I have been going to Optique for years. I loved it when Amy was there she would always work hard to keep my price down. I recently went there only to find out new management. They charged me $1245.00 with insurance for a new pair of frames, lenses, and computer lenses for frames I already had. That manager took 1 1/2 hrs to input my prescription. I think he screwed the price and the prescription. Then I pick them up and I see better out of my old glasses than the expensive ones. Now, I have to go pick the glasses up make an appointment with my eye Dr. and then take them back. This has been a bunch of time and gas....oh and by the way I asked for my money back to go elsewhere...NOPE. DO NOT EVER GO THERE WITH THIS NEW MANAGEMENT, he's an ass. read more

I am totally flabbergasted by my recent experience with Eddy at Optique. Due to health reasons, I was not able to come back in for my follow up to complete my contact lens fitting last year. I was trying to understand the process and how to go forward, and was simply confused by some of what Eddy said to explain it. He spoke to me in a tone that was extremely patronizing and rude. He did not listen to me, and instead answered things I was not really asking and didn't answer what I was asking, so the confusion was never lifted. To me it seemed we were having miscommunication and he was frustrated that I wasn't understanding--it happens. I pointed it out and asked him not to speak to me this way; he didn't address it, and continued to talk at and patronize me. Let's just say "ma'am" was not used in a very respectful way, but in a way that could make a woman's blood boil. Finally, I said I was going to move on to a different place, because I didn't understand or appreciate the way I was being spoken to and Eddy got very defensive and said, "fine, have a great day!!!" in an loud voice and hung up on me. I, too, work with people. People get confused and sometimes need clarification on matters they don't work with on a daily basis. I understand it's been a hard few years for everyone (of course!), but a little patience goes a long way. I hope Eddy gets a glass of wine and a foot massage soon. I really enjoy the doctor's at Optique and find them knowledgeable. However, I'm not interested in having a hostile exchange if I need something more than a regular appointment scheduled, so I will be searching for somewhere new. read more

I've been getting my eye exams from Optique for a few years now and they usually have great availability to get me seen quickly. Doctors are great and they have a good selection of eyewear. My complaint and the reason I won't confidently recommend them moving forward is related to the confusing and predatory parking garage used for the business. They do not use a gate arm at exit(but do for entry) and I left thinking it was free(obviously my mistake). There used to be parking lot attendants but there were absent on my visit. Three months later I got a parking violation for $82.25(!!!!!!) stating I had not paid for the parking and that my account was past due. I would've paid the $12 for the 1 hour and 10 minutes I was there had it been obvious at the gate but there were no signs stating payment needed to be made and no attendants to point out my mistake. As a business I would suggest that Optique and other local businesses file a complaint with the parking company or give customers a warning regarding the "no gate but still need to pay" setup in the parking garage. Sure, it was my mistake but the parking situation there feels predatory which is a pretty uncomfy feeling. I will likely go elsewhere for my next exam. read more

I have to start off by saying, I am not one to leave reviews about a business or restaurant by any means but I felt as if it needed to be addressed to "higher-up". My partner and I walked into Optique Downtown a few weeks ago. The place seemed "lively" and an excellent variety of frames! I was in Frame heaven, to say the least. There was a man sitting at his desk by the name Eddy...I believe who did not seemed thrilled about us being there, he did not greet us what-so-ever like the sweet lady at the front desk did. I finally got his attention to see if I could look at some tint options for a pair of sunglasses I found.. Very rude and almost felt like I was being belittle.. The energy was no longer welcoming... I'm sadden to say I turned the sunglasses down.. I will be checking out the other location, In hopes I will have a better experience. read more

I have been going here for years, brought my daughter these last two years. I missed an appt, the person arranging appts decided she wanted to charge for the missed appt. So, here is what happens when businesses try to instill an ad how missed appt fee, clients go elsewhere. The cost benefit analysis for Optique is this, between myself and my daughter I spent on average 2300-2800 on glasses annually. This business just lost whatever revenue they obtain from those sales plus the cost for my rx exam. I suck at match but I have they ate screwing themselves pretty well figured out. read more

