I am so glad that I discovered Lone Star Eye. My search for the best optometrist in Austin is over. The facility and staff are truly outstanding. It's obvious that they care a lot and went above and beyond to help me. Dr. Chelsea Wahl was delightful. She answered all of my questions and gave me the most detailed consultation I've ever received anywhere. She even took the time to advise me on picking out some very stylish new frames. Even though it was the first time we'd ever met, I felt like I was being treated like a friend. I came away with a lot more knowledge about my eyes (and their future). Neal was instrumental in helping me pick out some new frames and lenses. I was also trying to get some new lenses put in my favorite old frames. Unfortunately the frames snapped at the lab when the technician was testing to put in the new lenses. I had signed a waiver acknowledging I knew this was a possibility and that the frames could be destroyed (they were well-worn). Neal reached out to me and offered to locate a new set of frames (a somewhat obscure handmade frame from Pasadena CA) and replace them free of charge! Needless to say: I am over the moon. They didn't have to do this, and they did it out of kindness and concern for me. To conclude my review I'd like to add a note about covid safety at Lone Star Eye. It's obvious they take the pandemic very seriously and take extra precautions to keep their customers safe. They strictly limit the number of people coming into the building. If you don't need to go inside, text them & the techs will meet you outside with your new contacts or glasses. I honestly think they don't allow more than one customer inside their luxurious and large facility at a time. I really appreciate their efforts to keep the community safe and healthy. Superior service!

My new glasses!!! Dr. Parker and staff are truly the BEST!!

Wow...why in the world would I want to write a review on getting new eye exam and glasses?? Well, when it's a awesome as Lone Star Eye was to me then how can I not?? Making the appointment was nice. Easy. They even have live people that will speak to you. I made the appointment with Zalyssa. Had the nicest chat and appointment made. She confirmed my new insurances for me. This made me happy to go in and see the optometrist. Dr. Parker was my Optometrist. After I checked in I moved to the waiting room. Their whole offices are new, and upscale with modern comfort. Christi came around , called my name and greeted me with genuine smile. She took me just around the corner to a row of machines and "thing-a-ma-gigs". I asked her which one was that horrible blow air in your eye, and she said, "Oh we don't do that anymore". I. sat in a rolling chair and rolled down one test/machine/video game after another. I called it the "Testing Buffet". No eye dilating. I didn't feel like I was being pushed along. In the HUGE exam room Dr. Parker came in. Fully masked of course, and yet through his eyes there was smiling. He was already knowledgeable abut my specific insurances. The conversation was easy. The eye chart and comparing things was short and so easy. He was engaging. Was not aloof. Genuine. I was and remain impressed. In being careful of costs, I brought in some old frames I used to wear and asked about better to reuse these vs. new frames. He never said 'No" . He did say that we can look at everything and whatever I decided they would make it work! It was really about what I wanted and not pushing things on me. The exam process was maybe 15 min long. I chatted longer and he was not in any hurry. In another section of the store I met the most awesome person named Rachel. As we used to say...and will full respect and honor she really was a "groovy chick". She listened to my tastes, and dislikes. We both walked through the gallery of frames and I chose a couple of frames...she chose 14. We then sat down and I made three piles...Yes, Maybe, No Way. And low and behold we were down to two fabulous choices and together we looked at pro's and cons. The check out was easy. Insurances were amazing. And within 5 days I got the text that my glasses were ready. And I LOVE them!! Shadazia assisted me in the return, verified things quickly, and I sat down for Rachel. She tightened, and did little things to make them fit right. Final word...I hope Dr. Parker, and his office has a "former patient to the front " program. I know one day soon he will be "full". And I hope with the great success they will have former patients won't have to wait 3-6 months for an exam. If that is the case...I WILL gladly wait...I can't imagine any place better than this. It was AMAZING!!!! Did I tell you I LOVE my new glasses!!!!

This place has 130 five star reviews out of 132? Pretty impressive. I guess I'm the 131st good review. Nintendo while you're waiting.

