I have tried this eye center with 3 people in my family - keep giving them the another time to redeem themselves, but this last time was too much. For all 3 of us, the wait times to see the dr are crazy long - like 45min to an hour past appt time. They put you in a room and just abandon you. Complete lack of respect for a person's time. No apologies and no explanations or checking back in on you. They are obviously trying to cram in too many appts during the day and the dr can't keep up. We will not return - promptness and respect of time for dr and patient are too important! read more

I bought a nice pair of glasses from this location about 2 years ago with a 1 year warranty. My lens was a little loose (I told them that I am kinda hard on glasses and it was likely my fault so I was prepared to pay for repairs) but they said let them look at it and then they covered the ordering and installation of new lens! I immediately left and made an appointment for an eye exam because if that's the kind of service this place provides, then I need to get some new sunglasses from them! You should try them too. My glasses had gotten loose and I needed them tightened but was hesitant to go inside anywhere cause pandemic. I called Arbor Eye Center and the lovely woman who answered the phone said I could come by. I parked curbside, they came out and got my glasses, adjusted them and brought back to me, and didn't charge anything. It has taken me WAY too long to post this review! I have been going to Dr. Ellen Crothers at Arbor Eye for the last 4 years since moving back to Austin, and I will never go anywhere else. Every person that works there is extremely knowledgeable. The customer service is exceptional, and it is obvious they all love their job. You don't see that every day! But above all, had it not been for Dr. Crothers and their high tech retinal eye exam, I likely would not have known about a retinal condition that I have. I went to Arbor Eye Center as a second opinion, I had been to another doctor and left there distressed. I was concerned I didn't get enough evaluation on my vision and was told I had an eye disease I had never been diagnosed with before! I was greeted at Arbor Eye Center by Callie. She has a WONDERFUL personality and immediately (over the phone) made me realize I was headed to the right place! She quelled all of my concerns and fears and when I walked through the door, she did all of my pre-testing and made me feel comfortable. Dr. Novak was amazing and answered all of my questions and had so much patience with me. She explained the disease fully to me, and gave me much more information than I previously received. I was not in need of $8,000 of uncovered services immediately, as I had been told at the other doctor. I picked out very cute glasses and got all of my options from Callie, including learning about magnetic sunglass clip-ons, which, again, was never an option for me anywhere else. I am SO HAPPY I found this eye doctor, I only wished I found them first and saved myself the anguish and being upset! I highly recommend them! For something as important as your vision and eyesight, its so very important that you feel like you are getting the best care and the people who work there are friendly and responsive to your concerns. They are not open on weekends, so if you need to cancel an appointment for Monday, you will be charged the cancellation fee. Doesn't seem to make much sense since sometimes things come up during the weekend and plans change. They should make accomodations for situations like these. read more

Arbor Eye Center - Caring, Professional, and Really, Ridiculously Good-Looking! I drove by AEC and, on a whim, walked in to make an appointment. It started well, with the woman at the front desk not having the bored, affected look of someone who takes their job for granted. She greeted me nicely, asked me the pertinent questions, and even APOLOGIZED that they couldn't get me in the same day. So when I stumbled in for my appointment a week later, half-asleep and foggy-eyed, I was happy to find there was not a pile of paperwork waiting for me. In the time between setting up the appointment and my visit, I suppose they verified insurance and the whole nine - unlike others who wait until you've arrived to do that kind of work. The tech at the front desk was nice, conversational, but not overly-intrusive. She performed the preliminary tests with adeptness and professionalism, instead of the auto-pilot zombie mode a lot of techs employ. Dr. Crothers was friendly, professional, and friggin' adorable - as was everyone working there. Not that this should be a reason to go there, necessarily. What impressed me was the vast difference between my former optometrists and the people at AEC. Instead of immediately jumping into "This one? Or...this one? One? Or two?" Dr. Crothers immediately cued into an eye issue I wasn't even aware of, but had seen symptoms of for a long time. She educated me on my eye problem, instead of forcing me to google it and getting lost in the jargon. Even if you're neurotic like me, and aren't always a fan of intimate, small spaces, it's worth a visit. The staff actually cares about what they do, care about making you comfortable, and they care about your overall eye health. The eyeglasses prices are on the mid to high range, but with insurance it's not so bad. The frames "menu" is exceptional, and Frank (I believe) gave me great tips on what frames would compliment everything from my eyes to the size of my head! The only reason this review is 4 stars instead of 5 is that I feel they could have done a better job of informing me about my eyeglasses order. They were unable to make them in their lab, so they had to order. I didn't really get a good ball-park as to how long, but I assumed a day or two at best. I waited almost a week without hearing anything from them, and when I called they could not locate one of my lenses. of course they were extremely nice about it and offered me a temporary pair while we waited, but I declined as it was not urgent. Still waiting, though! Even with this minor inconvenience, I'd still say it was the best optometry experience I've ever had, and I have already suggested them to others. read more

