**Updated Review** I have been a patient here for many years back when it was Lone Star Eye, but since the transition to MyEyeDr., the service has completely plummeted. I had my annual eye exam here on July 9 and placed my contact lens order right there in the office. During that visit, I explicitly told the staff that I needed these lenses before an upcoming business trip. It has now been nearly three weeks, and my order was completely lost in transit. What makes this unacceptable is that nobody bothered to notify me. I only found out after repeatedly calling the office myself to chase down updates. They appear to only have one or two people staffed at the front desk, which is clearly causing a massive administrative bottleneck. I do not know if the issue is a lack of training or a total breakdown in their new corporate systems, but leaving a long-term patient stranded without vital corrective lenses right before a work trip is a massive failure. If you value communication, reliable ordering, and basic customer service, look elsewhere in Austin. The current management is dropping the ball. read more

I'm extremely disappointed in my experience at Lone Star Eye. The star is for the desk person Grant who has genuinely been trying to help me, but who keeps running into rigid policies and lack of customer care at the company. In short, there have been multiple errors over many months, and I am not seeing LSE own and correct these errors in a reasonable way. I see from other reviews that errors and money grabs are a common theme here. (1) We discussed a specific contact lens Rx in the office, and then the wrong contacts lenses were ordered. When I attempted to reorder, it took months and multiple calls to receive the correct lenses. (2) When I went to fill my glasses Rx, I realized it was the wrong Rx. I called them to correct it, and they said since 60 days had passed, I would need to come back in and pay another $75. I was never even handed a copy of the Rx at the appointment, otherwise I would have realized the error on the spot, and we could have fixed it. They attempted to fix it by putting a random "Add" on the glasses, but I don't use reading glasses. I have asked them to own and correct this error, but they have dug in their heels on charging me another $75. I can't get a new - and correct - Rx for that elsewhere. Thankfully I noticed the error, and then the second error with the Add, or I would have been out hundreds of dollars on glasses I couldn't use. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Packer at Lone Star Eye for 8 years. The care and service is excellent and affordable. For a full doctor visit including contact and glasses prescription, it costs me $89. The appointment has always been on time, the staff initially accesses eye changes and takes pictures of the inside of your eyes using various machines instead of dilation. Then the doctor goes over the results and checks your vision and discusses any changes. The staff is always very professional and easy to reach via texting. I have also ordered contacts with them directly because they have access to a large rebate if a years supply is ordered. Lots of parking. Very clean facility read more

Dr. Casey Packer misdiagnosed my son when my son was 4.5 years old. He said that my son's issue with his eyes would resolve itself. A year later, I went to another specialist (far more thorough) who referred my son to another specialist and diagnosed an eye issue with eye drifting up and down and side to side. And my son needed glasses for his 20/100 vision. I would never recommend this doctor for any one at any age after this experience. read more

Firstly, I found Dr. Parker's ability to write a competent prescription to be lacking. After following his recommendations, I experienced significant discomfort and blurred vision, prompting me to seek a second opinion. This not only caused me inconvenience but also affected my daily activities. Additionally, I was taken aback by Dr. Parker's demeanor when I attempted to provide feedback about my experience. Instead of engaging in a constructive dialogue, he dismissed my concerns with a condescending and arrogant tone. I went to his office to speak to him, and the staff hid him and made him unavailable. Patient feedback is crucial for improvement, and his reaction was disappointing and unprofessional. I hope you take these concerns seriously. They reflect not only on Dr. Parker but also on Lone Star Eye's overall reputation. If you are a busy professional who does not have time to waste, this is surely a place to waste it. I purchased no less than four pairs of Tom Ford glasses over the years there, but the contacts have always been a problem. Never once has the prescription been accurate on contacts, and they have always caused me problems. The other doctor I saw was even more full of himself than my first doctor. They did not even start my order and when I called the lady "forgot" and "didn't have anything down for me" even though I spent like an hour sitting with her to get the frames I chose. I am so glad that I discovered Lone Star Eye. My search for the best optometrist in Austin is over. The facility and staff are truly outstanding. It's obvious that they care a lot and went above and beyond to help me. Dr. Chelsea Wahl was delightful. She answered all of my