I won't come back!!! You shouldn't go there too!!! They took 2 months to get my prescription glasses done right. All December 2022 and all January 2023. Then, after a few months when I'm trying to get my eyes checked (after a stroke) and while getting ready to have my appointment they got cheap and got upset cause I got one of the tiny alcohol pads to clean my phone. Like really, such pitty??? Why a good excuse to get patients out and not coming back. The worst part is that was Dr. questioning me for getting one (1) tiny alcohol prep pad to clean my chin. When they have a whole box out there for display. If they are not for the public then put them behind the counter. And non the less, if a client of yours that you have seen for years ask and gets one don't be greedy and tell me not to get one because during Covid people used to blah blah blah. No excuses for such rudeness from the doctor directly!!! Excellent Doctor, but horrible office policies. I've been going to Dr Tybor for 12 years, as well as my wife and kids. Always been a super professional place for regular eye checkups. I called for an "eye-mergency" (nothing remotely 911-worthy, just wanted an opinion from my regular eye doc) appointment. They "can't see me without a referral", even though i repeatedly prefaced I could self-pay, without insurance, whatever it takes to just get any professional to look at my eye. Called my insurance, who stated "you can self-direct your care to a specialist, just be aware of the charges..." So, I'm not sure who's at fault, but it's not exactly ethical to refuse treatment. And as an established patient, it's pretty disappointing. read more

But I've never encountered such a mix of care, warmth, and efficiency as I did at Oak Hill Eye Care. In less than 40 minutes, I processed new patient paperwork, had an eye exam, had a contact fitting (for new and better lenses), and left my favorite frames to get updated lenses. At each step along the way, a smiling interested person met me, listened well, and found solutions to my needs. It was astonishing to be met with such attentiveness. Oak Hill Eye Care used to be run by David Tybor. Now that it has been taken over by his son, John, everything has gone downhill. The employee turn-over is so frequent that you cannot get any acceptable level of service. At my first (and only) appointment I was left in the waiting room for almost an hour after I checked in, because the staff "forgot about me." I was then rushed through my appointment (with Stephanie) and given samples for lenses that I had previously tired and did not like. Stephanie refused to give me samples of the brand of lenses I had been wearing for the last several years and wanted to continue to wear. This led to numerous calls and attempts to get a prescription of the lenses I wanted, but to no avail. Not only did I pay for a contact lens exam without receiving a prescription for lenses that I could wear, but Oak Hill Eye Care also STOLE $300 of my insurance benefits. My insurance paid them, but I never received any contact lenses. Several members of the staff admitted there were a lot of errors made, citing large staff turnover and offering many apologies. John Tybor also offered to refund me for my exam, and try to resolve the issues. BUT, then he changed his mind, sending me a nasty email accusing me of "hateful, demoralizing speech." I do not know how John came to this determination, since he is now ignoring my calls. I can only guess that Brie told John that I informed her that I was not willing to work with Nicole, due to her inability to answer simple questions about contact lens prices, and her failure to return my call as promised regarding sample lenses. This was apparently determined by John to be "hateful, demoralizing speech," and somehow made him feel entitled to charge me for a contact lens prescription I never received, take insurance money for contact lenses I was not provided, and to ignore my phone calls/messages (which Brandy confirmed she gave him) to resolve this situation. John also accused me of making "a direct insult to a team member's intelligence" which is false, as I never said anything to Nicole. I was polite and courteous to Nicole, while she struggled to answer simple questions. And the feedback I gave to Brie, regarding Nicole, was accurate, and should have been taken as a sign to improve training, rather than to attack the customer. All of the positive reviews are based on David's running of the business. Now that John is in charge, this is 100% a place to avoid! I would anticipate all 1 star reviews going forward. Save yourself the time, hassle, and theft, and go anywhere else but here! read more