Dr. Z, clinic staff, location, validated parking, frame styles.... all excellent. Staff in the optical section have all been great for the 3-4 years I have been a patient/customer, until yesterday. I picked up my glasses and the person who waited on me was odd. She went to adjust them, was gone a pretty long time, and they were the same. She adjusted again, and they were fine. She handed the glasses to me and said "my name is [inaudible] let me know if you have any questions. WOW has this place changed. The cold hospitality is crazy now. The doctor took about 5 minutes with me. He didn't even notice a scar I was supposed to watch on my retina until I pointed it out. The front staff were cold and simply told me I owed $300. Fine. However, I'm not even sure my eyes were looked at correctly. Go to a place that will take care of you - even if it's an eye exam. Let me just say that as a Californian I now really understand what southern hospitality means. My oldest son forgot his contact lenses. In the remote chance that Optique would have some contacts to sell, I gave them a call. I spoke with Javi, and let's just say he took care of everything and pulled off a miracle. All with the grace and hospitality that Texas is known for. I cannot recommend this place enough. It's rare that I take the time to write a review (evidenced by my lack of reviews). This is such a great spot, the staff is so welcoming and professional and I really appreciate the state of the art design. The whole experience was great, I saw Dr. Jack Ibrahim who made me feel at ease immediately and helped me find the right kind of lenses for my needs. I have a slight imperfection in the way my eyes are curved and always had trouble wearing the sphere shaped lenses. He even gave me two different kinds to try at home before I make a decision on which one to purchase. I'll be coming back here to get new glasses and for yearly check ups. I've had near perfect eyesight my entire life -- up until a few years ago. So the whole ritual of getting my prescription updated, selecting frames, lenses, fitting, etc etc is relatively new and annoying to me. Further, compared to other larger cities I've lived in, Austin doesn't seem to have tons of shops with a really great selection of sexy frames. I looked around at quite a few shops before I found Optique downtown. This place is awesome. They have tons of great frames and cutting edge tech. Most importantly, their customer service is absolutely top notch. I especially recommend Bryan, the manager... great guy who takes the time to make sure everything is perfect, with fast turnaround. It was my first time here, and I was coming in to get my prescription updated because I needed to reorder my contacts. Great location that validates parking. Clean, modern, fancy place. I was greeted right away, offered a la croix, and taken back right after I finished my paperwork. They were quick and very friendly. I was given a monthly contact to try and a weeks worth of the daily contacts to try. My prescription given was my usual one and my contacts feel great. Lost a star: I don't know what the exam is called but they offer a extra exam where they look to see how healthy your eye is, for like $40.00. The guy tried to give it to me without asking or telling me it was extra. Thankfully I remember this from my other doctor, asked him about it, and declined the service. When I went to pay at the end they still had this exam on my bill. Very easy to get it taken off but again it was something I had to notice and request. Could have easily left without asking for the bill breakdown and paid for something I didn't even get done. read more

I was sent to optique by "Warby Parker", another favorite eyewear destination! They don't have eye exams so they sent me to "Optique" High they said had very good reviews . I made an appt. in a couple of days and the team was so nice and lively to work with. I appreciate all of the state of the art equipment they had to check my changing vision. Afterwards it was manually checked by the Dr S. Who was so informative! She sent t Me to a retinal specialist who will check my retina health further. I had such a good experience that I brought my old fav eyewear to get updated with progressives, transitions, plain readers and with tint. Boy did I run up a Bill$$! After I donated 2 of my old prescription glasses to them, (getting sent to third world countries to assist in ppls who can't afford new lens) I then treated my self to a new frame and a plain pair or sunglasses . I was halfway to JFK airport for my wedding in Austin when I realized I was on my last pair of contact lenses. On the flight, I franticly yelped some optometrists in Austin and found Optique. As soon as I landed, I gave them a call and explained my situation. I have terrible eyesight AND astigmatism, so I knew it was unlikely that any optometrist would have my contact lenses in stock. I came for the frames and stayed for the service. I called two other places and one of them insisted I would have to get my eyes dilated and the other one gave me a long lecture about how the eye puff thing was not what made it so you didn't have to get dilation. They totally knew I was talking about the internal eye picture dealy-bob. Anyways, I called Optique and they were all, "Yeah, we have the eye picture dealy-bob. Yeah, we can totally see you in, like, two days. Yeah, we think you are rad, too." Okay, maybe it didn't happen exactly like that, but you get what I am saying. Anyways, I showed up and the front desk girl was really awesome and offered me a beverage. When Dr. Rhodes was free, I went in and immediately demanded she give me an eye patch. And guess what? She totally did. (You are all, "Why would you want an eye patch?" and I'm all, "Shut your face, who doesn't want an eye patch?" and also I am all "it was a joke, okay? GOSH!") Anyways, she's awesome and then the front desk lady was showing me all my options and telling me what everything cost and eventually I picked some cute frames and the whole shooting match ended up costing me way less than I expected. read more