questions and gave me the most detailed consultation I've ever received anywhere. She even took the time to advise me on picking out some very stylish new frames. Even though it was the first time we'd ever met, I felt like I was being treated like a friend. I came away with a lot more knowledge about my eyes (and their future). Neal was instrumental in helping me pick out some new frames and lenses. I was also trying to get some new lenses put in my favorite old frames. Unfortunately the frames snapped at the lab when the technician was testing to put in the new lenses. I had signed a waiver acknowledging I knew this was a possibility and that the frames could be destroyed (they were well-worn). Neal reached out to me and offered to locate a new set of frames (a somewhat obscure handmade frame from Pasadena CA) and replace them free of charge! Needless to say: I am over the moon. They didn't have to do this, and they did it out of kindness and concern for me. To conclude my review I'd like to add a note about covid safety at Lone Star Eye. It's obvious they take the pandemic very seriously and take extra precautions to keep their customers safe. They strictly limit the number of people coming into the building. If you don't need to go inside, text them & the techs will meet you outside with your new contacts or glasses. From the front office staff, to the tech who does the preliminary eye tests before seeing the Dr., to the Dr. and the optician or tech that assists with glasses....they are all very friendly and helpful. Very nice, good sized selection of eyeglass frames ranging from a few basic frames to designer brands. They have a quick turnaround on glasses, compared to others, and this is much appreciated. They are closed on Fridays. Boo. But that's minor. I've been going for over 2 years now and seeing Dr. Packer. He is kind, friendly and competent. Went today for an initial lasik consultation, was extremely impressed with both the facility and staff. From the moment I walked in until my departure the experience was outstanding. Wow...why in the world would I want to write a review on getting new eye exam and glasses?? Well, when it's a awesome as Lone Star Eye was to me then how can I not?? Making the appointment was nice. Easy. They even have live people that will speak to you. I made the appointment with Zalyssa. Had the nicest chat and appointment made. She confirmed my new insurances for me. This made me happy to go in and see the optometrist. Dr. Parker was my Optometrist. After I checked in I moved to the waiting room. Their whole offices are new, and upscale with modern comfort. Christi came around , called my name and greeted me with genuine smile. She took me just around the corner to a row of machines and "thing-a-ma-gigs". I asked her which one was that horrible blow air in your eye, and she said, "Oh we don't do that anymore". I. sat in a rolling chair and rolled down one test/machine/video game after another. I called it the "Testing Buffet". No eye dilating. I didn't feel like I was being pushed along. In the HUGE exam room Dr. Parker came in. Fully masked of course, and yet through his eyes there was smiling. He was already knowledgeable abut my specific insurances. The conversation was easy. The eye chart and comparing things was short and so easy. He was engaging. Was not aloof. Genuine. I was and remain impressed. In being careful of costs, I brought in some old frames I used to wear and asked about better to reuse these vs. new frames. He never said 'No" . He did say that we can look at everything and whatever I decided they would make it work! It was really about what I wanted and not pushing things on me. The exam process was maybe 15 min long. I chatted longer and he was not in any hurry. In another section of the store I met the most awesome person named Rachel. As we used to say...and will full respect and honor she really was a "groovy chick". She listened to my tastes, and dislikes. We both walked through the gallery of frames and I chose a couple of frames...she chose 14. We then sat down and I made three piles...Yes, Maybe, No Way. And low and behold we were down to two fabulous choices and together we looked at pro's and cons. The check out was easy. Insurances were amazing. And within 5 days I got the text that my glasses were ready. And I LOVE them!! Shadazia assisted me in the return, verified things quickly, and I sat down for Rachel. She tightened, and did little things to make them fit right. Final word...I hope Dr. Parker, and his office has a "former patient to the front " program. I know one day soon he will be "full". And I hope with the great success they will have former patients won't have to wait 3-6 months for an exam. If that is the case...I WILL gladly wait...I can't imagine any place better than this. I was first diagnosed in 2015 with keratoconus, and had a few negative experiences at other clinics in between that struggled to solve some issues with lenses and more. Not only did Dr. Wahl and her team meet my needs, they exceeded all expectations; my vision has actually improved since entrusting her with my eye care three years ago. She communicates clearly, walks you through various options, and gets your buy-in on the plan of action. She absolutely looks out for her patients, and provides excellent follow-up and