Jackie is Dr. Smith's assistant. She makes your appointment move quickly while still being efficient and professional. I absolutely love how Dr. Smith uses new technology for my examination. When I left I felt confident that I was in good hands. Her recommendations for my new contacts were so helpful. I tend to be forgetful and sleep in em'. I know it's so bad for your eyes but she made me feel comfortable enough to admit it. Lynda my optician knew exactly what I was looking for when I pointed at one pair of glasses. She knows what looks good too and isn't shy to make recommendations. You will walk out with everything you want and need. I can't believe it's already been three years since I last had my eyes checked. Bad Jensy... However, I am in the middle of having all my annual check ups. My first visit to Dr. Tybor was very pleasant. There was no hesitation for me to go back to see him again, rather than Texan Eye Care. My insurance isn't that awesome, but most vision insurance plans are similar. I arrived at 8.30am and was out the door at 9.30am. The exam was very comprehensive and I opted to have the retinal scan for $28 rather than having my eyes dilated. I knew this was not going to be covered since I read and signed the waiver prior to my examination. An assistant came out and took me through all the tests and did my actual eye exam. I know this is standard procedures these days. I do miss the actual doc doing this as it was in the old days, but it doesn't mean that the job wasn't done correctly. A small irritant was that after the eye test, it was a little over 15 mins before Dr. Tybor came in to see me. However, that quickly faded when he arrived. He has a wonderful bed side manner so to speak. Very friendly, talkative and went through the test's with me. He is personable as we talked about our families and went about the remaining questions of my vision. My vision was actually slightly better than the last time I was in. Which meant I didn't have to purchase new glasses. AND, he didn't give me a big sell that I should. We talked about prescription sunglasses and he provided me with a script. Shared some thoughts on what type of tint I should consider. He wished me the best and I went out to pay. My bill was $63, which $28 was an option I requested. So pretty good value. When I was waiting to check out, one of the assistants remembered me from my past visit and noticed I was looking at my glasses and he offered to clean them for me. That was very thoughtful and unexpected. It means to me that they all do care about who is in their shop. I'm a fan and will continue to use his services. read more

Let me pre-face there's first. I am too successful businesses and we deal with customers every had an absolutely horrible experience! I had scheduled an appointment with Dr.Lechlitner an annual eye exam. Instead of her actually doing the exam as expected they had an intern do it and he got my prescription totally wrong. I ordered a pair of sunglasses based upon the prescription and when they came in I was puzzled but the sales person was so pushy and insisted that that was the right prescription. A few days later I tried to drive with them and I could not even see my speedometer on my vehicle. So I took them back and the same sales person waffles when I ask him for a refund. So I went back in to get a refund and get an eye exam by the doctor with Dr.Lechlitner. Rather than do the exam she just came in with the sunglasses telling me it was my fault and not the prescription. It was obvious that she didn't want to refund the money for a bad exam and incorrect sunglasses. In a nutshell just not honest. read more

I'm picky about my glasses, and was new to Austin. The glasses I was replacing when I went to so Dr Tybor were the best I have had in my (long) life. I told Dr Tybor that, and he said "I'm going to make you a pair of glasses that you like better". The glasses are very good. My sight is crystal clear. The "sweet spot" for the progressive lenses is perfect. It has been several months now, and I don't have a single scratch. I always get the scratch resistance, but still I usually have a scratch by now. Dr Tybor did what he said he was going to do, and made me a better pair of glasses. I saw Dr. Lechlitner for my annual eye exam. Prior to seeing her, an intern reviewed the photo of my eyeball that they take instead of dilating your eyes these days. It costs $34 extra or so, but I'd pay double or triple that to avoid dilation. Anyway, the intern noticed a spot on my eye and we needed to check it out. Dr. Lechlitner received the same photo from a few years back and verified that all was well. I was well-impressed with the office; the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Dr. L is a very good communicator and didn't pull any punches when describing what that spot MIGHT HAVE BEEN. Whew. I highly recommend this office and Dr. Lechlitner. read more