Beware $$$ The office is nice and the staff is very welcoming. As a few others pointed out, they definitely charge for the service. I felt a bit price gauged. I expected a $20 copay and ended up with a $119 bill at the end. I only asked one question about the OTC test and it was quoted at an additional $60. I said I would opt out of that because I only wanted a new prescription. I wish I had been advised at that point that I was agreeing to additional tests that I didn't want. That ruins the rest of the experience for me. I could have gone to a basic vision center and obtained a new prescription for $50 without having insurance. Lesson learned to ask more questions before signing and going into an appointment like this. But be warned, they definitely don't let you know this up front. read more

I've gone here for the optometrists and for the glasses shopping. Both are ok -- I think it's overrated on Yelp. It's a cute shop with great frames, no doubt. But then again... it's very expensive, so it should be expected that it's a cute shop with great frames. Bonus for friendly staff. It's close to my office, so I've been going for about three years. I think I've seen different doctors every time I've gone. They were all fine, but it certainly doesn't lead to any sense of continuity or familiarity. My complaint with Optique is insurance related. They say they take United Healthcare on their website. United Healthcare says Optique accepts their vision insurance. I go in, spend a bunch of time selecting a perfect pair of frames that I love and... surprise... they don't actually take United Healthcare vision insurance for frames. They instead offer a discount on frames for folks with insurance that's actually dramatically less than the insurance benefit. Smells like false advertising to me. read more

I landed at Optique after I not being able to find a glasses retailer that accepts VSP and carried frames that I liked. We swung by on a Saturday, and started trying things on. I was hoping I wasn't going to be stuck with these RecSpecs for the rest of my life. I was quickly impressed by the selection. I wanted something a little different but classic, and there were several styles that fit the bill. They carry some hip names (Oliver Peoples, Paul Smith, Salt., Persol sunglasses), if you're into that. I came back a few days later with my prescription in hand to place my order. The frames I had chosen were on back order (argh!). Ashley told me that they would be about two weeks before they were available, but I could come back and try them on to make sure I still liked them before they sent them to the lab. That was on Monday. Two weeks back order. Did it take two weeks? (Please allow me to channel my inner Richard Dawson) Survey SAYS: X X X I got the call on Friday that they were in. She said she was surprised they came that fast. The fit was great and they got shipped to the lab. This time, I was told 7-10 Business Days to get them back. Great! Did it take 7 days? Survey SAYS: X X X Five days. That's it. Optique has been a great experience, and they take VSP (HUGE PLUS), so next time, I'm starting here, rather than ending here. read more

They're the real deal here! I've been to many eye glass boutiques here as I've worn glasses since kindergarten. I'm hard to find glasses for as I have a strong prescription and a small face. They're super professional here and helped me find a great pair! They outfitted me in one of my favorite pair of glasses I've had. I waited to write the review to make sure I still loved the glasses after I got them and after a few days of wearing them, and I do!! The lenses are high quality, I even dropped them accidentally on my first day, so I can vouch they don't scratch!! Glasses buying here is a fun experience, doesn't feel like a chore. I got contacts too, and the contact lenses fit great as well!! Pro tip: they do have a wine menu (though I've never gotten wine there). Dr. Rhodes is great - I'm so glad I found her. I was having a difficult time finding an eye doctor who would take my insurance (Aetna), but when I called Optique, they checked it out for me on the spot and even looked up the specific benefits I have. My exam was thorough and the office is clean and obviously up-to-date in terms of the equipment they use. The location is also convenient if you're downtown (and it's next to Yummy Yo, so you can get your eyes checked and get a frozen yogurt afterward to reward yourself for being a good patient). Dr. Rhodes is professional, extremely nice, and took her time and really paid attention to me. I felt that she not only knew what she was doing, but also that she cares about her patients and wants to help them. She has definitely won her place as my regular eye doctor. read more