I hadn't found a good eye doctor in the Austin area. One evening, I was at my normal HEB, in a very slow-moving line, and I commented on the fantastic eyeglasses being worn by the person in front of me in line. As she turned to accept my thanks, I saw Arbor Eye Center on her scrub-type blouse. I then asked her about the logo, and she gave me a business card. The small bit of chitchat in line, and the awesome glasses she had intrigued me. I was due for an eye exam and they accept my insurance, so I set up an appointment. First off, the office has an amazing collection of frames!! Anything you could want, from funky-chunky and neon hot pink, to leopard-print metal frames, to near-invisible rimless glasses. Preliminary checks are as they always are, but the lady I'd met at HEB was my guide for the day (Kelly). Dr Crothers was very timely, very professional, with good humor as well. I have a bit of a special pupil, and she took the time to ensure it behaved as she expected. She also switched me over to a different type of contact lens that better suit my usage. Kelly helped me get contacts ordered, then a couple weeks later I was back to pick out some new everyday frames. That was in December and January. I've since sent friends, and a random stranger I met on a plane. The atmosphere is great, the staff members are very professional and friendly, and as previously mentioned, they have no qualms about giving you a copy of your prescription if you wish. I just got back from my first visit to the Arbor Eye Center because I had lost my only pair of eyeglasses yesterday. I have to say I was extremely impressed. Points of awesomeness: 1) I called this morning for an appointment and they were able to see me within a couple hours. 2) The staff at the front of the office were very friendly and personable. 3) Dr. Crothers was incredibly thorough, friendly and just generally awesome. 4). They have a lab on site. Thankfully, they had my prescription in stock and I was able to walk away with a new pair the same day. I had a great experience with Arbor Eye Center. Callie & Tiffany made me feel welcome when I arrived and took care of my paperwork. We laughed a lot actually. Both the doctors, Ellen and Frank were kind and very thorough in my exam and fitting. My glasses arrived during SxSW and Preston called me and offered to bring my glasses downtown the next day so I could get them fitted. What a great service. I met him at the Starling trailer and he got me fitted and I could tell he really wanted to make sure I was content with my new progressive glasses since this was my first time getting them. I've been going here since they opened. Before this place I would choose a new optometrist every year,because most suck. I am kind of a leave me a lone, don't bother me type of person and I hate to be bothered by sales people. This is the only place I go to, because they respect me and my personality. They are not overbearing , they actually care about their business and I have no problem giving them my money. My entire family now goes here. I went to Arbor Eye Center because I was having irritation with my contacts, but I am very used to that after wearing them for over 15 years. Not only did they get me into more comfortable contacts, but I had been wearing a power that was too strong for my eyes, causing headaches etc. The Drs at Arbor Eye Center got everything worked out, my prescription adjusted properly, and the staff was wonderful and made the appt run seamlessly and efficiently. Minho helped me in adjusting my glasses frames and assisted me in finding a new pair that would fit my face shape better, and was very knowledgeable about any questions I had. Well i was searching yelp one morning after i slept in my contacts for too long and found this place. my fiance called that morning for me and got me an appointment that same day. when i got there the staff was very helpful and nice and got me right in, matter of minutes. then the doc came in checked out my dumb mistake and gave me some eye drops and fixed me up in a few days. had the follow up appointment a week later to get my vision checked and fitted for new contacts. perfect prescription and now i can see again. overall great staff, great doctor, great environment and very nice and clean. i would rec. anyone to go there and now my entire shop will be going there for their future eye problems. read more

From my first interaction with Callie, who helped make my appointment over the phone, all the way to the end of my appointment, the customer service I received was top notch. Everyone that I came in contact with was friendly, attentive and helpful. Smiles all around. Dr. Novack took special care to explain things and to answer my questions. She was also very patient when my eyes "wouldn't cooperate" during the exam. She is fantastic! I wish I could remember the lab tech's name because he was pretty awesome too. I was way overdue for an eye doctor visit (like 10 years overdue) and finally made an appointment with Arbor Eye Center since they are located in the same shopping center where I work. I was blown away by their professionalism from the second I walked in, and by their clean, newly remodeled facility. Arbor Eye Center is amazing. I'm so glad I found them. I'd successfully avoided the eye doctor for over 15 years. Eye care scares me and gives me severe anxiety. It's embarrassing but real. I left Arbor Eye Center today excited about my next appointment, something I never thought possible. AEC is incredible for a couple of standout reasons. 1. Their staff is kind and attentive and was very patient and understanding about my anxiety. They listened to my concerns and tailored my appointment and their time with me to minimize my stress. Michelle Swanson went above and beyond during my initial imaging and after, helping me pick out glasses. She was so nice to me and I'll be forever appreciative of her help and kindness. She made all the difference in easing my anxiety. 2. Granted, it's been 15 years but AEC's technology blew me away. I am incredibility appreciative of the option to avoid pupil dilation and opt into eye imaging instead. This alone made my visit easier for me. 3. Dr. Crothers was skilled, thorough and kind. She addressed every concern I had and treated me kindly and professionally. I am glad to invest in continued eye care with her. This is a family business, Doctor and optician are married and their staff have worked for them for years, which tells me they're kind to their staff too! Doc as Dr. Crothers is called by her staff is wonderful, sweet and very knowledgeable. She has been treating my daughter and is wonderful to her, I won't go anywhere else! The office is clean, clean, clean, decorated with a modern look, very inviting. They even have a cute little kid play area. I haven't been to see Ellen Crothers in a few years because I moved, but since then I have had trouble finding a good eye Dr. so I wanted to write a review. I wear RGP (hard) contact lenses due to my astigmatism and they can be difficult to get the right prescription. I saw Ellen for a few years and each time I went in she got my prescription right the first time. I didn't realize how good I had it until I had to find a new eye doctor. I've been to a new doctor and it's taken almost a month to find the right prescription for me. Really frustrating. Next time, I'll just drive back to Austin to go see her cause she is hands down THE BEST in town. read more