follow-through. The entire staff, without exception, is friendly and helpful, and everyone brings a lot of positive energy as well. Sadly, I am no longer a patient because our family relocated out of state to be near our families in California. I asked for new glasses since I lost mine. They called me to let me know they were in. I drove out there which is a one hour round trip for me just to tell me the frames werent in yet, and they will call me when ready. I called a few days later since there was no follow up. The receptionist was nice and said they would text or call me back later that day. Zero follow up. I called in again the next day to be told the frames were on back order for two weeks. Two weeks go by and zero follow up. I call in to find out the frames were there and the glasses were ready to pick up. I took the one hour round trip to pick them up only to find out the lenses didnt fit in the frames. They didnt call me before coming out to let me know of this error to save me a trip. They apologized and I asked for the compensation of my time, and they offered to ship them to me. That should have been a given, but it's all they offered me. I asked for a call back to ensure they would be shipped and received by this Friday. I have not received a call to let me know this was on schedule. Zero Follow Up. Zero Stars. I cant imagine doing business here ever again. Really disappointing. read more

Still the best. Why waste words? I come here every January to update my glasses & contact prescriptions, and then Dr Packer & I talk about the newest restaurants in town. What more do I want? What's different this year is they moved to a bigger & better location, there's a cool coffeehouse on one end of this complex and a great steakhouse on the other, and if I'm driving down to Southwest Parkway for whatever, I'll make an afternoon of it. They didn't like the "vision insurance" company I have this year, but with my regular medical it was a $40 copay, and I pay an extra $40 for the optional digital dilater. I like the tech. To each his own. This year Dr Packer gave me a sample of new contacts that don't require reading glasses, but I haven't tried them yet, I'm going through a Warby Parker phase at the moment. I did try Carve at his recommendation, and that was great, and I need to write it up. And that's about it. See you next year. No really - see you, like literally. read more

A huge thank you to Errol M. for recommending Lone Star Eye and now I too will be highly recommending them as well. I originally came here for a pricey procedure. This procedure is one I was originally told I needed by another clinic. While I may still need that procedure at some point, after some testing, Dr. Packer and Dr. Wahl felt it best to try some other less invasive options first. I was blown away at their integrity and what I feel is a genuine commitment to patient care and positive patient outcomes. They aren't in this to make a quick buck, they are in doing what is best for the patient, big picture, and that is all I could ask for and is what will keep me as a loyal patient. In November of 2024, I took my prescription info to Lone Star Eye and had a pair of lenses made for my Ray Ban glasses. Upon receipt of the glasses, they seemed okay and my vision was clear. My eyes were struggling a bit, but I thought maybe they would adjust after a period of time. After about two hours of wearing the glasses, I had a terrible headache and it was obvious there was a problem with the lenses. I have five pairs of glasses that were made from different optometrists using the same prescription, and none of them cause this eye/head pain. In January, I took the glasses back to Lone Star Eye and explained the problem. The woman I spoke with took the glasses into the back, along with a pair of glasses that I was wearing, and the prescription information. She apparently had them tested in a machine and determined that the glasses I was wearing (which are perfect for my eyes and don't give me a headache) were the wrong prescription somehow. She also said that my eyes must have changed since my last eye exam, and the lenses they made for me matched the prescription perfectly. That means all five pairs of glasses that I have from other optometrists were made incorrectly, and the lenses made by Lone Star Eye that give me a blazing headache are the only ones made properly. They did not offer to refund my money. I guess I am simply out $330.00. Live and learn, I guess. read more

From start to finish my experience was great. My son got the cutest rayban frames and he gets compliments everywhere we go. He's 6 and this was his first optometrist visit and it was well with the almost hour drive from Cedar Park. He was comfortable the entire tome. Take your feedback as a template, here is my reply. Unfortunately, your feedback was misrepresenting in many ways. Let me explain. I don't like to waste time nagging criticism you, but people can never stand on other feet unless they are the one who suffers. It is unfair to a person who suffer from your false for months, write down the reality as true as she could, but ending up being described as a miser who care about money over the quality like you said "given that price is the true factor in your decision making" 1) Your statement: "The 3D effect you are referring is common with