For the first time, I'm wearing glasses (or at least, supposed to be wearing glasses) 24/7. With a near and far prescription, progressives were the best way to welcome myself to my 40s. After a few trips to a few different shops around town, I finally found Optique. Walking in on a blazingly hot Saturday afternoon, Optique offered cool concrete simplicity and a perfectly sized selection of frames to choose from. It's easy to get overwhelmed at many places, but the carefully curated selection at Optique allowed me to find exactly what I wanted. Now I'm trying to get used to this whole "aging" thing and wearing something on my face all day and night. The helpful staff at Optique helped me out with "training stickers" to show me where to look for near and far and were patient while I tried to get used to it in the shop. To top it off, The Man was with me, also needing new specs. He's picky and he found some great frames as well. His even came in earlier than expected! Based on the Yelp review, I decided to go here for my eye examination. The receptionist was really nice, and Dr. Rhodes took the time to examine my eyes. Regretfully, I had a similar experience as Mark C. did. Dr. Rhodes was writing the wrong prescription... luckily I noticed that right there, and so I had to ask her to change that there. I found a pair of kazuo kawasaki glasses I really liked but anyone that sold them didn't accepted insurance. I called over ten shops before running across Optique. Ashley was amazing. She helped me over the phone by verifying that they could take my insurance. When I came in, she made sure the pair of Kawasakis I wanted was a right fit for me. A week or so later, I had my glasses. Ashley was quick and efficient. Afterward, I told my mom about the shop. She had a pair of sunglasses no one would put Rx lenses in. She gave Optique a chance because of the positive things I told her. Ashley, again, helped and took care of my mom. Loved my experience at Optique! Just went here for an exam, CL fitting, and ordered new contacts. Dr. Z was great! I had been on Air Optix since I started wearing contacts in 2009 and have been at the same prescription strength. I went in thinking my eyes had gotten worse and complained of itchy eyes. He fitted me in a new brand, Bausch + Lomb, which are better quality. More expensive but my insurance actually covered most of it and they have a rebate going on to get up to $130 back so just sent all that in! Now it could have been the current promotion by B+L and some kind of incentive for Dr's to put patients in them but even so, I'm so glad he put me in them! I can see a lot better now!! I went home in a trial pair and after discovering I could see a lot better I went back a couple days later to order them and do a follow up appointment (without having to do a copay and stuff). I also inquired about other options though because these are more expensive. Dr Z was willing to fit me in a cheaper brand if I was worried about price but told me I would sacrifice quality, and as I was able to SEE (haha) at that point that quality mattered, I stuck with B+L. I felt good he was willing to fit me in a lower priced one and let me check those out, though. Front desk ladies I've met are super friendly (and super stylish!) AND THE SUNGLASSES & GLASSES BRAND THEY HAVE ARE AHDORABLE. If I had more to spend, insurance or otherwise, I would def get some pairs there. All the brands are high quality and most are obscure brands, like designers from Australia. So they were all super unique & hip. Great place! Great service! And when you're done you can pop over to Trader Joes next door. Dope! read more

Any complaints in the negative reviews here must have been addressed because I have nothing but amazing things to say about Optique. This is the third optometrist I've seen in the 4 years I've lived in Austin. Never in that time, or in my past, have I had someone discover that I have a slight vertical deviation when refocusing my eyes. When the issue and symptoms were described to me it was dead on to what I've been experiencing my whole life, but always chalked it up to fatigue or just normal. My doctor patiently spent an extensive amount of time working with me to find just the right prism lens fit during my visit, and was super polite the entire time. All of the employees that I interacted with were very polite and kind. Their selection of frames is extensive, and their equipment is very up to date. The painful sting of, "You need bifocals, and you should probably wear them all of the time," was tempered by the cucumber water (had I known ahead of time, I might have gone for a 9am Cabernet) and the amazing selection of frames. I felt really confident that I was getting the right frames for my face, and never felt pressured into buying higher priced glasses. I had no trouble getting a prescription printed out, just in case, but I went with the salt. frames because they were adorable and I felt confident in Layla's measuring skills. Dr. Zemanovich was so nice, very thorough, and answered all of my questions. Optique feels like a high-end designer store, with an open feel and a huge selection of great frames to choose from. When I first stepped into Optique, I was a bit intimidated by the sleek, modern atmosohere. I was very casually dressed in shorts and a tank top so I was expecting a snooty optician. Luckily, my fears were quickly pushed aside. An optician greeted me within the minute and helped me in picking out some frames. She was very friendly and there was no pressure whatsoever to purchase the frame right then and there. Given how expensive glasses were, I told her I was gonna check out other stores before making a commitment. Imagine my surprise when I returned next week and she greeted me with a "You're back!" I can't believe she remembered a casual, browsing customer. On my 2nd visit I made a commitment and purchased a pair of Oliver Peoples frames.