Still the best. Why waste words? I come here every January to update my glasses & contact prescriptions, and then Dr Packer & I talk about the newest restaurants in town. What more do I want? What's different this year is they moved to a bigger & better location, there's a cool coffeehouse on one end of this complex and a great steakhouse on the other, and if I'm driving down to Southwest Parkway for whatever, I'll make an afternoon of it. They didn't like the "vision insurance" company I have this year, but with my regular medical it was a $40 copay, and I pay an extra $40 for the optional digital dilater. I like the tech. To each his own. This year Dr Packer gave me a sample of new contacts that don't require reading glasses, but I haven't tried them yet, I'm going through a Warby Parker phase at the moment. I did try Carve at his recommendation, and that was great, and I need to write it up. And that's about it. See you next year. No really - see you, like literally.

$268.00 for a contact lens exam…read more That is not a medical bill. That is a ransom note written in optometry ink. Two hundred and sixty-five dollars to look into my skull windows and tell me what shape of plastic disc belongs on my eyeballs. I did not walk into your office expecting a luxury spa treatment for my corneas. I expected a routine contact lens exam -- the same basic exercise I have had before, including through this same business, at roughly a quarter of the price. So when the bill came back at $268, I had the distinct feeling of being mugged in broad daylight by a phoropter. If this exam was going to cost $268, that number should have been made clear before the appointment began. Not whispered through paperwork. Not hidden in a fog of billing codes. Not revealed at the end like the final twist in a bad carnival scam. It should have been stated plainly, directly, and unmistakably: "Before we begin, this contact lens exam will cost $268." Had I heard that sentence, I would have stood up, thanked everyone for their time, and walked directly out the door in search of a business operating somewhere closer to reality. This charge is outrageous. It is excessive, poorly disclosed, and completely unacceptable. No reasonable person would expect a routine contact lens exam to cost $268 unless that price was made brutally clear in advance. I am asking you to review this charge and provide a fair adjustment or refund. And I want to be very clear about what happens if this is brushed off. I will not slink away quietly and absorb this nonsense like a beaten insurance animal. I will share an accurate account of this experience everywhere people look before choosing an eye care provider -- Google, Yelp, Facebook, LinkedIn, neighborhood groups, local forums, and any other digital town square where people still value being warned before they are financially body-slammed over an eye exam. Call it social media shaming if you want. I call it consumer hygiene. I will not lie. I will not exaggerate. I will not invent a single detail. I will simply tell people the truth: I was charged $268 for a contact lens exam, the price was not made clear enough before the appointment, my prior exam through the same business was roughly a quarter of that amount, and I would never have agreed to proceed had I known the cost. This is exactly the kind of customer experience that deserves sunlight, noise, and a long paper trail. Review the charge. Correct it. Explain how a contact lens exam became a $268 ambush.