patients who have higher prescriptions but chose not to elect for thinner lenses (think coke bottle glasses reference)." My answer: "No, this is not my case. The "3D effect"--distortion I suffer from past months is from the mis-place of the lenses. The reason I said that is because the distortion goes away soon after the left and right were swap back. You can check (or 'reviewed security footage' if you prefer) with the 2 ladies who welcomed me the third time of my visit: didn't I told them the "3D" effect go away immediately after the swap the lenses?! Didn't I tell them the screen become flat immediately after the swap?! The thickness of lenses are the EXACTLY THE SAME(I don't think you will make it thinner in 20 mins, in the store. ) Answer why "3D effect"--distortion go away immediately given the SAME thickness? How can this 3D effect be fault of "have higher prescriptions"? At least not in my case. 2) Your statement: "The reason the "clearness area" was so small is also a product of the optics of a thick lens for higher prescription patients. We again advised you that this is the case but you chose not to take our recommendation for thinner lenses. These types of issues are why most patients with higher prescriptions wear contacts and not glasses." My answer: Small focal zones issue also disappear after the swap. You are a doctor, you know what the vision will be if you put the lenses edge(thick and unclear) in the vision center: this is because the left and right is wrong is my case, so the Thin and thick edges are also not right in my vision. which I know now is hard to demonstrate, but this is a true symptom I experience. (btw, this is my intension to check out 2 other eye centers to get a new prescription, because I thought the prescription is wrong as the clearness area shouldn't be that small. Thanks god I did.) 3) & 4) your statement: "And finally reflections are a common issue which is why anti-reflective coatings were developed for eyewear years ago ....You were never told "you need to spend more money". Please remove the quotes from this in your review because it is completely false. " My answer: No, I will not remove my statement because is correct: over the phone the lady said I need spend more money to add the anti-reflection and she told me it will be charge via the credit card. I said yes, let's do it. Let me even explain why I didn't add that option the first place: over the 10 years, I have had so many corrective glasses, I was never experienced any reflection before, because just like you said, this feature was a technique so "plain and simple", I guess all the glasses I bought has anti-reflection by default. So as a customer, I thought it was an industry common practice to have this. I don't know this is a feature that customer should have this as a "add-on", not by default, because I never need to add this feature myself before and they are all doing very good. So when you asked, I just thought: "hmm, why bother, they should be already really good, the feature you mentioned might just be same very fancy stuff, I might not even notice at all." so I say no the first time. But as soon as I notice how bad it is without anti-reflection, I choose to add that feature, isn't it. Your last statement: "We should have caught this error when verifying the glasses and we take full responsibility for that mistake." My answer: I agree. And shocked that new glasses didn't be checked before handed over to a customer???? So in closing, you could try to describe me as a miser image who care about money over the quality. That is because you are not the person who suffer from months of dizziness and frustration with tired eyes, looking at things "curved" every minus and have burning eyes after 30 mins. You cannot understand how I trust your staff and believe this should be normal with new glasses and told myself don't over-react. I love Dr Packer and his staff. Great customer service and I love the text message reminders. Dr Packer is honest and down to earth. He will tell you when something is not worth the money, which is always appreciated. I also had a scare where I suddenly could not see out of one eye, called the office in tears and they fit me in right away. Turns out it was an ocular migraine, which had never happened to me before so I was freaked out. Dr Packer took pictures of my eye and explained why it could not be diabetes, or any of the other scary things I had googled. I appreciate their level of care so much. My wife and I have been a customer for 4-5 years. The doctors and staff do good work. The tools are modern and convenient. This review would be much higher accept for a last incident. We spent an hour with our daughter looking for frames she would like. We found one out of all the frames that she really liked. We scheduled her eye appointment for the soonest opening (a week later). We asked if they could reserve the frames so that after her eye appointment we could just order lenses and be done. The staff said the would hold them. After her appointment they said they did not have the frames and that they were "discontinued". My daughter was really looking forward to these frames. And the staff was not the least bit apologetic. I expressed to them how upset I was that we wasted an hour diligently looking for that frame. No apology, no concern at all from the staff. I was quite surprised considering how good our past experiences were. I can no longer recommend Lone Star Eye after the upsetting experience. read more