This place is horrible if you want to get your glasses adjusted, I just bought a brand new pair of frames and took them here to get them adjusted. The next day they were still slipping so I went to another place on my way home from work, and the nice lady at the other place showed me they had a huge crack in them along the side. This was not there before I took them to Oak hill Eye Care and I have done nothing with them to result in a crack. This location they literally broke my new frames. I can't even begin to describe how terrible it is to break some ones new frames. Now I have to get a new pair from the manufacturer. If you don't want broken glasses, and especially if you aren't insured. I highly suggest going to another eye shop even if you bought your frames at Oak Hill Eye Care. So glad they are a distributor for Silhouette glasses. I chose this place because the husband had a good experience here and thought I'd give them a try myself. I was only in the frames department, so that's what my review will be about. I met a sweet woman who was endlessly helpful with making my purchase. She doesn't push anything on you, and offers the kind of help each patient needs. I'm not one who prefers the tech to give me opinion on glasses usually. So, I went through the different kinds of Silhouettes offered now (my first pair there was only one general style, now like 5!). She explained the differences and benefits. It was such an eye opener. I then went through and picked the additions to my lenses, which btw, I've never been a fan of and find myself gleeful with anti glare and blue filter benefits!! Picking them up was an exciting day. I'd been without mine for a month by then, these are pricey and as I'd finally broken mine, i had to wait to purchase another pair. It was such a joy to put them on. I'm an artist and these are my work glasses, such a pleasure to wear. Like a feather and they stay put on the bridge of your nose. Love them. I also found out that depending on how they break, they can be repaired! The woman told me this and I was almost in shock! My last place was horrible and actually lied to me about this. No doubt to get more $$, these aren't cheap by a stretch. So, I'm taking in my other pair to see what can be done. (To clarify, it's a replacement fix of pieces broken, not repair of lens or the metal pieces themselves. And customer pays for replacement and repair if outside 2 year warranty window). Oakhill was such a pleasure to work with. They are patient, kind and make buying frames easy. I highly recommend this department. I'd be back in a heart beat. read more

My wife and I have been to Oak Hill Eye Care for annual exams for the past few years, but this year. only a new (to us) doctor, Dr. David Tybor, had back-to-back exams available within the next few weeks that would fit into our schedules. And, I have to say, we were both delighted with our visit! The Oak Hill support staff took us through all of the initial exams at half a dozen specialized vision analysis stations, and provided helpful insight at each to increase our comfort as we worked through the examination process. Then, we met Dr. Tybor. It turned out that we both need advanced care. He referred us to different specialists for the type corrective procedures we each needed. He took the time to show us the results the exams we had just completed to make sure that we were knowledgeable about the procedures he was recommending. He was particularly focused on helping us understood our options during the advanced care, and the value of each option. We found him to be very personable and considerate, while professional on all levels. His attentiveness created a level of trust beyond what we expected. We particularly appreciated the time he spent with us making sure that we were comfortable with the options available to us, and that we could make informed decisions. I almost never write reviews but I absolutely had to write one for this place and Dr. John Tybor. My husband injured his eye when he was working out and a workout band broke and snapped back into one of his eyes. I quickly searched for emergency eye care in the area and Dr. Tybor worked us in within hours. My husband couldn't even open his eyes and within minutes of seeing Dr. Tybor, he numbed his eye, assessed the corneal abrasions he had, put a protective contact lens on it and my husband could open his eyes with almost no pain. My husband had abrasions that affected 45% of his cornea on 1 eye. We let Dr. Tybor know that we had a plane trip planned in 1 week and so he worked us in to see my husband almost every day until we left to ensure he was healing properly, asses if we needed to change the prescription eye drops, change to an eye patch, etc. He even offered to meet us at the office after hours if the pain became worse or we had a concern. I've never been so impressed or comforted by any medical professional as I was with Dr. Tybor and his staff. Needless to say, my husband's eye is completely healed and we were able to make our trip with 1 week of the injury. We are recommending this office to anyone needing any kind of eye care from now on. I must preface this review by saying that I have a lot of anxiety about going to the optometrist. It bothers me to have my eyes messed with and previous doctors did not explain what they were doing & why. At every previous eye clinic, I had had a panic attack during the exam. Needless to say, I was apprehensive about finding an optometrist. I called several places before choosing Oak Hill. My initial impression on the phone sold me. The receptionist was kind, warm and friendly. Once there, I was promptly seen. Much of the exam was preformed by the techs, which was fine. They have the newest technologies and the exam was comfortable. No puff of air in my eye, no dilation drops. It all went quickly and I never was kept waiting long enough to build any anxiety about being there. Dr. L herself is a gem. She was friendly and seemed interested in getting to know me during the rest of my exam. Afterwards, she discussed everything with me in detail about my eye health and my new eyeglass prescription. She definitely has the bedside manner that my previous optometrists lacked. I left Oak Hill feeling genuinely excited. I have never had such an easy eye exam. I had not had my eyes examined in a number of years. My current employer was dropping our eye care so I thought I should get them check. I called and made an appointment within the week. The lobby is bright and clean. They called me back right on time. The equipment was all first class. The exam appeared to be very thorough. Dr. Walsh was friendly and able to answer all my questions. I haven't seen an eye dr. in 11 years (yipes!) since having LASIK surgery. I was dreading going to the eye dr., but I had been experiencing headaches and eye straining issues. I chose this eye doctor since my VSP insurance covered this office. I'd tried making an eye appt. with another eye dr. (also on William Cannon) but had such difficulty getting an appointment. I was more than pleased with my visit to Oak Hill Eye Care (despite the need for reading glasses. Boo.) I can't recommend this office enough. They offered taking pictures of your eyes without dilation (for $28), which was a nice option. I saw Dr. Lacey Smith, who was personable and knowledgeable. I then had the help of Lynda in choosing lenses that would look good and not break the bank. I will no longer dread this yearly appointment! read more