I thought Texan Eye care did a thorough job, but Look+See exceeded my expectations. Being equipped with the latest technology, they conducted several eye scans as well as eye tests and I felt comfortable with every member I engaged with. Dr. Bailey was easy to talk to and I appreciated that he talked to me in layman's terms. Visiting Dr. Tran has improved my life ten-fold. Going in, I knew I had a condition where my eyes…read moredon't work together which causes annoying headaches after a long day of working at a screen. I was told by a previous doctor that vision therapy classes were the only way to help my condition and I did not have great success keeping frequent appointments that were expensive and didn't really work for me. I was blown away when Dr. Tran not only knew exactly what condition I had (convergence insufficiency), but told me about a new technology in glasses that could help me INSTANTLY with no classes. She got me fitted for Neurolens glasses and I will never go back to anything else. These glasses have prism technology that focuses both eyes on the same point so that they can work together - no more losing my place every time I look from one screen to the other. No more re-reading paragraphs in books because I lose my place every 2 minutes. And most importantly - I've had these glasses for over a year and NO MORE HEADACHES after working at my computer all day! I do research and data analysis for a living so being able to sit and read at my computer is a must. My only complaint is that now I get fewer steps in because I can sit and focus on my work and don't feel the urge to get up 100 times (yes vision issues can share a lot of the same symptoms as ADHD and for some reason we do zero vision testing in schools - just eye sight - I have 20/20 corrected eyesight in each eye, but my vision issue -eyes not working together- would have never been picked up in a routine eye exam). Sadly, like many things that work and actually make us feel better - insurance does not yet cover effective treatment for vision issues like convergence insufficiency to include Neurolens. However, these glasses were worth every penny. HSA money can also be used to cover these, which is incredibly helpful. I am eternally grateful to have met Dr. Tran. I've never met anyone more knowledgeable on vision issues and she is 100% the kindest doctor. She never appears to be in a rush and actually listens to what you say. She takes the time to explain everything, which a nerd like me appreciates. Excellent Experience with Dr. Shannon Wong and Austin Eye…read more I underwent an enVista premium multifocal IOL lens replacement on my right eye on January 27, 2026, at Austin Eye's Bee Caves location to correct astigmatism and improve my reading vision. As someone who has always disliked wearing reading glasses, I decided to have the procedure done in one eye first to see if it would provide the improvement I was hoping for. My decision was greatly influenced by a colleague who had cataract surgery with Dr. Shannon Wong at the same clinic. She only had one eye treated and experienced such a significant improvement in her vision that she never needed surgery on the other eye. From my initial consultation through surgery day, every step of the process was handled professionally and efficiently. The front desk staff made check-in smooth and welcoming. During pre-op, the nurse took the time to thoroughly explain everything, answer my questions, and ease my anxiety. Her empathy and reassuring manner helped calm my nerves considerably. I was given 5 mg of Valium before the procedure and remained awake throughout. Once I was brought into the operating room, everything happened very quickly. Dr. Shannon Wong explained each step as he worked and let me know I might feel some pressure during the procedure. Fortunately, I felt no discomfort at all. The surgery itself took only about 10 minutes, and before I knew it, I was finished and on my way to recovery. Since I traveled from Las Vegas for the procedure, my husband and I stayed overnight in a hotel. The next morning, I returned for my follow-up appointment, where my vision was checked and everything looked great. We were then able to fly home to Las Vegas with peace of mind. I was instructed to use prescribed eye drops for several weeks as part of my recovery. For the first few weeks after surgery, I experienced some nighttime glare while driving and noticed shadows around objects during daytime walks and hikes. However, these visual effects gradually improved and completely resolved within about three months. More recently, on October 22, 2026, I returned to Austin Eye for a YAG laser procedure to improve some blurry reading vision and restore clarity. The treatment was quick, painless, and covered as part of the package I originally paid for. My only expense was a $50 copay. Considering the original cost of $7,300, I appreciate the excellent long-term support provided by the practice. Today, I am very happy with both the service and the outcome of my procedure. As a nurse with an active lifestyle, wearing glasses was often inconvenient at work, in the gym, and during outdoor activities. The freedom from constantly relying on glasses has been life-changing. In addition, I no longer have the recurring expense of purchasing new eyeglasses every year, which typically cost me between $350 and $450 annually. I would like to sincerely thank Dr. Shannon Wong and the entire Austin Eye team for their outstanding care, professionalism, and expertise. The procedure was absolutely worth the investment. In fact, my two sisters are now considering the same procedure after seeing how pleased I am with my results. I highly recommend Austin Eye and Dr. Shannon Wong to anyone considering lens replacement surgery.

I'm also impressed that the Wongs have chosen to share their expertise by endowing an eye institute at the University of Texas at Austin. My most recent personal experience with Austin Eye was surgery for lens replacement. While some have derided the facility on Bee Caves Rd as factory-like, I would counter that with the fact that consistent good practices yield consistently good results. I felt well cared for throughout the process, and the results (my excellent recovery and visual acuity) speak for themselves. In the event there had been any problems, I was given Dr. Wong's direct cell number and email. The Austin Eye facility is beautiful, modern, and well-maintained. The same may be said of the older location along Jollyville Rd. I highly recommend Austin Eye for their expertise, state-of-the-art equipment set, and very positive and helpful office staff.

They took me right on time and gave me the eye exam, which was covered under my insurance. The optician was friendly and personable. Unfortunately, the note in my insurance said that I had already used my eyeglass allowance.and was not eligible for a new pair until December. This was a problem with my insurance, and they urged me to call for resolution. So this time I did not choose a new pair, which is always a daunting task to choose from their wide variety of attractive frames. In the past, they've had a lot of patience helping me decide. I took advantage of their fun Photo Booth, which takes 3 shots against a colorful background. Warby Parker is always a pleasant shopping experience. Their eyewear consultants are always helpful, assisting in picking out frames; I'm usually very indecisive and need their expert guidance in choosing the best look.
