read more