Been a been a Patient at LS Eye since we moved to Austin in 2013. Up until now I've been very happy with them We were exposed to Covid-19 by accident at the facility in early February 2021. Instead of leaving a message to that effect, I received a cryptic, "Please call the office.", message on my voicemail. No follow-up to make certain we knew what the call was about. This was near the time of the storm in February and they did have issues with communication, but there was no follow-up afterwards. The only way I knew was that I called them back. My wife ended up in the hospital, likely due to this exposure as we have been maniacal about protection measures before that. Yes, I know this is not certain, but the timing is spot-on. No real apology from the office; no communications afterwards. Attempts to contact the office were met with indifference. We shall have to look elsewhere for our needs in the future. read more

I found this place through yelp and the reviews are totally justified. I had such a great experience and would recommend them to anyone that would listen. I'd been having issues with one of my eyes being very allergy prone and a little blurry on/off for years. Dr Packer downgraded my RX and changed my contacts brand (both that I've had for 10 + years mind you) and told me to trust him - it would be weird for a week but then I'd be able to see perfectly. Well it took almost 2 weeks (lol) but I've not had any issues AT ALL since my appt over 3 months ago and my husband is super pleased that I'm not whining about my itchy, blurry eye anymore. I am 29 and this was my first visit to an optometrist/eye appointment and I can say I'm incredibly pleased. Not only was the waiting room nice, they had coffee and water to enjoy. Unlike most Doctors, I did not have to wait longer than 5 minutes after my afternoon appointment time to be seen. The staff: The assistant (nurse equivalent) Marissa was very nice and thorough on what the visit would entail. She did all her prep work then sent the Dr. in. Dr. Casey Packer was just as nice and thorough. I didn't feel rushed like I do at the Dr and I was able to ask all the questions I wanted. He made sure the entire procedure was comfortable and offered to show pictures of what he was talking about so I would understand better. Awesome service. He was able to recognize my issue quickly and gave me a full exam even though my vision was pretty perfect. He didn't even bother to try to sell me on glasses as I didn't need them, which was nice. Price: I don't have insurance for this so I was able to find a Groupon for $49 for the exam and a glasses discount (which I didn't need) but I thought that was very affordable. The same exam was $120 cash price I believe. They didn't treat me any differently or act like I wasn't as important for using the Groupon, as I've seen in the past with other service places. They were upfront in the beginning about a machine that takes pictures of the back of the eye vs getting my eyes dilated costing $38, as it's an expensive machine. They let me choose whichever I wanted and explained the benefits of both. I thought it was nice to tell me up front then ask me in the exam room and put me on the spot without telling me the cost. Had the best visit here today! Everyone here was very impressive, seem very knowledgeable and inviting. Samira (Sam) was amazing at explaining what she was doing during my eye workup and delivered excellent client service. Dr Wahl was fantastic-- very informative, answered all my questions, and super personable. So I have been a patient for several years and like Dr. Packer but now I'm going to have to find another eye dr. My prescription expires in 2 days and I contacted them via text to get contacts for the summer as I was hoping to make my follow up in the fall. I was told they would not be able to as they can't use expired prescriptions. But it wasn't expired yet... So whatever I just asked for my prescription and they sent it to me. However info was missing on it and it had a comical "stamp" on it that says expired even though clearly on the prescription it says it doesn't expire for another two days. In fact when I tried to get contacts thru another source they looked at it and were like, yeah it's not expired so I was able to get them anyway. Super annoying when all I wanted was some contacts over the summer and was planning to go in during the fall when I was less busy. Seemed manipulative. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Lone Star Eye yet. I tried them out around 2 years ago after reading all the good reviews - and the high ratings are warranted. Dr. Packer is thorough, friendly, and down-to-earth ("Casey"). He never talks down to me and never rushes. He listens carefully and readily answers my questions. He actually seems to appreciate questions. (How many medical professionals do that?!) I trust him. He found a torn retina that another eye doc missed - and referred me to a fantastic retina specialist for the surgery. The office seems to have all the latest equipment. I like that they seem to stay abreast of new technologies. The technicians and office staff are also great! read more