ALERT current and future patients considering contact lenses at Oak Hill Eye Care. Read the and Request their hard copy of their OAK HILL EYE CARE ANNUAL CONTRACT LENS AGREEMENT form, because you will need it later for clarification toward refunds and errors on their doctors and staffs explanations on refunds. Why? because both the Doctor and Interns continue to repeat; "if you do not like the fit of your new made to order scleral lens; these lens have a 1 year return guarantee". NOT TRUE. This May 2021; upon scheduling my appointment for a new prescription, I was first examined by one of the interns; which highly recommended the new Scleral Lens (hard lens) instead of my previous soft daily lens. She continued to praise the benefits of the vision and fit of these lens. After about 45 minutes; Dr. Lechlitner came in again to validate the lens benefits. Weeks later my new lens arrived for proper adjustments; and I was told to wear for 2 weeks and report/schedule again to adjust. Meanwhile during the months of May, June and July - I returned 3 times; because each time my eyes had this red blood shot ring around my eyes; causing a suction irritation upon removal - - more adjustments; more new contacts; etc. Yet, during these exams; again the intern comes in to review the cleaning process; etc...to note it might be my lack of cleaning causing the irritation; then Dr. Lechiltner arrives to finalize the exam and new fitting. She is very nice, but continued to state; if this fit doesn't work; you can return them for the full refund; "because the lens have a one year guarantee". NOPE; the lens did not because, OAK HILL EYE CARE ANNUAL CONTRACT LENS AGREEMENT supersedes the vendor of the Scleral Lens. In summary; I paid $1,042.00 for these lens which did not fit my eyes; after 3 different fittings from May 14 - July 21st; I returned the lens and requested a refund. An intern examined my eyes again, then Dr. Lechlitner came in to do the same; this time with samples of (soft lens) options; which were the same style I wear previously for years....and she gave me a new contact lens prescription. She nicely walked me to their bookkeepers counter for processing the refund. At no time; did anyone alert me on the "so called issue regarding - Oops you should have returned the lens with the 30-days; which is noted in the OAKHILL EYE CARE ANNUAL CONTRACT LENS AGREEMENT". In conclusion; a refund was processed, but for only half of the original cost - - because the bookkeeper said; "I'm sorry, but reading Dr. Lechlitner's notes for your account I don't read anything about the 1 year return refund guarantee." Too bad; I'm unable to post a picture of my blood shot eyes, which I took each time an adjustment was made............. Too bad; I should have stayed with my old soft lens option instead of their NEW Scleral lens...... FYI - I took the prescription to COSTCO and ordered new soft lens now; and my vision is back to normal. LESSON LEARNED FOR ME! read more
